UC560 Freeze on file download HIgh CPU

Hi all,
i have custormer where i installed UC560, recently ISP upgraded internet connection speed  to cca 100Mbps.
when user downloads files or runs speedtest. UC freezes. even phones becomes inresponsive. configuration have 20 phones.
I am avare that 100Mbps is maby too m uch for UC but why freeze and high cpu utilization and how to prevent it.
I apriciate any sugdestions.
BR,
Goran

Hi Goran,
That's good info to know.  I was told by Cisco support I might need another firewall and set it up with the UC the way you described.  I'm not totally sure what to get.  I want something that's easy to manage.  I'm not a whiz with all this networking stuff, but I typically can figure things out.
I can't say we've had the issue at other locations.  In fact I've tried running speed tests at the other locations, where they have 50 mbps connections, and the UC seems to handle it a lot better.  The CPU spikes pretty good, but it doesn't quite max out at 100%.  It'll hit 95% for a couple seconds then make it's way back down into the 80s.
We currently have a couple static public IP addresses.  I'm not sure what you mean by what I have on ISP side (router or switch).  We have our incoming (fiber) connection plugged into the WAN interface on the UC.  I have two Cisco switches.  Each of them are plugged into the Expansion slots on the UC.
What kind of firewall did your customers go with?  I have been looking different devices and I'm a little overwhelmed by it all.  One options I found I liked was pfsense.  I started tinkering around with it and set it up at my house.  It seems pretty nice.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jason

  • Trace file analysis: High cpu timings for FETCH

    Hi!
I am doing a 10046 trace file analysis for a performance problem we see on a customer site, but we can't reproduce the problem on our local reference test system.
Basically, the cpu timings for FETCH calls for a SELECT statement are ten times as high on the customer system. There are no WAIT events in the trace file (for this statement), only a high cpu timing for the FETCHES:
    Customer instance:
    FETCH #19:c=140625,e=140189,p=0,cr=3358,cu=0,mis=0,r=1,dep=1,og=1,tim=1500177409
    Reference system;
    FETCH #4:c=15625,e=7984,p=0,cr=2262,cu=0,mis=0,r=1,dep=1,og=1,tim=5624714062
I see that the number of consistant reads is 50% higher, but I don't see why this result in 10 times the CPU time and about 20 times the elapsed time. This is does not seem to be a general problem with all statements, so the general timings are comparable to our reference system. The problem seems to be this Select statement only which only joins two tables.
I had the idea that a long running transaction that didn't commit would lead to this problem, since Oracle would need to reconstruct blocks from undo, but there are no such transactions on the system.
With no WAIT events emitted, where does the time go?
    Thanks for your help,
    Marcus

You have omitted the predicate section from the execution plan - and [+*there may be important clues*+|http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/2008/12/03/predicate-problems/] in the predicate section.
In your case the problem may +(*for example*+) simply be the way in which the predicates apply to the PLANSCHRITTFOLGEPK index range scan.
Imagine you have 250 index entries per leaf block, and the predicates that apply to the index identify an index range scan that spans 25 entries in one system but 25000 entries (100 leaf blocks) in the other. It is possible that filter predicates against the index eliminate most of the index entries before you go to the table. The CPU used to examine (filter) large numbers of index leaf entries can be significant - and since that index range scan is part of a filter subquery it could many several time - escalating the CPU usage. A check of the access and filter predicates may give you some clue about whether you are seeing that type of problem.

  • Disco App Server high CPU usage, Disco Applet freezes, tuning possible?

    Hi again,
so I am facing again a dramatic performance issue with our Discoverer.
I have a cross-table report with ten page items, one datapoint, a percentage calculation and a total.
After querying the data from the DB, building the report (calculating total and percentages) takes 50 seconds, Disco Applet is freezed, App Server shows high CPU load (one core about 60%, other three cores about 20%). The report fetches 5600 rows, which is quite nothing.
    Disco Version: 10.1.2.54.25 (CPU IV).
Are there any parameters / settings on the application server to improve the performance at this place?
    Thanks in advance,
    Christian

