U430 Touch doesn't detect second monitor

I recently got a U430 but, when I connect it to my Dell S2240L monitor using an HDMI cable, the U430 doesn't detect it.  I've tested the monitor and cable.  The display driver that came on the machine is from Intel (version 10.18.10.3379).  The supported display driver listed on the Lenovo site is also from Intel but for an earlier version (10.18.10.3277).  I've read a number of threads about a second monitor not being detected.  Hase anyone else seen this?

Hi,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your U430 Touch Laptop is not connecting to the External Monitor, the issue should resolve if the latest display driver is installed in the computer, below are the link to automatically scan the computer and install the relevant driver from Intel and Nvidia:
Intel display driver auto detect
NVIDIA graphics driver auto detect
Hope this helps!!!
Do post us back if the issue persists

• Cannot detect second monitor

Hi Everyone.
I am teaching on a Power Mac G5 10.5.7
Processor 2x2.66 2GB memory
I have a projector hooked up as the 2nd monitor. Sometimes when I come into teach the projector doesn't get a signal from the computer.
I've had our IT department out many times and sometimes we get it to work by switching around the two monitor cables into their slots in the back of the tower. Two weeks ago we swapped out actual monitor cards on the mother board.
But we are still having issues of the projector not getting a signal. I'd say it's 50/50. Some days it works... some days it doesn't. When the set up does work it's works great.
I've tried everything. I've tried starting the projector first then the computer and vice-versa. I've tried selecting detect displays from System Preferences.
The projector seems to be working. It's projecting an image onto our screen but it's simply the logo and there is an error saying "no signal."
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I tried plugging a second monitor with a *Mini Display Port to DVI adapter*... work 1 out of 100
Tried with a 23'' Cinema Display, With DVI Cintiq Display and 32'' LCD TV (1280x768), everytime with the same problem, the MBP screen blinks (blue) but the second monitor stay with the message "NO SIGNAL" and nothing happens, Macbook don't detect, no option to change resolution, tried plug/unplug (sometimes with the computer off), restarted (computer and monitor) several times, reseted PRAM more then once, changed from 9400 to 9600M and so on...
I'm going crazy!
Now I have two options:
1. in case of a *driver issue* (wait for Apple for an update solution)
2. in case of a *hardware issue* (use the Apple 1 yr warranty and stay a long time without my work machine, waiting repair, since it's a custom MBP)
I only have to be sure wich case is true.

• Doesn't detect external monitor

Hi, I'm trying to connect my Imac to my tv (sony) but when i connect o dont get the blue screen, it's like my imac doesnt detect the monitor, but on the tv the HDMI port becomes active, no picture or anything.
I tried my Imac using my friends tv (samsung) and there were no problems,
Has anyone heard of this problem or anything like it?

Just to be perfectly clear, you are connecting to the Dell from the Mac using a DVI port on the Dell, not a DVI to VGA cable, right?
So if you hot plug the cable, meaning both the Mac and the Dell are switched on, the Mac doesn't react at all to this? If that's the case, I would suspect a bad cable, bad adapter or a bad connection somewhere. You might also have to manually switch the Dell from looking for a signal over its VGA input to looking for a signal over its DVI input. There may be a front panel button labeled SOURCE for this, or else you may have to go into the Dell's menu system to make the switch.

• HP Phoenix computer can't detect second monitor

HI,
I have used this for a while (18 months) on one monitor and wanted to extend the desktop to a second monitor - but the system fails to detect a second monitor when it is plugged in.
It has an AMD Radeon 6850 with two DVi slots - both monitors work as I can swap them over.  But neither the auto detect (HP Catalyst) or the manual detectoption  show up a second monitor.
I have updated the ADM driver, restarted etc etc........ not sure what else to try.  Any suggestions?
thanks
Mike

Hi MikeJeffries,
I'm sorry to hear about your problem in connecting a second monitor. Here is an article, (assuming you have Windows 8), that may be of help to you: Using Two or More Monitors with One Computer (Windows 8). Let me know if this helps at all. Best of luck to you.

• Why  can't my G4 detect second monitor!?

I just hooked a 2nd monitor to the VGA port but can't get it to work. The primary monitor is hooked to the DVI and works fine.
I opened "Displays" and clicked "Detect monitor" several times. It won't find it.
What else can I do?
thanks!

That oval connector is an ADC, similar to DVI but with power and USB signals added. It can run certain Apple displays (mostly flat panels) that do not have their own power supplies.
On both of those connectors (ADC and DVI) you will see that at one end, there is a plus-shaped area, surrounded by 4 pins at the corners. Those pins are reserved for VGA signals. The adapter Apple put in the box when it shipped connects to those pins on the DVI connector, and extracts them into a 15-pin three-row VGA connector.
It is very difficult to find a VGA extractor for ADC. But for about US$35, you may be able to find a short cable that adapts ADC computer to DVI monitor (by throwing away the power and USB signals and swapping the pins around). \[Belkin makes one, but it may be out of production.] This would allow you to move your DVI monitor to the ADC port, and then you could use a VGA extractor to get a VGA output (from the DVI port) for your second monitor.

• Dynadock doesn't display second monitor

Just received my dynadock and can't get my 2nd monitor to clone my laptop. It only displays my screen saver.
Any suggestions?

Hi
Can you also tell us what notebook you are using on the Dynadock?
Normally you can switch between the monitors if you press FN+F5. Check also the display properties. Therefore make a right click on the desktop and check the display properties. Make sure that the picture on second monitor will be cloned and its not set to extend the desktop there.

