Ubuntu One anyone?
****I saw another topic that was similar, but it was old and wasn't entirely the same as what I would like to accomplish.****
Hello there!
I just installed Arch yesterday and I love it so far!
My only problem with it so far is that it doesn't have direct support for Ubuntu One. I got the packages from the AUR, but it seems like they are terminal-only.
If there is someone who has a way to install Ubuntu One with a GUI as it would make everything a lot easier for me.
If you could point me in the right direction or link me to a How-to or flat out tell me it cant be done, that would be great.
Thanks a lot!
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30081 - Ubuntu One client
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ubuntuone - Wiki
Follow the instruction's and that should get you started. i cant say personally. because i dont use it
also you might find more answers in this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=96786
But i dont understand why you would want to use Ubuntu ONE on archlinux. why not just install ubuntu and use it because it similiar to Dropbox and based on ubuntu software. also used for commenting on packages in there software center. etc
Just setup dropbox in archlinux. same thing, but more useful towards arch and windows etc
Also id suggest posting on the ubuntu forum's. they have a section for other OS's and your more likely to find someone who knows ubuntu one inside out over there who might be able to help

[REQUEST] Ubuntu One client
Hello everyone.
I know Ubuntu definitely has its share of issues, but I always preferred their implementation of cloud storage (and lately haven't even experienced much in the way of bugs), over Dropbox. Also the paid storage is cheaper, which is a big selling point for me.
I inquired with Canonical about a possible client for other distributions, in light of a Windows release coming soon. This is their response:
Hi,
We don't have packages available for other Linux distributions but would
like to work with anyone who is interested in packaging Ubuntu One for
other distributions. If you or someone you know is interested in doing
this for Arch or any other Linux distro, please let me know and I'll get
you in touch with the right people on the Ubuntu One team.
Thanks,
Joshua Hoover
Thanks in advance!
I don't have the know-how to build a PKGBUILD, and am still fairly new to Arch (been using Debian for about 5 months before now, and Ubuntu before that). If it's a simple process I could try and figure it out, but I am not so sure I could do that.
Last edited by mrmylanman (2011-04-12 22:20:06)I did some adapting for the PKGBUILD, and I got he storage service to compile (awesome!). There are two other things that are needed (now. I think back then it was 2). When I do the client, I get a compile error. There is also a control panel I will need, but I haven't attempted to compiled that, as the client should be a dependency of that.

[SOLVED]Problem with Ubuntu One related python module gi.repository
So, I have Ubuntu One working on another Arch install, but I just put it on my new laptop today, and it's not working. Installed with no apparent problems. However, when I try to run

I read on some Ubuntu site that it might help to reinstall python-gobjects, though the package is different on Arch (which I guess is a given), and it pulled in python3, so, as you might imagine, it didn't work.
When I run `ubuntuone-launch` or `u1sdtool` I don't get an error, but nothing happens either (no prompt for login). I searched google and the forums and the wiki, so sorry if I missed something obvious. Don't know anything about python either, beyond "hello-world.py" (and that I had to put parenthesis around the print statement in order to "port my software" to python3)
Last edited by ninjaaron (2012-10-24 05:12:04)I only had python2-gobject2 (well, and python-gobject, and python-gobject2). Installed python2-gobject and it works now.
Thanks!
SOLVED

