U410 Windows 8.1.1

All my other computers easily updated to 8.1.1 the day it came out through Windows Update.  My u410 (2012 model originally Windows 7) won't even find the update and it's been a while now.  Is this a Lenovo support thing?  Are they not supporting 8.1.1 (the newest version with minimize/pin modern apps to taskbar features) on this model?

hi lxlbluesteellxl,
I can't check if there's a compatibility with updates for this unit as there's no available system here in the lab but If you're already on Windows 8.1 on the Ideapad U410, have you tried installing the updates manually (in order)?
Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems (KB2919355)
Windows 8.1 Update for x86-based Systems (KB2919355)
Check also this blog as a reference.

  • U410: Windows + Debian from scratch

    Hello,
I bought a Lenovo U410 (HDD: 750 GB, SDD: 32 GB, 8 GB RAM) in Germany in August last year. It was working really good until I tried to install Ubuntu on it. When I was trying to do it, I got lots of problems because of the RAID configuration (I read many users had the same problem). I wasn't able to do it, and as I needed the laptop to work and I didn't have the time to investigate how to install both operating systems without problems, I just managed after a while to reinstall Windows on the HDD. So now I'm not using in fact the SSD drive, and I even have a problem with the partitions on that drive, as you can see in the image attached.
    Link to image
Now I need to format everything again and install both Windows (with a partition for the OS and another for data) and Debian from scratch. The problem is that I'm not pretty sure how to do it properly, beacuse of the problems I had before. In fact, I don't even know which would be the best configuration (regarding partitions, RAID, OS on SSD or HDD, drivers, etc, etc...). Could anyone give me advice on this and a set of instructions to do it right? In addition, I have the drivers which came with the laptopt, but should get the new versions?
I would really appreciate your help, as I need to get this ASAP.
    Thanks in advanced!

    hi maxi_m_88,
The Lenovo U410 uses the Intel Smart Respose Technology for it's caching needs. If you want to have two partitions for data and OS with your current setup, try to:
    1. Delete the SSD volume using Disk Management to make it an unallocated space
    2. Follow this instruction on how to install Intel Smart Response Technology.
    3. When done,  Windows should now have a single Drive C:\. From here, use Disk Management to shrink the HDD into two (this partition will be for your Data).
Let me know if you get any errors
    Cheers

  • U410 windows 7 slow boot times

Hello. I have had my u410 for just under a year and it use to work great! However, last March I noticed that my boot time were no where near as fast as it use to be. Before it was anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds, now it takes upwards of two minutes.
To try and fix this I just tried to reinstall windows 7. I tried the one key recover option but all it would do was boot me into a screen with a green leaf and then sit there for about a minute. There was nothing to click on here and ater a minute it would restart again and send me back to my normal desktop.
I scanned my hardrive for faulty sectors and everything with the windows error checking test (properties -> tools on the c drive) and it seemed to come back normal.
Any ideas on how to fix this or what to check? I feel like my ssd partition on the hybrid drive is not being utilized somehow.
    Thank you

Seems like the intel SRT configuration got messed up. I don't know if there's another way to get the Intel SRT working again without resorting to factory defaults, or clean install using the updated intel SRT setup guide.
My knowledge with SSD caching is limited but I recommend you to follow these threads to see if you can revive your Intel SRT configuration.

  • U410 Windows 8 how do you split the screen in two?

I have an IdeaPad U410 with Windows 8 as an Operating system. I would like to know how do you split the screen in two. Also I would like to know if I can put my screen as a touch?
Moderator Note; subject edited for relevancy

    hi BoJ,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
If you're referring to having an extended display , you will need to have an external monitor and enable extended mode by pressing the Winkey+P and select Extend.
If you want to split the screen to work with 2 documents or 2 windows at a time, you can snap the windows by pressing Winkey+ Left or Right arrow - check this article in reference.
    Hope this helps

  • Ideapad U410 windows 8. one button recovery

    HI,
I've a IdeaPad U410 that ships with Win 7 and a cool little feature called one button recovery.
The idea is that when the pc is off, you can hit this button and invoke the recovery partition to reload win 7.
Having update the PC to Win 8, I would liek to setup the same operation but with win 8.
Has anyone been succesful with this, how'd you do it?
    I see to steps:
Setup a Win 8 Recovery partition, which looks harder than it sounds.
Tell the pc to look at it for the one click recovery.
Over to the Lenovo masses, your thoughts are most welcome.
    Stan

    Hi Stan,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to inform you that after upgrading the OS (Operating System) from Windows 7 to Windows 8, OKR (One Key Recovery) partition will lose its path with the Software and cannot create the recovery partition for Windows 8 and OKR button will not work as expected.
Do post us back for further queries.
    Best Regards

  • U410 Windows 10 multi user hibernation problem

Hi, I ran into a problem with my U410 after installing Windows 10 (x64) on it.I have a multi user setup, (sometimes there are multiple users logged in to the OS) and one of the users tries to hibernate the system by closing the lid.The problem is, that is this case the system cannot go to hibernated mode and after opening the lid and logging in the user seems to have been logged out. Also the nvidia graphic adapter dissapears sometimes. If only one user is logged in, the hibernation works as expected. The setup is: Windows 10 Enterprise x64 (UEFI), Intel i5, 8GB DD3 (dual channel), 32GB samsung mSATA, 256GB Samsung EVO 850, Nvidia Optimus enabled, with latest drivers (chipset: 10.1.2, raid: 14.5.2) Any help apprisiated! Regards,Richárd

edit: sorry guys, n/m..it wasn't a JRE issue after all :)

