  • The big picture for UCM and WebCenter

Can someone explain how our UCM product fits with Oracle's WebCenter? Can it replace Site Studio? Is anyone experimenting with this or can point me in the direction of connecting the Web Center product to the UCM product (10g or 11g)?
In the Oracle WebCenter - Statement of Direction
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/webcenter/pdf/owcs_r11_sod.pdf
I read the following that implies WebCenter can connect to UCM.
Embed Web 2.0 into applications – WebCenter Services
WebCenter Services include a complete set of Web 2.0 content, search, collaboration, and communication services that can be embedded directly into applications built with the WebCenter Framework. The level of integration is unique and compelling and allows the services to be accessible in the context of the task or business flow. These services include:
A content management solution for storing and managing files and documents (Oracle Content Database or, as an additional license option, Oracle Universal Content Management – that is, Stellent)
But I don't really know what that means to me or how to get started.
    Thanks.

Wll, it's quiet easy. Webcenter is designed to handle services. UCM is also complettly service oriented so you could create a webapplication with webcenter where you define services from UCM and create your own user interface.
It's nothing more than the fact that webcenter can handle services (WSDL, SOAP).
You could create a site without siteStudio, using webcenter. Nothing wrong with that but don't forget that siteStudio has lots of tools that are great for UCM like the contributor mode. Also, the fragments that are allready build in in siteStudio give a big advantage. If you want to create these things in zebcenter, you'll have to start from scratch.
I do believe Oracle is working on an portal like interface to create portlets and stuff, perhaps they will create some tools special for the use of UCM and webcenter. This offcourse would be very nice

    Hi,
First i have installed Oracle UCM and configure it on Weblogic Server successfully. But after the installation of Webcenter Portal on same machine and Weblogic Server. Hi Shaeer,
Make sure that you dont have same port numbers on both servers.
If it then try to avoid them.
Secondly also check nodemanager log server log to verify why it went to shutdown mode.

  • Oracle Webcenter Interaction and ADF

    Hi,
Could someone please confirm if Oracle Ensemble is required for ADF to be used in Oracle Webcenter Interaction? I have looked a documentation how Oracle Ensemble can be used to integrate ADF and Webcenter Interaction. I would like to know what are the benefits to use Ensemble to be able to use ADF in WCI.
Also, have one more question - is it true that using ADF makes it easier for the WCI Portlets to be migrated to Webcenter ? How does using ADF helps as compared to for example using Spring based Java Portlets in WCI?
    Thanks !

  • WebCenter Interaction or Oracle Content Integration Suite?

    Hello all,
I am a newbie to WebCenter.
I am very confused with whice we should use to integrate Oracle UCM with WebCenter, WebCenter Interaction or Oracle Content Integration Suite?
Is there any guides for UCM and WebCenter(10g and 11g) Integration?

    Workflow simple?Hi Geoff,
Whoah, that’s a lot of questions, this should probably be on another thread. By far, this in not a definitive review. (only personal experiences).
    But here goes…
    Assuming you’re using WCI 10.3.0\ALUI 6.5.x:
What has your experience with UCM been like?
    - Good. You should take UCM training to get the full breadth of what it offers.
    - UCM Install: Pretty simple. If you know where to look.
    - UCM is a Site Manager\builder and THEN some! CPS Portlet Integration covers a small set use cases of its full potential. UCM appears to be a stand alone product.
    - CPS Portlet integration. Not tightly integrated… Currently, you will have to manually add the portal users in the USERS ADMIN utility in the UCM installation. CPS Portlets EAR file is deployed on the OC4J Container/frameworks, which makes it a "Producer". ALUI WSRP Piece is the "Consumer" of the CPS Portlets into the Portal. Make sure you have installed ALUI WSRP correctly. Suggest learning about “WSDL”s. Currently, ALUI WSRP only supports version 1.0 WSDL’s. Only use the version CPS Portlet 1.0 WSDL’s, it offers you both 1.0 and 2.0.
    - What is OC4J Container? ‘http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/oc4j/1013/index.html’ Just install the oc4j frameworks… the full installation appears to be unnecessary.
Are the portlets good? Comparable to publisher in functionality?
    - The CPS Portlet Suite only represents Administration Portlets for UCM. There is no single .PTE file for CPS Integration. Per Documentation, "3.2.2 CPS Consumption Steps". You have to manage your admin objects.
    - There are no fancy wizards that will make your portlets, YET. Hopefully, this will be available in the future. Web service and portlet creation must be done manually. You must manually create your own web services to point at off site content.
How is the ease of use for non-technical content managers?
    - Well, once it is set up and you’re trained on UCM. Sure it's snap.
    Workflow simple?
    - Sorry, I haven't worked with this functionality.
Comments: Publisher really pampers you with all its portlet wizards. Look for them in WCI 11G/above.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers!!!

