U550 Synaptics Pointing Device Issue

Something has happened to the Synaptics that it is not being recognized or responding. I can still use the touchpad to move the mouse and click on stuff but I can not use it for zooming or scrolling.
Can someone please help me in figuring out what needs to be done so it will work again properly.
Also on a different note when I use the Fn key to adjust brightness or volume, there is no green meter/bar thing that shows up so I can see what level it is at. Why would this stop working?

  • Synaptics Pointting device Driver installs on an Desktop machine while deploying Windows 7X64 using MDT 2013 Update 1

I am deploying Windows 7X64 on Dell OptiPlex 990 and other desktops. Deployment goes fine but the Synaptics pointing device driver gets installed after the deployment is complete. Also after applying operating system I get a prompt to Run the Synaptics Pointing
Driver setup twice. If I don't click yes to install the TS wont proceed. Its gets worse when I uninstall the Synaptics Device Driver from Appwiz.Cpl and reboot the machine the Keyboard fails with the error Code:29. Above is the screenshot of what I get after
Applying Operating System step. Thanks in Advance.

I have also encountered this in MDT 2013 Lite Touch deployments for Windows 8.1 and I am researching it.
I noted that the Synaptics driver was installed for "SmBus" in Device Manager for a motherboard with an Intel 7 Cxxx Series chipset (Dell Optiplex desktop).  The HardwareID's are all PCI\VEN8086...
We use %Model% in our task sequence and have a folder for each model such as "Optiplex 7010" in Out-of-Box Drivers.

  • Equium P200 - Using Synaptics Pointing Device - keeps minimising my screen

Just bought the laptop so all the devices should be up to date.
The touchpad uses the Synaptics pointing device and it often closes my screen or minimises it when I'm using it whether it be in my email account or online.
Not sure if relevant but got Vista installed. Have tried to look this fault up but no luck so far. Any help would be gatefully appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

If you have bought your laptop few days ago the first thing you should do is to check all relevant settings and see how that tochpad works. You will see that touchpad has many different settings and I am pretty sure you use accidentally some of them.
There is definitely no fault. I have the same notebook model and have no this fault. Maybe you should disable tap zones.

  • Hp Pavilion dv7, synaptics pointing device not scrolling after windows 10

After upgrading to windows 10 my mouse will not scroll. I have updated the driver, no help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, no help. I rolled back the driver, no help, I reupdated the driver no help, I deleted the whole synaptics system and redownloaded it from their website no help, reupdate the driver again, no help. I then went on to live help....the technician did an update again....no help. I went onto live help  again and technician did a system clean/repair from the command prompt, no help (I then gave up with live help) and yes the vertical scrolling option is ticked in the settings. PLEASE can someone help  me.

You don't need to be in Windows to mark the D:\Recovery partition Active. Just boot with a utility cd with the disk management capability. If you don't have one_Scroll down on the page and get>> Bootable CD  If you don't have a burning app that can burn an ISO to cd get>> ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd-a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is> Here. Once created, boot from it.
Btw-have you tried booting from his Vista Recovery DVD? With the first disc in the CD/DVD drive power on the laptop and immediately tap Esc to bring up the menu. Then tap F9 Boot options. Use the arrow key to move down & highlight the Optical drive then tap Enter key. (No key is needed with Recovery DVDs)

  • Synaptics pointing device driver not supported

I have a Toshiba C55D-A5392 which was recently "upgraded" by Microsoft to Windows 10. I cannot adjust the "tap or hover over the touchpad" to defeat it from sending a left click.   I always removed that "feature" with all previous versions of Windows. When I try to adjust parameters on the Control panel, i only adjusts a few.  Ther'e's a link to "more adjustments" but when I click the, I momentarily get the usual presentation for all adjustments, but within a few seconds I get a message that the driver is incompatible with extensions used by the operating system. Will there be a driver for the Synaptics touch pad used in my computer.  It's a real pain right now to use. Thanks for any input.

Toshiba does not have a Win 10 Synaptics driver for your model.  None of us have any idea what their future plans are in that regard.  You might see if Synaptics can help you.

  • Synaptics Pointing Device two finger scrolling randomly fails in Firefox 4 RC

I have an HP Envy laptop with a multitouch pad that uses two-finger scrolling gestures. In Firefox 4 RC, this gesture stops working from time to time. I do not believe the touchpad drivers are at fault, since gestures continue to work in other applications and I have restarted the device to no avail. Restarting firefox clears the problem. I did not have this problem in Firefox 3.6.x.

    Partial Solution!
I have determined the cause of this problem (though I can't be sure it is the only cause of the problem.) If there is a .pdf file open in any tab, two finger scrolling stops working except for that tab. Closing the tab also solves the problem.
However, this just means that I have a more specific bug to report, then, that the scrolling gestures do not function properly when a .pdf is open (with Acrobat viewer) in any tab.

