Uc320 should be cutting edge...

It would be really great is someone would come out with a "Small Business" phone system at an affordable price for small business.
Small business seems to be left in the dust alot of times, due to their size.  They are expected to use older technologies, older telco thought processes, and phone systems with older thinking.
My suggestion for the Cisco Marketing and Sales team is to get in a room with some real "Small Business" people, "Small Business Technologists" and "Creative Thinkers" and design a phone system that is amazing.
A phone system that does everything you could imagine.  Can you even imagine what would happen to the small business phone system market.  If Cisco, or some other vendor, would come out with a truely revolutionary low cost phone system that does everything, does it well, and is forward thinking in it's approach.   Imagine everyone using the Cisco name as a benchmark in it's thinking.  The small business industry could begin thinking about Cisco as the iPhone, iPad and other Apple products.
With the uc320w, it is clearly a follower product.  It really does not do anything special.  What if it did.  What if it could do follow me, email integration with exchange, What if it could...   Be the leader in small business communications.  To do what no other company does for small business.  To be so entrenched in the media that people are calling us and asking us to sell them the Cisco Small Business Solutions.
What if...

Interesting thread, I'm surprised there wasn't more discussion on this.  I bought the UC320 for a branch office but unfortunately without the abilitity to have a remote phone and/or inter office connectivity it doesn't fit the bill.  If it could dial other ITSP numbers that would have been a workaround.
Some 17 months later from this this thread and little in terms of new features that people have been crying out for have been added which is a great shame because I think Scott makes a brilliant point.  I can certainly understand Cisco or other manufacturers worrying that it will take sales away from their larger systems but I would have thought that this issue could very easily be dealt with by limiting the number of phones/users that can be added to the system.
Originally, given that the unit was not upto the job we needed it for, I intended to pop the UC320 in a cupboard and bring it back into use in the future if the features that are discussed a lot in this forum are ever brought into being.  However, I've found a use for it and one where I think inadvertently, the UC320 fits really well - that is; at home.  As a home phone system it really does fit the bill as if this is what the designers of the system were really thinking about when they did the original spec and if it's self installed it fits nicely in terms of price.  I may have a little advantage here in that my home already had structured cabling but surely that's not the end of the world for a home user/home office.
Having said that, I would still like to see the ability to add a remote phone, ideally as a softphone to run on smartphones as it would be handy when I travel abroad to keep in touch with home without a cost implication.  I currently use a softphone app on my iphone to dial in which is instant and free but if I'm wanted from home, they either have to call me with cost or send a text asking me to call them.
It would be very interesting to see a published roadmap from Cisco for this product with clear distinctions between what "wil" be introduced and what is "under discussion" for possible introduction.  Any chance of that happening?

Paul.

  • How many frames should I cut out each second to get a old film look?

    Hi,
What is the general rule of thumb (if their is one) of how many frames should be cut every second to achieve a choppy old film look? Or maybe it's not every second? What do you guys do?

you will get a more realistic look if you chop out frames manually
dump the playhead arbitrarily on the time line insert a cut nudge the playhead either i or 2 frames on and cut again discard the frames and either leave the black or butt the clips up for a "skip".
this really doesn't take long to do and is better than a predetermined sequence of chops made by a filter.
CGM do a free filter for aged film to add the hairs, navel lint, boogers etc . .

  • How To control the cutting edge of a wide report

    Hi All;
I have a wide report with 3 panels horizontal per page, i.e. i have 3 physical pages
    for each logical page.
Is there a way to control the cutting edge between page 1&2 and between page 2&3 so that it comes at a specified position to avoid data cutting ?
    Regards

In general, you can just execute the transaction and then at the selection screen go:
    System->Status
It will show the program name and you can just double click on it to see the source code.

  • What it mean to be cutting edge?

