UCCE 7.5 to 8.5 Common Ground upgrade with uncommon hardware.

So, I have a client that is running UCCE 7.5, and they are looking to do an in place upgrade to 8.5. Most of their hardware is pretty standard, except for the PGs. There is a mix of virtual and physical servers, with drive configurations that are nowhere near a standard. The physical servers have drive configurations that are 40 gig for the OS drive, and 97 gig for the application drive. The virtual servers are a 20 gig OS drive, 50 gig application drive,
Looking through the 8.5 BOM, the requirements seem to be either 4x72 or 4x146 for the drives. I'm sure that some voodoo can be used to bring the VMs into compliance, but what about the physical servers? Is there any issue running 8.5 with these drive configurations?
The client getting ready to go to 9.1 fairly quickly after the 8.5 upgrade, and is planning a tech refresh for that project, hence the desire to use the in place hardware until the new environment is up and going.

Ok, so 8.5 won't care about your drive configuration, but TAC might. However, since you already have 7.5 running like that I can't imagine you having any additional problems. Caveat emptor, the customer is not running a standard install and make sure they understand this and it's documented.

Your description of the problem is not quite clear so I made certain assumptions. I hope I am rigtht. I believe you have a color patch such as this:
that you would like to place in an image area that has modeling in its white background. You do not want to lay in a flat color but rather to add a color and not lose the modeling or other background tone. The problem is, after making the selection, if you use Edit > Fill and set the Blending mode to Color, the white background remains white. The only colored background area may be an object's shadow or some similar area that is not pure white. (Image 2) It is an unsatisfactory result.
If that is an accurate description of the problem, consider this:
Image 1: The original image
Image 2: Edit > Fill with the Blending mode set to Color. White remains white
Image 3: Mode changed to Lab Color. Edit > Fill with the Blending Mode set to Color. Then return to RGB.
(I would not normally use this green as a replacement color but since it is a Tiffany clock, I chose a light version of Tiffany's trademark color.)

Sharing common mail account with multiple users on the same Mac

My parents recently switch to an iMac from a PC where they were using AOL. They had the PC set up with two users accounts and they did all their mail/internet using AOL.
With the new iMac, I wanted to set it up in the same way as the PC so I set them up with two user accounts and showed them how they can use Fast User Switching to switch back and forth. This works well for them because my father has mostly business stuff on the computer and my mom has mostly projects and they like to keep them separate.
Where they are getting into problems is that I have them both set up with Mail under their respective accounts to access their common AOL account. What seems to be happening is that in some cases one user will get a new mail whereas the other user might never see it. I had them configured using IMAP which I thought would be okay since the mail is stored on the server but now I am not so sure.
I'm thinking that it might help to set Keep copies of messages for offline viewing in the advanced tab to Don't keep copies of any messages, but I wasn't sure. Is a setup like this possible? Or is it just a recipe for trouble?

What you’re observing is probably an AOL issue, not a Mail issue. AOL automatically purges mail from the server after some time (just a few days if the messages have already been read). There is nothing you can do about it other than moving/copying those messages somewhere else to avoid losing them.

Are you sure you have the full JDK or just JRE?

Ground loop with TV when power adapter connected

I have a white Macbook (non-unibody) which I have connected to my TV with a mini-dvi to VGA adapter. I have done the same in the past with my Dell 1525 with no issues. When the Macbook is connected to the display whilst being connected with the power adapter, the screen has interference. After some googling I believe this is because of a ground loop. The monitor displays fine when the power adapter is removed.
Since I am using some processor-intensive applications my battery life doesn't last long, and it is incredibly inconvenient to have to keep plugging the adapter in and out.
Any suggestions on a cable to remove the ground feed or other solutions? I have already tried resetting the PRAM.

You might need an electrician to check or replace the electrical outlet or wiring, if it really is a ground loop. Try temporarily plugging the TV and Mac into the same surge strip. If the interference goes away, then the fault is likely in the outlet(s) that the Mac and TV are plugged in to. (The surge strip puts both devices on the "same outlet" thus eliminating the ground loop between outlets in your home wiring. Of course, a bad or old surge strip could cause a ground loop as well so if you're already using a surge strip, try another surge strip in case the ground loop is in the strip.)
Why don't you see it on the Dell? Likely because the Dell's power adapter has a transformer in it, which serves to isolate the electrical circuits between the devices. TVs and desktop computers often do not have this type of "isolation" transformer anymore, so ground loop interference can be more noticable. BTW, they do sell isolation transformers, but they're mostly for TV technician troubleshooting and not designed for continuous use. One that can handle a TV's electrical load can cost more than an electrician, so don't bother. You might be able to find a smaller, lower cost one to handle the Mac, but it still would mean a issue with the electrical wiring that may get worse over time. So IMO, better to spend the money on a electrician.

Replace commons-logging.jar with another version

(v. 1.0.4). Is possible without errors?

The versions that we provide with our product is the version that we expect to be using when using our product. Any other version may or may not work and there would be no way to fix an issue specific to using a different version than what we provide.

How to eliminate a ground loop with SCXI units

I am using a SCXI chasis, the SCXI-1102 and 1303 and a 1602 USB interface. these are connected to grounded thermocouples fixed to an experimental apparatus. How do I eliminate the ground loop that forms when I power up my laptop (w/ 120V power) and to get accurate TC data? things work find when the laptop is running on batteries, but I don't have that much battery power!

