UAD-1e and Liquid Mix questions

Hey all,
I'm looking into 3rd party external DSP stuff, and the UAD-1e and Liquid Mix products sound compelling. I'm wondering if users of these have some advice as to what to watch out for, for instance, Liquid Mix's latency--does Logic adequately compensate for the delay? Any incompatibilities in 8/8.0.1/Leopard? Thanks.

Looks like it was just a typo...
"Dear UAD Users,
We would like to clear up speculation and mis-information by making a formal statement from both UA & EL clearing up the following points.
1) UA & EL have signed a Trademark Licensing Agreement.
2) There will be plug-in partnership announcement at NAMM 2008 confirming that the EL Fatso will be a forthcoming plug-in for UAD-1.(ONE)
3) The expected ship date for the UAD EL Fatso plug-in will not however be until late 2008.
Apologies for any confusion and we wish you all a Happy 2008 in your music making!

Still - new cool plugins continue to appear - lots of people would like a Distressor plugin, and it seems that's a possibility now, as EL say there will be softwre versions of all their products...
...and it doesn't explicitly rule out the possibility of a UAD2 either...

Is it possible to support Logic in 32-bit plug-ins in future updates? How about to make a bridge built in Logic. I would have long ago moved on to a new version of Logic, but I have the equipment (UAD-1 and Liquid Mix), which are not run on the Loqic X. So I would suggest to make a bridge in Logic X. As it was in version 9 of the Logic.

In addition.. Focusrite have stated they will not be releasing a 64bit version of Liquid Mix as they consider it outdated software these days.... even though at one point a limited release beta version had a 64bit AU version included but it was so unstable it was rapidly dropped...
However the 32bit to 64bit bridge plugin 32 Lives,  states it will handle and 'convert' the Stereo version of Liquid Mix to 64bit but not the Mono version... within LPX
    http://www.soundradix.com/products/32-lives/compatibility
Finally, like others here, I would be extremely surprised if Apple added 32bit AU support back into LPX..  That '32bit tech' is long dead and gone....in terms of modern DAWs... as it is in other DAWs such as the recent PT versions...

  • Liquid mix questions

    Hello
I want to buy one of these but have a couple of questions first.
Could you be so kind to answer them.
1-Do i understand it correct that if you load up one plug-in (one of the 32 plugs in mono at 48kHz) that one plug-in stands for one compressor and one EQ.
2-Can you use the knobs on the unit also as a midi-controller for other plugs
3-Can you record the automation data of the liquid mix
4-Does it work well with Logic pro, on a Quad PPC mac (no pops or audio drops and working every time you put it on)
5-Are happy with it (very happy, very very happy...)
    Thanks you
    g5 quad ppc   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I've had one for a while now
1-yes you get both eq and comp together 32 times
2-Don't think so,no data shows up on logics input monitor and its not a midi interface so i recon no is the answer
3-yes automation is the same as any othe plug in.The hardware controls will ajust the automation in real time and recordable
4-I'm on a dual 2.5 g5 and it works well.each update(LM) has increased its stability and functionality(V2 coming soon)I also run a TC powercore compact.
I did have problems to start with running the LM from the firewire on the powercore(it was best to use the ext power supply when tagging it on the end of a firewire bus)I now have a firewire pci card and run the 2 on seperate busses.all seams well
5-yes very happy,It sounds good, there is rather a lot to take in at the start, and i found getting an objective view of what sounded better difficult because of the sheer amount of models and proccesses available, there are now some presets available which help.this is not a complaint i am very happy with the choice.

  • Logic+Liquid Mix + SSL + BFD + Amplitube2 + Ivory + AT5 = a total disaster!

Is anybody else using Logic with Waves SSL, Ivory, BFD (all), Amplitube 2, AutoTune 5 and Liquid Mix (or any combination of these) on a Mac Pro? For some reason, I am getting a corrupted preference file, that crashes Logic every time I try to do anything, from Bouncing, Freezing even Saving (or Save as)! What is going on! I've tried going through and turning each plugin off, but it still happens. I'm using the most up to date versions of everything, and when I trash the prefs, run disk utility and start up again, it's fine for a bit, but then it all goes wrong! I can't replicate the problem every time, it seems a bit random as to when and how it goes wrong. Sometimes it's fine for an hour or so, other times immediately after I trash prefs and start up again. I was wondering if anyone else had any similar issues, and whether it was down to this combination of plug-ins that caused it, or something else entirely. Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ben

