UCCE 8.5.2, VmWare ESXi 4.1and VMXnet3.

Hello Team,
We are setting up a platform with UCCE 8.5.2 and we use VmWare ESXi 4.1.
As recommanded by Cisco, we are bout to disable "LRO". But according to VmWare, we should upgrade the cards to VMXnet3.
Is it supported for UCCE 8.5.2 ? I have looked in a lot of documentation but with no luck.
Regards.
Dominique.

  • How to move from vmware ESXi 5.5 to Hyper-V 2012 R2 on same hardware?

I have Vmware ESXi 5.5 Update 1 with two disks, called RAID0 (3.6 TB) and RAID5 (10.9 TB).
I am tired of having to rebuild ESXi every sixty days for home use so I am planning on moving to Hyper-V, but I'm a little nervous. I don't have swing kit, so will have to repurpose my existing 1 year old quite powerful machine (Intel i7 32 Gb RAM two sets
of RAID storage internal), 3 NICs. Features I need from VMware are:
Ability to snapshot and revert to snapshot (running and stopped VM)
Ability to move VMs between my different storage areas (RAID0 and RAID5)
Ability to set up internal networks to the Hyper-V host so I can set up virtual labs on their own virtual networks
USB pass through to the VM
Auto start VMs with the host.
Auto shut down VMs with the host.
Templating of OSs - mainly Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2, but also Centos 7. Can I convert my ESXi templates to Hyper-V?
Good performance from both Windows and Linux machines
Easy management from a workstation on the network.
Install Hyper-V to USB flash drive plugged in to the server.
    Can Hyper-V do all that?
Also, I have a migration plan. Will this work?
In ESXi move all machines for migration from RAID5 to RAID0 storage.
Install Hyper-V on the host to USB flash drive (16 GB)
Format RAID5 storage so it can take vhds. (NTFS?)
Set up networks - have three NICs on the host.
Install management software on my workstation
Convert VMware vmx machines on RAID0 storage to vhd based machines on RAID5 storage. How to do this? My machines vary from v8,9 to vmx10.
Power on VMs and perform checks.
Any comments? I'm particularly concerned about the conversion process from VMware to Hyper-V and the reliability of it. Total size of VMs to convert is just under 3 TB.

Hi Mark. The short answer is yes to all. The more detailed answer is:
Make sure you're installing Windows 2012 R2 on the bare metal. All the following refers to 2012 R2.
I recommend you take some time and go through the
    Hyper-V Best Practices Guide
Ability to snapshot and revert to snapshot (running and stopped VM) => yes, standard feature. Keep in mind this is meant to be a short term measure, not something you keep around for long time.
Ability to move VMs between my different storage areas (RAID0 and RAID5) => yes, storage migration is a standard feature that allows you to migrate a VM storage while the VM is running.
Ability to set up internal networks to the Hyper-V host so I can set up virtual labs on their own virtual networks => yes. An external vSwitch is one that's attached to a physical NIC. I recommend you review Hyper-V networking. It's a bit different than
    VMWare.
USB pass through to the VM => not exactly. Some work around options exist, including sharing the USB drive on the host.
Auto start VMs with the host => yes, standard VM setting. You get to choose per VM whether to always start, start if it was already running, never start, or start with a given delay.
Auto shut down VMs with the host => yes (like save state) - defined in each VM setting
Templating of OSs - mainly Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2, but also Centos 7. Can I convert my ESXi templates to Hyper-V => yes, native in VMM, plenty of Powershell examples available online. Manual steps in Hyper-V Manager to re-use a
sys-prepped OS image is also available.
Good performance from both Windows and Linux machines => yes, depends mostly on hardware
Easy management from a workstation on the network => yes, from a Win 8.1 workstation, install RSAT
Install Hyper-V to USB flash drive plugged in to the server => yes. 16 GB is a bit small. I recommend a pair of mirrored 128GB SATA SSDs - should be inexpensive.
In ESXi move all machines for migration from RAID5 to RAID0 storage => All you need for migration is the VMDK files for each VM. VM should be offline.
Install Hyper-V on the host to USB flash drive (16 GB) => see recommendation about a pair of boot SSDs above.
Format RAID5 storage so it can take vhds. (NTFS?) => yes, NTFS, 64KB allocation unit
Set up networks - have three NICs on the host => in a single host environment / lab, you'll use 1 NIC on a single external vSwitch I guess. Or you can NIC team them then attach vSwitch to team.
Install management software on my workstation => RSAT on Win 8.1
Convert VMware vmx machines on RAID0 storage to vhd based machines on RAID5 storage. How to do this? My machines vary from v8,9 to vmx10. => try
    MVMC 3
Power on VMs and perform checks. => no comment :)

