UCS B200M3 with XENServer 6.0.2

Hi all
Today we installed a cisco ucs b-series environment with B200M3 / VIC1240 in order to operate a XENServer 6.0.2 environment.
The whole UCS Installation was not a big deal, but the problem occured when we wanted to bring the different XENServer togehter in a Pool on the XENCenter. The message was: There was an error connecting to the server. the service contacted didn't replay properly.
We checked all the driver issues - but XENServer 6.0.2 is supporting B200M3 / VIC 1240 if you install the 2.1.1.29 Adapter Driver - we also installed the necessary Hotfix on XenServer. UCS is running 2.0.(2q).
So from my point-of-view it can't be a problem with the drivers because they are on the Supportmatrix from Cisco. But i couldn't find the VIC1240 on the Citrix HCL.
We also checked Interface Settings, VLAN, Connectivity, etc. -> all works fine.
Anyone has a clue what could be the issue?
Please find attached the output of the LOG from the XENServer - the message is not very informational.
Regards
Patrick

Smells like more of a Xenserver issue to be honest.   If you have IP connectivity, the drivers are loaded and functioning.  The clustering process is then responsibility of the OS.   I haven't done much work with Xen, but I would vouch you're good to go from a UCS side.  It does bother me that we list Xen as supported from our perspective including the VIC 1240, but Citrix HCL only shows the last generation Palo VIC.. Could be Citrix is just behind on updating their HCL - but may want to bring this up in your OS discussion/troubleshooting with Citrix if/when you engage them.
If anyone else has ideas they're welcome to chime in.
Regards,
Robert

  • ISE on UCS Platform with UC

We are looking to deploy ISE supporting 5000 devices and would like to use the Cisco UCS platform to host this. Looking at the spec required a C22 M3 would be sufficient; however we would also like to host some UC applications on the same server if resources allow.
Therefore we would like to deploy ISE on a C220 M3 server and connect the associated NIC to a DMZ. We would then like to deploy UC applications such as CUCM and CUPS on the same UCS server with a NIC attached to the internal network.
Can anyone foresee any issues with this configuration?
Also while the UC application would require a UC Foundation License (R-VMW-UC-FND5-K9) whould this also meet the requirements for ISE?

    Steward,
Just so you are aware that Cisco ISE is a ATP solution that can only be purchased through approved VARs. There is an HLD process that the VAR must submit on your behalf before the purchase is approved.
You mentioned connecting one nic to the dmz which is used for the ISE appliance, is profiling part of your deployment, if so then you may have issues with activating those probes. Also if you are using 802.1x then you will need to allow access for ISE to reach your domain controllers which could be spread across your network.
Keep these few items in mind before moving forward with any hardware purchase.

  • UCS integration with vSphere - invalid URI error

    Hi,
I am struggling to integrate UCS Manager with vSphere vCenter.
The vCenter extension is being exported from UCSM without any errors, but when trying to install the plugin via vCenter Plug-in Manager I am getting this error:
"Invalid URI: The URI is empty"
I've found this on the web, but this doesn't bring me any closer to resolving the problem:
    http://terenceluk.blogspot.com/2010/11/error-message-when-clicking-on-download.html
    Any hints?
    Regards,
    Radek

    Hi Radek,
So as long as the file is registered in the plugins within vCenter, and they show up in the list of plugins, then that is all you need to do. You do NOT need to click the "Download and Install" button as it will not work, as you have experienced. This is because it is an XML document used to enable and validate communication between UCS/Nexus 1000v and your vCenter server. There is no actual application that is executed and needs to be installed.
    Hope that helps to clarify
    Thanks,
    Michael

Yes, the DocWiki covers this on the Supported Applications page. It is worth mentioning that only there are specific hardware component requirements of the C200M2 for VTG support.