I have already tried all that, starting with the Disk check, then the RAM check. I have trashed preferences, and tried putting in each new plug. what it appears is that each plug is ok on it's own, but as soon as you combine them, weird things start to happen! As I stated in the first post, the problem can't be replicated every time. Sometimes the problem is reolved after trashing prefs, sometimes not. Sometimes it is fine for an hour, and when you do something normal, like adding tracks to a group, it crashes. Other times the system performance hits the roof when doing nothing. I have 5 GB of RAM, and some is running through the liquid mix, so I can't see how i am maxing anything out. This has happened on a professional mix for a known artist, and I have lost several days on this. I have tried everything I know, even going back to earlier versions of the track, but still bad things happen. Obviously I can't trash this song, so I need a way round it. If the liquid mix isn't on, the project won't open, but I feel there is a conflict between that and something else (perhaps Ivory or BFD). However, I have mixed several tracks in the last 2 weeks in this way, and they were all fine. Maybe I'm pushing it harder on this track...Any suggestions?

  • Liquid-mix Vs UAD 1-e

Each of these has been out for a while now,
whats seems to be more fun with logic!
    And which has better plugins.
    Fr.BlayZay.

With 1 UAD card you can probably get about 4-5 plugs going
This is heavily dependent on the plugs you are using. The most recent Neve plugins, apart from the new channel strip, are really very processor heavy, but that doesn't mean they all are.
I did a mix a while back, with one UAD card (and native plugs as well of course), on Logic PC (no freezing therefore, all live), and was using something like three 1176LN's, three LA2A's, a Plate140, a Pultec, a handful of Cambridge EQ's, perhaps some other stuff too.
In other words, one UAD card isn't going to be able to totally run your mixes with all the choice plugins, but you choose how to utilise your resources effectively, and there is plenty of power.
I will also say that, whatever you get, it takes time to acclimatise yourself with quality plugins - many people finally get one of these things after hearing all the great things about them, expecting that from the second they pull up some plugins, their entire mixes are suddenly going to sound a bazillion times better straight away. It doesn't work like that - these plugins are great and require some time to appreciate their subtleties and complexities - once you can appreciate this, you'll realise why they are so highly regarded, and you then don't want to be without them ever again...

  • Liquid Mix Vs UAD verdict

First of all I would like everyone for their input into this discussion about which card/system is the best. I've learned a lot by reading the hundreds of posts regarding the subject.
It comes at a time in which I'm making a decision on what card to get to expand my studio.
I'm not sure which way to lean, but it's good to get quality input regarding this.
Hey, hopefully I'll come across a project that will allow me to have both!!

I am in the same place you are, and I am going to buy the Liquid Mix. After doing my research. Here are a few reasons that helped me make my decision:
    1. Liquid mix's emulation of the classic compressors are all controlled by the same interface, while in the U.A.D. parameters may vary from compressor to compressor. (ease of use)
    2. A couple of respectable names, B.T. among them, are giving public testimony of their experience with the Liquid Mix. ( I don't see faces supporting U.A.D.)
    3. I rather sacrifice one firewire slot in my G5 with an external device, than put non-apple stuff inside my machine. (That's just me)
P.S. Find a studio in your area that has both, and compare them for yourself, it is all about your ears. I liked the Liquid Mix better.

  • Is Anyone Having Trouble with the latest Liquid Mix driver and Logic 8?

I'm having a host of problems with my Liquid Mix and Logic (also Digital Performer too.. but that's another forum :0) ). I experience a great deal of latency and flanging when using two instances of it on a channel. How is it for everyone else?

First, contact Focusrite and make them aware of your LM/Logic problems. I'm communicating with a rep who said he wasn't aware of any issues with LM and Logic.
Next, I speculate the latest driver of the Version 2 software can't live up to it's claims of variable latency. When I follow the minimum latency of 1032 for the LM manager (as posted on their support site), LM and Logic behave well. The problem for me is I never use 512 in Logic.

  • Liquid Mix & Mixes

So my Liquid Mix came in over the weekend. Unfortunately however I won't even get to plug it in until Thursday, but needless to say the excitement is building. I know there's been a few people here that have been using this recently, but all I've read have been about using it on individual tracks. I was wondering if anyone's used it for pre-mastering completed mixes.

I have another question for you. Have you figured out what the processor on the LM is? I've scoured high and low and cannot find a quote on the processor used for the life of me. The reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking of getting a powercore and am trying to decide between the compact and the firewire. I don't anticipate maxing out instances from it as I likely will with the LM. It's interesting TC-Electric lists the processor power, but gives no indication of how many instances you'll get away with, Focusrite lists the number of instances you can get, but doesn't tell you how fast a processor. Makes it impossible to compare.