I found the solution for this special problem: the total in the report was the cause. Without it, the report reacts as I expect it.
Nevertheless, other reports (approx. 300.000 rows of data in a crosstab) with four page items also cause this high CPU load on the AS and freeze Disco for some half a minute. Our costumers do complain about this as it always seems that Disco hung up.
Any suggestions on how to tune the AS?
    Regards,
    Christian

  • Desktop Window Manager high CPU utilization

I have several Windows 2012 servers that are showing high CPU utilization (70% or higher) coming from the Desktop Window Manager.  I do not have the Desktop Experience feature installed on these machines.  The interesting thing is that the process
for dwm.exe does not show up as a service that I can stop or restart.  I've read through the various posts about re-registering dmw.exe so that the service shows up again, but nothing has worked.  Since these are application and file servers with
no need for regular desktop use, I don't really need any fancy desktop graphics or performance.  I have the Advanced Performance Options set to 'Background services'.  Can anyone tell me how to stop dwm.exe or at least reduce it's CPU footprint?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,
Based on my research, On Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, DWM is used at all times and cannot be disabled.
For more detailed information, please refer to this article:
Desktop Window Manager is always on:
To troubleshoot the high usage of CPU, I would like to recommend to follow this article to collect and analyse the relevant log files and dump files:

  • High CPU usage when downloading Files

    Hi there,
i noticed somethign strage when I download file off the internet or intranet. As soon as my download speed surpasses 1MB/s the CPU usage increases. To be exact the process kernel_task.
    For example:
    2,5 MB/s -> ~30%
    10 MB/s -> ~60-70%
    10+ MB/s -> ~80%
This is really annoying and I have now clue how to fix this. The Harddrive is a SAMSUNG HM320JI with a Journaled HFS+ partition. No Virus Scanner or anything. Also just reinstalled Snow Leopard yesterday.
Hope someone can give me some useful information how to fix this.

    Hiya,
could it have something to do with the write speed/ cache/ram? On a "slow" disk, or one that is nearly full or one that is partitioned, it will take a great deal more ram and cache to "digest" the faster download and write it onto disk. I tend to do downloads to a separate drive. Have you got one? and can you repeat the high CPU usage when downloading / saving to the external drive? I note your drive might have 5,400 rpm, with "just" 8mB cache and 320 GB (quite a few SATA's have 7,200 rpm and 32 mB cache).
NB: If anything, I found SL more efficient, especially on my 4 year old Macbook, which is running much faster and has got more responsive after installation of (full version of) SL.

  • High CPU usage when editing large MXML files

I am using Flash Builder 4.5 Plug-in on OSX. When I have a large MXML file open, Eclipse will consume 100% of the CPU as long as that file is open, even if I am not doing anything. If I close that editor the CPU usage goes back down. I've seen this in Flash Builder standalone as well as the plugin. Is there a workaround to stop this CPU usage problem?
    Thanks

  • Firefox freezes trying to download or save files, Import/Export bookmarks, clicking (Tools) Options (was: Fire Fox crashes in Windows safe mode and in Firefox Safe mode)

