Ubuntu 13.10 on U410 - Fn keys don't work

Dual-booting Windows 8 and Ubuntu 13.10.
In Ubuntu the Fn>Function Key combination doesn't work - e.g. F11 to make browser full screen doesn't work.
Any one seen this, and is there a fix?
(The non-Fn key functions work perfectly well....)

Now you need to reinstall essentially all the drivers and utilities which make the special features of your computer work. Get them from the download site above. Don't be concerned that there are some drivers available that do not apply to your model.
I recommend that you install the ATI Radeon display driver prior to any other driver. Install the Common Modules before any other Toshiba utility.

Some keys don't work in combination with Shift

Okay so I have the Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b011nr

and today I noticed certain keys don't work in combination with the left Shift for example, Shift+S (both left and right), Shift+M, Shift+Z, Shift +X, Shift+C don't work, shift+F does work but gives me this FV. same with j it gives me JM instead. I installed an updated bios, ran a diagnostic test using F2 and under the compenant test for the keyboard it failed and gave me this

now while trying to type all this I found other letters now working as well as me not being able to input the semicolon with either shift key. frustrating since I got this laptop in June so it's still under warranty. Some of my keys don't work and now I can't login

Yesterday I accidentally spilled some liquid on my keyboard. A vey small amount and generally my computer is fine. I used q tips and paper towels to clean under the keys as best I could, turned it off, and put it in rice. unfortunately a few of my keys don't work--u i j k " : m < . The rest of the keyboard is fine and when I checked my laptop was still working fine. I"ll buy condensed air, and then pop off the keys and clean it if necessary. But I figured even if it didn't fix the problem I'm not buying a new laptop right now so I would just work around the missing keys. But I decided to restart my laptop and now I'm stuck on the login screen bc my password requires some of those keys. I was hoping to use my appleId to get in but I'm never prompted for it after entering wrong passwords. I was going to create a new user and bypass the password but the commands to do that also require those keys. I don't have access to my
installation discs.
Other options?

[Solved]Keyboard layout screwed up and some keys don't work

After I reinstalled xorg-server 1.5.3-1 and installed xf86-input-evdev 2.0.1-1 and xf86-input-keyboard 1.3.1-1 some of my keys don't work and keyboard layout screwed up. I had finnish (fi) layout, but now it's "us". Arrows, insert- delete- home- end- pg up- pg down- print screen- scroll lock- pause- keys don't work. All characters behind Alt Gr + "" don't work either.
How to fix this?

Is the version of Windows 7 Ultimate you have installed 32bit or 64bit?
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers - do you see an existing entry for the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC listed here?
There is an alternative IDT Audio driver you may wish to try on the following link.

Tabulation and arrow keys don�t work through ssh

Hi!
I just got a solaris 10 on a v240. But I loggin through SSH, tabulation key and arroy keys don� t work. It � s quite nasty because I cannot just repeat a command for example, I�ve to type it allover again. I� m quite surprised because I have an old solaris where it does work without problem. Should I change something in the configuration?

csh and sh don't support autocompletion or arrow histories. you'd need tcsh or bash or something.

Whenever i press the enter key it writes the letter p and a space, the same with the P key, also the 0 and the ' key don't work at all. If it's not a hardware problem how can i fix this? After 10.4.7 update, arrow keys don't work

After installing 10.4.7 update, my arrow keys don't work at all in finder (three column mode). I can arrow up and down in list mode.
Any help out there?

I had the same problem on my Satellite A300 after Windows 7 installation. So I downloaded and installed Toshiba Value Added Package. It was pretty easy, just few clicks and one restart. What happened after restart? Yes, the FN keys works!!! :)

Keys don't work with firefox 5.0

I uploaded Firefox 5.0 and now the Home, End, Page Dn/Up keys don't work! I need these on eBay. The arrow keys now send you all the way to the top or bottom of the page with no stops in between. I really hate it when you guys change things; there was nothing wrong with the previous version. Now I have to use Internet Explorer. Boo.

New wireless keyboard & volume keys don't work

I just replaced my wireless keyboard because a few of the keys stopped working. Now the volume keys don't work on the new one. When I push them one of them brings up my widgets and the others minimize the screen. Any Ideas?

Put truly fresh batteries in the keyboard.
Un-pair and re-pair the keyboard with the computer.
Attempt the PRAM reset again.
If you do not get the 2 boot chimes then I would suggest you reset using a USB keyboard. Any USB keyboard will do. If you don't get the 2 chimes when using a USB keyboard then either you are not holding down the keys correctly / early enough or there is something wrong with the computer itself.
If you do get the 2 boot chimes you can then go back to the wireless keyboard and re-pair it.

Volume keys don't work anymore after Gnome 2.26 upgrade

I have two pc: a desktop and a laptop. The desktop doesn't have this problem. While on the laptop, a sony vaio fz21s, after the recent gnome 2.26 upgrade, the volume keys don't work. The osd appears on the screen but no change in volume is observed. Through the gnome-volume-applet i set "Principal" as main device. Controlling the volume with the gnome-volume-applet works.