• Wallpaper doesn't fill second monitor

Hi everyone.
This is kind of a minor issue but there is a user asking about it and I don't have an answer.
It's a Windows 7 laptop connected to an external monitor with the laptop display set as the primary. On the external monitor, the background doesn't fill the screen, there's a big black border around it. I played around with the
different settings and nothing seems to work.
If it's on the external monitor only the wallpaper looks fine, it's only when both displays are up that there's an issue. I'm told that she didn't have this problem on her Windows xp machine.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks.
Chris Hansen

Hi,
Please try to reverse your settings, that is, set the external monitor as primary, although the image may end up cropped on your laptop monitor.
Thanks!

• Adding second monitor to HP Beats Special Edition 23-n010xt All-in-One with HDMI Cable

Trying to add a second monitor to all-in-one using HDMI cable.  All-in-one is HP Beats Special 23-n010xt, second monitor is Samsung SyncMaster S24B300, Op Sys is Windows 8.1.  Both are connected with HDMI cable, but Windows is not detecting second monitor.  Have also tried a new cable, no success.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Here are the specs for your HP Beats Special Edition 23-n010xt All-in-One CTO Desktop Computer. Based on the specs, this model doesn't have a video output of any kind. The HDMI port on the side is strictly an INPUT.
The HDMI input allows you to use your computer screen with a game console or video player. To connect your computer to an external display, you will need to purchase a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or many other adapters on the market.

I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?).  Not worth repairing.
If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt.  So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect?  For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor.   Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter.

• Mac mini doesn't recognize the second monitor

I have Mac mini mid 2011 with dual display setup - one HDMI, the Second one thunderbolt to DVI adapter.
Majority of times it doesn't recognize the second monitor connected through thunderbolt. Sometimes it start suddenly after a while, I've read there are some issues with the 10.10.2 Yosemite...
Any  suggestions how to sort it out please? Many thanks, this is really a pain in the *** for me, strugling for a half an hour with a monitor...

Thanks lllaass I tried it but doesn't work. I tried with different cables, still doesn't work.
The strange thing is that sometimes it suddenly starts and works smoothly... Really strange problem. I will try a new adapter Thunderbolt to HDMI....
What is the worst, when both monitors work smoothly and I put the computer to sleep or i shut it down, when started all over the monitor is not recognized.
Ehhh :-(

• Duplicate mouse cursor appears (but doesn't move) on second monitor

I have a Mac Pro with the ATI XT1900 video card and 2 Dell 2407WFP LCD monitors attached via DVI.
When I'm using an application, such as a web browser, and the cursor changes state (like the black arrow with spinning wheel in corner) a duplicate of this cursor state appears on my second monitor, on the left-hand side of the screen.
This cursor DOES NOT MOVE, but does animate, and will not disappear unless I move my "live" cursor over to the second monitor, which I imagine causes OS X to "refresh" the position of the cursor. It realizes the duplicate shouldn't be there and it vanishes. The second cursor seems to appear only when the primary live cursor changes state, as in the black arrow becoming a black arrow with spinning wheel in the corner, etc.
This is not a duplicate cursor due to having Displays set up to mirror one another. The second cursor doesn't move.
This has happened in more than one software application, so it appears to be some sort of display driver error at the system level.
Anyone else experience this or have a way to fix it? There have been several Apple Updates to OS X since this problem first started happening (on day 1 with the Mac Pro) and it has not been resolved.

Try resetting SMC on the macbook air: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411

• Second monitor stays in sleep mode even though it's detected.

Hello,
So I just hooked up a second monitor through a second VGA port on my computer. For some reason that second monitor just stays in
sleep mode and never wakes up, even if I restart the computer. I've set the settings to where it should detect by
Right Click -> Screen resolution and making sure it's detected by a VGA port. I've also set up my Graphics Card to where it's compatible with 2 monitors.

Hi,
Generally speaking, this problem most probably caused by Graphic driver problem, it would be better to check if the driver was upgrade to be latest, if not, upgrade it to be latest for test.
If your computer had another integrated graphic card, try to disable one of them in BIOS for test.
Please also make sure computer motherboard chipst driver and BIOS was upgrade to be latest.
If problem persists, plase try to remove first monitor to check if the second monitor could be work correctly.
If there is any progress, please feel free let me know.

• U430 Touch and external monitors

Hi,
I am an absolute computer novice.
I have a new Lenovo U430 Touch laptop. I use it for traveling for work, but when at the office I would like to have bigger external monitors (preferrably 2).
What would be the best way to connect 2 external monitors to the U430 touch?
Thank you!

All I can think of is this if you want more than 1 monitor connected:
HDMI to 2 HDMI

Then 2 HDMI to 2 DVI
[img]http://img.misco.eu/Resources/images/Modules/InformationBlocks/1210/SRH/SRH-2/202509-startech-hdmi-d...
It's messy but I can't think of anything else that would work.

• U430 Touch with 2 external Monitors

Hi Folks, have recently purchased a u430 touch which I'm very happy with but want to run it with 2 external monitors. Any suggestions?
Both the monitors I have support HDMI and VGA. Will and HDMI splitter do the trick?
Thanks in advance. M

Hi Markhreilly,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are looking to connect 2 monitors to your Lenovo U430 laptop.
As per the specification of this model, it has only one HDMI out port as there is no VGA port. If the HDMI splitter has a VGA port then you can connect one to HDMI monitor and other to VGA monitor.
Click here for the specification of the model.
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!
Best regards,
