UCS B200 M2 support

                   Hi All
I have a customer which has UCS b200 M2 and has 5 blade install i will use one blade to install the following :
1-  PUB CUCM 8.6
2- PUB CUC.
3- cisco unified presence.
all the above will be install in one blade and the other SUB cucm , SUB CUC and presence will be install in diffrent blade but in the same chassis.
My question  is it possible to install a SUB cucm and other virtual machine in same blade regarding to the support from cisco. or the blade must be only for cisco unified application as cucm and cuc.. mean no other virtual machin should be install...
Regards

Virtual Machines (VMs) are categorized as follows for purposes of this UC support policy:
3rd-party application VMs (or simply 3rd-party app VMs): a VM for a non-Cisco, application, such as VMware vCenter, 3rd-party Cisco Technology Developer Program applications, non-Cisco-provided TFTP/SFTP/DNS/DHCP servers, Directories, Groupware, File/print, CRM, customer home-grown applications, etc
Cisco does not support non-UC or 3rd-party applications VMs running on "Cisco UC Virtualization Hypervisor" or "Cisco UC Virtualization Foundation" (as described at Unified Communications VMware Requirements). If you want to deploy non-U / 3rd-party applications, you must deploy on VMware vSphere Standard, Advanced, Enterprise or Enterprise Plus Edition.
Each Cisco UC app supports one of the following four types of co-residency:
Full:
The co-resident application mix may contain UC app VMs with Cisco non-UC VMs with 3rd-party application VMs. The deployment must follow the General Rules for Co-residency and Physical/Virtual Hardware Sizing rules below. The deployment must also follow the Special Rules for non-UC and 3rd-party Co-residency below.

  • Red Hat Enterprise 5.2 on UCS B200 M1

We need to install Red Hat Enterprise 5.2 on UCS B200 M1, but could not find the driver for Qlogic CNA M71KR-Q.
    Any pointers or suggestions?

Check out the UCS Drivers iso file on cisco.com/support.  Download the 1.02 driver ISO and in there you'll find the Qlogic, Emulex etc drivers.
On a hunch, I checked the older 1.01e ISO and that only had drivers for RHEL4.8 and RHEL5.3.
You might need to use RHEL5.3

  • UCS 1.4 support for PVLAN

    Hi all,
Cisco advise UCS 1.4 supports PVLAN. But i see the following comment about PVLAN in UCS 1.4
"UCS extends PVLAN support for non virtualised deployments (without vSwitch ) . "
"UCS release 1.4(1) provides support for isolated PVLAN support for physical server access ports or for Palo CNA vNIC ports."
Does this means PVLAN won't work for virtual machine if VMs is connected to UCS by Nexus1000v or vDS although i am using PALO (M81KR) card?
    Could anybody can confirm that?
    Thank you very much!

Have not got that working so far...how would that traffic flow work?
    1000v -> 6120 -> 5020 -> 6500s
    (2) 10Gbe interfaces, one on each fabric to the blades. All VLANs (including the PVLAN parent and child VLAN IDs) are defined and added to the server templates - so propagated to each ESX host.
At this point, nothing can do layer 3 except for the 6500s. Let's say my primary VLAN ID for one PVLAN is 160 and the isolated vlan ID is 161...
    On the Nexus 1000v:
    vlan 160
      name TEN1-Maint-PVLAN
      private-vlan primary
      private-vlan association 161
    vlan 161
      name TEN1-Maint-Iso
      private-vlan isolated
    port-profile type vethernet TEN1-Maint-PVLAN-Isolated
      description TEN1-Maint-PVLAN-Isolated
      vmware port-group
      switchport mode private-vlan host
      switchport private-vlan host-association 160 161
      no shutdown
      state enabled
    port-profile type vethernet TEN1-Maint-PVLAN-Promiscuous
      description TEN1-Maint-PVLAN-Promiscuous
      vmware port-group
      switchport mode private-vlan promiscuous
      switchport private-vlan mapping 160 161
      no shutdown
      state enabled
    port-profile type ethernet system-uplink
description Physical uplink from N1Kv to physical switch
      vmware port-group
      switchport mode trunk
      switchport trunk allowed vlan all
      channel-group auto mode on mac-pinning
      no shutdown
      system vlan 20,116-119,202,1408
      state enabled
This works fine to and from VMs on the same ESX host (PVLAN port-profiles work as expected)...If I move a VM over to another host, nothing works...pretty sure not even if in same promiscuous port-profile. How does the 6120 handle this traffic? What do they get tagged with when they leave the 1000v?

