Ubuntu Client

Hello Gurus,
Where can i download instant client for ubuntu?

Personally, I'd get the Instant Client ZIP files directly from Oracle http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-097480.html

    While I cannot speak for mac clients, there is a labour intensive method that allows linux distros to be able to connect to AD in a windows environment.  Take a look at
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.12.linux.aspx
    for tips.  Please note, it was designed with the Fedora/Red Hat Core in mind, but ubuntu distro's will also work, you just need the appropriate packages.

  • Ubuntu client flakey connection to  windows 7 server

    Hi.
    This is very strange, but:
    1) server is windows server, and I can connect to it via java app from another windows machine
    2) from ubuntu machine running client app, I can occassionally connect to the Windows Server.
    3) ubuntu server: Linux 2.6.24-24-server , running java version "1.6.0_24"
    4) windows server: Windows 2008 Server 64bit running Oracle 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0
    Both machines are on Subnet 10.* network and firewalls are down on subnet.
    I can ping each machine just fine.
    When I attempt to connect from ubuntu machine the connection DOES (always) show up in v$session on server, but client not is returned a connection (Yet occasionally does).
    I tried to turn on TNS tracing on server but couldn't see any tracing being done (tried setting in sqlnet.ora and listener.ora)
    trace_level_server = 10
    trace_file_server = server.trc
    trace_directory_server = <path_to_trace_dir>
    I also tried client side logging with using ojdbc6_g.jar and starting up the java prog like:
    java -Doracle.jdbc.Trace=true -Djava.util.logging.config.file=jdbc.properties
    jdbc.properties :
    .level=SEVERE
    oracle.jdbc.level=FINER
    oracle.jdbc.handlers=java.util.logging.FileHandler
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.level=FINER
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.pattern=jdbc.log
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.count=1
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.formatter=java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter
    But didn't get any tell-tale signs...
    Can anyone give me some suggestions to check on for A) the java program connectivity and/or B) the tracing problem on server?
    Thanks,
    Joel

    This forum is dealing with connections from Oracle to foreign database using the gateway.
    For me it looks like you're having a JDBC connection issue which is better handled in this forum:
    https://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=288
    If my understanding is correct, please close this thread and repost it in the JDBC forum.

  • Share a folder to an Ubuntu client?

    I have an old PC notebook on which I installed Ubuntu Linux. (It's not OSX but it's much better than Windoze.) My iMac (running 10.5.6) is sharing my account's Public folder but, from any other Mac, I can log in as me and access the entire hard drive.
    I'd like to do the same from my Ubuntu machine but I only see my Public folder and I'm never asked for my password. I do have Windows file sharing turned on in the iMac. I tried sharing my entire iMac HD but, again, no authentication is ever asked yet I can see into almost all the folders in the HD but not into my Desktop nor Documents and many others simply report they're empty.
    I don't understand why the Ubuntu machine even lets me mount my iMac's HD without asking for authentication. This is why I'm asking the question here rather than over at the Ubuntu forums. I did see something over there about having to enable (or install) NFS support on the iMac.
    Advice and suggestions gratefully accepted.
    Thanks!

    D-oh! The answer was to use the "Connect to Server" item in the "Places" menu, select "Windows Share" from the popup, fill in the IP address, the name of the share point (my hard drive name), and click the "Connect" button. A dialog appears and asks for the password (and assumes you belong to "WORKGROUP" which is true unless you're on a domain).
    Kinda like OSX in a seductively friendly way...

  • Connecting Ubuntu client to Yosemite server VPN

    i have searched for info on this and all I have found are other unanswered questions and links to non OSX server solutions.   Surely connecting a Ubuntu PC to an apple network via VPN is commonplace?  Not often you still find the Mac vs the rest of the world problem nowdays.  Thanks,  Alex

    Hello.  Apologies for bumping this question but there are quite a few unanswered questions on the internet relating to this.  I seems illogical to me that it is not straightforward to link a Linux machine to an OS X server network remotely?      Surely this is relatively easy and I have got the wrong end of the stick somewhere?  Thanks for your input.  Alex

    Hi Everyone
    We have blocked access on Perimeter Routers for Some specific ports like telnet , SSH etc

    If some body installs Ubuntu 9.04 Virtual Machine and then invokes virtual XP some how  the user gets 10 series IP and still manages to access the servers
    How can i block the same
    While checking for IP Accounting on Router there are no traces on the Vitual IP but server login details shows the IP address from whcih accessed with source IP as 10.x.x.x