  • Information Architecure for UCM 11g/WebCenter PS4

    Hi
Can anyone share their info architecture findings for UCM/11g and WebCenter PS4 e.g. security model, metadata model, taxonomy approach for managing group spaces. I'm keen to hear if you've put a info governance structure around the content for example - and if so - how did you form it? Where did your security model stope e.g. at Group Space level, or did you have to consider the confidential nature of documents within folders in the group space. Have you add additional metadata fields to help with search?

  • Please change "WebCenter Portal - Interaction" to "WebCenter Interaction"

Could you please change the name of the forum titled "WebCenter Portal - Interaction" to "WebCenter Interaction"?
The amount of posts in this forum related to "WebCenter Portal" (a different product) has increased dramatically recently and are lessening the value of the discussion board.
WebCenter Portal and WebCenter Interaction are completely different products which have absolutely nothing in common other than similar names.
OTN discussions on one product share no commonality with the other.

  • Oracle UCM 10gr3 and webcenter 11g, WCM Portlets

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle UCM 10gR3, Site Studio 10gR4 and Webcenter 11g. Now my problem is how to get the WYSIWIG (WCM Portlet) created in UCM to be retrieved in webcenter spaces.
My understanding after reading some articles is the only way i can communicate is through WSRP (CIS and CPS), if that is the case can u suggest what is the difference between them and which one is best one for a Intranet Application. Please also provide the example for the portlet and the steps to install them locally.
i not asking to give all the answers at a time. Just share bit by bit even if u have some knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Pradeep.
    I am a Newbie!!!

    Hey Pradeep,
You have lots of options for retrieving content from UCM in WebCenter besides CIS and by extension CPS. The best article on the subject can be found here (if you haven't already read it): http://blogs.oracle.com/fusionecm/2010/04/oracle_ucm_integration_with_we.html
To more directly answer your questions the difference between CIS and CPS is that CIS is the lower level API that actually does the communication with UCM. It serializes your request across the socket and handles the response data that comes back packaging it up as easy to use objects. CPS leverages CIS as its backend to allow the portlets to communicate with UCM.
For an intranet application you have lots of options. For document management I would recommend a combination of the Document Library taskflow along with a couple of the CPS portlets (my workflow assignments, etc). To retrieve content to display as part of an intranet "site" I would leverage the Content Presenter taskflow.
If the content to be retrieved is Site Studio 10gr4 assets I would instead recommend that you roll your own simple content portlets. That is what we ended up doing at Fishbowl and have reused them to great affect implementing several intranet portals for different customers in a very short amount of time. • Retrieving WCM content from UCM and displaying on webcenter 11g

We will have a separate site designed using site studio for content contribution (WCM content). Presenting this content will be done on a separate site. The presentation site will be developed using Webcenter Framework 11g.
Our concern is how to retrive this WCM content from UCM to webcenter. Can we use CIS or CPS for this? What is right approach for this?
    -Pratap

    Hey Pratap,
One of the main advantages of 10gr4 is the new architecture that allows for the WCM_PLACEHOLDER service to be used to grab Site Studio content. In 10gr3 there are no out of the box services to pull an asset so you have to do a bit more work. The easiest piece to pull in 10gr3 is the value of a WYSIWYG element in a data file. That is one of the modes we implemented in our portlets, but is really only useful for pulling in legacy content into the site, you end up losing a lot of the template based rendering that you get when the page is rendered by the content server.
If I had to implement pulling in a 10gr3 based site and to get the full effect of the layouts and fragments I would first try to call the SS_GET_PAGE service directly and stream back the html. You may have to do some cleanup on the html that is returned to strip out things that won't work when you are inserting content that is part of a larger page in WebCenter. The second option I would try is to create a simple template engine on the WebCenter side that uses content that is in the Site Studio xml data file structure. However, this would be sort of a last resort since you would really be recreating work that is already done as part of Site Studio.
My recommendation is to try to migrate to 10gr4 if you can so that you can leverage the new architecture. It was designed with your exact use case in mind for reusing content in a different application while 10gr3 is still mostly based on the old 7.x Site studio architecture that really only allows for the site to be rendered by the content server.
So I'm not going to say that it cannot be done with 10gr3, it is just a lot more work.
    Hope that helps,

  • Integrating Adobe CQ5 with Oracle WebCenter/UCM and OIM

Hello, I'm looking for strategies to integrate CQ5 and Webcenter for following areas:
    1. Where CQ5 can act as page aggregator and portlets implemented on WebCenter side can be integrated on webpage which resides on CQ5. How the session information from WebCenter can be propagated and maintained in CQ5 side as well?
    2. Integrate CQ5 with OIM for security and authentication purpose.
    3. Integrate DAM and Oracle UCM for Assests access across DAM and UCM.
Any pointers in this direction would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Migrate... don't integrate.

