Ubuntu One: no systray icon
I have been using Ubuntu One since past one month on my Arch_Gnome-shell 3.8_64bit. Its working good.
However, there is no systray icon (the cloud icon) in the notification bar. Without it I am forced to open the GUI all the time. I don't know if this is normal for Ubuntu One on arch_Gnome or whether I missed something.
Is there a way to get that 'cloud' icon on the systray?
I have searched the web and wiki but nothing relates to the issue. I will re-search again though.
I was hoping if some out here have figured a resolution.
here is my tint2 file

[SOLVED]Problem with Ubuntu One related python module gi.repository
So, I have Ubuntu One working on another Arch install, but I just put it on my new laptop today, and it's not working. Installed with no apparent problems. However, when I try to run
$ ubuntuone-control-panel-qt
I get these messages (the last line is the only one that contains an actual error message):

I read on some Ubuntu site that it might help to reinstall python-gobjects, though the package is different on Arch (which I guess is a given), and it pulled in python3, so, as you might imagine, it didn't work.
When I run `ubuntuone-launch` or `u1sdtool` I don't get an error, but nothing happens either (no prompt for login). I searched google and the forums and the wiki, so sorry if I missed something obvious. Don't know anything about python either, beyond "hello-world.py" (and that I had to put parenthesis around the print statement in order to "port my software" to python3)
Last edited by ninjaaron (2012-10-24 05:12:04)I only had python2-gobject2 (well, and python-gobject, and python-gobject2). Installed python2-gobject and it works now.
Thanks!

So on my desktop, one line of icons is frozen, although the same icons are also on my desktop and actually working. Also the edge of a window is frozen. Lastly, on the right of the top bar, the little icons like battery, wifi, etc. are frozen as shadows underneath all the working icons... Basically everything is working right, just "copies" of the others are frozen...
Check in System Preferences>Universal Access and see if Zoom is on. If you have toddlers or cats this can accidentally turned on by hitting a group of keys that include Option + Command + 8.
To prevent this being accidentally activated in the future go to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Universal Access and uncheck all the boxes. -
Hello folks,
I installed ubuntuone-client from the AUR and learnt to use the u1sdtool command to log in to Ubuntu One.
However, my syncing seems to have frozen. Here are the results of some common commands:
$ u1sdtool --status
ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for Unity
State: QUEUE_MANAGER
connection: With User With Network
description: processing the commands pool
is_connected: True
is_error: False
is_online: True
queues: IDLE
$ u1sdtool --current
ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for Unity
Current uploads: 0
Current downloads: 0
Nothing happens when I do 'u1sdtool --start' or 'u1sdtool --connect'.
Any help will be appreciated! Also, is there a way to somehow reset everything so I can start from entering my username and password all over again? I tried deleting the 'ubuntuone' folders in '.local' and '.config', but it didn't work.
Thanks!

I am thinking I should close this ancient thread and have you create a request instead.
Also, you did not mention if you had searched the topic, but, in about 10 seconds, I found this thread -
[SOLVED] Ubuntu One, networkmanager vs wicd
ubuntuone-control-panel-qt works, and I can login to Ubuntu One, but no files are synced.
$ u1sdtool -s
State: READY
connection: With User Not Network
description: ready to connect
is_connected: False
is_error: False
is_online: False

$ cat .cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log

I'm on a wireless network and using wicd, is that the problem? Do I have to change from wicd to NetworkManager for it to work?
This bug might be related Bug #456292 “can't connect under Xubuntu” : Bugs : Ubuntu One Client
Last edited by sveinelo (2012-07-08 21:13:24)Removing networkmanager fixed the problem. Ubuntu One now working with wicd
sudo pacman -Rs networkmanager
Now, how do I mark this as SOLVED? Hmm...

