UCS servers with IBM's TotalStorage SAN16B-2 SAN Switch

Hi Experts,
We have IBM TotalStorage SAN16B-2 SAN Switch, & cisco UCS 6120 Fabric Interconnect, dint find any document for compatibilty between this.
This is a SAN switch with each port capable of delivering a throughput of up to 4 gbps.
Can we use this SAN switch to connect ucs Fabric interconnect????

It was unclear to me from the CIsco VPC doc on whether a VPC (going to 2 separate 2Ks) will aggregate both links, and how does the process work for load balancing.

OVM on HP BL685c G7 with Qlogic 8gb HBA, Brocade FC SAN Switch P2000 MSA G3

I have been trying to setup the above with the latest drivers from HP. OVM is running with all the nics but, unable to configure the HBA.
The HBA's are recognized by OVM and I can get its port_name but, unable to get its WWN so i can add them to brocade switch.
Question:
1/ Has anyone made this combination work?
2/ Are the Latest HP drivers compatible with OVM 2.2.1 and BL685c G7?

multiple ways to accomplish this. First try the "supported" way without having to install anything on the server.
With
cat /sys/class/scsi_host/hostX/info
You should be able to identify the HBA cards (where X is a number).
Second with this:
ls -l /sys/class/scsi_host/host*/device/fc_host*
You can see the "hosts" itself, and then simply display their information:
cat /sys/class/scsi_host/host2/device/fc_host:host2/port_name
cat /sys/class/scsi_host/host3/device/fc_host:host3/port_name
This should give you the WWIDs.
If this works... stop reading here... otherwise:
O.k. no for the "not so much" supported way:
In generall it is not recommended to install other drivers to the OVM server.
However I have done this successfully in the past (with the proliant support pack of HP) on other servers. You simply need to download the required proliant support pack (best the one for OEL).
Then download required/needed packets for the PSP installation (like the gcc) from the OEL CD (with the same "version" as the OVM kernel. OVM 2.2.1 has a OEL/RHEL 5.3 kernel, so we take the packages from the 5.3 OEL CD - you can also find them on public-yum.oracle.com).
Last "trick" the PSP to think it has a OEL (simply change /etc/redhat-release) and install the PSP.
Then you can work with the PSP tools and drivers.
Again: This is not recommended, because you should not install things into the hypervisor. This normally only slows all guests and increases the memory consumption of Dom0. But sometimes there is no other way...

Sharing data stores between BE6000 UCS Servers

Hi,
I have two UCS C220 M3 servers running Business Edition version 9.1.
The servers are in the same data centre and each host a CUCM server, Unity Connection server and Presence Server.
This is great as each application has two servers and so there is survivability it the case that one UCS server fails.
Now the customer wants an Attendant Console and has purchased the Cisco Unified Business Attendant Console which does not have a high availability option.
I have installed this on one UCS server where it is running happily. To provide some resilience what I am considering is turning off the CUBAC VM, copying its files to the other UCS server and adding it to the inventory of that server.
I have tested this by manually copying the files to my PC then uploading them to the second UCS server and it worked ok but took a fair time.
I was wondering if there are any ways to improve/automate this.
My first thought was whether it is possible to share the internal storage of the UCS servers with each other using some clever storage tricks (iSCSI, NFS?).
If not is it supported/recommended to add external storage (say a NAS) to the BE6000 servers and use this as a shared storage area?
If yes to the above is there a way to automate the shutdown, copying and restart of the CUBAC virtual machine on the first UCS server?
My other concern is about leaving a Windows Server VM powered off for an extended period. Is this a very bad thing as it will miss updates or is it something that Windows will deal with gracefully?
I realise that this is a bit wacky and a far better solution would have been to buy an Attendant Console with high availability built in to it.

Thanks for the responses.
I know what I am asking is far from ideal but this is the position that I have been put in by circumstances.
If I had been involved in the selection of the console CUBAC would not have been selected and I would not be in this position (I would probably have used Fidelus console with queuing provided by CUCM hunt groups).
Unfortunately I have to play the hand I have been dealt hence my questions about sharing data stores etc.
I acknowledge that I am stepping away from best practice but if anyone has input on my original questions I would be grateful.

IBM AIX power 6 on UCS servers

There is a DC environment, hosted on IBM blade servers, they have different OS's, one of the OS's is IBM AIX Power 6 which is hosting an Oracle Database.
We would like to provide a DC recovery site using Cisco UCS servers, before doing so, I want to be certain about below points:
IBM AIX power 6 compatibility with CISCO UCS servers?
If we decided to choose CISCO UCS blade servers, what are the limitations toward the virtaulization?
If we virtualize both environments, the current DC and the new DR, what kind of limitations we may face in terms of virtuatization features?

