UCM 5.1.2 DHCP Question

I currently have a DHCP server configured on UCM. I want to move this to the switch that the UCM and all my phones are connected to. Do I need to delete the DHCP server from the UCM as I configure DHCP on the switch due to broadcast? Is there just a way to disable it, or do I have to delete it?

I was able to remove dhcp server from CUCM and then enable on switch, however, the Linux Kernel didn't recognize that I killed the dhcp server, so it was still handing out addresses. We couldn't figure out how this was happening because there was no dhcp server on the CUCM anymore. TAC dialed in and SSHed to my Publisher. He found that the dhcpd service was still running even though we had killed it. Odd! Anyhow, after he stopped it, all was good.

  • Mdt 2012 + WDS service on the same server. DHCP question

    Hi,
I am using MDT 2012 on Server 2008.
Boot images are placed on 6 years old WDS server running on 2003.
I need to remove WDS server (2003).
Cannot find exact instructions for enabling PXE for MDT2012.
I don't need introduction guides. But clear few lines of instructions.
From quickly checking web I understand that I need:
    1. install WDS services on the same MDT2012 server 2008.
    2. import Lite Touch boot images from Deployment Share
The only point I am missing is DHCP question. In Microsoft prerequisites for WDS services, DHCP should be present on the same server were WDS is...
I watched one video on web and the guy just installs WDS on the MDT server and not mentioning DHCP at all.
Sure that there is DHCP server serving multiple subnets on the network.
My confusion about DHCP on WDS prerequisite comes from not having DHCP services installed on old WDS 2003 machine.
So why it is required on WDS service in server 2008/2012?
Can somebody confirm that DCHP must exist on the same server were MDT and WDS services are enabled.
And is it a valid option to have all 3 on one Server machine if DHCP is really needed for enabling PXE in MDT environment?
I saw the info about ports 67 (should be disabled) and 60 for PXE enabled.
Will appreciate DHCP part explanation and how to...
    Thanks.

    RL69,
in my environment DHCP serves multiple subnets. For now no need to serve client machines on different subnets. The Deployments will be done on subnet were MDT resides. If necessary PXE relay could be enabled on Core switch (or where necessary).
So if I understand correctly for a scenario above all what I need to do for PXE enabled MDT is:
to add WDS role/service on the same MDT server and import boot images.
    Right?
Will do it right after your confirmation :)

  • RV110W DHCP question?

    On rv110w, I have 4 vlans.
vlan3 feeds a dumb switch and a Wireless AP. When looking at router DHCP leases, it shows devices connected that are not connected. Kinda like it doesn't refresh the list. Set to 50 leases. Questions: Is this normal? How often should it refresh? Is the DHCP time put in as minutes???
Many thanks for providing related info.

When time was set for 5 minutes, after 10plus minutes, the Networking-LAN-DHCP Leased clients shows a total of 50 (max) clients for VLAN3 and there should have been only 2 connected.
I had to ping the AP to get that VLAN returned to life (showing up as connected devices under status tab). This VLAN3 connection does not appear to be stable as the wireless through the AP (and even the switch) is unreliable. The AP has a static IP of .3.50 which is less than the .3.100-.3.149 range. I assume this is the correct setup for the AP??
Thanks for the help. The devices that are connected to the switch don't always show up. Something is wrong here, just can't put my finger on it.

  • VLAN DHCP Question

    Hi All,
just some general questions about VLANs and DHCP etc. When you create a number of different vlans, across different switches, does each vlan require a dhcp server, for those nodes to obtain their IPs.? Or, is this achieved another way.? Also, what is the difference bewteen an access switch and distribution switch.? Cheers.
    coolboarderguy...