  • When I try to reformat there is an error message about configurations with the pointing device

When I try to reformat there is an error message about configurations with the pointing device
I am not sure I am on the correct section in the support area for Lenovo.
I had a mouse issue. It was unable to read the mouse. Now the mouse is working and it is initialized.
    I have no idea why.
There is an error message saying that I should press F 1or F2. I pressed down F 1 and I tried to work with it and I enabled the mouse or I tried. The mouse is working fine but the computer will not recover completely the way it used to.
It is very confusing. When I shut down and restart there is an message that was not there before about the pointing device. Also the recovering operation never asked me for disks. Now it is doing that. I have disks but this is all confusing. I just want the computer to be the way it was. It is working fine except for booting up and the messages.

Hi marissa, welcome to the forums,
you may or may not be in the right place, but it would certainly help members to help you if you could post exactly which Lenovo system; notebook / computer, you have and which operating system is installed on it.

  • Alps Pointing device scrolls but won't go back or forward in Firefox, but works in Internet Explorer

Alps Pointing device touch pad, version 6.0.304.6, on my Toshiba Qosmio G25-AV513 running WinXP up to date , scrolls but won't go back or forward in Firefox, but fully works in Internet Explorer. I tried installing the latest driver available from Toshiba that can be found (the latter ones go to a web page that "can't be found"), 7.0.302.5 (Windows) Nov 2007, and when I run the update, nothing installs. I might try uninstalling the older one, and try again, but if it's not the driver, is there a patch or add-on in Firefox. Thanks.

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox in general?
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

  • New Lenovo x230 Pointer & Keyboard Issues

I just received a new compay issues computer: x230 running Windows Pro 64 bit, Office 2010 and an SSD.  Unfortunately, out of the box the pointing devices, either the ultranav or an external mouse and keyboard (MSFT Sculpt), suffer from auto clicking and inability to input text...the text writes over itself...cursor moves forward and then backspaces on itself.
The external keyboard worked fine when tested on other notebooks at home.  I did unistall the MSFt keyboard SW on the x230 to see if that made a difference.  Nope.  My IT team remotely updated all drivers, etc. So, everthing system-wise is up to date.  They seemed to have fixed it for about an hour, then it went back to this behavior, including opening multiple instances of applications on its own.
    The PC is unusable.
    Thoughts?

The touchpad is defective. If you have an external mouse, try to disable it (either in BIOS or OS) while you get a replacement.

  • G700 Laptop touchpad/pointing device not working

    Hi
Brand new G700 laptop - touchpad worked fine for a week or so then just stopped. Using USB mouse at the moment. A message in the Lenovo support center states that the "Lenovo Pointing Device" is disabled. Installed new driver - didnt help. pointing device is not showing up in device manager.Info on "ELAN" tab on the hardware manager/mouse page is greyed out. Really no idea what to do about this now....help!
    Tom

    hi tomdeal82,
    Welcome to the Forums.
The "Lenovo Pointing Device is disabled" error usually appears if the Touchpad cable is disconnected from the motherboard. To verify this, can you try to launch the OneKey Recovery app (there should be an icon on the desktop) or the OneKey Recovery button and observe.
If the mouse still doesn't work on the OneKey Recovery environment, I recommend you contact lenovo to report the issue as the touchpad is most likely defective. Otherwise, try to perform a system restore or a factory reset to rule out any possible software issues.
    Regards

  • Leno G580 Pointing device (Mouse) problem

I have a Leno G580 for last one year it was working fine. Now there is a problem with pointing device, the mouse suddenly starts scrolling down automatically. I have updated drive but still same problem. Now I'm using windows 8.1 pro.
    Is any solution for this???

    Hi Asim,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums
I’m sorry to hear that the Touchpad features are not working as expected in your G580 after upgrading to Windows 8.1 and even after re-installing the Touchpad drivers. I suggest you to perform “System Restore” in the computer, this will take back the computer to Windows 8 now update all the drivers then upgrade to Windows 8.1 to get the issue resolved. Below is the link for the steps to perform “System Restore” in the computer and upgrading information:
    System Restore for Windows 8

Do post us back if the issue still persists.
    Best Regards

  • Why do I have to unplug and reconnect my pointing device before Solaris will recognize it?