Under OS support, you don't see any support for AIX !
Power 6 is the IBM hardware chip archtitecture; UCS is 100% based on Intel chip set.

BE6K with 2 UCS Servers

I'm planning to deploy resilient BE6K using 2 x UCS servers.
Using the new ordering approach can I just order 2 of the standard BE6K UCS Servers(BE6K-ST-BDL-K9) along with the appropriate Business Edition licensing, or do I need to purchase a separate UCS server along with a single standard BE6K Server?

Hi Stewart,
Redundancy for BE6K is different than others as you should have a another BE6K box with same amount of licenses as main. As the licenses don't transfer to secondary server if primary fails but rest is all same.

Multicast clustering IBM servers with N7K and 2k

     i have two severs IBM are working as a cluster and connected to Fiber fabric extender 2K using VPC as per attached diagram
     two IBM server are woriking fine for network connectivity with N2k but the servers have a multicast named ( power HA 7.1) to work as acluster
      but i tried to configue multicat in N7K and N2k to server working as acluster but the servers are not working
     please advice me about the configuration in N7K and N2k to working IBM servers as a cluster .

One option is the IGMP querier:
config t
ip igmp snooping

          (or a good source address of the interface)
The other option is run PIM on the VLAN interface:
feature pim
vlan 2
ip pim sparse-mode
Both has the same purpose: combined with IGMP snooping, the L3 interface will flood the VLAN with IGMP queries that traverse the inter-switch links. As a result, the inter-switch links will be included in the snooping port list. In turn,
packets destined to 228.5.10.5 will be sent out the inter-switch link and reach the other server.
Without the IGMP queries, 228.5.10.5 packets will not be sent from one switch to the other as it is not in the 224.0.0.0/24 range.

Cisco Phone Control and Presence 8.6.1.1185 with IBM Lotus Notes 8.5.2 (Integrated Sametime Client 8.0.2) - No presence status visible

Hi community,
I am trying to integrate Cisco Unified Presence 8.6.1.10000-34 with IBM Lotus Notes 8.5.2 with the integrated Sametime Client version 8.0.2 via the Cisco Plugins 8.6.1.1185.
Phone control is working fine, whereas the presence status is not shown (= no handset symbol next to the Sametime user). When I look in the preferences of the plugin, I can see that the plugin has connected successfully to the CUCM (8.6.2.20000-2),whereas the connection to the CUPS has not been established.
The user id as well as the password are all the same on all systems. Here is a description of what I have configured via the ciscocfg.exe tool:
Feature Control:
- Enable Phone Status -> checked
- Enable Dial Using Cisco IP Communicator -> unchecked (not required)
- Enable Control Desk Phone -> checked
- Default Mode -> Control Desk Phone
Control Desk Phone Settings:
- Voicemail Pilot Number -> left blank (no voicemail)
- Cisco Unified Communications Manager
     - Servers -> IP address of CUCM
     - Read Only -> unchecked
     - Use as Default CUCM -> checked
     - Synchronize Credentials -> checked
          - Use Sametime Credentials -> checked
Use Secure Connection: -> not required
LDAP Phone Attributes: -> not required
Phone Status Settings:
- Cisco Unified Presence Servers -> IP address of CUPS
- Read Only -> unchecked
- Synchronize Credentials -> checked
     - Use Sametime Credentials -> checked
- Sametime User ID Mapping
     - Use Business Card Attribute -> MailAddress
     - Remove Domain -> checked
- Display Off-Hook Status Only -> unchecked
At the moment I don't see an error in the configuration, but maybe I am wrong. Could anyone please tell me what the error could be?