Related to this issue i have following problem
I have multiple VLAN, one DHCP server, ip helper-address and all is OK but problem is with 2000 Server. The following error messages are added to my server's system log (as seen with the Event Viewer) approximately every 12 minutes:
The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer MyBDC that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_NETFLX1. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

  • Time capsule IP settings / NAT / DHCP / questions

I'm trying to set up a Time Capsule in my apartment, to use as a wireless router with several apple computers. I've been using an Airport Express in the past. I'm having problems setting up the computers to get individual IP addresses, not in conflict with each other, while still receiving the Internet signal.
My DSL comes with a stable IP address which I have assigned to the Capsule, along with associated subnet mask, router address (the router in the building from the service provider, which is working fine), and DNS server addresses.
Trouble is, if I set my capsule to assign IPs through DHCP or share a signal IP, it shows blinking amber on reboot. Strangely, as a bridge, with one computer assigned the same IP I'm able to get the internet, but if I want to use more than one computer, I get an error message about IP duplication. I'm also wondering about double NAT (which I'm not as familiar with). ANother question is whether to plug into the WAN or LAN port. The airport setup seems to want me to use the WAN port (and says that no ethernet plugged in there is a problem). Is it?
Finally, I was wondering if I can use my old airport express to extend my range and/or network a second printer in the other room. Do the two routers need to be connected by an ethernet cable? Can the airport express be remotely set up to use the same network the Time Capsule is plugged into from the wall?
Many thanks for anybody's help with this.

The airport setup seems to want me to use the WAN port (and says that no ethernet plugged in there is a problem). Is it?
Yes you want the DSL modem plugged into the WAN port.
Does your DSL require PPPoE? If so, after configuring the Time Capsule to get a connection using PPPoE... ensure that you DISABLE PPPoE on each of your computers. Only one device should be handling PPPoE.
Finally, I was wondering if I can use my old airport express to extend my range and/or network a second printer in the other room.
Yes as long as you configure the Time Capsule to work in an 802.11g compatible mode AND you configure both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express (AX) to wirelessly connect using WDS.
Do the two routers need to be connected by an ethernet cable?
    No

  • DHCP question on VPN to ASA 5520

Our VPN uses the Microsoft VPN client to connect to an ASA 5520 running 8.0(3). Clients get address from our internal DHCP server. How do I get the ASA to send the client computer name in the DHCP request, rather the the group name and some number it appends to it? This is an issue for us because those entries show up as "rogue" registrations in DNS, because they don't match our naming structure.

Make sure if the client is forwarding it's name in the DHCP messages. Parameters can't be added at ASA.

  • WLC DHCP question

    Hi all
Is it possible to issue a static IP address to a user using the WLC's built-in DHCP server? Each time I connect to a different WLAN and then reconnect to the WLC WLAN, I get a different IP address, even though I've reconnected before the lease time for the IP is set to expire.
Our code version is 4.0.217.0, and the WLC is installed into a 2811.
    Thanks

    Anthony,
As fas as I am aware in your version of code - no. according to:-

  • 5508 DHCP questions, 2 seperate DHCP's/subnet's possible?

I have my 5508 setup so that the management/APmanagement port is connected to a switch on vlanXX unsing port 1 active and 2 as failover.
Then i have a guest interface setup using port 3 and 4 for failover connected to a different switch with its own DHCP.
The Guest Wlan is not picking up a DHCP address and i'm guessing that that is because its sending the request across the management interface? which has no route to the Guest switch with the dhcp server?
How can i get the guest lan to work with a seperate DHCP server on a different subnet?

    Hi Eric,
I wanted to add a few additional informational points that may help you understanding proxy and not to proxy.
When DHCP proxy is enable. The DHCP request from the wireless client is sent unicast from the WLC interface that receives it on behalf of the client. Example -- if your guest WLC interface is 192.168.1.10 -- If you sniff this traffic you would see a unicast frame leaving the WLC to your DHCP from 192.168.1.10 on behalf of your wireless client. This is a problem when you use a FW for a DHCP server. FWs dont like this . Also this means that no IP HELPER is needed on the SVI interface.
When DHCP proxy is disabled. Normal IP helper flow happens. The client will broadcast for a DHCP, the WLC will send it to the router and the router will forward to the helper / DHCP server.
The managment interface is not in play UNLESS you use the WLC AS A DHCP SERVER.
    Hope this helps ...