****I saw another topic that was similar, but it was old and wasn't entirely the same as what I would like to accomplish.****
Hello there!
I just installed Arch yesterday and I love it so far!
My only problem with it so far is that it doesn't have direct support for Ubuntu One. I got the packages from the AUR, but it seems like they are terminal-only.
If there is someone who has a way to install Ubuntu One with a GUI as it would make everything a lot easier for me.
If you could point me in the right direction or link me to a How-to or flat out tell me it cant be done, that would be great.
Thanks a lot!http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30081 - Ubuntu One client
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ubuntuone - Wiki
Follow the instruction's and that should get you started. i cant say personally. because i dont use it
also you might find more answers in this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=96786
But i dont understand why you would want to use Ubuntu ONE on archlinux. why not just install ubuntu and use it because it similiar to Dropbox and based on ubuntu software. also used for commenting on packages in there software center. etc
Just setup dropbox in archlinux. same thing, but more useful towards arch and windows etc
Also id suggest posting on the ubuntu forum's. they have a section for other OS's and your more likely to find someone who knows ubuntu one inside out over there who might be able to help

Ubuntu One is ending Filelink. Will Thunderbird have a replacement?
I've received an email from Ubuntu One informing me that they will be ending file services as of June 1, 2014. I assume this means that Filelink will no longer be available on Thunderbird for the purpose of posting large attachments. If this is the case, will Thunderbird provide an alternative in the next version?
I believe they are working on it. Until then, Dropbox is an alternative.

I want know, why the systray icons, of my panel like icons of amarok or amsn ,sometimes, become some small windows that are large like an icon...
Last edited by natostanco (2008-03-11 06:58:01)Hah yeah, that happens on startup - don't really know why never bothered. Kill and restart em, or wait for a new tray item.

I am using Amarok under gnome, and systray icon is missing (it is enabled in amarok).Only some white icon with questionmark is showed, and rightclick on it showes amarok meny.Everywhere else con is showed ok.
This is happening after last update, I guess.
What can be done to fix this?I hate to advertise my own post, but this has already been discussed and a bug report filed:

Action Center SysTray Icon: "Scheduled Scan"
I see a "hour" subicon in the Action Center SysTray Icon, action center says "Scheduled Scan". Where to find the scan information in the Action Center control panel?
More deeply:
Have a Windows Defender scheduled scan running.
The Action Center icon changes.
You click on the icon.
A pop-up appers - "Scheduled Scan | Review recent messages... | Open Action Center"
Click "Open Action Center".
Received "no issues found" and have a (notification) clean window.
So where to find that a scheduled scan is running?
[ Yes, I can click the Scheduled Scan line in the Action Center, but if I go to the Action Center over Control Panels? Additionally, the Action Center icon is part of Action Center, right? ]
PS: The "Schedules Scan" text does not give me any impression that something is in progress... there's no verb, nor who is showing the text. (so I were confused because I was not able to find why the icon changed for ages.)

[REQUEST] Ubuntu One client
Hello everyone.
I know Ubuntu definitely has its share of issues, but I always preferred their implementation of cloud storage (and lately haven't even experienced much in the way of bugs), over Dropbox. Also the paid storage is cheaper, which is a big selling point for me.
I inquired with Canonical about a possible client for other distributions, in light of a Windows release coming soon. This is their response:
Hi,
We don't have packages available for other Linux distributions but would
like to work with anyone who is interested in packaging Ubuntu One for
other distributions. If you or someone you know is interested in doing
this for Arch or any other Linux distro, please let me know and I'll get
you in touch with the right people on the Ubuntu One team.
Thanks,
Joshua Hoover
Thanks in advance!
I don't have the know-how to build a PKGBUILD, and am still fairly new to Arch (been using Debian for about 5 months before now, and Ubuntu before that). If it's a simple process I could try and figure it out, but I am not so sure I could do that.
Last edited by mrmylanman (2011-04-12 22:20:06)I did some adapting for the PKGBUILD, and I got he storage service to compile (awesome!). There are two other things that are needed (now. I think back then it was 2). When I do the client, I get a compile error. There is also a control panel I will need, but I haven't attempted to compiled that, as the client should be a dependency of that.

