U460 video sound stuttering, freezing up

on my U460, keeps freezing and stuttering on local and streaming videos, music and sounds?
I have updated the audio and video drivers.  Is there some preferences or options that I can change that will rid this, besides reformating my drive and reinstalling Windows 7?
Lenovo tools doesn't catch this at all.
Help, this is vary anoying for laptop w 4GiGs of ram.

thanks but  the Intel driver utility doesn't find devices on my ideapad U460.
I see Intel dose have the latest drivers
my chipset is:
Intel ARD 2.26G 3M C2 I3-350M PGA CPU
I'm sure that there has to be a lot more Lenovo users with this stuttering and freezing up issue.

  • ALSA sound stutters/freezes

I had ALSA set up and working without any problems before today. This morning I rearranged my hard drive partitioning scheme and now it seems ALSA is messed up. Could there be a connection?
I noticed it when mpd was acting funny (a song would be shown as playing in ncmpcpp but without sound then ncmpcpp would freeze or "attempt to reconnect..." with no avail). When I play an mp3 with Audacious it plays skips/repeats the first fraction of a second (like it is stuttering). With flash videos there is just no sound. Everything seems fine with alsamixer but when I try "speaker-test -c 2", it "stutters" with some noise out of the left speaker.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
    Yes it can.
My logitec keyboard made my KT7A go slow when I used it.
Could you keyboard be having an effect on performance?
My keyboard does not have any effect on this. I do have a Logitech keyboard but I've also used two different keysboards, one from IBM and another from HP.

    Some general advice:
     - look what services/programs are running (using a hijackthis could be nice)
     - fix the swap space (fixed drive, fixed size)
     - your IRQ 4 and 9 are described as shared, but with only one peripheral. Why?
I'm not sure why my IRQ 4 and 9 are like that. I just recently formatted after I posted those IRQ's and i'm still getting the same stuttering problem.
I've changed my swap size to a fixed number and that hasn't done anything either.

When I try to play games it starts to lag, and freeze while causing sound stuttering and then completely freezes the whole computer forcing me to reboot the system. Using the 285.62 drivers.
Games for example include Starcraft 2, which when I open used to freeze straight on the loading screen forcing an immediate reboot. I allowed it through my firewall and now I get past the loading screen and can log in, but straight after I log in, sound stuttering occurs and then the whole computer freezes forcing me to reboot. Another game as an example is Killing Floor, I never got past the "Tripwire interactive" loading screen, looked on google for some fixes, after modifying some .ini files for Killing Floor I was able to get into the menu's, went to options and clicked on display to change some of the graphics settings, extreme rips in the image occured, sound stuttering and frozen on the spot. Retried again but this time didn't touch any settings at all, joined a match, the game loaded but as soon as I entered it froze forcing me to reboot. Need help please thanks
Edit: just tried Starcraft 2, made a custom match vs a bot, got into the game for 20 seconds, started mining minerals then it froze again, this time I can hear the audio still playing perfectly while the image is frozen, mouse can move around, keyboard still works. rebooted after observing these features

there's something wrong with the sound on my computer, if i spend 30mins watching a video, the sound stutters annoyingly and my laptop hangs, i always have to restart it, some times this doesn't solve the problem.
It also happens when i'm on skype.... its a dv3 and i updated the driver recently, still no result. is it the sound card???

2nd that. Try running it earlier in the day when things are OK and again immediately after you have a problem (but remember to stop the video on demand first as this will affect the result). Copy and paste both sets of results.

  • Sound stuttering in Leopard on Dual G5 Powermac

I've searched other posts, but haven't seen a related topic, so wanted to air this.
Took a day and a half to load Leopard, as the upgrade didn't work smoothly on my RAID1 10.4 startup disk. It kept breaking the mirror, then wouldn't present the other slice when booting. Eventually I had to move all the data to a third drive then re-init the startup mirror and copy it back. What a pain.
THEN, I notice my old favorite problem is back. I can't make the G5 disable 'nap mode', whenever nap mode is on I get an annoying chirping sound continuously out of the speakers. I had a line "hwprefs cpu_nap=false" (or something like that) previously that disabled this on bootup. I notice the reinstall of xcode 3.0 appears to have removed this, also loading the latest CHUD does NOT provide a tool to turn this mode off. Help!
As if this isn't bad enough, when playing back a video via QT or DVD player, the sound stutters continously a couple of times a second. This isn't something I can live with. If this can't get fixed, I'll go back to Tiger and get my money back.
I have this installed on my Powermac G5 dual 2.0GHz system. I've no intention of loading this on my Macbook Pro until this is fixed.
I tried repairing disk permissions on the startup volume, but beyond that I'm not sure where to look. Any ideas?
    Thanks, Dave.

