UC520 Router and ESW520 Switch I need tagged VLAN ports

                   I am trying to configure the WAN port to two Internet sources, one primary and one backup. I have no problems building two VLAN subinterfaces on the WAN port of the UC520 using CLI. However CCA will not allow me to build a port with two access VLANS on the ESW520. It seems that the only allowed tagged port is Phone + Desktop. Is there any way around this? A secret Port Role? A less restrictive device configuration manager?

I've tried connecting cisco to non cisco devices.Tagged ports simply means allowing different vlan to pass to that port and Untagged is passing only the native vlan.For your case since you want that two VLAN will communicate,port should be tagged.Tagged is simply trunking in terms to cisco.So that the 802.1q frames will pass that port.

  • VLAN with 1700 router and Linksys switch

    I am trying to use a 1700 router to route between to IP subnets on two different VLANs setup on a Linksys switch. I do not have access to the switch so I am working with another tech that handles the switch. I setup two subinterfaces on the FE port of the router. Int Fa0.1 uses IP 1.1.1.1 and VLAN 1 native using 802.1q. Int Fa0.2 uses IP 2.2.2.2 and VLAN 2. I asked the switch tech to setup his switch accordingly. My problem right now is that the router will only ping IPs on the native VLAN. Meaning if I make Fa0.1 VLAN 1 native I can ping devices on 1.1.1.0/24 and if I make Fa0.2 VLAN 2 native then I can ping on 2.2.2.0/24. When I passed this along to the tech he explains something about setting up his ports for tagged or untagged but I don't know who this would apply to the router but he doesn't have a solution either. Is there anythin I can do on the router side to fix this?

  • 3750 as a router and a switch. sub-optimal routing problem

    Objective: To limit the traffic on Vlan8. We are seeing traces from K1 or T1 to 192.168.1.4 like this:
    1- 10.10.10.5
    2- 10.10.20.1
    3- 192.168.1.4
    then
    1- 10.10.10.4
    2- 10.10.30.1
    3- 192.168.1.4
    or
    1- 10.10.10.5
    2- 10.10.200.1
    3- 192.168.1.4
    this causes the packets to travers vlan8 once to get routed by P61B then switched back across to reach the next hop 20.1 or vice versa.
    How can we avoid this behavior?
    Study the attached drawing carefully. Vlan 8 has 4 routers on it and the 3750s have routes to the 4 networks above them. packets are not routed between the 3750's

    Could set up a debug ip icmp on the router 192.168.1.4 and ping it from both T-1 and K-1, I think this problem would be more clear to everyone.
    If not mabybe you could provide the output of "show ip route" on the routes on this issue,at least on the routers/switch 192.168.1.2 , 192.168.1.3 and 10.10.10.4 and 10.10.10.5 and T-1, K-1.
    for routes like 192.168.1.4, 10.10.10.2-5 and 20.20.20.2-3

    If you wan to trunk between them then the answer is yes you can trunk between as long as the router has a newer version of code on it like 12.2

    The router config might not have been captured correctly coz it would not allow you to configure the subinterface with no vlan id after the encapsulation. But you can try this, define the native vlan 1 on the router's subtinterface for subnet 172.16.1.0/24. Also, what address of the router are you pinging from the switch?

    Yes. the linksys switch (SRW2024 24-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch) supports trunking.
    If you want you can visit the link and see that the switch supports vlan, dot1q and trunking.

    Though pictures are worth a 1000 words so I hope someone will post something similar to my question.
    I have 7 - SB 302-08 switches with the most recent firmware. (updated firmware today, thanks to the video, and TG for the CLI)
    All 302's are configured for layer 3.
    This is my first experience with the SMB line of switches.
    I have a main office and several satellite branch offices.
    All locations are connected back with a "Q to Q" circuit on individual ports to a vendor supplied switch at the main office.
    I need to link all branch office 302 switches back to the main office 302 switch and allow traffic amongst them.
    Mainly traffic between each branch office and the main office.
    There maybe a future need to incorporate VoIP on them as well, but that is a back burner issue.
    These locations will have an individual VLAN and 302 switch but need to receive data from the main VLAN and possibly others.
    I have a "core" SB 302 setup at the main office with its own VLAN.
    Each branch switch has its own VLAN.
    I would also like to have a centralized management VLAN for the switches.
    In trying to configure the core 302 I keep losing connectivity and having to reset it.
    On the branch switches I end up getting them to only link to themselves with different IP's and not the core.
    I'm assuming this is caused by my not configuring interconnectivity using ACL.

    Well first you want to make sure you are running latest firmware 1.1.1.8 I do believe
    Next either console into the switch or you can turn on SSH/Telnet under Web gui (Security••àTCP/UDP services and make sure SSH/Telent is enabled)
    Now we configure the switch via Cli
    We need to enter global configuration mode.
    Configure Terminal
    (next add our vlans)
    Vlan database
    Vlan 10
    Vlan 20
    Vlan 30
    Exit
    (you can run show command to see your vlans)
    do show vlan
    (Now configure the port how you would like)
    Interface GE1
    Switchport mode access   (this is making Gigabit port 1 an access port)
    Switchport access vlan 20 (this command is changing access port vlan from 1 to 20)
    (less configure a trunk port)
    Interface GE2
    Switchport mode trunk (this makes port 2 for trunking)
    (Now less add our Vlans)
    Switchport trunk native vlan 1
    Switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10,20,30
    Exit global configuration
    (Use this command to copy your settings to startup)
    Copy running-config startup-config
    (Some screen shots attached)
    I see you have a WRT54G router which i don't think support vlans unless you have 3rd party OS installed.
    So currently is the SG300 swtich operating in layer 2 or layer 3 , guessing this is why you choose to move up to 300 series switch?
    If the switch is not in layer 3 mode but in layer2 when setting it to layer3 the switch will default all pervious settings.
    If the switch is set in layer 3 mode you might have forgot your default route
    (Command setting default route)
    configure terminal
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1  (192.168.1.1 being address of your WRT54G)
    Now you would need to set up ACL's to deny and allow what traffic you wanted to filter on the SG300
    Also reading your post we would need you to call into support center SBSC @ 1-866-606-1866
    This way we could get a better idea of your current configuration and assist with fixing or finding a solution for you.

