UCM 11g on Windows Server 2008 - AD Integration

We've been in the process of upgrading from 10gR3 to 11g, and we are also upgrading our server infrastructure from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008. In our 10g environment, we take advantage of the AD integration so that when users navigate to our Intranet, they are NOT challenged to log in. UCM simply uses their AD credentials. Same with when they are working with the DIS through Windows Explorer - no need to log in.
Very long story short - we cannot get this functionality working in 11g on Server 2008, even with Oracles help. The automatic AD integration in 11g needs to occur at the Weblogic level. As I understand it, for it to work, Windows must send an encrypted Kerberos ticket to WLS. WLS then has to decrypt it and then accept it. The problem is that Windows wants to send it encrypted in RC4-HMAC but WLS wants to decrypt it in DES. Hence, WLS cannot decrypt the ticket.
We have heard of people getting WLS to work with RC4, but Oracle have said that this is not supported. The alternative is to get Windows to send it in DES, but our NEtwork guys are not keen on this as they say it is a step down. It's also very complicated and a big impact to our domain. Oracle have said that AES will eventually be supported, but there is no timeframe for it.
Has anyone had any experience with this issue? I am interested in peoples thoughts and experiences in this area.

Hi,
I heard from an Oracle employee that RC4 is not supported by Oracle.
We did make tests with AD on Windows2003 and AD on Windows2008 with RC4 and DES encryption and it is working in both cases. Our weblogic server is installed on Windows2008R2 in both cases.
-Making it work on Windows2008
--Requires to use ktpass instead of using setspn and ktab
-Making it work on Windows2003
--Requires to use ktpass instead of using setspn and ktab
--Requires to set the DefaultEncryptionType to 1, if DES encryption should be used.
Both solutions require a lot of time for first time installation :-)
Greetings

You said, "...+I would like to install Release 2(11.1.1.2.0)+ ...". Be careful. 11.1.1.2.0 is not Release 2. The version for Rel 2 is 11.1.2.0, notice that there is one less "1". Also, there is no way to patch from Release 1 to Release 2.
In EDelivery, this is what you should find if you search on "Oracle Fusion Middleware" for "Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)":
First look for this link then drill into it:
Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Media Pack for Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)
In this section you will find the following:
This is the full product installation of FMw 11 Release 2 (Forms & Reports)
    Oracle Forms and Reports 11g R2 (11.1.2.0.0) for Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) V28761-01

This is the FMw 11 Release 1 patch set that will bring the above 11.1.1.2.0 installation to 11.1.1.6.  This is NOT a full product installation - just a patch
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g Patch Set 5 (11.1.1.6.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) V29850-01
There are no patch sets for Release 2 as of yet.

  • Problems installing OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit

Hi, I'm trying to install OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit (standard edition, SP2), and it's blowing up running the installer. The installer gets past the first couple of "info" screens, but blows up prior to coming to the first "real" screen with an error:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Assertion Failed:
    Program: ...
    File: ../../../src/share/native/sun/font/t2k/t2kstrm.c
    Line: 132
    Expression: pos <= t->maxPos
Has anyone seen this and/or have an idea how to work around this? Note that I did do the prerequisite download / install of the 2005 Visual C++ 64 bit libraries.
    Thanks,
    Scott

Just to close the loop on this thread, this does indeed seem to be some sort of font / java issue on our servers. I've been completely unable to get the install to work using the GUI. However, if I run it from command line using the -silent and -response paramaters along with a proper response file, the install went perfectly. I'm going to continue working the SR with Oracle - don't want to be stuck using -silent mode when things get more complicated, but at least now I can move forward.
If anyone else has a better workaround - please let me know. "Silent" mode is workable, but difficult and time consuming.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Weblogic 11g on windows server 2008 - run WLST

how to configure weblogic 11g on windows server 2008 to run a simple WLST script
I managed to get so far on Windows to run a WLST script. Most examples are in Unix
I am in Dos, and ran our set environment variables.
    Run java weblogic.WLST
To use WLST in interactive mode:java weblogic.WLST
    I get as far as wls:/offline> connect('weblogic','weblogic','localhost:7001')
    This works,
So now I am trying to figure out how to display the server state of the server, most examples are for unix.
Would any one have one that shows the server state, number of connections, and the number of active threads or stuck.
Just a a pointer would help me.
    Cheers

  • When will Oracle 10g/11g support Windows Server 2008 and AIX6.1

    Hi all
I'm sorry if I post it in a wrong place... But I really want to know when will Oracle 10g/11g support Windows Server 2008 and AIX 6.1?
I've searched in metalink but found nothing useful. Is there anybody can give me a link of Oracle's roadmap for platform support?
    Thanks!