Spoke too soon. I've just noticed has disappeared completely partly through viewing one movie.

  • DVD playback stutters, freezes

I made a DVD from old family movies as a Christmas present for my siblings. I used iDVD to make the disk image, converted it to an ISO file on the Mac using OS X's Disk Utility, and burned it on my PC. (My Mac doesn't have a Superdrive, so I used Nero to burn the ISO image on my PC, and did a bit verification when it was done to make sure the burn was good.)
It plays fine on the Mac, but on a consumer DVD player, the disc plays for maybe 20 minutes, then the video starts to stutter, and eventually the DVD player makes clicking noises and stops playing. The same disc will play longer in a PC, but it eventually stops there, too. The slide show part of the disc doesn't play at all on the DVD player, and plays poorly on a PC (a recent Dell laptop).
This is a real bummer for me - I worked a long time to make the video as good as I could get it from 50 year old films, and on the Mac it seemed to play perfectly.
So, is the issue with iDVD (and I need to start over with a PC-based authoring package like Nero or Easy Media Creator)? Or is it something else?
Any suggestions are appreciated - I really would like to get these films moved onto DVDs my family can watch (instead of using them as coasters).

    Hi There,
DVD playback stutters, freezes after about 20 minutes. I scoured the net for answers to this dilema and spoke to the highest technicians at apple who couldn't help me.
Through much frustration and many bad burnt discs I asked them to replace the DVD burner in my new G5 - Voila it stopped.
The answer is replace the burner in your Mac.
Hope you fine this the answer to your problem

  • Video sound problem

My music on iTunes plays perfectly but I have bought 2 videos from the music store and downloaded a few podcasts and the sound stutters really badly as if two different soundcards were trying to play the audio at the same time -needless to say I only have one soundcard installed. If I open QuickTime and play the videos in there directly they sound fine so the problem must be with iTunes itself. I am using iTunes 6 and the latest version of QT. I have tried all of the QT settings trouble-shooting suggestions on the support pages. I have got the most recent driver for my soundcard, I have the most recent version of DirectX and I have even tried changing my soundcard but the problem remains the same. Has anyone any idea what the problem is?

I am a new owner of iPod video and have used Videora. Tried several times and it is successful. For sound problems, I suggest you to look at 2 dimensions as well.
    1. On the "setup" menu (right below "Convert"), there is a sound volumn for you to adjust. I found that I have to adjust it to at least 225% to make it audible thru my headphones.
    2. For some DVD, there are multiple sound tracks of different languages, DVD Decruptor allows you to choose the subtitles and the language. Only click those that you want.
    Good luck!

  • XPS 8700, Sound stuttering during playback

I have a new 2 month old Dell XPS 8700.  I notice the other day a sound problem that is strange to say the least. When I play back a .flac or .mp3 file, the sound stutters. It's like it comes out in pulses once a second. It's quite un-listenable. Not sure when this started. I'm running Windows 8.1 fully updated as of 2/6/2015. The problem shows up with Windows 8 music player, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center and vlc. All show the exact same playback anomaly. It also happens when I use the same players to play an .avi or .mkv video. The sound is bad no matter which audio port I use. I also get the same artifact using USB Headphones with their own DAC. What is weird about this symptom is that if stream Pandora, Somafm, or watch a youtube video, I do NOT get this symptom. The audio is perfectly fine. I ran the  Dell PC Checkup and no problems are detected. Device Manager says all my drivers are up to date. Any ideas about what is going on and how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

I did.  I tried the update, but it failed because I already had the update.  I had installed it a few weeks ago when I was setting up the PC and downloading all the Windows, Office and Dell updates.
Ironies of ironies is that the failed update helped me resolve the problem.  I thought I would uninstall the Realtek drivers via Device Manager which I did.  But, before running the update again, I checked to see if the symptom was still present. The stuttering went away!  Problem solved.
It seems that this is working with an Invidia sound driver from what I can surmise from Device Manager. So, I'm just not going to install the Realtek driver unless there is a change in the symptom.  I'm beginning to think that it was the updating I did a few weeks ago that broke my sound!
    Thanks again for helping.