Have been an Arch Fan for long long time. However, I didn't use Arch as long as have in love with it. the reason why is....
It is too cutting edge. And because of this fact. I think I am about to leaven Arch once again soon....
It is heart broken statement. but it seems very likely to happen. but why....?
It is because of GNOME 3.0. as far as it goes. GNOME SHELL is a super annoying interface. You know with that zoom in and out and in and out effect. and that poorly designed clock at the dead center, which you can't do anything about it. Not to mention that add/ delete Desktop feature. Wow you can add up to 1073 desktop. OK? what are you going to do with all this? little good option makes a huge deal. Most people wouldn't agree with me at this point. because it looks "impressive" but I think eventually they will agree with me. if they really care about work flow, and actually reasonable graphic design (by not mean about "cool" eye candy. but layout, and transition)
I know what the GNOME team is doing can't control by Arch, but by it very arch philosophy. they will eventually use GNOME 3.0 and kick out Gnome 2.30. Just like they did with KDE when KDE 4 come out. They drop KDE 3.5 way before KDE 4 is actually usable. So my question is is really Cutting the edge that important to Arch. perhaps what is really mean be to cutting edge? Is it just because the number is higher or is it the really edge cut break through of a software that actually count. In the case GNOME. GNOME 2.30 is totally a difference interface with GNOME 3.0. They are simply not the same thing. Well, they developed by the same team. But it doesn't seem GNOME3 is more advance then GNOME 2.x. In fact, In a way. GNOME 2.x is more advance than GNOME3.0. (you don't have to agree with me) So if some "release" is more or less is just like a Beta. Why so Arch actually use it as primary package? After all it is ok be to there, but why it has to kick out the old one?
Arch is so wise, to come out with it's great philosophy, but after that, people just following it blindly. I am totally no problem with Arch Linux, except be it being too cutting edge. And just all these latest package even when they are known have problems. Of course, it only happen once for a while, but sometime, it happen to that one thing people really love to have in their box.
In conclusion, the question is simple. Is the cutting edge philosophy it out important anything, like the general quality of the distro. Even so. as I mention above, than what is it actual meaning of cutting edge? Just some personal option about Arch Linux. and Just tell some problem I have encounter in Arch. I know I know, there are like million way to go around things. which is good thing about the Linux world, but that is not points. and I know some of the point I am making seems a bit too early. But problems happen once, and might happen again.
Thanks all the Develop and users' support on Arch Linux.

ioky wrote:"What it mean to be cutting edge?" Is it the "latest" and "stable" release is cutting edge. or the one who is most advanced as cutting edge? or it means something else. I mean things can be stable but not useful. and thing can be not stable, but the developer just call it finally release. Cutting Edge is great, we all love Cutting edge, But how Arch Linux actually define the Cutting Edge. and how Arch user think what Cutting Edge mean? It is great that it is follow a good set of philosophy, but I think sometime blindly following a good set of philosophy can also be very irrational.
It's not so much "blindly following a good set of philosophy" as it is pragmatic, it's usually a lot more work to maintain a legacy branch than following the current upstream "stable" release.  You can't just let the software packages sit there, eventually they will have to be rebuilt to be compatible with new system libraries that have to be updated for use in other programs, eventually the programs won't compile without patching the source; also non-core GNOME applications that you might want to use may only work with newer GNOME libraries unless you backport APIs / features into the old libraries.  And bugs will never be fixed unless the maintainers do it.  That's a lot of work.  I mean, a project with a lot of manpower like Ubuntu or Debian might try and do something like this, but there's not enough manpower amongst the arch devs and TUs, nor I suspect enough desire, to do this sort of thing.
So Arch keeps it simple and just ships the newest upstream "Stable Release" as long as there aren't any big obvious problems with the packages.  Side benefit: the developers don't have to decide which version of the software is "most advanced"; which is often entirely a matter of opinion.  (KDE 3.5.x still has some features lacking in the KDE 4.x.x series ... but there are a lot of new features in KDE 4.x.x that were never present in 3.5.x ... so which series is more "advanced"?  <- not so easy question to answer)
The really elegant thing about the Arch philosophy is that it emphasizes pragmatism, therefore following the philosophy is pragmatic.