Oracle does not announce release dates and neither
does any other software company. But Oracle does have a very good track record of supporting their products on new windows releases extremely close to the windows release date. Clearly they can't support on an unreleased platform though. Given that the launch of Server 2008 isn't even complete worldwide yet (19th March in the UK for example) it would seem that this enquiry is a little premature.

  • Upgrade to 11g on Windows Server 2008

    Hi
I'm planning an upgrade of a 9.2.0.8 32-bit database to 11g 64-bit. The database is around 250GB in size, and is hosted on a Windows 2003 server. The plan is to host the upgraded database on a new Windows 2008 64-bit server. I have a maximum two-hour outage window
My initial thoughts for the upgrade procedure were as follows:
    1) Install 9i 32-bit and 11g 64-bit on the new 2008 server
    2) A day or two before the upgrade, clone the 9i database to the new 2008 server and open the database in recovery mode
    3) Rollforward the clone database by applying archive logs from the source until the start of the outage window
    4) Shutdown the old database, copy the last logs to the new server, apply them to the clone database, and run the upgrade procedure.
Then I realised that 9.2.0.8 won't install on Windows Server 2008 as it's not certified.
Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the best way I could do this?

250GB is not all current data and hopefully is partitioned. Approach this from the standpoint of moving 90+% before the outage. Tell us more about the organization and tablespaces.
Amazon.com has got the upgrade in place optimized to only to 16 minutes per database. I can't tell you the details but I can tell you that much of what Oracle does in its upgrade scripts can be done prior to the outage. And some of it after the database is opened again. See if you can slice and dice the upgrade script to minimize downtime too.

  • Oracle XE 11g and Windows Server 2008 - 64 bits

    Hello,
    my questions are :
    - is Oracle XE working on 64 bits (windows)
    - if it doesn't :
    - is an update coming ?
    - is there any solution to make Oracle XE running with Win2008 Server 64 bits (i tried, but i had many problems with execution of listener)
    Thx for your informations.

Hello, and welcome to the OTN forums!
You could have used the search forum to find answers to these frequently asked questions...
However, I give you a short intro:
    - is Oracle XE working on 64 bits (windows)There is no general answer to that question. As you've found out, there is no installer for 64bit Windows. As for 32bit, there are several Windows versions that are listed in the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH]System Requirements section of the XE Installation Guide, and a few you won't find there, e.g. Vista or Home Editions. This means you'll probably experience problems when trying to install on any OS version not listed there. Some of them might be worked around, others may not.
Since your target is Windows Server 2008 (edition?), you might get a more precise answer when you search for that.
    - is an update coming ?See {thread:id=2277728} .
In addition to that, {thread:id=2278170} contains an overview for the state of all operating systems.
    - is there any solution to make Oracle XE running with Win2008 Server 64 bits (i tried, but i had many problems with execution of listener)The safest way would be to use a VM with a supported operating system.

  • Can't connect Forms 6i to Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2008 SE

    Hi everyone,
I have Oracle 10g working pretty well with Forms 6i, but now I have installed Oracle 11g on another server and I'm trying to connect Forms 6i to my other Oracle 11g server, but Forms 6i never gets connected. Is there any trick to make it work? I have check the upper cases and other things related with lower and upper case passwords, but nothinh happens.
    Can anyone please help me?

    Hello;
Its probably the Oracle client that installs with Forms 6. Try connecting to the database using SQL Plus from a Forms workstation. If it fails I would install a newer client and switch the Oracle Home on all the workstations.
( Provided it tests out )
I would probably try using the Net Configurations Assistant in your Oracle Start Menu group with all combinations I could think of before I added a second client to the mix.

I've got two (2) nodes in an Oracle RAC 11g in Windows Server 2008. Oracle software is installed in C:\app.
I realized that it's not been set ORACLE_HOME path. In System Properties-> Advanced -> Environment Variables, I see that ORACLE_HOME is empty.

  • Oracle 11g Client for Windows Server 2008 Relase2 Operating Stystem

    Hi,
I am having a server with Operating System as Windows Server 2008 R2 version 64 - bit.
I am using SSRS 2008 which is 64 bit, for retreiving the data from Oracle (which is 11g - 32 bit), I am unable to create data source for Oracle.
I had installed ODAC Components of Oracle 11.1.0.7.20 on the server, but still I am getting the following error:
"The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' provider is not registered on the local machine."
Does any one know how to install Oracle Client 11g on Windows Server 2008 R2 Operating system?

