UCxN 8.x Directory Handler

Is is possible to have voice enable directory handler and just say first name. It seem like it is set to require first and last name. I would like to have it use either or.

The search criteria is based on what is shown as the users
"Display Name" so you could put only firstnames as that
entry but it would limit the search if there was any name overlap
We've even tested putting the user extension/DN in that field and it works
as described.
Voice Enabled
(For Cisco Unity Connection systems with the voice-recognition option only). For this type of directory handler, callers say the first name and last name of the Connection user that they want to reach, or enter an extension by saying the individual digits in the extension. In addition to searching by first and last name, the voice directory handler includes alternate names in searches. Callers can narrow down the search by saying the name and city or department of the user (or both) if these fields are defined on the Edit User Basics page in the user profile.
Connection users who are listed in the directory are available to outside callers as names that can be reached. Administrator-defined contacts are only available to Connection users who are signed in to Connection, and user-defined contacts are only available to the Connection users who defined them.
Note that for this type of directory handler, users cannot be accessed by using directory handlers unless they have a display name specified and the List in Directory check box is checked for them on the User Basics page.

Configuring Unity Directory Handler for President to Secretary

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out how to do this and I'm pretty much stumped. We've got a directory handler configured in Unity for people to type the Last Name, First Name so they can find the user they wish to reach. This is based off of the voicemail accounts and our President has her voicemail hidden from the directory, but recently she states she wants to be listed in the directory but have it go to her secretary and not her. How would I go about achieving this? It seems the alternate names are there but only work for when the directory handler is voice enabled which we don't utilize.

Easiest way to do this is to create a new user that has the same first/last name as the president, but an undialable extension (think 20 character long string no one would accidentally dial), have it listed in the directory but under the Message Actions settings for that user have it set to relay the inbound voice messages to the SMTP address of the secretary. You can also, of course, setup the transfer string for that dummy user to ring the secretary's phone as well if that's what you want to happen...
of course since this user is listed in the directory when employees go to send her a message they will find this user as well which may or may not be what you want (not sure if she's hiding from external or internal users). If the desire is for the "real" user to be found internally but not be found by external calls you can tuck that dummy user into a partition of it's own and create a search space that includes the existing partition and this dummy partition and have that used for the directory handler so outside callers will reach them using this mechanism - employees are part of the standard partition and will therefore not find the president by name as is the case today.
or vice versa if the other way is what they want...

UC Voice enabled directory Handler

I'm trying to setup a voice enabled directory handler in Unity connection 7.1.3.
I have all configured and seem to work ok except one issue.
I can only call subscribers by Name, i can not call ext and other numbers example outbound calls. when i try to call i get "you can not call that number....."
Any idea to what it could be?

Default directory handler greeting is not playing

I created a directory handler for a site in unity. Added user in the same site with specific user template. Added a CTI RP in call manager with the same directory handler extension.
Now when I am calling the directory handler number and it is saying 404 mailbox not found please record your message etc..
While it should play "spell the first and last name 7 for Q 8 for T and then press pound"
This message is not playing. Anything I need to check to resolve it.

Instead of putting a DN directly on the Directory Handler try creating a new Call Handler with that DN (same as the CTI RP that is forwarded to VM). Then for the Standard Greeting on the Call Handler select Callers Hear Nothing and set the After Greeting action to go to the Directory Handler.

Scripting UCCX 9to Unity Connection 9 Directory Handler

My customer wants the voice enabled directory handler in Unity Connection 9.x but they do not want the "if you know your parties extension, you may dial it at any time" part. My question is, is it possible to create a UCCX script to answer and provide a menu that, among other things, forwards the call to the directory handler but hits the 4 key to go directly to the "who do you want to call?" prompt so the caller never actually hears the part about knowing your parties extension?
Yes is seems petty and trivial however....

Sure. You an also build customer call handlers and directory handlers in Unity and record any prompt you want, so not sure why you would want to do it in UCCX unless you have some more advanced requirements, i.e. massage digits, lookup stuff via XML, DB, etc.

Dialing extension from a Directory Handler

We have configured a unique directory handler on our Cisco Unity server to allow incoming callers to search from a directory. However, when he selects an employee from the directory, when it dials it goes straight into his voice mailbox. Is there a way to configure the directory handler to forward the call to the phone for the employee they select rather than straight into voice mail? Thanks for your help!