I have tinkered with linux a little, but on the whole I am new to *nix (I bought an Ultra 20 Workstation pretty much because I wanted to teach it to myself), so I apologize in advance if I am being stupid.  I also apologize if this is the wrong forum - I'm honestly a little confused by the various fora available here (the Hardware forum seems to be dedicated more to SPARC stuff, but maybe 'm wrong about that).<br />
Anyway, I use a USB Cirque Glidepoint for preference, but the same problem arises with the mouse Sun included in the box: my Ultra 20 recognizes both of them and works with them just fune, but ONLY if I unplug them and reattach them at some point after booting to the login screen (I'm using the Java Desktop). In contrast, it has no trouble with the keyboard, even though it's actually a PS/2 keyboard plugged into a USB adaptor (assuming that makes a difference).
This is not a critical problem, but fishing around behind the computer with a flashlight every time I boot is a little annoying. And I cannot believe there is no way to make it behave.
Of further note, a soft reboot (as in, without powering it all the way off) also requires me to re-plug the pointing device. However, I have not encountered any need to do so at any other time (as in, it has not yet spontaneously stopped paying attention to the pointing device or otherwise gotten obviously glitchy about it). I have also not yet actually installed any software that did not come preinstalled. Still figuring that out, too.
I am not afraid to tinker with unix guts, but I am very inexperienced at it, so I again apologize if this is somehow a stupid question with an obvious answer. If someone could take pity upon me and help me fix this, I would be greatful.
    Thanks!

This is a good question. It's possible your Xserver isn't configured for the correct mouse type. Try logging into a command line console (no X11 running). Run /usr/bin/X11/X -configure. It should create an Xorg configuration file in your root directory.
Copy this to /etc/X11/Xorg.conf and try restarting your Xserver. The file it creates might require some tweaking.

  • Re: Satellite Pro 40 Synaptic Pointing device not working properly

Good morning, I have a brand-new Satellite Pro L40 and the Synaptic mousepad has stopped operating.
When I go to COntrol Panel &gt; Mouse I get a message teling me that the system is "Unable to connect to the Synaptic Pointing Device Driver.
I haven't installed another mouse, so I have declined uninstalling the driver, another dialogue box informs me that the "Windows (Vista) host process Rundll32 has stoped working", advising me that " a problem caused the oprogram working corectly" and that "Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available", the only option is then to Close Program.
Although the mouse works, on the whole, I have lost the advanced scrolling and tapping features oft he mousepad, a bit disappointing in a Laptop lesst han a month old.
Any suggestions? The Laptop did nto come with a Vista installation CD, should I have one? Can I re-install the driver? Is it available on the Toshiba website? What and where should I look?
Many thanks to all and any who might be able to help.
    Toni M.

OK, so it's probably not usual to answer oneself, and it may well be a sign of madness, but I have found a solution and wanted to share it, as well as prevent anyone wasting precious time replying.
As I typed the question the old adage "the answer to a question may lie within the question itself" drifted into my small brain.
It occurred to me that, as the Windows error messages pointed to a Driver problem, the simplest solution might be to search for one and and re-install it; so I found the Downloads &gt; Vista Drivers &gt; Synaptic Pointing Device driver, downladed and installed it, and Hey Presto! Back to scrolling and tapping-up for England!
Goes to show the wisdom of the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, encapsulated in the legend on its cover:
    DON'T PANIC! :^0
Thanks a million if you took the time to look at this and, if you have a similar problem, take heart, the solution is right here!
    TTFN!

  • 2 pointing devices = 2 pointers?

I've got 2 pointing devices, a trackball attached to USB (/dev/input/mice in xorg.conf) and a 5-button mouse attached to PS/2 (/dev/psaux in xorg.conf). They both work perfectly, the extra buttons work as they should, but they both control the same pointer. Is there any way to get separate pointers for each pointing device?

  • Synaptics touch device suddenly freezes in IdeaPad Flex 14

    Hi everybody,
I have an IdeaPad Flex 14 and frequently when I'm working on it, the synaptics touch device suddenly it freezes and the mouse arrow disappears from the screen. When this happens only the "right click" keep working but I can't move the mouse to another position. I have to deactivate-activate the synaptics touch device from the keyboard to put the mouse working again. This is so annoying and I want to know if there is a solution for this or the Synaptics touch device is damaged.
    Thank you!

Once the screws are removed under the angular feet the back comes of the laptop.
Glad you've been able to have the confidence to get the back of the laptop. I guess you thought what I thought, the base inards will fit anything from 13.3" to 15.6 using little more than different length ribbon connectors. Fitting it in a 11.6" device may be possible although the hard drive may have to SSD.
I find it hard to believe you need to remove 24 screws to remove the HDD, and 24 to go back afterwards. Had a play with Ubuntu 14.04 using VMWare player myself, although for some stupid reason it didn't prompt for a user and password during the install leaving me only able to use the guest account to log in. I clearly need 8GB of RAM and an SSD to make a smoother VM experience of Ubuntu and another VM install to save my settings.
Certainly worth taking the back off to have a look.