    Helios,
It is wonderful that you are polite and encouraging to new people.
While you are responding, could you explicitly direct people to use the correct forum. This has at least 2 benefits:
    1) Ensures that the person gets the widest possible amount of assistance;
    2) Ensures that the rest of us do not need to waste time on improperly placed questions.
I suggest 'explicitly' since some people do not get the hint, and keep returning to the original thread.
This thread belongs in 'Database - General' or 'Database - Install'.

  • Setup 2-Node RAC 11.2.0.1.0 on Windows Server 2008

I have been setting up RAC environments in VirtualBox and VMWare in my local machine and in our test server. I have done the following setup:
    1. RAC 10g on RHEL 5.4 (VMWare / VBox)
    2. RAC 11g on RHEL 5.4 (VBox)
    3. RAC 11g on Windows Server 2008 (VBox)
Now, our management wants me to setup a 2-node RAC in real world. Cost is not an issue here as this will be financed by a big private group.
I am excited to do the project as I am really enthusiastic in database clustering. Of course, there is a little nervous feeling since this is
my first time doing it in real world (as the best RAC expert started from his first deployment :) ).
I am going to build RAC 11.2.0.1.0 in Windows Server 2008
I would like to seek advise on:
    - the best practices, what are the things that I have to consider?
    - any straight forward real world deployment guide or technical papers that can serve as my reference
    - any issues that I might encounter
    - any help and feedback
I know I can be successful in this first time project if ill seek advise to the experts.
I hope you can help me and I will be glad to read and review your contributions.
    Thanks a lot.....

    Hi,
Few months ago I had a project to setup RAC on Windows 2008 R2. For six months now there are no problems and it's working fine, but I have to say that installation wasn't easy and took me a lot of time. Another thing is the troubleshooting, I feel completely helpless when (if) something screws up. It takes between 10 to 15 mins to have database running in case of reboot of the servers.
So here are few things to consider:
    - Disable write cache on shared disks.
    - Disable User Access Control!
    - Disable firewall (really important)!
    - Use diskpart command to create extended and logical partition on all disks.
    - There is also nasty bug we hit, I've blogged about it:
    http://sve.to/2011/09/29/exhaust-of-windows-2008-heap-memory-with-oracle-database-11-2-0-2/
    - I had a terrible problems with user equivalence. Verify Privileges for copying files in the cluster:
    net use \\nodeX\c$
    - Once installation is completed apply latest Bundle Patch - currently this is BP6 (Patch 13965211):
DB 11.2.0.3 Patch 6 includes all bugs fixed in 11.2.0.3 Patch 1 to Patch 5 and also includes CPU2012. It must be applied on top of the 11.2.0.3.
    Useful MOS notes:
RAC and Oracle Clusterware Best Practices and Starter Kit (Windows) [ID 811271.1]
Windows: CLUVFY Fails with TCP Check PRVF-7617 Due to Case of Node Names [ID 1286394.1]
Finally if you have a choice then go with Linux, it's robust, easy to install and maintain. You have better control on the system and user processes, it's more flexible and easy to troubleshoot.

    Sve

  • Installation of Oracle 11g Release 2 on Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hi:
    When I tried to install 64-bit Oracle 11g Release 2 on a system running 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2.
One of the system pre-requisites failed with the following error message:
    Checking operating system requirements ...
    Expected result: One of 5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0
    Actual Result: 6.1
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: Oracle Database 11g is not certified on the current operating system.
Recommendation: Make sure you are installing the software on the correct platform.
I presume 6.0 is Windows 2008 Server and 6.1 should be Release 2.
Does this mean that this version is not compatible with Server 2008 Release 2?

Is there any information about features in 11gR2 for Windows available yet?

I've tried running setup -debug from the command line but no further information is logged.

That is the complete log file. No error messages or further information is given.
I'm not sure how to check:

That's the problem. DG4ODBC on 64bit Windows is 64bit and thus it also requires a 64bit ODBC driver.
If you don't find one - maybe you can install DG4ODBC 32bi on a 32bit platform (please do NOT install it on the 64bit Windows machine) and then use this 32biit DG4ODBC with the 32bit ODBC driver.
Another option would be to purchase a commercial ODBC driver or a bridged ODBC driver.