  • Module_webapps and liquid layouts

    Hello,
I have been playing around on the beta server and had some questions on how to use module_webapps with the liquid language on BC. my question is what is the best way to test the new features of the module_webapps tag:
    {module_webapps id="webappId|webappName" filter="item" itemId="123" targetFrame="" useBackupTemplate="false" resultsPerPage="" hideEmptyMessage="false" rowCount="" sortType="ALPHABETICAL" collection="my_custom_collection_name" template=""}
I am able to create some JSON data via:
    {module_webapps,22762,a template="/webapp-list.tpl"}
but I am not able to use the new named parameters and create a collection:
    {module_webapps id="22762" template="" collection="my_custom_collection_name"}
I was thinking I could output the data to the page via:
    {{my_custom_collection_name | json}}
    I was successful with this:
    {module_shoppingcartsummary collection="my_custom_shopping_cart" template=""}
    {{my_custom_shopping_cart | json}}
Is this module working the same way or am I understanding this wrong?
    Thanks,

Ok I realize I'm late replying to this thread but Liam, I don't think you're understanding what we're saying because nothing you're saying refutes it.  Look, what we're saying is that whatever the default is, you should not have to specifically state it to make the web app itself work.  I don't care if the default filter is 3 items for filter="All".  You should not have to specifically state filter="All" for the web app to work.  You keep on talking about load on the servers but what we're talking about has absolutely nothing to do with load.  The load on the server is determined by what the limits are for filter="all", not whether or not you have to state it in the markup.  I'm not sure why you aren't understanding that.
Again, the default filter="all" could be only 3 web app items and my point is still the same.  To get those 3 web app items to show should absolutely NOT require me to add a filter="all" to the markup.
In other words, if you just write {module_webapps, id="mywebappname"}, I'm okay if the output results in 500 items, 10 items, 1 item, or whatever BC wants filter="all" to represent.  But it should never be ZERO items like what we currently have. Otherwise the API fails the intuitive test.
And on a sidenote, there's also some inconsistency regarding using plural vs singular for this module.  In my opinion, it should have been {module_webapp} because you're only referencing 1 web app.  For displaying a photo gallery, we don't use {module_photogalleries}, we use {module_photogallery}. Same for blogs and forums.  I think the webapp and breadcrumb modules are the only ones wrongly using the plural form.  One of the hallmarks of a great API or framework is consistency if at all possible because with that consistency comes intuitiveness.

  • Logic with a Saphire focusrite or Liquid Mix?

Anyone using logic with the focusrite Liquid Mix or saffire?
If so can you guys post some a and b mp3 demos
    cheers

    ThorTheGodOfBlunder wrote:
Yes I have experience with both. Use Saffire Pro 10 with my MBP and never had any problems with it very happy with it. Sold the Liquid Mix. If you want to use an external harddrive and a firewire interface you'll run out of firewire busses even with expresscard adapter and the saffire really doesnt like to be daisychained. And when I had the Liquid Mix, never really used is as a control surface didnt really find it better over using a mouse. And even though its takes processing load of the cpu it still caused other problems and made the system less stable. This was on Logic 8 and the drivers they had for it about 2 years ago though so dont know if its better now.
But did you like the sound of the liquid mix's DSP plug ins or not?, i am not interesting in using it as a surface board, i doubt that is what people buy it for, the built on DSP is what i am curious about,
As for the Saffire products i know the older models like the Pro 10 and Pro 26 i/os do not have any on board DSP processing like the liquid mix but Focusrite claims that the quality is alike their Green Channels, hows do or did they sound to you guys?

  • Anyone using Liquid mix with Logic?

Trying to get some feedback on liquid mix.
    any thoughts greatly appreciated.
    B

I was testing it for a few days and it worked REALLY well for me. Considering I do have mLan Audio/Midi network which uses firewire I was expecteing only crashes but than was quite impressed-no crash at all! I made myself a few quick comparsions of Avalon vt747 comp/EQ and some Focusrite stuff I own and it´s LiquidMix emulations and -ofcourse - the emulations weren´t exactly the same , in case of vt747sp EQ low shelf the difference was actually "hearable" and I liked the sound comming from hardware much more - but still I´d buy it - it does things pretty damned good - and I never expect plugins to be EXACTLY what hardware is. I am only waiting for apple to sort their OS firewire driver (as my mLan devices audio streaming rely on this driver which is buggy now), and after that I´d probably buy it.
I did not hear Duende yet but it is totally different animal-as it is not emulation of Analogue stuff but as far as I know it uses the algorythms from some SSL digital console. Liquid mix emulates mostly analog devices , though I remember it probably does have some Weiss digital stuff too (not sure - and don´t say to Bob Katz that you have "liquid Weiss" :)))
So I think: for the money the LiquidMix is GREAT value COMPARED to plugin bundles that are using native CPU. Do not expect that you´ll get exact sound of a Fairchild, Neve etc. BUT you´ll get very good starting points for tweaking. And you can tweak A LOT with this toy. Specially when it has real knobs

  • Liquid Mix Install Problems

Its late and Focusrite Support is closed. I've installed the software, downloaded the updates and installed them. I can't get my mac to recognize my Liquid Mix. using Logic Pro 7, G5 DP 2.0, presonus Firepod and Mackie Control.
    Any ideas?