There is an opensource solution to connect without installing database on the client machine ?You certainly dont need a full database install on the ubuntu client, client components only are required.
    Because your target is a downrev oracle database version you might need to use client compoents like linux 9i to be successful :- [http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/linuxsoft.html]. The more modern 'instantclient' [http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html], [http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html] does not appear available at this verion. Its possilble this version might have issues when installing this version on ubuntu 9.04 ... i simply don't know and too hard for me to look up.
    I personally am unaware of any thin client driver technology that would help you here, that isnt to saythere isnt one.
    This si not an area i am now current in, i merely really wish to say you do not need a full database install.

  • How do I change the printer resolution?

    How do I change the printer resolution on my OSX 10.6.2 laptop?
    I have an ubuntu print server and it seems to only work at all using the gutenprint drivers. On my ubuntu client I had to change the print resolution from "auto" to 600x600 to make it work just fine.
    The best I can do is make the Mac print pages squished down to 1/4 size. I don't see the same resolution option on the Mac.
    Mac OSX 10.6.2
    Ubuntu Server 9.10
    Printer: Canon S900
    Cups driver: Canon S800 Gutenprint v5.2.3
    Cups version 1.4.2 on the mac
    Cups version 1.3.9 on Ubuntu Server
    Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.2)

    I can't speak for the printer directly, but most functions to change resolution are in the dropdown menu at the bottom of the print dialog. It has a gray bar running through it separating the basic functions from the advanced settings.
    If you don't see that, but do see a blue button with a black triangle pointing down, click on that. Then you'll be able to set the advanced settings.
    Once you set up the printer the way you like, save it as a preset. If you want that as a default, see this [MacOSXHint|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20100125135830153].

  • Folder names with diacritics & NFS shares

    OK; sometimes things appear simple but are not. Sharing files with an OSX client has been, and is a nightmare in a Linux environment.
    We have a mostly Ubuntu environment and have tried Samba, and NFS. After a significant amount of work the Mac can do stable NFS Mounts provided the following unconventional settings are implemented:
    In the /etc/exports file on the Ubuntu server:
    /some/catalog/to/export 192.168.0.0/24(rw,sync,nosubtree_check,allsquash,anonuid=1000,anongid=1000,insecure)
    - anonuid needs to be user ID of the user on the server that is the owner of the catalog
    - anongid needs to be group ID of the group on the server that is the primary group for of the catalog
    On the Mac in Disk Utility/File/NFS Mounts:
    - Enter the correct paths
    - click "Advanced" and fill in: resvport,nolocks,locallocks,intr,soft,wsize=32768,rsize=32768
    This finally let's you mount the share
    However, after using the share for a while we discovered that folder names on the share that contains diacritic characters, including characters å,ä,ö and Å,Ä,Ö did not display in the file listing in Finder (In Path Finder Folder names are replaced with " -- "), nor could the folder be opened. However, right-clicking the " -- " in Path Finder and selecting "Get info" did display the correct path to the folder and did display the diacritic characters in the path correctly.
    In a catalog containing 264 folders that all had the same owner and the same group & permissions, 94 did not display properly in OSX/Finder and none could be opened. All 94 contained one or more diacritic characters (åäö or ÅÄÖ). None of the 170 others did contain any diacritics. Spaces, and e.g. "&" does not cause problems.
    With an Ubuntu client I can NFS mount the same server, and I do get the folder names displayed correctly and I can open the folders. It appears likely there is a bug in OSX - likely in Finder/Path Finder, since the correct path name is displayed in "Get Info".

    Gave up on this and downloaded Interarchy (RBrowser seems similar). This is not NFS and not Samba; rather FTP over SSH (SFTP). Secure, even for remote access and works out of the box, like breeze. All access rights intact . And there is a preview of file, rather that open on remote server...