    Hi
    XP sp3 4gb ram
    Firefox 6.0.2
Firefox crashes every time I do any of the following. Then I have to force quit Fire fox.
If i click a download link on a web page, Firefox freezes the instant I click the link
...but Firefox does not freeze if I click a web link on a web page or page navigation link.
If i go to the Menu bar > Tools > Options, Firefox freezes the instant I select Options from the Tools menu.
...but Firefox does not freeze if select any other item from the Tools menu.
If I go to the Menu bar > File, Firefox instantly freezes the instant I select either "Save Page as..." or "Open file..."
...but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other option from the File menu such as: New Tab, New Window, Send Link, page Setup, Print, Exit etc
If I go the Menu Bar > Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup, Firefox instantly freezes the second I select "Import" or "Export"
... but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other command in the Bookmarks sub menus, nor does it freeze if I back out of the menu entirely.
Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
...so I have isolated the problem to a limited number of commands in Firefox that cause Firefox to freeze... described above. Everything else in Firefox works fine.
HERE IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT CAUSES THE FREEZING:
    • Clicking a download link on a webpage
    • Going to the Menu Bar > File and selecting "save as" or "Open File"
    • Going to the Menu bar > Tools and selecting Options.
    • Going to Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup and selecting either "Import" or "Export"
    • Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
Everything else in Firefox works fine. I went through every menu command and checked for freezes. Only the commands I mentioned above cause the freezing.
I tried the following to try to fix it:
    • Reset my modem and router (Problem still exists)
    • Uninstalled FF. Deleted folders, profiles (Downloads.sqlite), Registry entries. Reinstalled. (Problem still exists)
    • Restarted FF in Firefox safe mode. (Problem still exists)
    • Restarted in Windows Safe mode and then started FF in Firefox safe mode (Problem still exists)
    • Disabled Window firewall. Disabled ZoneAlarm firewall, Shutdown ZoneAlarm firewall. Set Internel Options to default settings. (Problem still exists)
    • I reset the config option: browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone to false
    What does work?
    • Firefox does not crash when I click a link an go a website, navigate a page, use a menu item command.
    • Firefox works fine on my other computer.
    • Internet Explorer works fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
    • My other applications work fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
I want to add that, I just overcame the XP Recovery Virus by following a post that suggested running the following software to fix the virus. Everything seems back to normal except Firefox.
The software I ran to fix the problem are listed below:
    • malwarebytes
    • superantispyware
    • ccleaner
    • combofix.
    • smart defrag
    • then load a good anti-virus. (I ran Zone Alarm virus scan)

    Hi.
This is about a question you posted to the Firefox Support forum three months ago (I'm sorry you never got an answer).
Did you ever fix the problem where Firefox freezes or hangs, when clicking a download link or using (File menu) "save as" or "open file"? Or when going to the Firefox (Tools) menu and clicking Options ? Or trying to Import or Export bookmarks?
I found this thread searching for a solution for someone on MozillaZine's support forum who's having a similar issue. See this thread: (maybe something he's tried that didn't work for him will work for you?)

  • Possible simple fix for Yosemite freeze/high CPU etc

Short version:  Update tom latest version of Dropbox client for OSX
    Description:
    Running OS X 10.10 on 2011 MBP w/ 840 EVO SSD
Everything was running great for a week or so, then started experiencing high CPU usage, and ultimately the system would stop responding.  Lot's of strange error messages in syslog brought me to the forums, but no answers.
Initially, I thought the trouble was caused by 3rd party kext's loading since I had disabled signing and forcibly enable trim.  In the end, I disabled trim and reset the driver signing to defaults and followed basic troubleshooting posted elsewhere here to regain control:
    Boot safe mode
    SMC reset
    PRAM reset
After this, I enabled trim, etc but ran into trouble yet again.  So I started looking at apps one at a time.  I downloaded and installed the latest Dropbox client, and everything has been great since.  I believe (in my case) the older version of Dropbox that had not been updated since Mavericks seemed to be the culprit.  I wrongly assumed that this couldn't happen due to Sandboxing, but I'm not a software engineer.
    Hope this helps.
    BKå

Unfortunately, this did NOT work for me. I am still stuck and have done everything. I lost my original user name and now have my long email address as my user ID... bummer. Also, I had a very simple password that I lost, too, because I was trying to reset things. Also, a big bummer!!'
This is day 4 for me now and I am still not able to use my credit card!!!

  • High CPU usage when playing flv files with flash

As more and more FLV videos are moving to HD, I'm noticing
high CPU usage and lots of dropped frames when playing FLV video in
web browser with Flash 10. This is true even if the video isn't
full screen. I've tried a variety of browsers (Firefox, I.E.,
Chrome) and the problem occurs on all of them so it's pretty clear
    it's a limitation in Flash.
Now my PC isn't high end (it has a Pentium M 1.86 GHz
processor), but I can take those same FLV files and load them in
something like Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player (when
using ffdshow) and play the FLV files full screen with little or no
drop in frames and an acceptable CPU rate.
This is especially annoying on sites like YouTube where I
actually have to save the video and play it back in something other
than Flash to have it play back at an acceptable rate. This doesn't
work for other sites like Amazon.
Why is the CPU usage so high when decoding and displaying
videos when compared to other media players?

