UC500 and SPA525 2G

I have new setup with UC540 with 7 SPA 525 2G phones. 4 out of 7 phones register fine and work.
3 don´t register. Phone display just gives "unregistered" the phones seem all identical.
Has anyone had intermittent issues like this with the SPA 525 2G ?

Hi Kristjan,
Make sure the MAC you put in is right on the entries in the system.
Also make sure they are listed as SPA-525G2 in either CLI or through CCA.
Both of those will also produce those errors.
Cheers,
David.

  • Uc500 and cyberdata paging gateway

I am setting up a Cyberdata sip endpoint for paging. I have successfully installed the cyberdata sip intercom on other systems (uc540) and they work well. I am not having much success with the amp. I have tried many configurations in both the uc540 cli and the cyberdata sip paging gateway.. I am including the latest config and the latest debugs.
Cyberdata was a help in the beginning but they are lost as well. When I dial the extension I get a fast busy. No matter how I configure it I get a fast busy when I dial the extension. The unit does show that it is registered with the sip server. It could be an acl issue, but I don’t want to change the acl’s until I know for sure.

this is a paging gateway for loudspeakers. The intercoms that I have configured are working fine. if you like to see the settings I used let me know. When someone presses the call button I have it ringing to a call blast group, when they answer they get a two way conversation and the when they press a button (5) the door opens. I used a vlan1 address on the intercom, but in the settings I used in cli I used the vlan100 address of the sip server. It does show "registered with sip server" thanks

Also is worth mentioning that for me the intercom itself would not show up as registered through its web interface.

The calls to the cyberdata amp are trying to go out to our sip provider, and of course the call fails with a fast busy. how do I keep the call inside and get it to the amp.Is it a dial peer issue ?

  • UC500 and Dynamic Routing... why not?

First off, I know that the UC500 doesn't support any dynamic routing of any kind.  I'm really just here to vent.  My biggest problem with this is that the entire UC line supports DMVPN, which works great, except it is somewhat useless without any routing protocol support.  There is simply no reason the actual box can't support dynamic routing, in fact it actually looks like it supports RIP in a limited capacity (unoffically of course).  I can receive RIP routes no problem, I just can't advertise any RIP routes.
I don't see why Cisco can't at least offer a upgrade license to enable dynamic routing.
Can someone from Cisco chime in on why this is the case?  I am going to end up purchasing additional Cisco 881 routers for all my UC500 deployments simply for DMVPN and dyanmic routing.  I would rather just pay for a license to enable RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, or BGP routing to be enabled on the U540...

To be honest I think the real reason they removed this from Uc5xx was they were scared some of their mid-level customers would consider ditching the more expensive enterprise kit and throwing these boxes in at their smaller site offices.
Dynamic routing is pretty useful when you get to around 10 sites, especially if your're routing voice, data and voicemail VLAN IPs through a full mesh.   We've thrown in ISRs or 800 series to do this in a few cases, but we do still have static routes punched in to a few UC520s in a lot of locations.

  • SR520 WLAN and QOS

    Hello all,
I wanted to know if the WLAN on a SR520 supports QOS.
We are trying to setup a teleworker site and want to stick with the 500 family of devices.  The requirement of the teleworker site is to have hard wired PCs connecting to the SR520 and a wireless phone at the teleworker site with good voice quality (QOS).
For Example, take the UC500 (not a typo UC500) and its built-in WLAN (assuming you order it this way).  According to the documentation the WLAN will work with the Cisco 7921 (for example), but does not support QOS over that WLAN antenea, you must get a WAP or WLC and WAP combination to support QOS over WLAN.
I would appreciate seeing this in a Cisco official document.
    Thanks, John

The SR520 is WMM certified, but it does not support diversity. For mixed wireless voice and wireless data deployments it should be a good choice. However, you are sayig that the PC's will be wired to the network, while the voice will be wireless. In this case, I think that more important than WLAN QoS is WAN QoS. The reason is that with this being a teleworker deployment, the 7921 will be registering to a remote UC500.
With regards to the lack of QoS/WMM support in the UC500, that has changed somehow. We still mandate that you deploy a WAP/WLC when using the 7921. But with the new SPA525 phone (wireless desk phone), CCA will push QoS configuration for the embedded and external access points, depending on the deployment model. Notice that this is possible because there are no roaming or mobile considerations (the SPA525 is a "static" phone).
    Hope this helps,
    Marcos

