U410 Touch unable to access BIOS
Hello All,
I purchased a new U410 touch and i am very happy with it.
I attempted to install the Windows 8.1 preview then restored to a backup since i didn't do my research and realized that the RC was almost released...
I changed the bios options to be legacy with uefi first.
On completion of the restore I noticed that the bios is not accessible...
I tried different access methods... f2, shift_ f2, one key recovery and selecting "uefi firmware settings" in troubleshooting for windows 8... all to no avail... then tried a factory reset and the same problem.
Is there any chance that there is a bios update drifting around the internet to reflash the bios?
My next step is to remove the hard drive and ssd to see if there is something wrong in the file system somewhere on the hidden partitions... then to remove the CMOS battery to hopefully reset the BIOS... although i did manage to restore the system to my backup, so i do have a fully working system at the moment... just missing the BIOS settings....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
added below on 03-sep-2013 22:16 UTC:
I removed the hard disk and ssd and booted up again... still no bios settings...
Anyone know if the bios is compatible with any other machines?
Again... any help appreciated...
hi danielsena,
Welcome to the Forums.
Your issue might be similar to this thread.
It's possible that the UEFI firmware in the BIOS got corrupted for some reason and one way to solve it is to reflash the BIOS (see this article - this is for another model but same aspects apply). For now, yYou may need to bring it in to reflash the BIOS as there's no available download yet on the lenovo website.

Lenovo G50-30 Unable to access BIOS settings after Windows recovery
Hi
I recently 'downgraded' a recently purchased Lenovo G50-30 with preinstalled Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 using a UEFI USB install on a GPT partition. I also updated the BIOS from A7CN40WW to the latest A7CN43WW and all was working fine. However, after performing a necessary restore of an system image created using the Windows 7 backup and restore tool, I am suddenly unable to access the BIOS settings, either with the novo button (I do get the menu to select BIOS) or with Fn +F2. All that happens is that I receive a blank screen with a static cursor in the upper left corner. I can however still access the boot menu Fn +F12. This is a particular pain as I obviousl can't select USB 3.0 in BIOS.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.OK, I managed to clear CMOS by disassembling and desoldering a leg off the the RTC battery but to no avail. The problem seems to be that BIOS a7cn43ww itself has somehow been corupted. In theory this should be able to be resolved by a reflash. The trouble here is there seems to be no way to reflash with a current or previous BIOS version, so I'll have to either wait for a newer version or someone may know better.
C'mon Lenovo support this simply isn't good enough. It's a brand new laptop and I'm considering returning it for a refund. -
Lenovo U410 - Win8 / Unable to access OS + BIOS on statup
Hi Guys,
I hope that someone can provide some assitance for me please?
About 1 week ago, I was using my Lenovo U410 ultrabook without any issues when I decided to power off as normal. I did this but it wouldn't power off automatically, as the screen would go blank but the power light would remain on but continue running. I left it for about 30 minutes before deciding to force shutdown by holding down the power button.
Then when turning the laptop back on, it would normally take about 10 seconds to reach the login screen but now it was taking about 2 minutes. Eventually it would get to the login screen and I could login normally.
I tried to find some solutions to this but all that was recommended was to make sure I had the latest updates and run a virus scan. I did all the above and everything seem to indicate that it was all updated and no virus/malware detected.
NOW, however after powering down my laptop about 3 days ago, when I boot up I recieve a blue error screen advising the following:
Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
A required deivce isn't connected or can't be accessed.
Error code: 0xc000000f
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installtion media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.
This error provides me with options to go to the Statup options (F8), the UEFI Firmware option (Esc) or Start normally (Enter)
Whatever option I select I just get brought back to the above error message. Even when I power up using the Novo button, I get the 4 options or Normal startup, Bios, Boot Menu and System Recovery but each option brings me back to the above error screen.
I don't have any disc or media as nothing came with the laptop, all OEM, and I have no idea what to do?
Any suggestions will be very welcome as I'm at road block and not sure how to go about fixing this?Hi
I think that it's the case of bad hdd or else the hdd is not connected properly in the port. So i suggest you contact support if you are under warranty.

I have a Pavillion Elite e9280f desktop. When I start the computer, I'm prompted to press F10 to enter the BIOS settings. However, pressing F10 has no effect - I've pressed it once, I've pressed it repeatedly, I've held the F10 key down - in all cases, the boot process continues after a few seconds and I get "Starting Windows". I'm wondering if this is related to the HP USB keyboard that came with the PC, but mostly I'm wondering how I can access the BIOS settings if pressing the F10 does not work!!
This question was solved.
View Solution.I finally solved the problem of not being able to access the BIOS. First, I realized that my keyboard was plugged into an external USB Hub instead of directly into a USB port on the computer. Moving the keyboard to a USB port on the computer allowed F10 to be recognized and the PC showed the "Entering Setup" message, however, the PC just hung at that point.
I then unplugged all non-essential items from the PC and restarted. This time F10 actually got me into the BIOS settings. By process of elimination, I determined it was the external USB hub that was hanging the PC when it was attempting to enter Setup. I have no idea why that should be a low level issue, but hopefully this post will save someone else many frustrating moments trying to access the BIOS. -
Unable to access BIOS for Compaq CQ35
Hi,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ35-213TX.
The original hard disk with Windows 7 crashed and I manage to change it and installed Win8.
However, I cannot access the BIOS.
Is the BIOS residing in a hidden partition on the original hard disk which was gone after I change it?
Hope you can teach me how to restore the BIOS.
Thanks.
Derrick
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi Derrick,
Try the following.
Power down the notebook by holding down the Shift key and clicking Shutdown - this will temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.
When the notebook has shutdown, tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to launch the Start-up Menu and then select the Bios Menu ( f10 ).