Hello folks,
I installed ubuntuone-client from the AUR and learnt to use the u1sdtool command to log in to Ubuntu One.
However, my syncing seems to have frozen. Here are the results of some common commands:
$ u1sdtool --status
ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for Unity
State: QUEUE_MANAGER
connection: With User With Network
description: processing the commands pool
is_connected: True
is_error: False
is_online: True
queues: IDLE
$ u1sdtool --current
ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for Unity
Current uploads: 0
Current downloads: 0
Nothing happens when I do 'u1sdtool --start' or 'u1sdtool --connect'.
Any help will be appreciated! Also, is there a way to somehow reset everything so I can start from entering my username and password all over again? I tried deleting the 'ubuntuone' folders in '.local' and '.config', but it didn't work.
Thanks!
Last edited by atriya (2011-09-01 08:44:22)Can you be a bit more specific as to the package you are trying to install? I don't see a package by the name you gave.
I am thinking I should close this ancient thread and have you create a request instead.
Also, you did not mention if you had searched the topic, but, in about 10 seconds, I found this thread -
[SOLVED] Ubuntu One, networkmanager vs wicd
ubuntuone-control-panel-qt works, and I can login to Ubuntu One, but no files are synced.
$ u1sdtool -s
State: READY
connection: With User Not Network
description: ready to connect
is_connected: False
is_error: False
is_online: False
queues: IDLE
$ cat .cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log
dbus.proxies - ERROR - Introspect error on org.freedesktop.NetworkManager:/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1
I'm on a wireless network and using wicd, is that the problem? Do I have to change from wicd to NetworkManager for it to work?
This bug might be related Bug #456292 “can't connect under Xubuntu” : Bugs : Ubuntu One Client
Last edited by sveinelo (2012-07-08 21:13:24)Removing networkmanager fixed the problem. Ubuntu One now working with wicd
sudo pacman -Rs networkmanager
Now, how do I mark this as SOLVED? Hmm...

Ubuntu One: no systray icon
I have been using Ubuntu One since past one month on my Arch_Gnome-shell 3.8_64bit. Its working good.
However, there is no systray icon (the cloud icon) in the notification bar. Without it I am forced to open the GUI all the time. I don't know if this is normal for Ubuntu One on arch_Gnome or whether I missed something.
Is there a way to get that 'cloud' icon on the systray?
I have searched the web and wiki but nothing relates to the issue. I will re-search again though.
I was hoping if some out here have figured a resolution.here is my tint2 file

Ubuntu One is ending Filelink. Will Thunderbird have a replacement?
I've received an email from Ubuntu One informing me that they will be ending file services as of June 1, 2014. I assume this means that Filelink will no longer be available on Thunderbird for the purpose of posting large attachments. If this is the case, will Thunderbird provide an alternative in the next version?
I believe they are working on it. Until then, Dropbox is an alternative.

Hi All,
Late last year I upgraded from tiger to leopard (very out of date I know) but ever since I have been getting warnings that my startup disk is full. I have deleted loads including pictures and itunes but still get the same mesage. I think when I upgraded the old version was stored somewhere and this might be causing the problem. Does anyone know where I would be able to find and delete - or alternatively have any other suggestions for what the problem may be?
Many thanksWOW
80GB is a very small drive.
Sorry Noondaywitch, but omni disk sweeper isn't going to install in the space remaining, without more problems.
My Suggestions
1. Get a large (400GB+) USB hard drive
2. Copy all the contents of your home directory to the USB drive.
3. Delete all your files from your home directory on your computer after making sure everything transferred ok.
4. Perform a clean (destructive) install of Mac OSX and then the applications you need.
5. Check how much space you have left.
6. If there is less than 50% of the HDD space left (35GB or so), then consider replacing the HDD with a new larger one. If it's a white intel mac book, then this is very easy, and instructions how to do it are included in your 'everything else' wallet with your OSX DVDs etc.
7. If you can't replace the HDD, then it's time to consider a new machine i'm afraid.
Hope this helps

Need good suggestions on this one - anyone?
I am designing a database in Oracle 10g Express Edition - Database looks fine and I am in the final phase.
I am twisting my head over (have been looking at websites to see how they do things in general and am not yet convinced) how to create the process booking request on my site when it comes to how a customer will be registered.
I am creating booking requests on 6 categories: hotels, vacation rentals, camping, home exchange, tours and flights (only business charter flights).
I have started with making the Customer table where customer is identified with a number and same Customer ID can be used in all booking requests for that particular customer. Now... it is unpopular to have to log in to be able to book things, maybe it is something that is supposed to be or maybe not. So I am thinking and twisting again, my head i.e., how to do this? What would be the ideal process of creating a booking and what would be an ideal identificator on customer? In this world of spam I do not want to use customers e-mails for mailing news etc., so that is said.
Should I let the customer write his/her info again and again in every new request or should I keep some sort of register on them?
Anyone who has been around with this dilemma?
Suggestions?
Smart ideas highly appreciated :)
Anyone? ? - Obviously I am not the most experienced one - therefore need the forums even more.. I would appreciate a discussion on this one - since I am sweating over studying Oracle process ;)

