UC 540 Bandwidth Speed Trouble and MTU settings

I have a UC540 that is having a bandwidth problem. When I device is connected directly to the cable modem we see around 30Mbps. When the cable modem is plugged into the wan interface on the UC540 and then a computer is plugged into one of the lan switch ports we are seeing an average of 15Mbps. So it seems I am losing half of my internet speed through the UC 540. I have tried disabling the firewall and they on average only nets a 3Mbps gain. Cisco SMB support suggested adjusting the MTU setting lower but could not instruct me how to do so. I need help changing the MTU setting on the UC 540 and also would open to suggestions as to what is causing me to lose 15Mbps of bandwidth speed through the UC 540.

IOS Version 15.0(1)XA2. The wan is a cablevision cable modem internet connection with a dynamic ip address. The internal lan is dhcp and has a voice and data vlan. Nothing fancy much beyond that.

  • Slow internet speed because of RWIN and MTU

    I've got a problem with cable modem "DHCP" speed the default internet settings for arch are very slow for me on a 2mb connection, I get 1700kbps max where as on other distros and windows i'm getting 1960+kbps the issue is RWIN size and MTU size.
    With the default settings my RWIN is "128960" when it should be set to "51100" for my speed, also MTU is 576 which is very low (dialup MTU speed I think) for a cable modem which should be "1500".
    I've tried setting my RWIN size in /etc/sysctl.conf like this in arch:
    # Tweaks for faster broadband...
    net.core.rmem_default = 51100
    net.core.rmem_max = 51100
    net.core.wmem_default = 51100
    net.core.wmem_max = 51100
    net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 51100 51100 51100
    net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 51100 51100 51100
    net.ipv4.tcp_mem = 51100 51100 51100
    net.ipv4.tcp_rfc1337 = 1
    net.ipv4.ip_no_pmtu_disc = 0
    net.ipv4.tcp_sack = 1
    net.ipv4.tcp_fack = 1
    net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling = 0
    net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps = 0
    net.ipv4.tcp_ecn = 0
    net.ipv4.route.flush = 1
    With extra tweaks for window scaling 0, timestamps 0 etc.. and done "sudo sysctrl -p" to set it.
    But after retesting my settings at dslreports.com I get a very low RWIN like "9654" for some reason, does anyone know how to permanently set it to "51100" ?
    I also have a problem with settings MTU I done "sudo ifconfig eth0 mtu 1500" that works fine but gets reset on reboot, I've looked though this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=82093 and it needs to be set in "/etc/network/interfaces" but I have no such directory.
    So anyone know how to Permanently RWIN MTU for a DHCP network in arch?
    EDIT: I've managed to set MTU to 1500 on boot now speeds are up to 1958kbps, now just wondering about RWIN

    You probably want tcp_window_scaling = 1, not 0.
    Window scaling is used to let you have a bigger window size. The only reason to turn it off is if you are behind a router that distorts your TCP packets and causes connection issues. There is such a router between my school and the internet, and so I have my network script shut off tcp_window_scaling when connecting to the wireless at school. But I keep it on elsewhere.
    Try turning it on and giving it a go.

  • Configuring speed and duplex settings of monitoring NIC under IDS v4.1

    Good day,
    While I know that, unlike IPS v5.0 where you can configure interface-specific settings via IDM, you cannot adjust interface settings using IDM in v4.1.
    I was wondering if it was possible to set these things, however, via the service account?
    Can someone share their suggestions, supported or not, on how to do this? Is it just a simple Google for "NIC settings Red Hat Linux 9" or is it more involved?
    Thanks in advance to any who reply,
    Alex Arndt

    What about a situation where you will be connecting the monitoring port of a v4.1 sensor to a passive TAP that is inline on a link with hard-coded interfaces?
    It is my understanding that any device connected to a passive TAP, that is one that has two network ports and two monitoring ports (one for each TX pair), must be configured the same. So, if the two devices at either end of the tapped line are forced to specific speed and duplex settings, so should the NIC cards on the device(s) connected to the monitoring ports of the TAP.
    Given this, can you provide the best practice for a v4.1 sensor? Could you also provide specifics on how to force-set the speed and duplex on the monitoring NIC, not the command and control interface, in such a way that it will survive a reboot?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex Arndt

  • Trouble with clock and date settings

    Hi Folks,
    Every time I start my G5 I get a message telling me to set the clock and date settings. I set them as requested and save them and put the little lock on them, but next time I start the computer the same message appears.
    Would anybody be able to assist please?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eddie

    You might need a new battery. Go to http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and find your exact model - the manual should show you where it's located and which type you need to buy. They're not expensive.