How to properly get rid of the SATA drives in "Safely Remove Hw"(systray Icon)
If you have the nvidia ide and or raid enabled (using the nv/sw ide driver) you have the
drives listed under add/remove hw icon in systray .
To have it gone from now and forever use this dword in registry .
Code: [Select]
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvata]
"DisableRemovable"=dword:00000001
Open notepad and copy/paste in this , then save it as a reg file , e.g : dis_removable.reg
Double click it to merge into registry.
Do do it manually in registry :
Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvata
Create a dword value named "DisableRemovable" without the quotes and set the value to 1
If you dont have the nvata key (e.g nforce 3 drivers) do the same in :
Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvatabus
Create a dword value named "DisableRemovable" without the quotes and set the value to 1
Before :
Samsungs are in Raid-0 (nvraid/nvata).
The other two is single disks (nvata).
After:
All gone , just the USB left as it should be
If you dont have any fw(1394) or usb removables , the entire "Safely Remove HW" is also gone from systray
Reg files zip:
nvata-removable.zipQuote from: gildan2020 on 19-August-06, 15:05:30
I have an external SATA hard disk. edit: using firewire as the connection port
If I use this registry, will I still be able to safely remove my external hard disk?
All sata disks are connected to the same controller ports on the nvidia motherboard ,
the controller doesn't know if it's an internal disk or one externally connected through a e-sata bracket .
So as said earlier (in post #4) : dont use the reg key if you plan add/remove sata disks in general (internal disks or external disks) .
But in your case if the sata hd box is firewire connected it's an external firewire disk from the OS point of view,
so the reg key doesnt affect this drives ability to stop via "safely remove hw" and it will still be there .
It would only affect you if you had sata all the way . -
Systray icon in AIR strange bitmap problem
Hi there i recently tried to have one of my apps docked to systray instead of taskbar so i've used pretty much the examples floating around and everything went smoothly except the icon itself. I used standard 16x16 png file and it got scrambled looks like each 4th line is shown or something like that. So i've tried with JPG and ended with pure code generated bitmap data but always with the same result. Here is a screenshot of my systray when using new BitmapData(16,16,false,0xFF0000) and assigning it to the bitmaps array of the icon.
To the left is my AIR application icon which should be 16x16 sized red square however once again glitched. To the right is the classic gtalk icon.
Everything else except the graphics itself works perfectly.
Any ideas of whats going on? Or is this some kind of bug in the latest AIR? By the way i am using AIR 2.5
Thank you.Ok did further testing and it seems to be AIR 2.5 problem only. In previous AIR the bitmap is displayed correctly, so i've filed a bug report to Adobe.

My icons all changed from the program icon to one Microsoft Office icon
I was reviewing emails and was reading one....I have no idea what I did, but all the desktop icons for my various programs were all changed to one icon....which is an icon for Microsoft Office 2010. I have tried to figure out what I need to do to reset them to what they were originally. Does anyone know how to do this? Can the explaination be in user friendly terminology, please.
1. Open Windows Explorer (any folder/drive).
2. As the IconCache is a hidden file, you need to enable “Show hidden files” option to see the same. To do this, head over to Tools > Folder Options, switch to View tab, and finally enable Show Hidden files, folders, and drives option.
3. Now navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local folder and then delete IconCache.db file. Here username is your user profile name.
4. Reboot your computer to rebuild the icon cache.
5. All icons should be displayed correct now.
Alternately, you can download a tool from the following weblink that will do this for you:
http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/141/0/e/Rebuild_Icon_Cache_v0_7b_by_screeny05.rar
The tool has three options, one to rebuild the icon cache, another one to restore the original icon cache file and third option to delete the back up file of icon cache. When you rebuild the cache, it takes a back up of existing IconCache.db.
I am an HP employee.

Vidya
