UCS Central - Making Boot Policy - SAN boot target Provisioning

Gents
Some objects is always related to the domains and need to be provisioned in global like
VLANs: but we can did it by Provisioning VLANs with UCS Central Using VLAN ID Aliasing.
VSANs: the same idea in VLAN ID Aliasing.
Boot Policy adding SAN boot target : what about this issue how can I provision it so I can configure it globally in abstract way then it will take targets depend on domain during associating the global service profile.

@Gmonroy
Thanks for support
But if I need to make a global Service profile temp so I can deploy SF from it in any domain, and if  I referenced this service profile temp to one boot policy so i need to unbind each service profile created from this temp to associate a different boot policy in each domain ? " I will lose the benefit of updating service profile template "
Or I have to create different template per domain ? " I will lose the key benefit of  centralizing Templates in UCS central"
Or there is any workaround to deply this senario.

  • SAN Boot Target-Cisco folks, please advise

    Hi:
Just want to know the difference of the following 2 configurations for SAN Boot for UCS with 2 WWPNs being presented from SAN Storage
Array: I know 1 will work, but how about Option 2????
Cisco UCS manual DOES NOT go into the details needed.
    1.
SAN Primary, SAN Target Primary- vHBA-A - Fabric A
SAN Secondary, SAN Target Primary - vHBA-B - Fabric B
    VS
    2.
SAN Primary, SAN Target Primary - vHBA-A - Fabric A
SAN Secondary, SAN Target Secondary  - vHBA-B - Fabric B
    Thanks.
    KP Sim

I don't think the system will let you introduce a secondary target on the second vHBA if you haven't defined a primary target for that vHBA.
SAN boot works as follows if you have a policy with 4 targets and 2 vHBAs:
    1. try primary vHBA, first (primary) target
    2. if that doesn't work, try secondary target on primary vHBA
    3. if that doesn't work, switch to secondary vHBA, primary target
    4. if that doesn't work, try secondary target on secondary vHBA

  • How to shutdown UCS central vm

How do you shutdown UCS central virtual appliance?  I have it running on a standalone ESXi machine and I need to shutdown the ESXi machine for some maintenance.  Since the vm doesn't have VMware tools installed you can't shut it down from vCenter and I'm looking at the cli configuration guide and I don't see any specific command for shutting it down from the cli.  Also, I don't see an option from the gui to shut it down.     I ended up just powering off the vm since I'm just playing around with it right now, but for future reference I was wondering what's the proper way to shut the vm down.

As a workaround until this feature is available, i did see a 'reboot' option in local management CLI.
Prior to rebooting, edit the VM properties under Options > Boot Options > Check Force BIOS Setup.  This will prevent the OS from reloading.  Then you can shutdown.
Once you power the VM back up, the BIOS check will be gone and the VM will load.

  • UCS Central 1.1.1a

    Hello,
I am using UCS Central 1.1.1a and have spun up couple of UCS Emulators to see how the UCS central works. I was able to register the UCS central on 2 UCS Manager domains. But these UCSM are not being displayed on the UCS Central GUI. Do I have to create any policy for the UCSM to show up in Central?
    Thank you!

Unfortunately, there’s a version lock compatibility issue.     UCSM 2.1.1 (and PE 2.1.1a) will only work with UCS Central 1.0.    UCS Central 1.1(released just yesterday) will only work with UCSM 2.1.2 --- and the corresponding PE, when it becomes available.   So for now, the only way to work with UCS Central 1.1 is going to be with physical domains, not emulators.
Please stand by as the new PE for 2.1.2 will be available shortly.
    Thanks,
      -Jeff

  • UCS Central 1.1.1a, LDAP, UCSM 2.1

    Hi All,
I have couple of questions regarding UCS Central deployment.
Customer has mutiple domains with variety of OS being installed per UCSM domain (VMWare, Redhat, Windows, Hyper-V, Oracle)  .
    1. Should I go ahead and create mutiple Domain Groups in UCS Central? Add each of the domain to respective DG later on? Or Should I just add all the UCSM instances to Org-root DG?
    2. Customer wants to deploy LDAP and since there are mutiple UCSM domains here, VMWare Admin should have access only to VMWare blades same follows to rest of the OS types. Does LDAP works with UCS Central 1.1.1a, UCSM 2.1? I have tested on UCS Central 1.1.1a, for some reason the third tab (Domain) doesn't list when I launch UCS Central. Am I missing anything here?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Best Regards,