Just done a replacement of the pata DVD drive (its new and is working ok),  and a fresh clean  install of Snow Leopard with all updates, iMac 5.1 behaves strange, sometimes I start Google Chrome and look at youtube videos the computer freezes and shuts down immediately,
I believe its  related to overheating ?

    Any ideas somebody ?
The hard disk has been previously checked with state of the art techniques that have confirmed that the hard disk drive is in perfect condition.

1.5-3 minute boot up as opposed to 15-20 seconds
    And
why it takes a long time to load a lot of things.
    I have restored this
    from a time machine partition.
TimeMachine is only a backup and restore, it won't fix issues in software and according to your information, doesn't even optimize the restore for best performance on boot hard drives.
What you need to do to regain your speed is to understand how your machine works
    Why is my computer slow?
Fix any and all issues in software following this list of fixes
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then follow this defrag method I've outlined
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
    Most commonly used backup methods
There shouldn't be need to reinstall OS X fresh unless your having file structure issues which if they are should appear when in the Steps, which then a zero erase and install will cure as well as any bad sector issues, the defrag step wouldn't be necessarry on a freshly installed system obviously as the files are written all together, not in portions all over the drive.
    Hope this assists.

  • When i'm watching a show or movie on iTunes, the video will randomly freeze and the audio will continue, the video catches up after awhile, but it does it again. This happens to all my shows, and I downloaded them from iTunes. Why is this happening?

Whenever I try to watch movies on iTunes on my computer, the video will randomly freeze, but the audio will continue. This happens will all of my shows, however this never happens on my iPod or iPad. Whenever I want to watch a new movie I buy or any of my shows this problem keeps happening. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it did not work. Why does this problem keep happening, and how can I fix it? Thank you.

  • Video/audio Stuttering on Macbook 13

    Hi All
I have a mid 2007 Macbook 13 running OS X Lion 10.7.4.  all up to date.  Initially I had 4G's of ram ( I know it only reads 3 ) now I have it running on only 2.
Problem is video/audio stuttering when running movies. mostly netflix and or connected to a flat screen tv. on wireless or wired connection.  but it also happens just running youtube videos or videos that I have on the system mostly in .AVI format.   I could be running movies with VLC or quicktime and same ting.  I've tried turning every running program off.  like firewall, little snitch, sophos AV, etc.  after turning them all off I do a restart.  I have done permssion repair, checked the disk, run the daily scripts,  even downgraded to SL to see if Lion was too much for the system and nothing.  of of the 4G's of ram that I have.  I swapped them to see if maybe one or 2 of them ware bad.  when I install the operating system, I do a clean install.  delete partition, format, the whole thing and bring it up to date.  not all at one time.  disk permissions repaired after each big updated.  almost half the time the videos will run ok and than it starts stuttering.  when is doing it.  not even the mouse responds in those few seconds.  is like something is grabbing all the system memory for a few seconds at a time.  it has gotten to the point that the system completly frezzes and I get that black translusent window that says the system needs to be restarted.
I have about 40% free HD space.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The behavior you mention is typical of MacBooks with the GMA 950 video chipset and 64MB VRAM.
The best solution I've found is to quickly pause the video and let the video load completely before watching, IF the website allows it and will preload the content. Not all of them do. Some sites automatically buffer before they begin playing.
Watch in a window rather than full-screen.
Watch content on your MacBook screen rather than a HDTV.
The Safari Extension "ClickToFlash" lets you choose whether to load Flash content at all. It also allows 'preferring' H264/HTML5 web video content when available, and seems to be a bit better than simply defaulting to Flash content for every website.
I have a mid-2007 MacBook 2,1 with 4/3GB RAM. It is the very oldest model capable of supporting Lion. After reading of performance issues with these older systems in these forums, I chose to remain on Snow Leopard rather than upgrading to Lion. Snow Leopard runs most things I do very well in 3GB. Lion really seems to need 4GB and would like 8GB, from what I read here.
You don't mention how fast your internet connection is. A faster internet connection MIGHT help some. A wired Ethernet connection MIGHT offer a bit more throughput than WiFi. Worth trying out, especially if you have a friend with a faster connection where you can try before you pay to upgrade.
Ultimately we're talking about 5-year-old computers. That's "ancient" in computer life cycles, and the best solution (not most cost-effective) is a new(er) Mac. It's not a problem unique to Mac. Old Windows XP systems lack the performance of new hardware running 64-bit Windows 7.
New or recent Refurbs with 4GB or more RAM, faster video chipset, more VRAM, faster clock-speed, Intel "Sandy Bridge" (or "Ivy Bridge" likely coming soon) dual-core or quad-core processor, and, yes, a hefty pricetag to match. Anything else is at best a temporary measure to buy a bit of time (a year, maybe?) until you can purchase a new(er) faster better Mac.