  • Dose UCS B200 release 1.3.1 with M81KR support the Sanboot Win2K8 R2 SP1?

I have a  UCS blade B200 need to install a storage sanboot system Win2K8 R2 SP1. the HBA is M81KR, the current UCS manager release is 1.3.1p, and the adapter firmware is the 1.0.1. looks like the below picture
I check the Interoperability Matrix of 1.3.1, it seems only support the OS version Windows Server 2008 R2 w/Hyper-V.
so, my question is,  if I want to install a sanboot system Win2K8 R2 SP1, I should only update the hba firmware to 1.3.1p? or update the UCS Bios and UCS manager and hba adapter firmware both to the latest version 2.0.1?
    Currently,
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." will happen during installing the OS
who can give me some advise?
    thanks a lot

#1 - you definitely need to update your UCS Manager and adapter BIOS. You are more than 1 year behind.
You need to check a few things:
    1) If you using Virtual Media to install, make sure you re-mount the OS media and click the refresh button.
    2) Make sure the UCS Boot Policy has a matching LUN number to the LUN being presented by the array to the host.
    3) Make sure the target (array) WWPN in the UCS Boot Policy matches the array's WWPN that the adapter can see on the perspective fabric.
For #2 and #3, you will know if you have it right during the server POST when it initializes the M81KR - it will display the array's WWPN and the LUN ID. If it just pauses and never displays this, something is wrong in the Boot Policy. You will need to disable "Quite Boot" the server bios to watch Palo initialize and see these messages.

  • UCS C-series support for Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) HBAHP

    Hi Team,
Do we have a UCS c-series solution to support Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) HBAHP or anything like this?
Sample is from third party: SC08Ge Host Bus Adapter
    Reference:
    http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/adapters/sc08ge/index.html

    Jojo,
Currently we do not have a specific solution for serial attached scsi. The adaptors that we support can be seen at the following link.

  • Ucs chassis qos support

I  bought a UCS chassis with two blades that are 'qualified' for Cisco  Voice products (cm, ccx, etc)....     i decided to not buy the $20,000  worth of VMWARE enterprise pro licenses and the v1000 switch... since  the ROI is simply not there (I'd rather have 4 separate pieces of  hardware then spend that much money on software)...  anyway...   so now  my questions are:
    1. What QoS options are available (if any) on the uplink from the chassis to the 6120s and from the 6120s to my 4500 switch.
    2.  What Qos options are available (if any) on individual hosts inside my vmware.
    3.  Can I buy the v1000 switch (which i believe is a few grand) and get  some QoS without buying the stupid expensive vmware enterprise pro?
...or do i just return the chassis?
    Thanks!

    Terry,
UC on UCS deployment design considered the hardware features and UC software requirements
and concluded that there will be no congestion for the IP traffic until it leaves Fabric Interconnect.
So for the following traffic flow, we do not need additional QoS ( L2 COS ) configuration.
UC App > vSwitch > physical adapter > IOM > FI > upstream switch
However, if you have other virtual machines in the blade that contends for the bandwidth, then you environment might need Nexus 1000v or QoS configuration on the UCS.
Please refer following doc for additional information

  • Windows 2008 in UCS B200 Blade NIC VLAN problem

    Hello Experts,
I've installed Windows 2008 Enterprise on Bare-metal UCS B-200 M2 server with VIC M81KR Mezannine card. UCS Manager version is 1.3(c).
The Problem that I have is that I cannot define VLANs on the NIC adapter inside Windows. is this a problem with the NIC driver ?
( Other NIC cards in other machine for example, have Advnaced Tab in the network configuration where we can define VLANs ).
( in this situation, Windows is un-aware of the VLANs so all the traffic going out will be untagged and FI sending it to the native VLAN on the network).
Attached is a screenshot of the NIC properties in Windows. Your help is highly appreciated on this.
    Regards,
    Mohammad

Thank you for your answer Padma.
I have simple requirement for this to work. I have two blades windows installed on them and NICs having IPs from the range of VLAN 100 ( IP range : 192.168.100.x). Now I need to reach these two windows machines from other subnets ( subnet VLAN 2 for example / range 192.168.2.x ).
In this scenario, I cannot reach these two windows machines until I define VLAN 100 as native ( default ) in vNIC configuration in the service profile of the balde. ( I understand that windows is sending the traffic un-tagged and because VLAN 100 is the native VLAN in UCS manager, it will forward this un-tagged traffic to VLAN 100 where it is routed to VLAN 2 in our case ).
Do you have any other suggestions for other configuration for these windows machine to be reached from different VLANs in our network ?
    Thanks,
    Mohammad