  • Settings don't have MTU settings for Xbox Live

    I've been having problems connecting to Xbox Live. All of my PCs wired and wireless can connect to the internet except for my 2 Xbox 360s one wired and one wireless. Some times it says that there isn't enough MTU or can't connect to the network when I follow their steps to fix it. It just keeps dying on me.
    I was wondering if the Configuration page has MTU settings?

    I don't know which modem/router you are using (guessing it's some model by Actiontek) but read my post about getting connected to Xbox Live with an Actiontek router.  Even if you don't have the same model, you probably will find something useful there.  Also, I said this in the post but in case you don't see it, with these modems/routers, you cannot connect wirelessly, you must connect by ethernet or you will get errors.  The link is below, hope this helps!

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Memory timings and power settings anyone?

    I'm not very good with computers, so I've just played around with the timings on my memory, but have not found one stable setting as of yet.
    The memory is brand new and I've tested it for errors on my brothers computer and there's nothing wrong there.
    Intensive harddrive usage, dvd playing and intense downloading while listening to music are sure ways to crash my system. "..........Not less or equal" is the most common error message, but there are
    many many more.
    Oh, maybe I should point out that overheating's not an issue, cause I've good fans and run my computer without sidepanels.
    I also like to say that I have the first generation of p4 with ht and 533fsb.
    I'm sure there's something I forgot to mention but here below I'll paste the system summary that Sandra gave me.
    Would be forever grateful if someone could help me out with the memory timings and power settings for my board. Setting it to "auto by spd" gives me a very unstable system, so no avail there.
    I'm running the mem at 2.70 and sometimes at 2.65, since these two settings seem to be the ones with least crashes.
    The Memory installed are 4*512mb ,kingston 512 kvr333x64c25 pc2700
    The PSU is a Tagan "TG480-u01" 480w

  • How do I use Migration Assistant to get my Mail and Keychain settings from

    How do I use Migration Assistant to get my Mail and Keychain settings from my Power Mac G5 2.3Ghz? I just purchased a new 2.5 MacBook Pro which will be delivered tomorrow, and I want to to know how to transfer Mail and Keychain?
    Thank You in advance for your reading and replying.
    Kindest Regards,
    Sebastian

    Rather than using Migration Assistant, which can cause trouble with the PPC to Intel change, simply boot the G5 in FireWire target disk mode and manually transfer the following:
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    You might want to look over Kappy's helpful guide for migrating, which covers the full process for a manual migration (including the above files).
    Hope this helps...

  • How to do a Clean Install (Don't preserve users and network settings)

    I'd like to make a clean install of Snow Leopard -- but NOT erasing the whole drive and NOT migrating/preserving my users and network settings.
    I have a bunch of applications and huge data sets (about 40G) on the boot drive that I don't want to go through the trouble of reinstalling or backing up, and that do not install Application Support folders and the like. I'd like to keep them, as well as migrate files like fonts and preferences over manually. Thus I don't want to format in disk utility and install.
    I seem to remember there was the option in Tiger (Leopard maybe?) to Archive and Install Without Preserving anything, such as network settings, users, extensions and preferences. It would leave a completely fresh System, and a Previous System where I could manually migrate over everything I wanted to keep.
    Is this possible in Snow Leopard?
    Thanks.