nullHrefna,
We had the same problem when we created www.teetimes.com which is a golf course teetime website for hundreds of golf courses. What we ended up doing is what most web sites do, let the user create a user id and password pair. We also asked them to pick out two challenge question and give us the answers which we stored and used to validate a request for a forgotten password. You have to make sure there are no duplicate user/password pairs by the way. This allows you to give the user a 'global' identity which we used to let them play on any of the courses we served. You might also want to filter for bad words and sql injection.
Hope this helps

TS3230 I can't open web based PDF files - the page is just a black one - anyone?
Can anyone help me? I can't open PDF attachments - online the page opos up as blank and black, and with emails on gmail - the document just wont open. I have tried to reload my adobe reader to no avail.
Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
My password is not working, its the right one, anyone have any ideas?
A tiny bit of tea spashed on my keyboard today. I turned it upside down and dried it well, and it seemed to be working-playing music, etc, but laterscreens opening really slowly. I turned it off, turned back on no problem, but now my password no longer opens it up. I'm running a big eco-festival tomorrow, and am pretty stuck without my mac. Not sure about the operating system. I bought it at the very end of 2010.
Thanks!Had similar issue calling Apple seems to be the only way to resolve the problem. The issue can be resolved when you get to iTunes, since they are the ones that keep this info. They will ask you your security questions and your purchases software, music etc. Once they are happy with your answers they will get you back up. If you choose you could go the route of forgot my password etc. but I never had any luck with that. Just my 2 cents.

[INFO] Canonical to shutdown Ubuntu One Cloud Storage
Canonical, it seems, has too much going on and no longer wishes to provide the one thing they actually did quite well... UbuntuOne Death Day is 31st July 2014 - make sure you have moved all your UbuntuOne data by then or it will be deleted off their servers
Article here: http://www.unixmen.com/canonical-shuts- … e-servicesPackages on ubuntuone in Arch will be dropped to AUr in the next week too.

Ubuntu One "Host Rquires Authentication"
Arch, fresh install. I installed ubuntuone-clinet and the control panel.
When I try to log in, I get the message "Host Rquires Authentication" where I would normally get informed of bad creds. When I put in bad creds, I get a different error.
Googling the error, I get advice about going into seahorse and removing entries with ubuntuone. I open seahorse, and there is nothing there.
I don't know how to get debug information from that window, so I'm stuck. If I run the qt control panel from the command line, I don't get any relevant debug info.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.Hi,
Could you provide more information about your environment. for example, the Hyper-V server version of the problem on, screenshots is the best information.
Thanks.

Security Breach on the Ubuntu Forums
So apparently the ubuntu forums got hacked and someone made out with 2 million usernames, passwords and email adresses- ouch! Their site is currently down. Just posting as an FYI because their advice is to change your password if you have an account there and use it for multiple sites.
Ubuntu Forums is down for maintenance
There has been a security breach on the Ubuntu Forums. The Canonical IS team is working hard as we speak to restore normal operations. This page will be updated regularly with progress reports.
What we know
Unfortunately the attackers have gotten every user's local username, password, and email address from the Ubuntu Forums database.
The passwords are not stored in plain text, they are stored as salted hashes. However, if you were using the same password as your Ubuntu Forums one on another service (such as email), you are strongly encouraged to change the password on the other service ASAP.
Ubuntu One, Launchpad and other Ubuntu/Canonical services are NOT affected by the breach.
Progress report
2013-07-20 2011UTC: Reports of defacement
2013-07-20 2015UTC: Site taken down, this splash page put in place while investigation continues.

Unfortunately md5 hashes even with salt are easily crackable. On the other hand, it's just a forum account and since they alerted people early, anyone foolish enough to use the same password elseware can change the other password on time.
One thing I disliked is that they haven't alerted people by email, at least I haven't got one yet. I got this information from various source, but many people (dormant accounts / less frequent users) are unlikely to know of it.