    1.   Creating DG's can be done at anytime.    And domains can be moved between DG's subsequent to the initial installation --- though you should be aware that doing so may have service impact, since you are potentially changing policy resolution for multiple domains.    As a best practice, you do not generally want domains directly under the root DG --- use other DG's (or sub DG's).   Another best practice to minimize risk is to minimize domain movement between DG's.   So I'd recommend DG creation and domain placement initially.
    2.  LDAP works on UCSM 2.1 --- but there are some known limitations with UCS Central 1.1.1a.    Best Practice is to not put anything under the root DG directly --- use other DG's (or sub DG's).   Especially necessary for LDAP.   Never put LDAP configs under the root DG.    (Not clear what the "third tab(Domain)" is referring to.   Can you please post a screenshot or detail what you're expecting?)

  • I can't take ressources in global pool of UCS Central

    Hello
I try to use UCS Central to manage my differents pool (mac, WWN, UUID).
From Central I can't see local pool of UCSM !!! From UCSM, i can see global port i defined, but when i choose a ressource of global pool, i have en error : Resolving identifiers from UCS Central.
The central sees UCSM, UCSM is registred to Central, and UCSM sees the global pool but doesn't use.
I try to resign UCSM, to reinstall UCS Central but it's the same thing.
Are there any commands to check more communication between central an UCSM ?
    Thank
    Stéphane

    Thank Chetan,
From UCSM, the ping is ok with UCS central.
I want to check from UCSM the possibility of use global pools (ucs central).
From UCSM GUI, when I create a Service Profile, i can see global pools (mac, wwn, uuid), but when I try to used it, I have an error :
"UUID address assignment failed, possibly illegal UUID or no available UUID in the pool"
If i use a local pool, it's OK.
How can I debug this problem?
From UCSM CLI or central CLI, can I have commands that can give me more details about the global pools, and to see that global pools work properly.

  • Need to run fsck on UCS Central VM -- how?

We had a storage disruption event recently that appears to have flipped the root volume on our UCS Central VM to read-only. After rebooting the VM, I get an error message about needing to run a manual fsck due to filesystem errors on /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 (see attached screenshot), and I get dropped into a shell prompting for the root password. I can't seem to find any root credentials in the UCS documentation. Is there a procedure for repairing the filesystem and repairing the VM?

    Brad,
You'll need to open a TAC case.  We don't provide root/shell access to the VM externally.

    Robert

  • Rebuilding /re-registering UCS Central (MAC/WWPN issues?)

    Hello,
My Standalone UCS Central VM has failed and we have no backups!! I need to rebuild a new UCS Central server. The old UCSC VM had MAC and WWPN pools configured. Has anyone ever had to unregister a UCS Central server and register a new one into the same environment.
How will the existing environment deal with the registration of a new UCSC?
Could I build a new server and recreate the pools in the same format? (Would it create conflicts as the existing services have been allocated MAC and WWPN already from this 'new' pool)
    Cheers, KP

    Hi Walter,
Unfortunately, I need to install UCSC from scratch and register it with my UCSMs.
I intend on reusing the hostname and IP
Luckily, we have no global service profiles (only local profiles and templates) but we do allocate WWPN, WWNN, UUID, MAC via UCS Central. I believe these will be preserved when I unregister the old server.
I wanted to also recreate the above pools in the same format/same range but wanted to make sure the new UCSC didn't provide existing IDs consumed by local profiles only available IDs.

  • UCS Central - Cluster Setup Bug

    Hi,
just tried to setup a ha cluster on esx 5.x and datacore fc storage. The setup wizard doesn't parse correctly the vendor and/or product string on the rdm!
Therefore no shared disk will be found and the ha setup doesn't work.
Vendor string contains eight character "datacore" and product named "virtual disk". Seems legit.
If i change the vdisk inquiry string to somethings else like vendor "foo" and product "bar" the ha setup wizard finds the shared volume.
This workaround isn't acceptable because the inquiry strings are configured on the psp and nmp rules.
Please fix this tremedously failure on the setup wizard.