    Let me clarify.
    Snow Leopard does an Archive and Install, BUT it PRESERVES Users and Settings. The default install "upgrades in place".
    I have been having all sorts of weird crashes and hangs on my Leopard install and i want a fresh, not upgraded install.
    I WANT to keep my old Leopard system so I can manually transfer over fonts, files, and applications.
    I WANT an upgrade that DOES NOT preserve Preferences, Application Settings, extensions, etc. etc. etc.
    But, I do NOT want to have to completely format and install, because that would involve burning approximately 60G of files and applications to DVD-Rs and copying them back.
    Thanks.

    I'm having a little trouble understanding the part about your password having to be reset. Why is that happening??
    Let's start with Firefox's settings:
    (1) You can configure the password manager feature on this tab:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
    There is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature.
    There also is a "Saved Passwords" button to review and remove any passwords you do not want Firefox to keep.
    That tab also has a feature to set a Master Password so that no one can use your saved passwords without knowing the Master Password. You may need to exit Firefox in order for Firefox to ask for that again.
    Related articles:
    * [[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]]
    * [[Use a Master Password to protect stored logins and passwords]]
    (2) Site-specific permissions
    If you want to use the password manager for other sites but NOT a particular site, you can configure that in the Permissions Manager.
    In a new tab, type or paste '''about:permissions''' in the address bar and press Enter.
    After the page loads, use the search box in the upper left corner to narrow down the list to the site you want to configure. Highlight the site on the left side, and on the right side, choose Block under Store Passwords.
    (3) Form autocomplete suggestions
    Separate from passwords, Firefox remembers entries you've made into forms (in most cases) and lists the matching ones below the form field in a drop-down.
    To clear a suggestion, press the down arrow key to highlight it and press the Delete key.
    To turn off this feature, see this article: [[Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms with your information]].
    To review and selectively edit or delete form history entries, you need an add-on. For example, you could try this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/form-history-control/

    I have read the status Registers and find there is an over-temperature state

    It seems that you have selected the correct mode, assuming your jumpers are set as required in the ML605 Hardware User's Guide.  See table 1-27, table 1-33 and the note below it about switch S1.
    I'm not that familiar with the details of this reference design, but it may be that the slave SelectMap circuitry requires a reset or power cycle to actually configure the FPGA.  Have you tried power-cycling to see if the FPGA boots from the flash?
    I'd also suggest that you select the V6 in the JTAG chain view, then go to the debug menu of Impact and select Read Device Status (this is from memory, but it's something like that).  That will not only show the bits of the configuration status register, but also describe what each bit means.  Among other things you can check the state of the FPGA's configuration logic and the Mode pins.

  • Event ID 1085 on DC - Failed to Apply the Group Policy Local Users and Groups Settings

    I have a domain with 2 DCs.  The primary DC is running Server 2012 and is raising Event ID 1085 every 10 minutes and 20 seconds.
    Windows failed to apply the Group Policy Local Users and Groups settings. Group Policy Local Users and Groups settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link.

    Any ideas?

    I enabled tracing on a domain gpo and I still get the error when running gpupdate /force .
    I'm also still getting Event 1085.  Here's the trace file.  I've anonymized the site/domain and the GUIDs.

  • BT turning speed down and latency up ??

    BT turning speed down and latency up ??
    Hi All & Happy new year
    Wanted to see if anyone else has seen the same issues as I have.
    Right 4 ISP's in the last 18 mths.
    1. Zen internet - perfect but expensive, 7mb down speed.
    2. Newcall (resold Tiscali ie TalkTalk) awful, ever degrading service, speed, latency and "locking/freezing" where had to reboot router to reinitialise connection to exchange.
    3. Idnet - perfect, 7mb again, issues disappeared the moment I switched.
    4. BT - same as TalkTalk - same old nightmare, and BT are not helping, denying any issues. (speed down to 3mb, latency v. high, rebooting router 3 to 5 times a day).
    In the above sequence nothing changed in terms of hardware or line. Did testing with faceplate off - 3 different routers - all same results.
    Changed to BT to save money, but it's been a bad move.
    I can only conclude that TalkTalk and BT actually restrict access and speed. If a third party can deliver superior service on all BT kit something is seriously off - it does not seem likely to be accidental.
    Any thoughts guys ?
    (Currently trying to get contract canceled as service not fit for purpose, (click and wait 2 mins, or click and nothing happens, reboot router and it's ok again for a little while, but speed way down).
    How do I get out of the contract and get back to a competent ISP ?
    Any thoughts or contacts gratefully received.
    (Apologies if broke any rules - first post).