  • Lightweight ap dhcp question

It appears that the lightweight AP is renewing its dhcp address every 6 hours and ignoring the lease time sent from our dhcp server which is set for 24 hours renews in 12. Is there a setting on the wireless controller that will overide the lease time sent to it from the dhcp server?

No.  Maybe you have two DHCP scopes?

  • E1200 DHCP question?

I want to use my E1200 on my existing network which already has another device providing internet access.  This network curently does not have a DHCP server.  I want to use the DHCP functionality of the E1200 to give out IP addressing to my clients, but I want to assign the default gateway of the Internet connected device, not the E1200.  I do not want to change the IP addressing of my current network.  Can this be done? I'm not having any luck figuring out a way to give out a default gateway address via DHCP for an IP other than the IP address of the E1200 itself?  Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortuantely you can't because it's DHCP will automatically set the Gateway IP Address to itself.

  • DHCP question

Hello, this is my first time setting up a home wireless network with linksys. I recently purchased a MRT150N but have had trouble installing it due to my IP address being assigned by DHCP. When installing, the router is unable to connect to the internet and I do not see any other problems. Is there a way of using a IP adressed assigned by DHCP or do I need to change to a Static IP. And if so, what gateways, subnets masks, and DNS servers should i use. Thank you for you help.

To edit a message, click on the Options menu at the upper right.
The router uses DHCP by default. Open the router configuration interface at http://192.168.1.1/ Click on Status and post the connection status.

  • DHCP Question - E3200

Just installed this router two days ago. Both wired and wireless computers connect with no problems, the exception being an ip conflict error  I get once everyday, telling me that the ip address is assigned to another device.
Cisco connect tells me I have 4 devices on the network, but when I pull up the DHCP Table on the router's page, it lists none. I have not changed any default router settings. Router is connected to a cable modem, and has DHCP enabled.

An IP address conflict occurs when two computers on a LAN (local area network) or the Internet have been assigned the same IP address. IP conflicts between two computers normally render either one or both of them unusable for network operations.
    Resolving IP Address Conflicts
Try the following remedies for IP conflicts:
    1. For networks where IP addresses are fixed (statically assigned), ensure each local host is configured with a unique IP address.
    2. If your computer has a dynamically assigned address, releasing and renewing its IP address can workaround IP address conflicts. See also - How to Release / Renew IP Addresses on Windows
    3. If your home router is believed to have a faulty DHCP server causing IP conflicts on the home network, upgrading the router firmware may resolve this problem.

  • Newbie: DHCP, HostName, sys-unconfig

    Sun Ultra 5
    Solaris 8
    Linksys BEFSR41 Router
    Background:
I am configuring my first Sun system.
I installed Solaris 8 (02/02) and have the system running. This is actually my second install on this machine due to a problem (caused by me).
    Problem:
The system reports that there is no hostname. I have looked at the online documentation and have run sys-unconfig several times.
When I run sys-unconfig, as root, I open a console, type sys-uncofig, and then answer y to reboot. The system reboots (usually -- sometimes there is a RPC error and the system halts. I press STOP + A to regain access and then type boot at the ok prompt). When the system reboots, I get a language question, IPv6 question, and usually a DHCP question. I answer yes to IPv6 andselect DHCP. Then I usuallly get an error after confirming all prompts indicating that since the machine booted from the network, DHCP was not available. My problem is (probably many), I am never prompted for a hostname. I also never seem to complete the sys-uncofig scripts without some type of error. Oddly, my previous install did not have this problem and I was able to set my hostname previously.
I have referred to the online documentation (recommending using sys-uncofig to reset the hostname). There is no /etc/nodename file on the machine currently so I cannot just change this file.
Any help would be appreciated. I am concerned that the sys-unconfig never seems to prompt me for the appropriate questions.

    Thank you for the help.
The problem does seem to be due to my selection of
DHCP first. I probably got confused following the
first installation. I thought that I did this before
(select DHCP right away) but may not have. I will try
the suggestions and post the results. The problem here, which I have as well with this Linksys router, is the DHCP server. It does serve IP addresses but not hostnames. It's really TurboLinux inside the router, you'd think one could specify hostnames as well but there is no way to configure such things. The Sun box simply gets an IP without the hostname.
I tried changing the two files specified previously, I don't believe this works. I had CDE going crazy trying to associate unknown with loopback or something. Try setting these, then selecting Host->This Host. No go.