I have you tried hooking up the thermocouples differentially? This might eliminate the problem. Also, if you could give me some more information about the noise it might help me troubleshoot the problem better. Sometimes theres some noise due to lower quality power connectors on some laptops. This is typically associated with a 60Hz noise. Most of this is seen through a small audio hum when trying to amplify audio coming from laptops but it might be affecting the grounding of your USB DAQ card. You might try one of these audio hum eliminators around which may solve the problem. If you search google for "audio hum eliminator", you will find a variety of products for it. In conclusion, I would first recommend trying differentially and if that doesn't fix the problem you might look into the ground loop eliminator products out there.

Integration of Commons Logging framework with Weblogic

We are trying to use Apache commons logging framework and trying to publish log mesages in Weblogic so that messages can be seen through console and all the Logging configurations can be managed from Admin console. I tried using the below steps:

But these does not seems to be working for User defined handlers. I am able to see the logs in the default odl-handler file but not able to log the messages through the handlers defined by me.

integrating Hyperion Interactive Reporting with Weblogic Portal. we are able to see the sections like Query,Report,Results but we are not able to see the content after selecting any one of the section mentioned above.
System Configuration:
Hyperion Interactive Reporting 9.3.1
App Server: Weblogic server 9.2
Web Server: Apache 2.0.52
Database: Oracle 9.0.1.
Operating System: Windows 2003 with SP1
Browser: I.E 6.0
With Workspace everything is working fine. After Integration we are facing problem.

Humming sound like a ground loop with added hard drives

I get a humming low freq Hum from my MacPro from adding or added hard drives. I am using Seagates 320's ( 3 - non raid ). The MP is under my desk and I think some may not hear what I do if sitting on a desktop.
I can't figure out if it's a ground loop issue, more than one drive spinning at the same speed or some mechanical isssue, like metal to metal contact.
Just one drive with the OS. The Hum if still there is not something I am aware of or bothers me. But your room must be quiet to hear ir best.

As I mentioned before, some people will not hear the "hum" if the MP is sitting on your desk ( or one hard drive ) . Mine is under a large desk that is 6' long, which kinda amplifies the sound and creates a sound box for the low freq hum. Some what like adding a subwoofer. But when you add one or more drives it will Hum and I think I know the cause.
One is there is no isolation ( ie rubber ) between the hard drive mounting system, the (metal) inside frame and outer (metal) case. This causes the MP to become or act like a tuning fork.
For those who do hear the hum sound, you can take both hands on either side of the MP and "squeeze" the sides and hear the sound get lower. Take your hands off and hear it louder. So the whole MP is vibrating or creating "noise" or low freq Hum ( tuning fork) .
The problem is some what resolved with using 2 drives if you mount one in bay 1 and the second in bay 4. ( not side by side ) In other words, the sound is amplified to a higher degree if you have matching drives ( non raid ) next to eachother.
This issue will drive you nuts if you have it or can hear it. The MP stock 2.66 thats a month old is what I have. Maybe some other Macs don't show this same sound.
Whats interesting is the metal case, both outer and inter being connected as a "rigid unit" is causing or lets say, making matters worse. The other of which I have not plotted the freq, I think is around 60hz which just so happens to be the same as your " AC power". So the humming could sound like a ground loop, when in fact the sound originates from the hard drive and is being magnfied by the rigid non insulated MP that might be inhancing it's own "resonate frequency"and acting like a tuning fork.
Now if I am right and the MP is reacting as a tuning fork. What is the solution? I don't really know. And I have not tried any so called fixes other than switching bays. I have some ideas. But only those that would not cause a warrenty issue.
I hope Apple will take a look at the issue and see if a real engineer can first identify the issue and come up with a solution.

Therefore we would like to common only the future and current components. Otherwise we had to enable all the old items (components) in the new org.
Has anybody an idea how to do this respective has experiences with a cusomization concerning this issue (in standard it seems not possible).

Unable to ground magsafe with the short UK plug

My magsafe can't properly ground/earth itself when using the direct UK plug (Figure 1), however able when using the extended UK plug cable (i.e. no electric shock) (Figure 2).
I already tried using another magsafe; same outcome.
Can anyone explain to me what's going on here? Thanks

Ah, I recall some other UK posters mentioning that the use of an extension cord on your power outlets removes the shock/grounding indicated issue you are mentioning that the short plug does not.
Oddly there was just such a mention from a UK poster on another board just a couple hours ago.

Ive had some electrical theory, but best I can recall (if correct) the longer extension grounds or dissipates as ground in some manner.

Common Code Schema with Client Schema

I have a Oracle HTTP Server, basically have a set of PL/SQL procedures and Packages that create a web pages. These packages generate HTTP and SQL statements. Each client has a schema, with a copy of the same Packages plus Tables with their own data. Data is Client specific and PL/SQL code is not. When I add a user account under a client, it basically creates synonyms to the Clients Schema.
We now have 6 Clients and the code maintenance is getting cumbersome. Would like to have a central place for code. I'm thinking to have a Common Schema for code and Client schemas to contain the data. My question is what would be the best way to implement this or if this is the best approach? When a user logins how would I point a user to the correct data schema.

Spent my Sunday morning on this issue. Ignore my earlier comment about include schema.

the above error occurs when you have any reserved keywords in your schema. Reserved keywords like "System" etc..So when your schema has element like "System", you this schema is exposed as webservice/WCF service, when you create a proxy class, the above
line will be created for system reserved elements. The clue is in your error message "System.Xml.Schema.XmlSchemaForm".
Check whether your schema has "System" as one of its elements, the you would get this error.