  • UCS Mini B200 M4

    Hi,
Is Cisco UCS B200 M4 supported on UCS mini solution ?
When I check UCS B200 M4 data sheet below it says " The UCS B200 M4 Blade Server mounts in a Cisco UCS 5100 Series blade

  • CentOS support for UCS B and C series

    Hi,
as far as I Know, CentOS is not yet officially supported on Cisco UCS.
However, does anyone know will CentOS work on Cisco UCS B200 M3 and C220 M3 servers?
What is the situation wih drivers etc?
    BR, Mate

Agree with Kenny on this one but in saying that, I am sure it will work. You are just going to run a completely unsupported and tested configuration. I don't know what Cisco TACs response would be, vendors may give a "best effort" response if you open a case. Or they may just shut the door and say this OS is not supported, sorry we cannot help you. Is that an acceptable risk to your business? I mean you are already running an unsupported OS per se. You need community support and rely on your Linux administrators expertise. Don't forget CentOS is basically RHEL with some minor differences. You may even find that Cisco UCS drivers are already included in the CentOS image. Have you checked that?

  • Supported UCS devices

I am trying to position SCH at a customer that wants to know if it will cover all UCS servers or just limited to C Servers

    Hi Khosrow.
The UCS Manager (UCSM) supports Smart Call Home. Which means that all B-Series blade servers or C-Series rack servers that are managed by UCSM will be covered by Smart Call Home.
    More information is available here:

  • Does UCS Mini Support 2 Chassis configuration?

Hello, I have found into the Data Sheet that the UCS 6324 supports until 15 servers, 8 into the chassis and 7 direcct attached UCS C series.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-6300-series-fabric-interconnects/datasheet-c78-732207.html
the Cisco UCS 6324 Fabric Interconnect embeds the connectivity within the Cisco UCS 5108 Blade Server Chassis to provide a smaller domain of up to 15 servers (8 blade servers and up to 7 direct-connect rack servers).
But I have heards from a Cisco presentation that the UCS Mini can support till 2 chassis 5108 (one with the FI 6324 and the other one with FEX 2208XP, 2204XP, or 2104XP Fabric Extenders. But I cannot find documentation related.
Could you please confirm this point? There is any documentation?
Thanks a lot and best regards,
    Raquel

    True ! FCS + 3 months ?
However, I've seen many customers with classical UCS configuration and 2 chassis; Cisco offered and offers very attractive bundles, which makes such a low size entry attractive.

  • UCS ESX5.1 with VNX5300 unable to SAN-boot after installation

    Hi All,
We have a scenario here, which EMC support claim that they've see this elsewhere.
There is 1 units of CISCO UCS B200 M1 (Palo) with 4 Blades connecting to CISCO Fabric Interconnect 6120XP.
CISCO Fabric Interconnect 612XP has configured with UPLINK to Brocade Switch 5100B.
Meanwhile, VNX5300 is connecting to Brocade Switch 5100B.
    Findings:
    1. WWN of the Storage and Blades appear on SAN Switches
    2. Zoning between 4 Blades and VNX5300 done, initiator of Blades is not appear in UNISPHERE.
    3. Have to manually registered initiator for the Blades in the Unisphere
    4. Assign LUNS (VNX5300) to the Blades. Blades detected the LUNS.
    5. Installed ESX on boot LUNS. But when we wanted to boot up the ESX host, it shows LUN not detected & can’t boot-up the ESX host.
Highlighted issue and concern as below:
    1. Why WWN of the Blades not appear on UNISPHERE?
    2. Why during ESX boot up, LUN is not detected?
    Any suggestion..? Thanks!
    Rgds,
    Nazri

sounds like a zoning issue, WWPNs of vHBAs should show up in the Storage System Connectivity status window in Unisphere. For new hosts in a boot from SAN configuration you have to register them manually because there isn't yet an OS there to auto-register. This can be automated with naviseccli.exe.
Each ESXi host in a boot from SAN configuration will need a unique Storage Group and Boot LUN assigned to the storage group. The boot LUN host ID must match what is configured in UCSM on the boot policy.

  • Unity on UCS C210M1

I would like to know if there is official support for Unity (not
Unity Connection) on a UCS C210M1 server. There seems to be conflicting information in Cisco's documentation. Does anybody know if this configuration is supported officially, and what kind of server configuration is needed? Thanks.