    Here are my notes/issues:
    Day One
I am pulling my hair out. I've been tying to get the Liquid Mix working for over 4 hours now. I can't even get logic to recognize it at boot up. Doesnt see the AU plugins. Garage Band shows it, but give me the beach ball of death when I try to select it. I get LM-runtime v0.3.1 on the LCD of the controller and nothing else. I've downloaded and installed updates from Focusrite.
    I've got a G5 Dp 2.0 with Logic Pro.
    Day 2
I am completley bewildered. I still can't get it to run. Finally found some support from CA. This is what she had me do.
    1. Uninstall Liquid Mix
If you would like to remove all Liquid Mix software from your Mac, please remove the following files and directories from your system:
    Liquid Mix Application:
    - Applications/LiquidMix (Application)
    Liquid Mix Emulations:
    - Library/Application Support/LiquidMix (entire directory)
    Liquid Mix Snapshots:
    - Users/'username'/Library/Application Support/LiquidMix (entire directory)
    Liquid Mix VST Plugins:
    - Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/LiquidMixMono.vst
    - Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/LiquidMixStereo.vst
Liquid Mix AudioUnit Plugins (if installed):
    - Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/LiquidMixMono.component
    - Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/LiquidMixStereo.component
Liquid Mix RTAS Plugins (if installed):
    - Library/Application Support/Digidesign/Plugins/VW_LiquidMixMono.vst
    - Library/Application Support/Digidesign/Plugins/VW_LiquidMixStereo.vst
Spot light to find any left over files
    Delete all - empty trash
    2. New Installation
From original disk install the following emulations only:
    44
    88
    192
Install liquid mix software from down loaded file and not from disk
    3. Logic Verification
    Launch Logic
    Got to:
    Preferences
    Start Logic Audio Unit Manager
    Check Status of Liquid Mix
If not validated, then tell it to scan.
Well did all that, no avail. Logic wil not validate the plugs.
Next, installed it on my daughters Intel Imac, no problems. Worked immediately.
I don't know what to do, return it? I've spent so much time on this thing so far and am very frustrated.
I'm running Logic 7.2.2. By the way, even after I uninstall the app. I still never starts from scratch. When I go to install again, it gives me upgrade option only. This is strange as well. Any ideas, I'm out of luck until Monday.

  • Liquid Mix graphics bug?

I recently purchased a Focusrite Liquid Mix to help the processor on my aging / creaking 2006 MacBook Pro.
When I open a Liquid mix plugin and try to move the window the frame of the window moves but the contents/graphics stay in the same place. Anyone else had / still having this problem or is it a bad install or something? This is with Logic 9.1.3 and the latest drivers from Focusrite.
I noticed there is a similar post here back in 2008 by ThorTheGodOfBlunder that was answered by Pancenter as being "More of a Leopard incompatibility problem than Logic, if I'm not mistaken."
Any body still experiencing this problem at all?

  • Unhappy liquid mix

    howdy.
I'm back on a project I did over a month ago. Now for some reason there's no sound unless I bypass the Liquid Mix instance on the main out. If I double click on it, Liquid Mix crashes. But it's working fine on any individual channels, stereo or mono. Even more confusingly, a couple of files have opened with no problems at all.
I'm about to try my test drive (running 10.4.10), and failing that reinstall Liquid Mix, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
I'm running it off the same bus as the 828, but it was fine before. I have upgraded to Liquid Mix v.2, but I can't remember if it was before or after the end of this project.
    Many thanks.

Having it run on the same bus as any other Firewire device is really more attributable to luck than anything else. Liquid Mix is a Firewire hungry device, and the new features within LM2 require a bit more bandwidth.
What you need is to run your LM off of a separate Firewire card.

  • Using Liquid Mix 16 with garageband

Have been successful getting my audio interface, Alesis iO/14 Firewire, to work with garageband. Just bought the new Focusrite Liquid Mix16 for compression and EQ and have installed it, BUT can't see it in garageband. My understanding is that is should show up in the second part of the "details" section under effects. Not there. And for some reason, plug-ins say there was an error during installation, try again. repeatedly. I have plugged the Alesis Firewire into the one firewire port on my Mini, and the Liquid Mix 16 firewire into the Alesis (daisy-chained). Am really wanting to try out this Liquid Mix. Any ideas out there?????