    Sorry to hear that your  having issues with your BT Retail services.
    You will either be on the ADSLMax (upto 8mbps) service or if your exchange has been BTw 21cn upgraded you maybe on the ADSL2/2+ (upto 12/20mbps) service depending on your line quality and length.
    However these upto speeds may not be the speeds you will get as ADSL broadband connections are very dependent on the distance from your property to the exchange and the quality of your line. The further away you are from your local exchange the slower your broadband speed will be.
    To enable the community to help you please see the advice below:
    Please see Keith's help guide here: Helping forum members to help you, it will go through some checks that are needed for us to help you.
    A summary of the checks are:
    1a) Is your router/Homehub connected by a BT NTE5 master socket, Adsl Filtered Master Socket or Extension Socket?   Please bear in mind that extension cables and extension sockets can reduce the broadband's performance. If you have an Old LJU master socket then please say.
    1b) Have you tried the Test Socket? - if you have one. - Bear in mind that lots of manual distconnections/turning off the router/HomeHub will cause you more issues as the DLM will either reduce your sync rate, increase your noise margin or put you into a banded profile.
    2) Can you please run a BT speed test (including IP Profile) http://speedtest.btwholesale.com (not beta version)[Best done with a wired, Ethernet, connection] After Quick Test is done you need to click "Further Diagnostics" to get IP Profile.
    3) is there any noise on your line. dial 17070 option2 ,called quite line test, from landline phone. should be silent but slight hum normal on cordless phone.
    4) please post adsl line statistics
    ADSL Line Statistic Help:
     If you have a BT Home Hub like the one below...
     Then:
     1) Go to http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home
     2) click Settings
     3) Click Advanced Settings
     4) Click Broadband
     5) Click Connection or sometimes called ADSL (see picture Below)
    The direct Address is http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9116 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 1.3)
    or http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9118 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 94.1.11)
    You will need to copy and past all the adsl line statistics ( Including HEC, CRC and FEC errors). You may need to click " More Details"
     If you have a HomeHub 4 then the majority of the ADSL Stats shown in the previous Hubs will not be there.
    for HH4 users you can go to hub manager then select troubleshooting then logs and are look for 2 entries together which will show theconnection speed and noise margin for when your HH4 last sycned with the exchange.
    There are more useful links on Keith's website here: If you have an ADSL connection, please select this link
    Don't have a BT Homehub/Voyager?
    • http://192.168.0.1 for a netgear router and look for ADSL adsl statistics with information like noise margin and line attenuation, connection speed
    • http://192.168.2.1 for a belkin router and look for ADSL adsl statistics with information like noise margin and line attenuation, Data Rate

  • Difference between BT Broadband Speed Test and all...