I've been doing research about this excessively high CPU usage problem (100%!) for weeks because I have also experienced it with my vista home premium laptop. Just recently, I have finally found the solution. The problem is not your browser or your OS or your pc's memory. The problem is caused by authorization for flash player.
Read the link (posted below) carefully and follow the steps accordingly. If you have already done steps 1 through 6 with your computer, you can go straight to step 7.

  • Database file + high cpu usage

this has only started happening since i formatted and reinstalled windows. i have tried using both itunes 6.0.2.23 and 6.0.4.2 and both have the same problem.
my music library contains 5088 songs, i have tried deleting heaps down to around 3400 and problem is still there (ie i have eliminated number of songs as a factor cause before formatting i had more than 3400 but less than 5088)
when i play a song in itunes after about 5 seconds my cpu usage will jump to 100% this is on the "system" process, itunes itself uses around 2-5%. i was watching the itunes music folder though, and what it is doing is creating a new temp file (of 7.27mb) then renaming it to replace the current "itunes music library.xml" file. as soon as the xml file is replaced (takes about 10 seconds) cpu usage returns to normal.
this exact same thing happens when i quit itunes, although it takes roughly 20 seconds.
i have tried deleting all files in the itunes music folder apart from the base database file, that did nothing.
i tried removing the entire folder and letting it create a new blank library, then added just 1 album, and it worked perfectly. i also noticed that on my original library most but not all AAC encoded files did not cause the cpu spike, all mp3s did.
i tried creating an entire blank library and adding all my music back in, it still did high cpu usage so i would assume my current database is not corrupted.
does anyone know a solution to this? how to stop it recreating the xml file with every song played. the only thing important to me is saving my playcounts, so any solution which does not require losing them would be appreciated.
also yes i have tried completely uninstalling itunes, for both of the versions mentioned above, also tried updating over the top of the current installation, problem occurs everytime.
i am running service pack 2, all current windows updates installed, no spyware, no viruses.
    thanks.
Windows XP Pro   Athlon 64 3000+, 1GB DDR Ram

It may be iTunes, but it probably is not. iTunes is just affected by a conflict with another program (possibly).
Do you have a spy sweeper/virus scanner/etc. that periodically scans your PC memory? If so, then that is what may be interacting with iTunes.
You should list the iTunes Folders as part of the exclusions within your Virus Scanners, and other Security software.
BTW: I have a Library with over 13,000 song references. I do not see the same CPU spikes when playing music. It's not the size of the database - not at your current level.

  • Screen Sharing freezing and high CPU usage

    Hello all,
I use screen sharing to remote my mac mini as a media server connected to ma HD TV to play movies, music and surf.
Since I upgrade to mavericks on my macs (Macbook Pro Retina and my Mac Mini) I have some troubles with the screen sharing feature.
No problems with the login step, the connexion is fast, all permissions are OK (I saw there were a bug with some RDP release) but sometimes, when I use fullscreen software as VLC, Firefox, etc (not the native apple full screen feature, I just clic on the + at the top of the window), my sreen sharing freeze and I can't do or move anything on the remoted mac mini. I'm unable to close (or reduce) the screen sharing app too, it's totaly busy (But I can see the movie or the website on the 2 computer, there is no deconnection)... I have to kill the process through the monitoring activity.
During the freezing time, I try to use vnc light from my Iphone and I have no problem, I can move the mouse, reduce le VLC windows... As soon I reduce the VLC windows, the screen sharing works again. I also use the logitech TouchMouse to remote the mouse, everything work fine.
Here are a screen shot of the monitoring activity of the Mac running the screen sharing app, we can see that there is a very high CPU usage when I use VLC in fullscreen on my mac mini. The first is in normal mode. The second is in freeze mode. Screen Sharing is named "Partage d'écran".
Can someone help me to fix that, everything works fine with Mountain Lion.