Here is the doc which I have found:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6790/ps5748/ps378/solution_overview_c22-597556.html
Cisco UCS B200 M1 Blade Servers with third-party Fibre Channel storage area network (SAN)-attached disk arrays are supported.
Available applications include: Cisco Unified Communications Manager, the Cisco Unity®  application, Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Unified Presence, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express, Cisco Unified Contact Center Enterprise, Cisco Unified Customer Voice Portal, and Cisco Unified IP Interactive Voice Response (IP IVR).
VMware ESXi 4.0 is required. Application co-residency is also supported; refer to http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized  for details.
    • Cisco UCS C210 M1 General-Purpose Rack-Mount Servers with specific configurations of direct attached storage (DAS) are supported.
Available applications include: Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unity Connection, and Cisco Unified Contact Center Express.
VMware ESXi 4.0 is required. Application co-residency is not supported at this time; refer to http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized for details.
From this it shows: Cisco UCS B200 M1 Blade Servers is supported for Unity and VMware ESXi 4.0 is required.
Cisco UCS C210 M1 does not show that Unity is supported.
    So based on that
We refer to the VMWare requirements for Unity is Supported Platform list:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6789/ps5745/ps2237/product_data_sheet0900aecd802132ef.html
    Virtualization
Effective February 27, 2009, Cisco Unity 7.0 and 8.0 are supported on a VMware ESX 3.5 (or later) platform. The Cisco Unity on VMware solution relies on Cisco's customers to support and provide the VMware infrastructure and is recommended only for customers with significant expertise and investment in data-center virtualization. To get started, read the Design Guide for Cisco
    Unity Virtualization at: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/virtualization_design/guide/cuvirtualdgx.html.
Indeed a bit confusing at this point. If you have access to Cisco Account team (SE) that might be a good step to take next.

  • Poor Autodeploy Performance on UCS B-Series

"I have been rolling out Autodeploy to provision vSphere 5.0 U1 hosts in our environment.  We are running on Cisco UCS blades with full 10GbE connectivity within our datacenter fabric.  Our DHCP, DNS, TFTP and vCenter servers are all reachable over the 10GbE fabric, network and storage latency for these servers are well within tolerance and yet it takes 15-20 minutes to download the image and boot the server.  I realize that I am not pruning the ESX image, in fact I have taken the base image and added HA/FDM and Cisco vibs, but the image is still not huge.  The blades are running Intel Sandybridge with anywhere from 256-384 GB RAM.
I guess I just expected this to be faster.  It is considerably slower than booting from SAN.  Is my experience normal?"
I originally started this as a question on VMware's communities...  and the response I received from another user was that they were experiencing the same issue but only on their UCS blades, not other vendor's equipment.  So I pulled an old HP Proliant DL360 G5 off the shelf and ran a test.  The following times are from when the host starts the PXE process until ESX has finished booting:
HP G5 Rack  (1GbE, three switch hops)    < 3 minutes
    UCS B200 M2/M3  (10GbE, 1 switch hop)    Anywhere from 12-20 minutes.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Any explanation as to why, or how to resolve?
    Thanks!

    Hello Peter,
Does the blades have Cisco VIC CNA ?
There is known issue in PXE implementation which is tracked by following defect.

  • Setup UCS Auto-Deploy using PXE and dual vNICs

We are trying to set up Auto Deploy for UCS B200 M3 blade servers.  Our setup has the chassis connected to dual 6248 Fabric Interconnects.  We were successful in getting this to work when the blades were identified via MAC address configured on the DHCP server (Infoblox).  However, in trying to resolve the scenario of the server attempting to PXE boot via either NIC, thus having two different MAC addresses, this scenario could not be supported on the DHCP server (mapping two MAC addresses to one IP address).  Then we had the idea of using the GUID/UUID of the blade as a unique client identifier, as it is the same no matter which NIC is used.
We have tried to set this up, but have been unsuccessful.  The blade sends out its' GUID using DHCP option 97, but the DHCP server is only looking for the Client ID via DHCP Option 61.  We have not been able to determine how, or if, the blade server can send its' GUID via DHCP Option 61, and Infoblox tells us that their server cannot be configured to accept DHCP Option 97 as a client identifier.
Has anyone encountered this situation, and resolved it?  Surely this isn't a unique situation, having a blade server with two NICs.
Thanks in advance for your response.
    Ron Buchalski

    Hi Ron,
i am currently setting up an autodeploy environment. But i only use one nic per host for boot from san. Because of the autofailover possibility in ucs, i think i do not need a second nic.
Why do you use a second nic? Do i miss something or is it just because of the thinking to have a redundancy for management in vcenter?