Unable to access BIOS Windows XP Professional
Hello everyone,
I installed Windows XP Professional on my MacBook Pro. When I start up from the Windows Partition, it brings me to the startup page of windows xp (where I am supposed to start BIOS) and then to the setup (not the setup with the blue background, I have done that already). After about 1 minute of installing, it tells me "Fatal Error". The date and time are incorrect. I have to go into the BIOS and correct it. The problem is that I don't know how to get access to the BIOS!! Does anyone know how I can get to it?
Thanks,

Accessing BIOS on DV6-6135DX to enable boot from CD
I am unable to access bios by hitting F2/F9/F10/F11 or esc during startup on my new DV6-6135DX notebook. What key do I strike during startup to provide a menu that allows me to switch to booting from the CD/DVD?
Hold esc, and it will show you a list of options. I believe its F9 but I am not sure.

XIpod Touch in death spiral - unable to access main screen
My daughter's Ipod Touch, 4th gen needs a version update, but I'm unable to synch it to my Mac for the upgrade as the Ipod memory space is full. I'm unable to access the Ipod main screens to delete apps to free space...the death spiral (blank screen w/the "thinking" circle) is all that appears. Any ideas to break it out of the death spiral to reboot?
Try:

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Unable to access i tunes on ipod touch or any laptop !
I am unable to access itunes on my ipod or any laptop in the house.
I have tried all of the online support self help options, none of which work.
I can however sign in to the support centre using my username and password, so the details i am using are correct.
I have restored my ipod and my laptops thinking something must be wrong with them, re installed itunes, and still doesnt work.
Just being ignored by support centre, who despite being told that i had tried their online support suggestions and that they failed to work.
HELP?I'm not sure about the web pages not working, but I do know something about the constant registration messages. I get them too when I connect my iPod. I guess it's just an iTunes 7.5 thing.
Does navigating everything except the web pages work? Like cover flow, enlarging photos, etc? Try restoring your iPod, that usually helps. If not, what firmware version do you have right now? -
Another U310 Cannon Access BIOS Issue
I recently bought a U310 Touch. It came with Windows 8 and upgraded to 8.1 from the Windows App store. After the update, I cannot access the BIOS anymore. I have searched the forums extensively and tried F2, Fn+F2, OKR key, Windows Advanced Startup and none of them work.
When I press the OKR button, I can get to the boot menu but when the press BIOS setup, it simply boots windows.
I currently have BIOS version 65CN99WW which I think is supposed to fix this exact issue. I was able to find the BIOS file online so I can reflash the BIOS but when I try it, it gives an error saying "BIOS cannot be updated because it is the same or older BIOS"
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? I would greatly appreciate any help. ThanksHello,
I don't have a U310 Touch, but a U410 Touch, which I believe is very similar. When I ran the 65CN9WW.EXE file on my system, it just installed the BIOS (well, technically, the UEFI) firmware update and then rebooted. I did not try to extract the files and run them manually.

Can't access BIOS through Assist button
Hi all, I have a VPCF11M1E and I am not able to access its BIOS. Pressing F2 doesnt show me any BIOS options and when I press the Assist button it automatically starts the computer. I really do need help ASAP if possible. Thanks in advance!
Hi Barletta,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
Did you press F2 repeatedly while the computer is booting up? You might missed it. Try it again and this time, hit F2 repeatedly as soon as you press the power button. Make sure that the F2 is free from dust or dirt, and it is not stuck.
Also try to remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds OR, if the battery is not removable, remove all peripherals -> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds -> you may use a safety pin if you see a pinhole.
Try again to access BIOS. If you'll get the same issue, possibly its already hardware issue. Your Vaio VPCF11M1E is not a U.S. model and we have limited knowledge of your unit. Unfortunately, we are unable to assist customers outside of the US. We kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
Hope these help.
Thanks,
Vincent

IPod touch can't access password protected WRT310N
I purchased this wireless router (WRT310N) so I could access the Net using my iPod Touch however while the iPod detects the network I am unable to access the network even though I am typing in the correct password. Anybody else have this problem? What am I doing wrong? Is this an iPod issue or a Linksys issue? Please help.
Are you sure you enter the passphrase correctly? Try to change the passphrase temporarily to something simple like "12345678".
Also, make sure that you do not use the SSID "linksys". Change your SSID to something unique. You don't want to connect accidentally to your neighbor's router.
Don't disable SSID broadcast. It only causes trouble.
Try toremove the wireless network from your iPod touch: select it and choose "Forget this network". Then go back and select "Other...". Now enter your SSID as network name. Choose Security WPA. Then enter the passphrase into the Password field. Press Join.
See if it connects now. Do you get the check mark to the network name now?