I think it has to do with the fact, that local pools in UCS manager can be configured to use sequential allocation.  For global pools in UCS Central, this feature is not (yet) available; therefore the allocation looks random.
UCS Central 1.2 (coming out next week !) will only allow sequential ID allocation

  • UCS Central: How Global Service Profile match DG

    Hi
I'm pretty new to UCS Central and I've got a rudimentary UCS Central question.
I wonder how Global Service Profiles match/relate to domain groups.
To what I've read so far we use different domain groups to apply different operational policies to differenent UCS systems.
How does this relate/interact with global service profiles?
Is there a way to make sure that some service profiles could be associated just to UCS servers belonging to one DG?
Or is everything which is related to global service profiles like MAC-adresses, policies and the service profiles themselves always at the root and therefore can always be applied to all UCS servers managed within one UCS Central installation?
    best regards
    Dani

    Hi Dani,
Global Service Profiles fall under the Organization structure.     And the Organization structure/hierarchy has no relationship/dependency to Domain Groups.
So limitting visibility of Global Service Profiles/Templates to certain Domain Groups --- no, you'd have to limit them within an Organizational context.
    Hope this helps,
           -Jeff

  • UCS Central unable to communicate with UCSM

We started using UCS Central .. Its very cool . I can add domains into UCS Central . I see pools of the domains I add in . I even see the fault Numbers at the top of the screen . What I cannot do is click on the faults tab or events tab of any Domain I add in . It makes UCS Central unusable .
The is happening with the defualt key ring and we created CA certificates also which doesn't solve the issue . It almost looks like its trying to connect to UCSM by IP rather then DNS name . I'm not sure why this happening . I will probably open a TAC case . I attached a screen shot of the error .
Hope someone has run into this .

  • UCS Central Inventory Status is stuck at "in-progress"

One of the UCS Domains connected to UCS Central is not updating it's inventory in UCS Central. In UCS Central it shows the Inventory Status is "in-progress" and the last refresh was several days ago.
I've have restarted the UCS Central VM and attempted the "refresh-inventory" command in the CLI, but the "Inventory Status" remains as "in-progress."
Another UCS Domain connected to UCS Central is updating properly:
We have three blades that UCS Central is not detecting which is preventing a Service Profile from associating.

The FSM Status in UCSM says "Success."  As I stated above it was registered fine and working fine for several weeks.
Now however the inventory in UCS Cental and in UCSM are out of sync.  Since it isn't seeing some new blades that were installed we can't add them to a sever pool or associate Global Service Profiles.
UCS Central shows the Last Refresh as several days ago (the screen grab in the orginal post.)  I believe it should be updating inventory every 10 minutes.  I have tried to manually refresh the UCS domain in UCS Central CLI with the "refresh-inventory" command with no luck.  I have also Suspended and Acknoledeged the UCS domain with no change.

  • UCS Central - Uplink Traffic Monitoring - Statistic reporting

    Hey guys,
today I want to start a little discussion about monitoring of uplinks and interpreting the results of the report.
In my UCS Central, I created a report for all my four FC uplinks FI-A:31-32 and FI-B:31-32 of my UCS. (see report in attached file).
So it says for TX (Delta) FI-A:31 10,61 GB. How I have to interpret that result?
    like that? 10,61GB in 30sec (30sec collection interval / 15min reporting interval)
    means: 10,61GB/30sec = 0,3537 GB/sec = 2,83 Gbit/s.
Sometimes the Result says 102 GB. So it would be 27,2 Gbit/s. That's not possible, because it is a 8GBit FC Uplink. oO
Can someone help me to interpret that correct?
    Many thanks
    /Hugo

No. You are speaking about SPAN sessions...I'm not speaking about that. I rather refer to having a feature as simple as having a graph of average bandwidth percentage occupation of last week for ethernet port 1/2 of Fabric Interconnect, for instance. We do not have such capabilities in UCS Manager and was wondering till what extent the above mentioned applications do have them??