Was nicht funktioniert? Viele Grüße Magg0

  • IdeaPad U410, Windows 8.1 x64, UEFI, Intel Smart Response problem

    Hi,
My machine was running a Windows 8.1 x64 Enterprise on a GPT partitioned HDD UEFI enabled with bios version 65CN21WW.
Intel Smart response and rapid start was running fine with the 32GB Samsung SSD.
After upgraded the bios to version 65CN99WW many weird thing happened:
    - the system couldn't start, it tried to repair the system on booting,
    - The bios shows the machine as U310 model,
    - Even after a fresh install of the windows the machine couldn't start after finishing the install.
I finally got the system working by reseting the RAID and installing the system without acceleration association in UEFI mode. But after enabling the acceleration in the Rapid Storage UI the system starts to failing again and tries to repair the system again and again.
By disabling the UEFI, (setting it to legacy support) the system could start again.
Why cannot the UEFI be enabled? Or what is the correct setup in the BIOS?
    Any help appreciated!
    Regards,
    R.

Why did you upgrade the BIOS?
I'm still keeping the old CN21 and it works perfectly with 8 Gb RAM and the new 512Gb M6 from Plextor, I barely finish typing the logon pass and windows 8.1 screen shows up.

  • Ideapad U410 Windows 8 installation to SSD

    Hello Team,
I want to Change the installed HDD with a SSD.
What are the steps i have to do? How can I create a Windows 8-Recovery-USB?
With the Microsoft Download Software I cant download a recovery Image. I think it is because I have only a Pre-Installed-Windows 8-Key.
    Sorry for my bad english
    Best regards
    Matthias

What I did is to obtain a copy of the OKR backup files (this is located in a hidden location - run OKR program to determine the location) and my personal files. Then I create the partitions using the EVOZI partition creator program from the EVOZI site. Once the partitions are created I just copy the OKR backup files to the replacement ssd. Press the NOVO button to start the recovery process. After that you can start restoring your personal files.

  • Disable touchpad function keys not working Ideapad u410 Windows 8

    Hi there
I'm on the verge of returning my new U410 which, despite reviews indicating the contrary, has a very frustrating touchpad that the palm sensitivity adjustor does not fix.  In fact I don't think it adjusts the sensitivity one iota.
So I've read that Fn+F6 or Fn+F8 should allow me to disable it while I'm writing, but they do nothing.  I'm working in Microsoft Word, if that matters (it shouldn't though, right?).  I'm on Win8, computer is brand new and I installed the latest touchpad driver but must say it never launched or I never saw it launch (I'm not sure it should, or if it should just be in the background).
Between that and the worst wireless problems ever, not to mention that the heavier graphics card apparently does nothing to improve video performance, I am tempted to return this.  So frustrating.  Please help if you know about the touchpad though, being able to disable it would go a long way!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi bwrightd,
    Regarding your concern:
    1. If you have the same keyboard layout like in this picture (hotkey mode disabled in the BIOS) then you just need to press the key below to enable/disable the touchpad.
Alternatively, you can also use Touchfreeze to automatically disable the Touchpad while typing.
    2. For the wireless issue, you may wanna check this thread as other users found it helpful to resolve the issue.
    3. For the video performance, try the following:
        a. Set the power settings to high performance (Link to picture)
        b. Configure Nvidia Control Panel's "Power management mode" from Adaptive to Maximum Performance - see this guide
        c. Follow this guide on how to add an app to use with the Nvidia Optimus Technology.
    Hope this helps

    Lenovo Ultrabook U410 Windows 7 64x   Modellname: 4376   Baudatum: 08.08.2012
    Problem:

    7. Jetzt könnt ihr das Notebook wieder einschalten.
    VG,
    Marcel

  • Lenovo U410 Battery Sudden Drop to 0%

    Hi guys n girls,
I just got Lenovo U410 Windows 8 in February 2013. This afternoon when i was using the laptop in power saver mode, I was able to use an hour from 60% to 48%. After checking the battery percentage when it was at 48%, 5 minutes later the low battery warning showed up saying the laptop has 6% left, then it shut down itself.
    Following are the situations:
I seldom use it and I left it for 1 week plus, and two days ago I used it for 15 minutes, and then I took it out n used it today.
I used it in power saver mode.
I was running the windows update.
    Steam was on for updating.
    I was running open office.
Is this normal ? Does this happen to others ? IS there a way to solve this ?
    Thanks

  • Clicking Noise from hard drive_U410

    How can I fix this?

    HI,

    Thanks!!
The noise you are hearing might just be the normal sound of the hard drive.  Most hard drives aren't 100% quiet.    The link below is for a Seagate article on hard drive noises for your reference......
    http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/174571en?language=en_US
Are you experiencing any errors or problems with the hard drive ?  Seagate also offers a free SeaTools utility that can be used to check the health of your hard drive.  You can download that free tool at the link below.....
    http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/
As for warranty, the hard drive would be covered under your computer's warranty and that would have expired after 1 year.
As for fixing the noise, the only way to fix the noise would be to replace the hard drive with a new one.  Then again the noise you are hearing maybe just the normal sounds of the drive.
As with any hard drive it is always a good idea to have a back up of your important files on another media. Hard drives have been known to fail without notice.