    I have recently moved to BT Broadband from TalkTalk as I was dissatisfied with the speeds that I was getting with my TalkTalk line – they were OK outside of peak time but woeful in peak time.  With TalkTalk, I was on their ‘up to’  8Mbps which, in practice, translated to about 6Mbps for download outside peak times but dropped to below 1 Mbps in peak (around 500Kbps and sometimes even lower!) – these measurements were taken regularly with both the TalkTalk and Think Broadband speed tests which were usually roughly in agreement and I haven’t had to rely on memory as I downloaded the spreadsheet records available to Think Broadband registered users.
    I am now posting this in the hope that somebody can explain the difference between the BT Broadband Speed Checker (Here) and all the others available on the web.
    When you are first connected to BT Broadband they warn you that your speeds will vary over the first ten days while they test your line to ascertain optimum speeds for it.  During that time, I checked it every day early, mid-day and evening (usually around 0630, 1230 & 2000 hrs) with Think Broadband and, yes, it did vary – the first day it started at around 1Mbps for download but rose to 10Mbps by the end of the day. On the second day, it rose to a peak of 17.8Mbps which was unbelievably fast to use (well, to me anyway) but never reached that speed again as over the rest of the ‘test period’, the download speed dropped and dropped to the point where I am now outside of the BT test period and consistently seeing only 2 to 2.5Mbps over a 24 hour period.
    I emphasise that those speeds were all recorded using Think Broadband but I am now doing tests using the BT checker mentioned above and the speeds which BT indicate for downloads are consistently in the 14 to 18 Mbps range.  If I do the BT and TB test in quick succession, they generally show the BT calculated speed to be better than that of TB by a factor of around 7 (ie.  TB at 2 Mbps whilst BT show 14Mbps).  Now either they are measuring different things (or the sams things differently) or one of them is lying – all I know is that my general browsing experience is slower outside of peak times and I can tell by the time it takes to load pages.
    I might have misunderstood something in these tests but I am now beginning to regret that I fell I for the BT sales pitch which promised me ‘up to’ 20 Mbps but ‘more likely’ 17 Mbps.   I have tried to discuss thisl with BT Broadband technical support but they were no use whatsoever – indeed, I got the impression that he was reading from a script and as it didn’t cover my issue, I was wasting my time – it would also have helped for English to be his first language!
    According to the BT test, I am well within their ‘minimum guaranteed access speed’ (Here).  for my area (about 4Mbps) and therefore cannot do anything about it.  BUT that is only when measured using the BT speed tester – with any other, I am well below.  I am beginning to feel very conned and might even start looking to withdraw from BT if I cannot get this settled.
    Can anybody help.  I will happily post detailed records of my various tests or router stats if they will help.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Help setting MTU settings so I can connect set up Xbox Live..

    Ok, so I'm trying to set up my Xbox to my wireless internet via a wireless adaptor. I've been working on configuring the network, and after many different problems I got to the error message that said that I needed to change the MTU settings of my router. Well my router is the AirPort Extreme, and all the posts I've looked at thus far say that it's impossible to change the MTU settings of the router. How can I connect my xbox to the internet then? I can't hardline it right into the router because it's in a different room.....
    Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to the discussions!
    Sorry, that this is not going to help your immediate problem, but none of the Apple AirPort routers have an adjustment or setting for MTU, therefore packets are sent through the Airports "as is". In other words, the packet size is not changed.
    I'm afraid that your only real option would be to change the MTU setting on each computer or device on the network.
    Since you can't run an ethernet cable to the Xbox, (which would be the best and fastest way to connect), you might want to consider using a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home. I've found this type of connection be faster and far more reliable than wireless, but of course your mileage may vary.

  • Speeding up and skipping

    Hey, when I had the old version of iTunes, 6.05, I was able to play my music while playing computer games but ever since I've installed the new 7.0 version i find that I am no longer able to play my game and iTunes at the same time w/out the music I'm playing on iTunes speeding up and skipping. And I know what your thinking but I've already chacked my CPU percentage at the time and it was fluxuation between 5 and 6 percent usage so that couldn't be it. Any ideas?

    Ok, so I've tried a couple changes:
    A) Re-install sound card drivers
    (manual un-install of all sound card drivers and software, clean registry of all "creative" keys and clean re-install) - I'm running a Creative Audigy 2 OEM card, BTW.
    B) Decrease Hardware Acceleration
    C) Try "safe mode" for quicktime audio output
    D) Tried different sample rates and bit-depth (8,16,24) and variations of the settings
    E) Made sure that EQ and Sound Enhancer are disabled.
    F) I remember having similar issues with creative sound cards years and years ago on the first VIA athlon chipset motherboards - the issue was with PCI bus latency and VIA eventually fixed it, but on some motherboards there was a latency timer that could be changed. So I checked my motherboard (Gigabyte K8N Ultra SLI) and there is a latency timer - tried switching from 32ms to 128 and vice versa, restarting computer and trying variations of step B), C) and D), and E) and the problem is still there!!!! ARGH!
    Once again, this problem is isolated to iTunes - no other audio applications on my PC suffer the same problem - and the issues with iTunes started only after upgrading to iTunes 7.0
    Methinks Apple has some buggy directsound support problems with the latest version of Quicktime/iTunes.