  • Video sound to TV won't run through headphones

    Hi,
I have my stereo and TV hooked up to a MacMini (the 2009 slim metal one with the optical drive).  I have a headphone splitter attched to the headphones jack going to the TV and the stereo.  The Mini is hooked up to the TV with a mini DP connector to a DVI-to-HDMI cable (but this same thing happens with a regular DVI cable).  With my old 2,1 Mini that was fine since everything ran through the headphones.
Now I want to do the same thing but iTunes I can't get the video to run through the headphones.  The only way I get sound to the TV is to run it through the HDMI output (even when using the mini DP).  But then I have to manually change the sound output.
    Is it possible to either:
    1. Have iTunes run out the headphones jack and everything else run out the HDMI?  or
    2. Have everything run out the headphones output?

    Info to add:
When any digital video is plugged into the Mini, the video sound only works when it's set to HDMI.
To get sound to my stereo I have to switch it to headphones.  Even though I have a connector going from the headphone jack to the DVI audio input on my TV, there's no sound in headphone mode.
I tried an external USB sound card and had the same problem.  Just instead of headphones it was the USB soundcard.
    Maybe it's my TV...

  • Video/Sound delay with AppleTV on higher resolutions

I have a new Sony 55" RP SXRD HD TV (1080p max res), and just hooked up my AppleTV today. After syncing it with most of my video library and some of my music library, I tested the video appearance. My initial setting was 1080i, and I experienced major video/sound synchronization delays (similar to older DVD players where you'd hear what the person was saying 5-8 seconds before they said it on screen). This drove me nuts, so I switched down to 720p res, and while the movies played okay, the TV Shows and the Music Videos left much to be desired, and still had the same synchronization problems. To remove these issues, I finally changed the res down to 420p, but now, when I watch pretty much anything (photos, album art, TV Shows, Music Videos, and Movies), the resolution is horrible, and pixelates on my TV.
I'm trying to pinpoint this to find out if it's the TV, the connection (HDMI), or the AppleTV. Can anyone offer some advice on what to look for, what might cause this issue, and how I could fix it? Thanks so much in advance!

Sounds to me like it's a problem with upscaler. Does the Apple TV upscale? If it does, then it's the upscaler in the Apple TV and is probably a software problem that can be fixed with a firmware update. But it's weird that if it's a consistent problem with the Apple TV upscaler that these forums aren't just soaked in complaints about it. Could be only a problem with really large, say 46" or greater TVs -- that might explain the low number of complaints.
If the Apple TV doesn't upscale, then it's the upscaler in your HDTV. Prior to about six months ago, when all HDTVs got good upscaler chipsets, some HDTVs, especially the older, larger models, had absolute trash upscaler chipsets -- even the expensive quality brand models got some bad upscalers. All kinds of problems from all input sources, but not always with every device. How old is your HDTV?
For your sake, I hope it's an Apple TV upscaler problem with larger dimensioned HDTVs, as that Apple can fix for free with a firmware update. Next best choice is your terrible upscaler chipset in your HDTV supports firmware upgrades via USB or network cable and there is a firmware update out that fixes your HDTV's upscaler problems. Because the final, worst alternative, if there is no update for your HDTV available, or your model doesn't support firmware updates, it's the really bad option: drop another couple grand or more for a new HDTV of the same large dimensions.