You need to update the transfer settings for each Subscriber to ring an extension vs. go directly to greeting. If you want to update all (or a number of) Subscribers for this, you can do that using Bulk Edit. For an individual Subscriber, this option is under the transfer settings.

Route straight to System Directory Handler

Hi. Im trying to figure out how to route calls directly from a user calling an extension to a System Directory Handler. eg: user calls dn -> directory handler answers -> the user can search the directory for other users.
I dont want voicemail or a call handler. Is this possible? How exactly is it done if possible. Ive tried different setups and nothings worked the way i want.
Im using Call Manager 8.6 and Unity Messaging 8.6.

Still having issues with calls going straight to the DN's voicemail.
eg:
New User DN = 1234 w/ mailbox
Created a Direct Routing rule with the following attributes:
-Dialed number = 1234
-Active rule
-Send call to AD
-ln order of Precedence new rule is listed before other Direct Routing Rules
When I call 1234 it still goes to the generated voicemail box. What am I missing? Is it somehow not matching 1234 when calling in?

Voice enable directory handler

After setting up a voice enabled directory handler, when you call it and give the persons name, it does not transfer back to cucm to that persons extension. It just drops the caller to that persons VM box. My ports are enabled to make out bound calls. I do not see where you can release to switch like you can from a normal call handler. Shouldn't this work? I'm I missing something

This is controlled by this user setting;

Transfer Calls To:
Greeting
Extension
On the User> edit> Transfer rules
You can set this on the User template for future users and use Bulk edit
to change for existing users

Scenario:
Our president is not set to be listed in the phone directory for Unity 7.
Is there a way to tie his dial by name to an assistant. So instead of not coming up in dial by name, it’ll direct to his assistant instead?

Have you tried putting in an alternate name on the assistant's subscriber entry in Unity?

Air: Two questions about directory handling

I'm currently working on a file browser in Air 2.0.
Is there a way to get the name of a drive (for example the name of the inserted cd or the name of the C: hard drive that you can enter manually)?
And the second question is:
How can I determine if a folder has another folder inside? (I want to show a directory tree and reading and checking the content of every folder takes too much time. The FileSystemTree class simply assumes that every folder is a branch, but that leads to empty folders that can be opened.)

Ok. I figured out how to get the name of a drive: you simply got to use the new StorageVolume classes (StorageVolumeInfo.storageVolumeInfo.getStorageVolumes()) and you got the name and other properties.
The other problem is still unanswered. So I got to check the content of a folder to be sure that there is a sub folder.

I think we can have domain name in non english languages also. How active directory handles it.

This actually isn't controlled by Active Directory but by the core operating system and its language packs.

41 seconds to open a directory...

We are about to run a Pilot Project and are experiencing very long response times.
We have loaded 111,175 Files under 12,372 Directories for a total of 6.55 GB.
The directory structure is:
/HOME/MDDM
/A, /B, ...etc for the 25 letters of the alphabet
/A/Andrew
/A/Armstrong ... etc 1 folder per person
and under each person there are 4 subfolders.
Opening /MDDM takes 14 secs (only 1 user connected, using FTP)
Opening /MDDM/A takes 41 seconds! (it contains 106 "names" subfolders).
We are running Oracle 9i DBMS and 9iFS off a single 1.6GHz Pentium CPU under Windows 2000 (Oracle text is turned off for now but will be activated later).
It also appears that it is directory navigation/creation that takes such a long time (it takes 20+ seconds to create a new directory).
- Is there a way to optimize directory handling?
- If we are stretching the server, what type of configuration should we look at ? We want to start with 15 users (and will hugely scale to tens of thousands of users if successfull).

Setting up Directory Handlers under Cisco Unity Connection

Good Day All,
I am in the process of setting up directory handlers for Cisco Unity connection.
When I dial the extension for the directory handler ; I hear the default Cisco Unity connection greeting instead of being prompted for the search.
Can anyone shed any light on why this is happening?

Of course , that was right. I worked it out in the end.
I was trying to copy the configuration from an older version of CUC and basically added an un-needed call forwarding rule under the Directory Handler. As soon as I removed it; the directory worked normally.
The other thing I learned last weekend was that the order of the routing rules is important.
My directory had the first priority and it was causing people who wanted to leave a voicemail for other users to get the prompts for the directory.