      First, thanks for pointing out that I'm in the wrong section of the forums.  My bad.  I'll pay closer attention next time.
      Second, I tried your suggestion but it failed to work.  I cleared the configs of the router so I could start with a clean slate and followed your commands to the letter.  The host can't seem to get an IP assigned and the here's what I get with a Show IP DHCP Pool:
    Router_1#show ip dhcp pool
    Pool vlan1 :
     Utilization mark (high/low)    : 100 / 0
     Subnet size (first/next)       : 0 / 0
     Total addresses                : 254
     Leased addresses               : 0
     Pending event                  : none

    I need to configure remote span between Extreme Networks X460-24p and Cisco Cataylst 2960X switches. 2 IP phones are connected to ports 15 and 17 on Extreme switch, and should be monitored to port 1/0/47 on Cisco switch. Extreme and Cisco switches are interconnected with trunk (port 28 on Extreme with port 1/0/51 on Cisco).
    I configured the following:
    On Extreme switch:
    configure mirror mode enhanced
    enable mirroring to port 28 remote-tag 1000
    configure mirroring add port 17 ingress-and-egress
    configure mirroring add port 15 ingress-and-egress
    On Cisco switch:
    vlan 1000
     name RemoteSPAN
     remote-span
    monitor session 1 destination interface Gi1/0/47
    monitor session 1 source remote vlan 1000
    But this is not working :(
    Does enyone have experience with this? I really need help to make this work.

    Basically dot1x auth is availlable on Catalyst Switches. however if I want to check to
    PortBased Multi-Auth , MAC address Auth and any certification Auth with this feature,
    Is it possible to integrate into Cisco Router such as Cisco 891F ?
    In my opinion Cisco891F is also available to use basic IEEE802.1x but if it compares with Catalyst switches such as Cat3560X
    I think there might be any unsupported feature on Cisco 891F.

    Many time in interviews asked comaprison between cisco  routers and switches that i was answerless bcoz i dont have much knowledge about that.Can anyone provide me the compariosin sheet of the same.how are the cisco devices differ with each other how much Bandwidth each routres support and Etc...
    Ummmm ... The most common question I get is "what is the difference between a router and a switch".
    However, if you get a question like this, then my impression to this line of questioning are:
    1.  The candidate they are looking for has in-depth knowledge of routers and switches.  And I mean IN-DEPTH!;
    2.  They are not looking for a candidate.  They just want to stroke their ego.  There is not alot of people who can give you the "names and numbers" of routers and switches at a snap of a finger.  And if you do happen to know the answer, then and there, then expect a tougher follow-up question.

    Hi to all, this is my problem/scenario:
    Belkin N+ modem/router and a HD connected (FAT32) via USB port.
    A PowerMAC G5 connected to the router via N300 dongle (airport disabled).
    A MACmini C2D connected to the router via N300 dongle (airport disabled).
    Ok, the HD is perfectly browsable when I'm on the G5, but on the mini there is no sign of the HD.
    The belkin icon in the upper bar on G5 is blue, grayed out on mini (but internet connection is fine).
    Same OS level (I mean, last available patching 10.5.8 PPC/Intel), same kind of dongle (a Belkin N300),
    same installation CD from belkin.
    Some suggestions ?

    Perhaps keep the G5 turned off while you fix the Mini.

    What type network is yu router set up for? The 4G iPod can only connect and see 2.4 GHZ networl like B, G and the 2,4 GHz N. There is also a 5 GHz N but the iPod will not even seethat network.

  • Can I use an ethernet switch to add a "pogoplug" device to my Airport express router? Or do I need a different router?

    I have an airport express router and decided to get a "pogoplug device" (cloud service to store files etc.). It requires to be connected to router per ethernet but I realized too late there is only one ethernet connection in the router. A friend suggested I get an ethernet switch but it still doesn't work...Do I need a new router?

    Then, unfortunately, no as the single Ethernet port of the AX needs to be connected to the Ethernet port of your Broadband modem.
    One option is to get another AX, and then, configure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. It would connect to the first AX by wireless, and then, you can connect the PogoPlug to it.

    I am setting up my business network between multiple computers. I need gigabit speeds for large file transfers (video, audio, images), but I also need internet connectivity. I was planning on using a simple 10/100 4 port broadband router and a Netgear Prosafe 24 port 10/100/1000 gigabit switch. If I connect the router to the switch, will my network's performance decrease since the router is responsible for assigning ip addresses, or will the switch's gigabit speeds still work within my network (since switches operate using MAC addresses)? Can anyone help me on this one? Thank you!

    If the devices plugged into the gig-switch have gigabit ethernet ports, then you will see a speed advantage over 100mbps performance. I have a similar setup, with a 4-port linksys router that is 10/100 and an 8-port linksys gig-switch connected to it. I connect my printer and VOIP adapter directly to the router, since they aren't gig anyway, and connect my other devices to the gigabit switch.