  • [SOLVED] DHCP error during install due to multiple net cards

    Hello all,
At the "Setup Network" option during the installation, I choose eth0. Then it asks if I want to use DHCP. I select 'Yes' but get
Failed to run dhcpcd. See /dev/tty7 for details
while polling for DHCP. So I press Alt+F7 and the details are
    eth0: dhcpcd 4.0.10 starting
    eth0: waiting for carrier
    eth0: timed out
When I try to manually set it up (ie select 'No' when asked if I want to use DHCP), it asks for the following: IP address, submask, broadcast, Gateway (optional), DNS Server. Then it says "Network is configured" but I still can't download the packages.
I have a Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC card (not wireless) to a Linksys Router. I've set up DHCP on it for 5 users (only two being used). By the way I have WinXP on the same computer which accesses the network fine, and net access also worked during other distros' installation.
    Any clues? Thanks.

Sorry I was maybe a little bit unclear on my previous post, but I'm pretty sure that I don't have an IP address during installation. I would like to add some precisions. Here are my observations:
When I type ifconfig immediately after login (as root), it shows
    lo Link encap:Local loopback
    inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask 255.0.0.0
    UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
Then when I run /arch/setup, Configure Network, answer 'Yes' to DHCP, and after the error message (the one on 1st post), ifconfig gives this (which clearly shows that I do NOT have an IP)
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:39:63:8C:EE
    UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
    lo Link encap:Local loopback
    inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask 255.0.0.0
    UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
Finally, when I answer 'No' to the DHCP question, and after I've entered my IP/Broadcast/Subnet Mask/DNS addresses, the result of ifconfig is the one on the previous post, that is
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:39:63:8C:EE
    inet addr:172.30.201.6 Bcast:172.30.201.255 Mask 255.255.255.0
    UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
    lo Link encap:Local loopback
    inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask 255.0.0.0
    UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
NB: I have entered the same addresses that I use normally (ie with Windows, the ones I see in cmd->ipconfig /all), but I could have entered whatever addresses I wanted. And I still don't have net access during install (ping does not return anything).
Can you explain what are you doing to install Linux? Do you try to run the CD from within Windows or are you placing the CD in the CD bay and re-booting the machine and the CD fails?
Of course I am booting the cd at startup (not within windows)! And the CD does not fail, or at least does not seem. Everything runs fine except the DHCP thing. So the problem is not the CD, but my computer. I'm finding a way to get DHCP working during the installation.

  • UCM & structured data (with no associated file)

    Hi,
    I'm new to UCM.
In my undestanding of UCM, I can store a structured data into it, only if the data has a file associated with it...I'm correct?
As an example, in my job, I've a web form (the structured data) made up with a dynamic number of fields (representing an electric component datasheet). Web form input fields (document metadata) are the data I would like to manage with UCM. I've not a file associated with the web form.
Can I insert those metadata in UCM and then manages revisions, execute queries (etc.) based on those items?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards.
    S.

Yes, I think you got me right.
The use case, basically, is that you have an HTML form and submitting it will transform it to an XML file (thus, create a file) and send it to UCM for processing. The question is, if you send the file with no metadata and have UCM (Content Categorizer) categorize it for you, or if you parse the form at front-end and send both the file and metadata already categorized from it. If you have WebCenter in the project, the latter might be the right way to go - I'd believe that there is an ADF component (it might be ADF, rather than WebCenter Framework component, actually) somewhere that can do for you what you need.
Customizing the UCM GUI? Well, why not? However, you wrote
I've a web form (the structured data) made up with a dynamic number of fieldsso I thought, you have your form READY somewhere, so why would you repeat the same with the means of UCM? Anyway, if you decide to do that, take a look at profiles.
Nevertheless, choose whichever way works the best for you. I'd actually believe that getting an XML from an HTML form is a simple XSLT task, but I'm not a web programmer, myself.