  • Host-based OpenLDAP Authentication On Mac OS X Mountain Lion

    Hello All,
    I'm sorry if this is the wrong group to post such a question, or if this has been already answered.
    I have openldap (slapd version 2.4.31-1+nmu2ubuntu8) running on Ubuntu Server 14.04. The 'hostObject' objectClass is added in the OpenLDAP directory. The 'host' attribute is added under all ldap users, which allows users to access just those particular hosts. Apple schema has been added as well.
    I have a ubuntu client that authenticates users against the ldap server. The ubuntu client is configured to perform host-based authentication via pam modules. Only users that have access to the Ubuntu client can login, and others are denied access. I also have a Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5) client that authenticates users against the same openldap server. All network users can login through the login window. I would like to restrict access to the Mountain Lion client based on hosts, as I've it on the Ubuntu client.
    I tried to search for documentation on this, but didn't find any good one. Most of the documentation suggest that network user access be controlled on the Mountain Lion client. I'd really like to have that control on ldap server and not on client. Also, restricting network user access using 'Users & Groups' settings in System Preferences fails. All ldap users are blocked from login.
    I have successfully tested host-based authentication on a Ubuntu Server 10.04 client that is connected to the same ldap server. So, I know host based authentication works. I would really appreciate if anyone could shed some light on this, or point me to a document that talks about host-based authentication on Mac OS X Mountain Lion client.
    Thanks,
    Amit

    I just found the anwer to my own issue. The installation failed on Jam Pack Content 3 disk. To finish the installation I need to go to the Logic Pro Main menu under the item Download supplemental content

  • Can't mount NFS share via GUI

    Mac OS X 10.8.2
    MacBookPro5,3
    Hello,
    I've recently upgraded to OS X 10.8.2 and am having great difficulty in mounting my NFS shares via the OSX GUI. This worked fine at OS X 10.6.
    My aim is to provide an automount type of setup so that less experienced users don't have to worry about the command line.
    Can someone please point me in the right direction here?
    This is what I've tried to date.
    My NFS service is hosted on my Debian server. It supports NFS v4. The service is working and stable and is used routinely with Ubuntu clients. It has also worked with OS X 10.6 clients in the past, but not with OS X 10.7 clients.
    To date I have tried the following options:
    Mount via finder: Connect to server option using syntax: nfs://<user>@<server>/<share>
    setting up autofs using the instructions from pmbuko
    using the command line to mount the share.
    The first option failed repeatedly.  I did find that it would eventually work, though only after I'd manually mounted the share at the command line.
    I have not been able to get the second option to work.
    I initiate autofs using the command 'automount -vc' and see that the connection is recognised
    when I attempt to cd into a directory below the mount point, I eventually get the message 'Connection Refused'.
    when I check my Debian logs, I find that the NFS service had actually received an authenticated mount request from the Mac.
    when I check my Mac Console logs, I see an error:kernel: nfs_connect: socket error 61 for <server>/<share>
    I was able to get the third option working, but only after using the '-o resvport' option.
    'Something' does appear to be broken with OS X 10.8.2  as an NFS client.
    Any thoughts?

    I have found a work around that meets my imediate needs, though it doesn't allow me to use autofs functionality.
    The work around uses the traditional Unix/Linux approach of automatically mounting a file system or NFS share via fstab at boot time. OS X 10.8 still supports fstab, even though the file is not included in the default installation.
    Once mounted, the NFS share appears as if it is part of the normal file system.
    The following is only intended for people confident in Unix or Linux systems administration and in using a shell environment via the command line. Do not attempt this if you do not have these skills.
    To set up for fstab, do the following within a terminal session:
    create an empty directory in your file system that you can use as your mount point for your NFS share:
    sudo mkdir /data/share
    sudo chown root:wheel /data/share
    using your favourite editor, create the fstab file (in a terminal type 'man fstab' for details)
    sudo vi /etc/fstab
    add similar to the following to /etc/fstab and then save and exit, substituting your own values where appropriate
    # My NFS share
    <your-server>:/<your-share> /data/share nfs  resvport,rw,hard,intr 0 0
    sudo chown root:wheel /etc/fstab
    Please note: you may not need the resvport option in the fstab line above. It will depend on your NFS server's requirements.
    Once you have done this, reboot your Mac and your NFS share should be mounted at the mount point that you defined.
    If not, check your logs to see what went wrong.

  • Connection displays no objects

    Hi!
    I installed on my Mac 10.6 Oracle SQL Developer 3.0.04
    On a server (Debian) I installed a Oracle XE 10g Database.
    I did a connection to a user on this database (works!)
    But the SQL Developer shows no objects!
    Other Connections (sys on that server) display objects!
    On a Ubuntu Client I installed also SQL Developer 3.0.04 and I did the same connection to that Debian Server. This connection shows objects.
    What could be the problem?
    Thanks for any help!
    Gerhard

    Hi!
    Today I deleted this connection and created it from new. And it works!
    I think, I must be careful in the future?!