Servers and clients used:
1x CUCM 8.6.2.20000-2
1x CUPS 8.6.1.10000-34
1x IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Express Server 8.5.2
1x Sametime Entry Server 8.5.2 (on top of the Domino server)
2x IBM Lotus Notes 8.5.2 with integrated Sametime 8.0.2
2x Cisco Phone Control and Presence with Lotus Sametime (PCAP) 8.6.1.1185
2x Cisco Unified Personal Communicator 8.5.5.19839
Setup:
- CUCM, CUPS and CUPC are working fine, i.e. Desk Phone control via CUPC, as well as availability and presence status are working without issues
- IBM Lotus Domino server is the LDAP Directory, the Sametime Entry Server is installed on top of the Domino server and uses the Domino Directory
- User ID and password on CUCM/CUPS match the ShortName field and password in Domino
- The PCAP plug-in has been manually deployed to both Notes clients with the following configuration:
     - Enable Phone Status -> active
     - Desk Phone Control -> active
     - no credential synchronization for CUCM and CUPS, i.e. every user must fill the user details himself
     - Sametime User ID Mapping is implemented via the LDAP Attribute uid (which is equal to the user id in CUCM)
     - LDAP configuration filled in with details of the Domino server
Phone Control is working fine, also the connection to the LDAP server (Domino) is fine. However, when I type in the credentials for the CUPS server login, I can see (in Troubleshooting pane) that the user (pparker) is connected to the CUPS server for a short period of time and then gets disconnected. After that no connection is possible to the CUPS server, i.e. status is always disconnected.
I have collected the Tomcat (EPASSoap00010.log and security00010.log) logs via RTMT and compared them to the logs from the PCAP plugin. The relevant time period is from 15:14 to 15:17. In the Tomcat logs I can see that the authentication is successful (see attached files), however in the log of PCAP plugin I can see the following messages:

Actually we have UCS 6248 fabric interconnect - first twelve ports are enabled and same in Cisco UCS Manager.
But when more port will be active by expansion module then UCSM can manage that too or need any other licence for UCSM too?

UCCX HA and UCM on C240 UCS servers

We have a customer we will be proposing UCCX 10 for a very small call center. There will be a pair of C240 servers with UCM, Unity Connect - assuming 2x C240 servers with sufficient vm resources, is it possible to have the HA UCCX coresident on that platform or will an HA UCCX require its own two dedicated UCS C type servers?

Yes the UCS Virtual Machine Placement tools will give you a very good idea what size servers will be fine for the implementation as suggested by heath

How to create reports servers with the same name in two nodes in Reports

Greetings
We are migrating Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4) to a better hardware infrastructure with high availability. We want to provide 2 new Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4) in High availability and we want to avoid modify the existing forms and reports code, but the code is looking for a specific reports server name when calling reports, but I couldn't create the same reports server name in the both oas machines, I could create the reports server in only one node. I want to create a reports server with the same name in both nodes but it is not possible. I know that there is a procedure to do that in 10.1,2 (Note 437228.1, How to Create Two Reports Servers With the Same Name in the Same Subnet) but I couldn't find the equivalent procedure in 9.0.4.
Anybody kwows how to create a reports server with the same name in two nodes using 10g (9.0.4)

Hello.
I applied the patch 4092150 on my oas 9.0.4.2 and I modified my rwnetwork.conf file changing the port to 14022 by following the note "How to Create Two Reports Servers With the Same Name in the Same Subnet? [ID 437228.1]" but I am facing the same error rep-56040 "server already exists in the network".
When I run osfind command I get the following information (My reports server is senarep and I want to create it on SNMMBOGOAS10):

2 Front End Servers with reporting enabled in topology but only one server shows reports

We have 2 Front End Standard pool servers with resiliency enabled between them. The monitoring service is configured in the topology so that both Front End Servers point to the same monitoring database. We have half our users homed on 1 Front
end and half the other users sitting on the other Front End. In the Reports we can only see information on Audio calls made from users that are sitting on our Primary Front End Pool Server however we cannot see call information from users that are sitting
on the other front end server?

We have applied the backend updates and verified the config by running Test-CSDatabases cmd-let . I ran enable-cstopology and ran bootstrapper.exe and rebooted both Front End Servers, however we are still unable to see monitoring data of users
homed on our second Lync Front End server.

Is it OK to have two SBS Servers with same name, on different subnets but connected over a VPN?

Hi Everyone,
I'm just about to connect up two SBS 2011 Servers with the same server name but on different subnets & domains over a VPN.
So for example both servers will have the name Server01, one would have an ip address of 192.168.85.5, the other 192.168.86.5, they both then would be connected over a VPN.
Can anyone foresee any issues with this configuration, like DNS & DHCP requests, adding new machines to the domain, mapping drives etc.

Thank you for your responses. I understand that this is an unusual situation. Basically I've recently taken over the IT support for this client. The client has just had a new phone system installed
& are asking if they can speak to each office internally, which can easily be done once I setup the VPN.
However I noticed whilst looking at this further that the Server names are the same, hence my question?
Am I right in saying that providing the workstations have a trust relationship with their own domain controllers through their individual domains on separate subnets, that hopefully there shouldn't be any DNS issues between the two domains and Servers?
I could build a new VM if you feel it would be better practice to do so?