  • WRVS4400N vs SR520 vs UC500

    Hello,
I am looking to advise a customer on networking 4 offices together. I have used the WRVS4400N for site to site VPNs before, and am quite impressed with the feature set on this router.... so much so, that I can't really find a reason to recommend the SR520 instead. I believe the customer has the money, and would be open to a superior option if we can make a good case for it, so my question is; what can the SR520 do that the WRVS4400N can not? Forget the next day replacement stuff; we could buy a standby WRVS4400N for the difference of upgrading just one to a SR520, so I don't see the value in that.
I was also curious about the routing capabilities of the UC500. Telephony features aside, how does the UC500 series function as a router? I see that the smart designs call for a SR520 to sit between the UC500 and the WAN. I can also understand that if you have a very busy network, that you may want to offload the security and routing functions to a dedicated device from a performance perspective. But lets say we have a small office that is not putting high demands on the network like this, will the UC500 function fine as a VPN endpoint, IPS, Router, and all of the other functions of an SR520, or is the UC500 missing something?
Would also like some figures on maximum throughput on each of these models if possible.
    Thanks all!

The SR520 is part of the SBCS managed by CCA (Smart Business Communications System / Cisco Configuration Assistant).
The UC500 itself has a WAN interface and Firewall and a built in VPN server so if you wanted a voice solution that is customer premis based, the SBCS suite is the Unified Communications solution for you.   The SR520 has FE, ADSL or T1 interface, so it can be placed in front of the UC500 if you wanted to terminate a T1 for example at the host site, but when deploying SIP Trunks for VoIP, the Service Provider usually provides the demarcation router.
The SR520 (FE and ADSL) can also find themselves as teleworker Routers for the UC500, again configurable using the same CCA tool you use on the whole SBCS suite.
If you are considering a hosted managed centrex, then the WRV4400N can work as the customer router, but there again, you may want to consult with the managed SP to see what they provide and what you provide.  The WRVS4400N is not supported in the SBCS suite and you cannot buy SB Pro or Smartnet service on it either.

  • EXTEND WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY OF UC500 USING AP 1130G

    Hello guys,
I have a uc500 which is setup with three ssids, GUEST,DATA,VOICE. My problem is that the wireless signal is very weak in some areas of the office so i decided to extend those ssids using an ap.
Could you please assist me with the configuration settings  on the ap so that i have the same ssids on both uc500 and the ap?
I know that a trunk link should be created between those two devices but i have never worked with an ap so i don't know what configuration it needs to extend those ssids.

Now to test that I actually roam between the two APs or if a wireless device just locks onto the first strongest signal and then stays homed to that AP regardless of changing signal strengths.
That will depend to a large degree on what devices you are talking about.
A Mac computer will usually automatically "switch" wireless access points as it moves from one area to another.
But, devices like the iPhone and iPad usually will not do this. Instead, they tend to hold onto the signal from the original device to which they have connected.....even if you move them closer to another wireless access point.  Nature of the beast with iOS.
If you want the iPhone and iPad to pick up the best signal, you will need to get in the habit of temporarily turning off the WiFi on the device as you move it from one area to another, then turn the WiFi back on and the device will usually pick up the signal from the strongest access point.
Sometimes.....the iOS device will switch access points on its own after a few minutes, and sometimes it won't. So, manually turning WiFi off and then back on is probably the best way to get the iPhone or iPad to connect to the strongest signal.

  • 7916 module no longer recognized after system update.

    Hello,
    I have a UC540 with 6 7945 set and 1 7965 set with a 7916 expansion module.
we decided to update our system software from 7.1 to the new 8.6 firmware i found on the cisco website.
we were having an issue with our call park, and i thought that would fix it.
however, once the update was complete and all the phones came back up, the module is not being recognised by the 7965.
it lights up with the cisco logo and nothing else. Also, the 7965 does not see the module in its status list.
Did the module not get updated and thats why it doesn't see it, or did something else go wrong?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Chris

    1. Make sure the 7916 is still configured in the "type" setting for that ephone.
    2. Make sure the 7916 firmware is installed on the UC500 and set up as a "load".
    3. Check the physical connections.
    4. Reboot the phone.

    OK.
    Try this:
    conf t
    service compress-config
    And see if that helps.
If not, see if you can tftp the running config off the router and TFTP it back to startup-config:
    copy run tftp
    copy tftp start
Then you can try a reload and see if it is cured.
I googled and found a few cases where alot of ACLs or NAT rules could cause MALOC errors (you would see those in your logs) when implemented and could manifest itself in this condition, which could be cured after the next reload, which is why I suggested that.
Of course, dont be remote when you do this and only do it during a maintenance window.