  • Install CUCM 8.6 on VMWARE ESXi 5.0 Failed

    Dear All,
I want to install CUCM 8.6 on Virtual Machine. I'm using VMWARE ESXi 5.0 version for the VM server.
The installation CUCM 8.6 failed with error says:
"the hardware you are using is not supported for this prodcut"
I already disable LRO on the host ESXi 5.0, but still failed.
is need to install the VMTOOLs before I install CUCM?
CUCUM 8.6 support VMWARE Version ESXi 5.0?
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Krisna

    Actually for CUCM 8.5 and before it's RHEL 4, for CUCM 8.6 it's RHEL 5 (32 bit).
I used the available OVA for my lab and it worked fine:
    1 vCPU
    2304 MB RAM
    80 GB HDD
Not sure about compatibility with ESXi 5 and the VM machine v8 but above works for ESXi 4.1.
If it still doesn't work, try using the same settings as you would in a ESXi 4.1 install.

Is this possible to do - so I can learn about Oracle 11g R2 RAC operation, tuning, setup and maintenance?Yes, possible to setup.
No, you are unlikely to learn anything of value ito tuning and maintenance as the environment does not run on actual cluster h/w that are used in real world RAC clusters. For example, huge pages, jumbo frames - pretty meaningless in a VM for tuning Oracle RAC. Bonding of Interconnect Interfaces and pulling the plug - pretty much useless. What about running multiple I/O paths to the cluster's storage server? Using RDS for Interconnect instead of UDP? Etc. Etc.
RAC is only as performant, scalable and robust as the h/w components it is build on. I cannot see any value in virtualising this and expecting to gain real insight to RAC performance management and tuning. Best one can expect is familiarisation with installation prerequisites, the installation steps and setting up the database. I question if any more value than that can be obtained from a single PC virtualised RAC environment.

  • Installing Inventory only agent on VMWare ESXi

    Hello,
did anybody manage to install the Inventory-only-Agent (V 11.2.3) on a

So there are some needed commands like "whoami" missing and the OS ist

  • Can CUCM 8.5 version be installed on a DL 380 G5 server in Virtual environment (Vmware Esxi 4.0 or 4.1)? Or does it have to be only installed in UCS boxes for VMware?

Can CUCM 8.5 version be installed on a DL 380 G5 server in Virtual environment (Vmware Esxi 4.0 or 4.1)? Or does it have to be only installed in UCS boxes for VMware?
    1. If the installation is possible for the Vmware instance on a DL 380 G5/G6 server , will that be supported by Cisco ?
Similary is the case with CUIC 8.5. Has anybody worked on these do suggest ideas.

Virtualized UC applications from Cisco are only supported on the UC on UCS platform using ESXi 4.0, 4.0 Update 1, or 4.1 - hypervisor support may vary based on application.

Best to file a support ticked with VMware about this; they can help you debug and fault isolate the problem. I suspect a CPU cache problem but that is purest speculation.

  • TD100 VMWare ESXi 3.5 U4 RAID health status

    Hi,
i am using a TD100 (6429) with an 8k RAID adapter with VMWare ESXi 3.5 U4. The system is working fine with one exception:
I can not monitor the health status of my 8k RAID. It wont show up on the health status page in the VM client. Therefore the only way to check the status would be to look at the front lights of the server itself. That does not seem to be a good  solution since it is out of sight in the server room.
In the VM forums i just found that some kind of CIM would be needed.
Is there any way to resolve this issue?

    welcome to the forum!

  • Can i use free VMWare ESXi for commercial use.?

    Hi,
I know that this question have come up before but I can't find any
definitive answers. Can i use free VMWare ESXi for commercial use. We
    would like to host
several customers on a machine running  VMWare ESXi. I want a clear answer so we can do it without any further discussion.
    Thank you all in advance,
    LNN