  • Citrix Xen Server on UCS-B with Palo Adapter

    All
I am attempting to install Citrix Xen server (tried 5.6 and 5.5) on a UCS-B series blade running the Palo Adapter.
During the install we are asked to install drivers.
I used "kmod-enic-xen-1.1.1j-0.x86_64.rpm" from virtual media and it stated no drivers were found.
I tried extrating this to .gz and further to .cpio with the same results.
Any input or direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Palo or CIsco VIC is not currently supported on XenServer 5.6, we are currently engaged with Citrix to add that support, timelines unknown at this point.

    Hello,
We bought 5 UCS C24M3 standalone servers for one of our customer with raid controller UCS-RAID9270CV-8I but the Supercap (battery) seems to be missing so only write through cache policy is possible (instead of write back cache policy) ==> result : pool performance on VMware VMFS...
How should I contact Cisco for this problem (I think of a forget during the factory assembly of the servers) ?

    Hi Experts,
We have IBM TotalStorage SAN16B-2 SAN Switch, & cisco UCS 6120 Fabric Interconnect, dint find any document for compatibilty between this.
This is a SAN switch with each port capable of delivering a throughput of up to 4 gbps.
Can we use this SAN switch to connect ucs Fabric interconnect????

  • How can integrate UCS Manager with ACS

Somebody have guidelines to integrate UCS Manager 2.0 with ACS 5.3 using TACACs
I have tried creating a TACACs Providers and a TACACs Providers Group, the In the Native Authentication i have changed the real from local to tacacs usin the provider group i've created.
In the ACS i have added the device and in monitoring viewer i can view the succesful log of authentication but the UCS Manager windows close before the authentication page

    Hi Shelley,
I was reading the document, but I have some doubts. What we need is to do the integration with Cisco Secure ACS 4.X Solution Engine 1113 Appliance. We need to identify a client for a name and not for IP Address. Can I do this with SM and ACS??.

  • UC on UCS RAID with TRCs best practices

    Hi,
We bought UCSs servers to do UC on UCS. The servers are TRC#1 240M3S, hence with 16x300GB drives.
I am following this guide to create the RAID (I actually thought they would come pre-configured but it does not seem to be the case):
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/virtual/CUCM_BK_CF3D71B4_00_cucm_virtual_servers.pdf
When it comes to setting up the RAID for the C240-M3, it is mentioned that I should create 2 RAID 5 arrays of 8 disks each, 1 per SAS Adapter.
The thing is that on my servers I apparently only have 1 adapter that is able to control all the 16 Disks. It might be a new card that was not available at the time the guide was written.
So my question is: Should I still configure two RAID 5 volumes although I only have one SAS adapter or can I use a single RAID 5 (or other) volume?
If I stick to two volumes, are there recommendations for example to put some UC apps on one volume and some others on another volume? Those servers will be used for two clusters, so I was thinking using one datastore per cluster.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts
    Aurelien

    Define "Best"?
It really comes down to what your requirements are, i.e what applications are you going to use, are you going to use SAN, how many applications, what is your budget, etc, etc.

  • Cisco UCS C220 with VIC 1225

    Hello,
We have Cisco UCS C220 M3 with VIC 1225 card installed. We connected only one 10G port of VIC 1225 to Nexus 5548UP switch. But I do not see this port on switch and in CIMI the status for this port shows Link Down. I wanted to to iSCSI boot from storage NetApp FAS2240 but since I don't see this port on my Nexus switch I am unable to do boot from NetApp. I tried both ports on VIC 1225 with same result. Please I need help in this matter. I know I am missing something very simple but can't figure this out.
    Thanks,
    Salman

    Hi Kenny,
    Here is the answers:
-What slot is this card installed in?
    Mezzenine
-How many CPUs does the server have installed? (1 OR 2 CPUs can make the difference)
    2x 2.90 GHz E5-2690/135W 8C/20MB Cache/DDR3 1600MHz
-Is the PCIe slot enabled in BIOS? << Let us know if you don't know how to check it from CIMC
I believe I did. Server>BIOS>BIOS advanced> PCIe (Let me know if this correct)
-Have you confirmed that the cable is good?
I have changed four cables. I am using SFP-H10GB-CU2M= Twinax cable.
-If the switch does not even see the port and CIMC says it is down, have you confirmed the switch port is properly configured?
CIMI says “Link Down” in VIC adapter General area. The switch interface config has only “switchport mode access” in default vlan 1.
-What is the firmware running on the server and the OS?
We upgraded the firmware with latest ucs-c220-huu-1.5.4-3.iso.
Let me share with you the complete BoM of the server:

  • Linux 2.6 kernel VM problem on UCS SP with linux KVM

                       Hi,
IHAC who configured  3 service profiles running the Linux-KVM virtualisation solution (ubuntu serveur 12.04 LTS).
He migrated Linux VMs from HP servers running the same Linux-KVM version to the service profiles.
Everything is OK with all linux VMs running a kernel version 3 (Freebsd 9.0 ou Ubuntu 12.04).
All VMs with a linux kernel version 2.6 (Freebsd 9.0 ou Ubuntu 12.04) have network problem on the Service Profiles (but work OK as-it on HP servers).
These VMs can only ping the VMs on the same Srvice Profile and the Linux-KVM server they are tied to.
They cannot ping the VMs on other SPs or machines out of the UCS solution (arp resolution problem)
If the customer updates a such VM to a kernel version 3 it works fine.
Unfortunatly he cannot do this update for all the VMs he's got.
    Any idea ?

I assume since you mentioned 'SP', you are using Service Profiles and this is some UCS B-Series or C-Series integrated solution.  Advise your customer they are implementing unsupported OSes and most likely denied supported from TAC.

  • Raid management on UCS 210M2 with ESXI 4.1

    Hi there,
I'm trying to figure out what is the best way to monitor the raid on an 210M2 with the megaraid card.  Currently I have install ESXI 4.1 with a windows 7 worksation.  On this workstation I have install the MSM but of course you can only see the raid of that workstation...  What I've read on the LSI doc is that you need to install some kind of "drivers" on the esxi console to be able to monitor the whole raid...  But with the limited options in the console shell of esxi, ( no rpm ), its impossible to install that driver ...
The question is how its possible to use MSM with ESXI 4.1 to monitor/manage the raid of the ucs210m2 ?
I've install the esxi 4.1 cisco iso
    regards

    Hello,
Based on what I have read, we do not need to install anything on ESXi hosts. MSM works with ESXi through CIM provider.
Refer to section .6.5.4.1 in the LSI doc. Also, here is the KB article from LSI
    http://kb.lsi.com/KnowledgebaseArticle16430.aspx
Make sure the requried network ports are open between the system running MSM and ESXi host.

  • Multihoming UCS servers with VPC between to N2Ks - Bandwidth Aggregation

It was unclear to me from the CIsco VPC doc on whether a VPC (going to 2 separate 2Ks) will aggregate both links, and how does the process work for load balancing.

Thanks for that reply. It makes sense. Also, since we are using VPC, I'm guessing that means we don't need to code any Spanning-tree portfast or other parms, correct? I say this because one of the consultants that set up our system, had spanning-tree parms coded eventhough the link was VPC.

  • Please tell me how to connect with FCoE UCS-mini and Nexus N5k (N5K-C5548UP-B-S32)

I have UCS 5108 Blade Server Chassis (with two B200 M3 Blade Servers inside and two FI 6324) connected to Nexus N5k switch through 4x10GE links.
I want to configure the two aggregated channels FCoE (vFC) from chassi to switch.
All instructions I've been seen refer to the fact that UCS-mini must be in the FC end-host mode, but UCSM 3.0 version does not support this mode, what shoud I do?
I set up following the instructions www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/nexus-5000-series-switches/116248-configure-fcoe-00.html
    But, after setup I have a fault on fabric: FCoE or FC uplink is down on Vsan 500;
And in Nexus: Vsan 500 is down (waiting for flogi)
When I do "show interface vfc 1" from Nexus CLI I see no 'Trunk vsans (up)', but
    'Trunk vsans (initializing)             (500)'
Unfortunately, I can't find technical notes for UCS mini (with UCSM v. 3.0), so may be You can promt any guides or suggestion for this?