  • SA 520 vs SR 520

    Hi
What is the diference between the family series SA 520  and the family series SR 520?, technically of course.
    thanks you
    Rolando

Here is a list of major differences between the SA500 and SR500 series:
The SA500 series and the SR520-T1 are considered Small Business Pro products, whereas the SR520-ADSL and SR520-FE are considered traditional Cisco products.
The SA500 platform is non-IOS-based, whereas all of the current SR500 models, including the SR520-T1, are IOS-based.
The SR520-ADSL and SR520-FE models are supported by the traditional TAC and SMARTnet service is offered on these models, whereas Small Business Pro services are offered on the SR520-T1 and SA500 series.
SR520-ADSL, SR520-FE, and SR520-T1 models are designed to be CCA configurable, but have features that are not CCA configurable. The SR520-ADSL and SR520-FE models have advanced capabilities that are not available on the UC500 series or SA500 series (but are available on ISR platforms). On the other hand, the SA500 is not fully configurable in CCA yet (even though basic configuration of the SA500 was added to CCA 2.2.1 and later).
The SA500 supports QuickVPN and SSL VPN, whereas the SR500 series supports Easy VPN, AnyConnect SSL VPN technology, and web-based SSL VPN.
The SA500 supports ProtectLink Gateway, and the SR500 series does not support ProtectLink Gateway.
The SR500 (along with the UC500 and ISR platforms) support routable IPsec VPN tunnel interfaces, whereas the SA500 does not support routable IPsec VPN tunnel interfaces. However, site-to-site VPNs are still supported on the SA500.
SSL VPN on the SR520 series (and on ISR platforms) requires a separate SSL VPN license, whereas the SA520 ships with 2 SSL VPN client licenses (upgradeable to 25 SSL VPN licenses through a license upgrade) and the SA540 ships with 50 SSL VPN client licenses.
The SR520-T1 is supported in CCA multisite manager, but the SR520-ADSL, SR520-FE, SA520, and SA540 are not yet supported in the CCA multisite manager.
Whereas the SA500 platform has had known bugs and was unstable at the time of its release, the IOS-based SR520 platform tends to be more stable. There were even some early SA500 customers that were planning on trading in their SA500s for traditional Cisco products because of the bugs found in the SA500 firmware releases at the time of the SA500 release. The bugs on the UC500 platform tend to be in the unified communications components and not in data or security features.

  • CUE change business Hours to quarters

We have a customer that has implemented a UC500, and it works fine.
Only problem is that their normal business hours is from 8.15 in the morning. But when working in CCA, you can only set the business hour to half hours. Is there any way to change this setting?
    Martin Abildgaard

    Martin,
No, you can only configure the schedule based on half hours. I checked this from the CLI as well. It states:
HH:MM        Hours:Minutes (Hours in 24 hour format; Minutes can only be 00 or
                   30) e.g. 17:30
    Hope this helps.

  • Cca cannot log on uc520

Guys, I have a site where cca can not authenticate with a uc520. It states authentication failed and TELNET access was denied. Of course I can manually telnet into the device. Anyone see this before?
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone App

John - I would consider myself an expert in UC500 and CME...  I have been doing this for many years...  This one is weird.  I can telnet into the same device in both CME and CUE side.... using the same credentials.  I am telling you... CCA is wacky!  CUE side is not locked.. I can successfully telnet into it once in CME and there are no active sessions blocking CCA.  This happens even after a restart of the UC520 box.  Interesting enough that I can telnet into it manually... but it does seem like something is blocking CCA.....  But this is not only on one machines..  This happens from any machine that I install CCA on and try..  I have it on a server and my laptop that I use at every site I go to.  Good thing I know CLI well.... because I dont need the wizard but I am trying my hardest to follow Cisco's lead.... by using the CCA...  but little things like this are really making it hard..

  • Welcome message followed by MoH while call is sent to extension / huntgroup

    Hello,
the UC500 and CCA have a nice interface for configuring the automated voice attendant. Unfortunately the I wasn't able to achieve the following:
Whenn a caller calls us at DDI -0 I want the call to be accepted after one ringtone/immediately. If the person is calling within business hours the caller should be greeted by a nice welcome message ("Welcome to Company XYZ your call will be shortly answered"). Then the call should be sent to an extension or hunt-group. While the extension or hung-group rings, the caller should be hearing MoH not the normal ringtone.
If the caller calls outside of business hours I want him/her to go to a mailbox. (I think I know how to do that )
I'm not afraid of using CLI
    regards,
    Fabian

    1. Either use an AA with a different menu for day/night or use night server and call-forward night service to split your calls by time of day.
    2. During the day, use the B-ACD instead of a hunt group. This will allow you to play a welcome message followed by music until an agent answers the call. It will also allow you to see how many callers are waiting on the phone screen.

  • Is BE6000 the answer to all businesses now?

I need a Voice Gateway for small and medium business. Now that the UC500 and BE3k are discontinued, is my answer always BE6k?
    I need a gateway with 8 FXS ports ... BE6000?
I need a gateway for 70 analog ext. and 16 IP Ext. and auto attendant... BE6000?
How I will miss the UC520.

This is not a question. It is a recommendaiton as to how to use this forums and the WWW to find information about how to rip and encode videos for the IPOD.