  • WebCenter Interaction and Single Sign On

I have a scenario where I need to authenticate users who arrive at the public portal login screen (\portal\server.pt) before they sign in to the portal itself. My company has an architecture that supports Webgate to do single sign on activities; however, the supported version of Webgate is too low (10.1.2, aka v7.04). I have a short period of time, about two weeks, a bit less, to implement a solution and test it.
The architecture I currently have is:
    WebLogic Server 10.3.1
    WebCenter Interaction 10.3.1
I have a custom solution provided by my company that implements an HTTP callback method and hidden form fields that hit a servlet that then does the authentication and then sends the user back to the portal, with a header object that contains the username. I think implementing this solution is simple enough, but does it require me to build a custom portal page? Right now I am using the out-of-the-box portal page.
Excuse my vagueness, I am extremely green to this system architecture and require alot of guidance.
    Thanks!

First, grab a copy of "Fiddler" at - http://www.fiddler2.com/Fiddler2/version.asp
Then you can connect to your OWA server and in the Fiddler capture it will give you the POST paramters. ***Keep in mind, if you use HTTPS for OWA, go to Fiddler, Tools, Fiddler Options, Check the box labeled "Capture HTTPS CONNECTs and also "Decrypt HTTPS traffic".
You then take that information to the bookmark you have created in the ASA and then put the information in exactly as it shows from capture to the POST parameters.
So for username/password if you are using the same credentials as your webvpn login, your post would have CSCO_WEBVPN_USERNAME and password would be CSCO_WEBVPN_PASSWORD for example.

  • Integrating WebCenter Interaction 10gR3 with UCM Contributor 11gR1

    Hello,
I found there are services such as WCM_BEGIN_EDIT_SESSION to do it but I wonder what is really available within a WCI portlet.
    For instance :
    - does it give access to the placeholder menu (like in a site studio website) ?
    - does it highlight the contribution region too ?
    - if yes, does it give access to the same options like "switch content", "document info", "edit" ?
    - Is the edit form available from WCI like a site studio website ?
    - Is the FCKEditor working as well in an edit form from WCI as from a site studio website ?
    - when switching content, can we browse into UCM and/or local system ?
    - would you have already done such integration showing it is feasible ?
    Thanks for any clue !

I found answers in this thread :

  • Inbound Refinery and WebCenter Content link not convert doc into PDF

You may want to post this question in the WebCenter Content forum instead of WebCenter - Interaction, which is a completely different product.

  • How do I integrate Adobe Flex into Oracles Webcenter Interaction portal

We currently use Oracle Webcenter Interaction portal 10gr3 (ALUI Portal)... Does anyone know how or can provide documentation on how to integrate adobe flex into this portal.. Our portal is on windows but it is the java installation of the portal. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
    thanks
    Laura

While I'd still like others to chime in with anything they may know (or think), I've gleaned the following:
    1)
"Oracle will support ALUI for the next 9 years and no customer will be forced to migrate off of ALUI. The long term direction is to migrate key features of ALUI into Web Center. "
    2)
"Web Center will be the strategic portal offering. Customers looking to move to Web Center may get credit for their ALUI cost.
We are currently selling Web Center and ALUI as one single suite. So customers buying the suite don’t have to choose between one or the other and get both automatically.
If you are happy with the functionality in ALUI then it would make sense to stick with it till we have more details on migration path, etc."
    4)
Publisher : the next release should come out (eventually). The long term direction is Oracle’s UCM (Stellent) product.

  • How to read xml file present in the UCMS from  webcenter portal application

    Hi,
I'm new to webcenter portal and would like to know how to read an xml file which is present in UCMS 11g(contributors folder) from webcenter portal application.
    Thanks in advance

I guess I had mentioned that I want to read it via my webcenter portal app rather than login to ucms and searching it via url.
I want text labels and button names being stored in the xml file which I'm going to keep in the UCMS.
After reading that from the xml will be placed at appropriate locations like the button values and label feilds, so that we dont need to deploy entire app for this kind of simple changes.
Now can anyone provide some help with the api's related to this?