  • B8550 printing bigger then should and cutting things off

My B8550 prints big when I use 8.5x11 borderless paper. I've solved that problem by printing at 98% from photoshop. Now all of a sudden it is cutting off the left edge, it's not printing centered. I've done alignments, but it doesn't seem to help. Anyone else have this problem or know a solution?

left edge when looked at in landscape. It's actually cutting off the top (in portrait view).

  • Should I go Edge?

    Hello everyone,
I'm in a pickle and not sure if I should go EDGE or not. I am up for renewal and Verizon can give me $200 for my old iPhone 4s (basically a free upgrade to the 6). What I've always done in the past was when the new iphone came out the following year, I would sell my current iphone for as much as I could used on ebay, then pay for the new iPhone for full retail. Normally it came out to be $200 out of pocket anyway. So I'm not sure which is the better way to go.
here is a great link to the breakdown on edge vs regular plans for anyone interested.

    namit wrote:
I would stay away from edge.... here's why.
Basically you pay the retail price of the phone for 20 months.. In my case I was paying 750/20 = $38 additional per month and getting just a $15 discount to be on Edge.
Moral of the story - Stay away from Edge!
Sorry Edge discounts are either $10 or $25 there isn't a $15 discount. I would say that if only getting $10 discount stay on contract unless one really wants to upgrade sooner than 24 months. If you are getting the $25 discount Edge is better.
Example take the new iPhone 6 for $650.
Contract. $200 cost, plus $30 upgrade fee plus sales tax $22( in my area )total $252
    Edge. $650 plus tax =$713 - $500 Edge discount( $25 X 20 months )=$213
    Also line taxes/fees are $1.75 less( in my area ) $1.75 X 20=$35 $213-$35=$178.
So on Edge I'd be paying less and even if I wait until it's 100% paid off before upgrading that's 4 months sooner than a contract. But I could upgrade A LOT sooner.
Moral of the story - It depends. So quit hatin

  • The Cutting Edge of iPhone - Literally

I got my iPhone 3 days ago. Last night I cut my finger while trying to take the iPhone out of my jean pocket. The rear side of the ear phone socket (on top) was what dug a little flesh out of my finger. Im wondering if this is a defective piece or have other people had the same problem.
I love my iPhone, but now Im scared to take it out of my pocket

I will take my phone to the store and get it checked out. I have some pictures my friend took after that http://cuttingedgeiphone.blogspot.com/. Take a look at the edge on the third picture, that is what I am not sure about.
I guess worst case I have to get a skin for the phone (which I don't like)

  • Talking about cutting edge....

KDE 3.3.1 is seeping in after the pacman -Suy command, wheras it has not even been anounced on the KDE homepage! Arch is like what gentoo used to be... cutting very sharp edge!
    Kudos to you speedy devils!
Now, what about openoffice 1.1.3? ;-) hint nudge hint..

it is THE release and no cvs version
package maintainers get access about a week before the release is announced on the kde website, so that the packaging and synching of the mirrors is finished in this week and anyone can get the new release when announced
archlinux package maintainers are simply more efficient then maintainers on other distros ;-)

  • How should I cut out people on bicycles with a background of a forest?

    Dear Everyone,
I have an image of three people on bicycles in a forest - I need to cut the people/bicycles out of the background for use in a photo collage. Since the nooks and crannies in and around the bicycle are so small, I am not sure that even the pen tool is the best method to use. What do you suggest?
    Thanks so much!!
    Chava Drummond

Could you post a lores-version and maybe a fullres-detail (with the camera icon)?
Clipping intricate stuff out of a richly structured background (as wood probably is) is usually a difficult task, but seeing the image might give a better idea of how bad the situation is.