I have a Macbook Pro 13.5" 2.8 GHz 4 core (2 real, 2 hyperthreaded) i7 machine running with 1920X1200 display, 3 virtual screens and VMWare adding a few virtual screens (full sized).  I have another Macbook Pro 15" with 2.6 GHz Haswell 8 core (4 real, 4 hyperthreaded).  I see the problem using Screen Sharing on the 15 inch (Retina screen) mode simulating 1920 X 1200 pixels using Screen Sharing to the 13.5" Macbook Pro.
When I get the ScreenSharing problem, I have identified it as related to the VMWare screen on the 13.5" Macbook Pro being shown through Screen Sharing on the Retina Screen.  Before you conclude it is a VMWare problem, the computations are only on the Screen Sharing client side, not on the server side running VMWare.  The mouse gets unusable through Screen Sharing.  If I physically move the mouse on the 13.5" Macbook, no problem.  If I switch virtual screens, the Screen Sharing goes to normal processing.
I see an appearance of a compute-bound thread on the Screen Sharing client.  It takes 100% CPU on one thread, the machine as a whole is 12.5% busy (the performance monitor considers all 8 threads as equal when in fact, they are not).
A few more pieces of information.  The VMWare client ends up having a lot of overlapping windows with a lot of changing graphics.  My mouse runs into problems especially when it is overlaying a changing plot (Perfmon running in Windows 7, or updating email client).  It does turn out that VMWare has a "native" VNC server built-in and I tried to connect to the virtual screen using the Screen Sharing Client on the machine with computing problem and voila!, no problem.  I end up having a Screen Sharing Client running native running screen (supposed to be VNC, but I have not verified that) sharing protocol on a virtual screen that is NOT the VMWare virtual screen and a separate session using actual VNC protocol using the VMWare VNC server.  It works perfectly fine.
If I may hazard a guess, I think I know what the bug is, or at least, what is the nature of the problem that I have.  The rest of you may have a different bug.  When I have difficulty, it is because I am on a window that suppresses the dock, both in remote virtual screen and on the local machine showing the screen.  Two docks are suppressed, one remote, one local.  Throw in overlapping windows with changing graphics in the overlapped windows and toss in a mouse on top of that.  I think that the Screen Sharing is trying to refresh overlapping windows with mouse and going through the suppressed dock calculations and never converging on what the picture should be.  The mouse ends up being the visible cue that shows the time frame for iterating the windows - flickers with a timeframe of greater than a second.  That is far greater than the screen update time.  It is totally compute bound with all the overlapping stuff that it is deconflicting.  At least, that is what I think is going on.
Meanwhile, the VMWare VNC server appears to send out a single graphics context and causes the Screen Sharing client to converge to a picture.  Note, the mouse appearance is very different when attaching to the VMWare VNC Server rather than the ScreenSharing native server.  I see two mouse renderings, the virtual machine remote and a mouse rendering from my Screen Sharing client side.  They are mostly in sync in position unless I move the mouse very quickly.  If I use Screen Sharing client and server instead, I usually see only one mouse, the client side's mouse rendering.
I have a solution for my problem.  It is similar to using a different VNC server/client pairing.  I will use a VNC server for the systems giving me trouble that is not Screen Sharing Server exercising a probable bug in the Client (though, it could be a problem in the design of Screen Sharing itself).

  • Major issues with plugincontainer.exe using high cpu freezing firefox 34

Plugincontainer.exe is ruining my experience with firefox by constantly causing it to freeze due to high cpu use. Please advise of a work around or other solution. Thank you.

The only solution I have found was to downgrade to Firefox version 30.
The odd thing is that the high cpu does not happen on all web sites. wsj.com (Wall Street Journal) is fine, but cspan.org is not.
My PC does not freeze up, but it has a sustained CPU usage of 70 to 80 percent. I am running an Intel Dual Core on Windows XP.
Is this the case that my CPU is just to slow? This should no be the case since version 30 runs at the regular 15 to 30% usage.
Forgot to mention that this is the Adobe Flash player that is causing the high CPU readings.
    Thx

  • High CPU usage when downloading from ITunes Match

When attempting to download matched songs from ITunes Match, ITunes utilization spikes to over 70% and makes it almost impossible to do any other function on the computer.  Eventually ITunes fails to respond.  I have tried several remedies including reseting winsock.  Is there any other options I should try?

    Hiya,
could it have something to do with the write speed/ cache/ram?