If you plan on renting out a VM, then you need to look at the hosting programs - http://www.vmware.com/solutions/hosting/index.html.   The base EULA for ESX and ESXi do not allow for the rental of VMs but I believe it may be possible to get an exemption to that.
    http://communities.vmware.com/message/1016993#1016993
VMware grants you a nonexclusive, non-transferable license, without rights to sublicense, to  install or have installed a single instance of the Software and each Licensed Additional Module on a single Server, unless permitted to have multiple instances on a single Server or to have multiple instances on multiple Servers by the payment of applicable license fees (whether such fees are based on a per Processor, a per Virtual Machine, a per user or any other VMware approved licensing model); (ii) use the Software and each Licensed Additional Module solely for information processing and computing purposes, including the hosting of computer application-based services from a Virtual Machine and provision of such services via an internal or external network, provided such services may not consist of services to a third party that provide primarily computing or processing power (such as utility computing or grid computing) or any computer application-based service that is traded, rented, leased or sold on a Virtual Machine basis; and (iii) use and reproduce the VMware Virtual Infrastructure Client Software or VMware WebAccess (in object code form only) for the purposes of installation and operation on an unlimited number of your own internal computers or terminals solely for the purpose of accessing the Server on which the Software is installed.

  • Does the ACS v5.4 support vmWare ESXi 4.0 or 4.1?

Looked through the documents around the requirements for ACS V5.4 and whilst there was mention that it supports vmWare ESXi version 5.0, there is no indication as to whether it is backward compatible with ESXi version 4.0 or 4.1.
The vmware infrastructure that I have to use has not yet been upgraded, hence my ESXi version limitation.
    Anybody know the answer.
    Thanks
    Russ.

Yes it supports ESXI 4.0 and 4.1 both. For installation you can follow the below guide.

  • VCS installation on UCS C240 using VMWare ESXi 5.5

    Hello to everybody
I have a trouble with installing Cisco UC products on UCS C240. I have VMWare ESXi 5.5. I'll write what I've done.
At first I made Virtual Disk (Raid), but I couldn't enter Netbios configuration for a long time. I pressed CTRL+H and after that I saw screen with shell>. It was my first time I worked with UCS C240 and I didn't saw same screens during UCS C220 configuration. After that I entered exit command and Netbios screen appeared. After that I installed VMWare ESXi, configured it and installed VCS ova template. Everythung worked correct.
BUT... After turning off and on the server VMWare ESXi didn't load, I looked to the console and saw the shell> screen. I think it isn't normal.
What I have to do to load my VMWare and don't see the shell> screen.
    Thank you

Can you check your boot order? And make sure your HDD/RAID comes above the EFI shell?

  • VMware ESXi on UCS C220 M3

    Hello,
I have two UCS C220 M3 servers that host CUCM, UCCX etc.
The servers were built with the standard VMware 5.1 U2 ISO (VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.1.0.update02-1483097.x86_64.iso) rather than the Cisco custom ISO (ESXi-5.1.0-1483097-custom-Cisco-5.1.2.2.iso)
VMware ESXi seems to be working ok but I cannot install VMware tools on the virtual machines and guess that this might be because they were built with the standard ISO file.
When I run utils vmtools status on the CUCM VM I get a message stating:
The VMware Tools ISO is not mounted in the CD/DVD drive
Please ensure that you have selected Guest  -> Install\Upgrade VMware tools -> Interactive Tools Upgrade by right-clicking on the VM from your VI client
I guess the standard VMware image does not contain the tools ISO - is there any way to get around this short of trashing everything and starting again?
    thanks

    Hi James,
You still have to make VMware tools available to the guest.
ie. Using the VI Client, right click your CUCM VM, then select Guest  -> Install\Upgrade VMware tools -> Interactive Tools Upgrade
Then in the CUCM CLI, enter "utils vmtools upgrade"
    [It will reboot your node!]

  • Minimum Firmware Version on PX12-400R for VMware ESXi 5.5

    Hi,
I'm planning on upgrading my VMware ESXi hosts from 5.0 to 5.5.
The hosts have VMware Datastores mounted on our Lenovo / IOmega PX12-400R NAS.
The PX12-400R is currently on firmware version 3.3.4.29700 - will this version work ok with ESXi 5.5?
    Thanks,
    Steve.

The PX12-400R is curriently up to Firmware Version 4.0.8.23976.  I would suggest updating your Firmware to latest which could fix many of the issues.

  • [VMware ESXi Server] VMware Workbench 3.0 - Customizing RHEL OS Image Error

    Dear Sir,
We are certifying VMware ESXi 5.1 update1 Server by VMware Workbench 3.0.
We always encounter an error while customizing OS for RHEL 5.5 32-bit/RHEL 6.0 32-bit image which downloaded from RedHat.com .
The attachments are snapshot and detail error message.

    Hi Ruby12,
I store RHEL ISO images at VM which is an appliance downloaded from VMware Server Certification site.
Note: I also store SLES ISO images at VM, but Workbench3.0 can convert it successfully without any issue.
Does those info. help to clarify this issue??