  • Cutting Edge of Video in Imovie

    Hello Everyone,
When recording someone dancing on white screen, with my sony HD camera, the background looked completely white and clear of any lights.
However, after putting the footage into iMovie (which was a tiny bit of a struggle!), there is suddenly a light stand in shot...and the image is wider.
So, I need to cut about a cm of the video now, to get rid of the extras!
Does anyone know how this is achievable in iMovie?
    Thanks,

  • Should Creative Cut Their Loss

It's become quite clear that the Micro is a complete disaster. I'm awaiting my 4th one and when it arri'ves it'll be going straight onto eBay. It seems to me that they're absolutely shockingly flawed. My last one lasted 2 weeks before developing a boot up fault!
Taking this into account, should Creative admit that they've developed a substandard piece of crap and stop selling it's

If you are on a 4th replacement, then I'd definitely advise you make that clear to the advisor you were speaking to, to make sure your complaint is logged and to see what they can do for you.
This thread is not suitable for this forum, I don't see anything constructi've coming from this at all.

  • Should I cut the power to my TC when I close down my iMac?

    Hi,
Sorry to be asking such a dumb question on my first visit here.
My new Time Capsule and iMac seem to be working perfectly - I'm connected to the internet via a Virgin cable.
I'd just like to know if I'm going to experience any problems with reconnecting to the net if I disconnect the Time Capsule plug from the mains supply overnight?
I'm 'old school' when it comes to switching things off overnight and I'm also a complete novice when it comes to Apple stuff.
I did search the Forums before asking this question but couldn't seem to find a n answer. I also had a good look through the 'instructions' but, again, didn't see what I was looking for.
Perhaps I'm too stupid to own a computer - but any advice on the above would be appreciated.
    Thanks for reading this far,
    TonyM

    Welcome to the discussions, tonym6!
Apple designed the TC to be powered up 24/7...that's why there is not an "off" switch on the device. Electronic components tend to last longer when they left on than when subjected to a constant on/off cycle.
The reason for this is that a rush of current runs through a device when it is powered on from an off state. There is actually more stress placed on the electronic components when you power it on repeatedly than there is if you simply leave the device on all the time.
You may get some varying opinions about this of course. If you are going to be away for a period of 3-4 days or on vacation, it might make sense to power off the Time Capsule during those times as a compromise if you don't want to leave it on all the time. It does consume a small amount of power, so I understand the need to save where possible.
Speaking of your iMac, the same thing applies. It will go into "sleep" mode after a period of non use, which keeps a trickle of power available to the device.

  • Cutting edge! related question

Hi all ! I have some questions about gnome..
    I installed Gnome 2.14 & kernel 2.16 in testing...
    1) after installing gnome 2.14... do i need to stay with testing in pacman.conf... There a way to control that only gnome 2.14 related package from testing are installed... for example, i dont want that a "foo" package no related to gnome will install from testing.
Note.. i dont want all warning about newer version when "pacman -Syu"
    2) there is a way to control witch volume is mounted on desktop !
Explanation : I want my dvd, cd, firewire, usb on desktop.. but i dont want my windows partition mounted by default on desk... (nut i want them in "Computer")
It is related to Dbus, hal or gnome volume manager ???
    where i configure this ?
    3) there is a way to start automatically XGL with gnome when user logon with gdm

1.Best to stick with testing, IMO. Always review the package upgrade list produced by pacman -Syu before proceeding. If you don't want the testing version of package foo, cancel the upgrade, and start again with
    pacman -Syu --ignore foo
    2/3. I don't use them - I'm sure someone else does though.

  • Steve jobs have you seen Logitech Revue google tv for only 99 bucks ya'll are supposed to be the cutting edge from the iphone 1 to now the 4 i have owned them all i currently own the ipad 1 and two and i love your products but i must say  catch up

Here it is in question form
How can logitec and google sell something so affordable That is not so futuristic ? From the first to the fourth the Iphone has been my companion
In many so ways . Currently I own the Ipad 1 and 2   Let me tell you now the ipad 2 camera *****  compare it to the iphone 4
Steve Jobs thank you for your vision but my question still stands . 99 bucks even if it is crap i.ll roll the dice your turn

If it does the job for you and you are happy with it then that's all that matters. I assume you are unaware that you are one of a very small minority as google Tv actually had negative sales last quarter, yes that's right more people returned them for their money back than were sold.
    Did you have a question.
