Udev keymap unresponsive/not working
Hi,
I don't seem to get, how to use udev keymaps in a proper way and would appreciate any help on the subject.
I'm trying to get the Fn keys working on a samsung series 9 laptop I recently bought which makes this also a laptop issue but actually it's more about how udev keymaps work in general.
In /lib/udev/keymaps there already existed a "samsung-series-9" file and to keep it simple I'm just trying to get 1 of the Fn keys working that's not working properly right now which is the one turning the display brightness down, or in my case Fn+F2.
So to get the necessary key code I used the udev keymap tool:
# /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event0
Press ESC to finish, or Control-C if this device is not your primary keyboard
scan code: 0x89 key code: brightnessdown
scan code 0x01 key code: esc
In this example I pressed Fn+F2 to get the keycode which already and correctly seems to be "brightnessdown" which is exactly what I want.
Then I altered the already existing keymap and release file
/lib/udev/keymaps/samsung-series-9
0x89 brightnessdown # Fn+F2
/lib/udev/keymaps/force-release/samsung-series-9
# list of scancodes (hex or decimal), optional comment
0x89 # Fn+F2 brightness down
...and left the rule files untouched since they already contained:
/lib/udev/rules.d/95-keymap.rules
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}=="[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*", RUN+="keymap $name samsung-other"
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}=="[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*", ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}=="*SX20S*", RUN+="keymap $name samsung-sx20s"
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}=="[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*", ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}=="SQ1US", RUN+="keymap $name samsung-sq1us"
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}=="[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*", ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}=="*700Z*", RUN+="keymap $name 0xBA ejectcd 0x96 keyboardbrightnessup 0x97 keyboardbrightnessdown"
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}=="[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*", ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}=="*700T*", RUN+="keymap $name 0xAD leftmeta"
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}=="[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*", ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}=="*90X3A*|*900X3*|*900X4*", RUN+="keymap $name samsung-series-9"
/lib/udev/rules.d/95-keyboard-force-release.rules:
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}=="[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*", RUN+="keyboard-force-release.sh $devpath samsung-other"
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}=="[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*", ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}=="*90X3A*|*900X3*|*900X4*", RUN+="keyboard-force-release.sh $devpath samsung-series-9"
I think the product_name regex should work, because when I cat my product_name I get this:
# cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_name
900X3C/900X3D/900X3E/900X4C/900X4D
This is what I did, but unfortunately it's not working. What am I doing wrong?
I then tried another key, just to eliminate failure potential and picked the one which turns the keyboard backlight down, Fn+F9 in my case.
This resulted in:
# /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event0
Press ESC to finish, or Control-C if this device is not your primary keyboard
got scan code event 0x97 without a key code event
scan code 0x01 key code: esc
...and here I don't know how to continue at all.
So thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi there,
this time I want to change 100% from windows to linux and i found archlinux to be a really nice system.
I like it "the arch way"
1) I followed the beginner's wiki and choose those xf86-input-evdev 2.3.2-1 drivers.
I set the 10-keymap.fdi file
<merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">de</merge>
<merge key="input.xkb.variant" type="string" />nodeadkeys</merge>
</match>
</device>
</deviceinfo>
The problem is, that the layout doesn't change to 'de'
I put
setxkbmap de -variant nodeadkeys &
into my.xinitrc, but this is not a good solution, because when logging in with SLIM there is still the english layout (e.g. for passwords with an "y" i have to press "z" because y and z are swaped in de / en layout .)
So what can I do? Is my 10-keymap.fdi somehow wrong?
2)
I would like to use my windows ntfs partitions in arch, so I installed ntfs-3g. Manual mounting with "mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sd.. /mnt/... " works, but how can I manage that arch mounts everything it finds automaticly on startup and while running (e.g adding an usb drive)?
I installed "hal" but nothing is mounted on startup (/mnt is empty?)
3)
I saw there is a "netfs" daemon in my rc.conf
I googled it and I read it is for unix network.
When I install samba later, should I remove it then? (samba can do windows and unix both right?)
4)
I use openbox (and would like to continue using it). Is it possible to make windows "snap" to the edge and take half screen like in Windows 7 ?
And are there any commands or something like that to rearrange windows on the screen, for example "show all windows side by side" or "sorted" ?
This is my rc.conf

replace ...
hi
thanks, it worked!
2)
use udev rules or autofs.
are udev rules and autofs two different ways of automounting devices?
i'm not shure, but i think i read on beginners wiki somewhere that hal automounts my drives?
hal, udev, autofs.. i'm confused
hm i read http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Udev and created those files (with content) as they are written in the wiki
/etc/udev/rules.d/11-media-by-label-auto-mount.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/10-my-media-automount.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/11-sd-cards-auto-mount.rules
sadly nothing happend (i didnt see any mounted partition in /media or /mnt.. after reboot)
i know that
ls /dev/sd
sda sda1 sda2 sdb sdb1
those should be my windows partitions
did i miss somethingor should i better try autofs?

IPOD model A1059 appears frozen and is unresponsive to all click wheel entries. Reset does not work. Does not show up in ITunes or in Windows Explorer. What is the problem and is there a fix?
If you are unable to reset the iPod (assuming the hold switch is not in the On position either), then you'll have to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then connect it to a charger and leave it to charge for a couple of hours.

UDev rules not working for MidiSport 2x2 usb midi device
I installed arch a couple of months ago and am loving it so far. Any problems I've had so far have already been solved in the forums, but this one's really got me. I have a MidiSport 2x2 that I want the firmware to be loaded on everytime I plug it in. I installed (there's not an arch package) a package that is supposed to do just that. (It's called midisport-firmware-1.2.tar.gz). However, the package seems to be out of date (2006) and I even had to modify a couple places in the configure script to get it to work with current program revisions. However, once installed, it does nothing. It installed firmware files and udev rules for the device into a couple of directories. When I run the command that is supposed to load the firmware, it works fine. But for some reason, (I even checked the udev kernel log) it's like the event isn't even being triggered. Here's part of the original file that came with the package that's supposed to load the firmware:
# midisport-firmware.rules - udev rules for loading firmware into MidiSport devices
# DEVPATH=="/*.0" selects interface 0 only
# (some udev versions don't work with SYSFS{bInterfaceNumber})
# MidiSport 2x2
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", DEVPATH=="/*.0", ENV{PRODUCT}=="763/1001/*", RUN+="/sbin/fxload -s /usr/local/share/usb/maudio/MidiSportLoader.ihx -I /usr/local/share/usb/maudio/MidiSport2x2.ihx"
# vim: ft=conf
And here's what I modified it to in an attempt to make it work:
# MidiSport 2x2
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="0763", ATTR{idProduct}=="1001", RUN+="/sbin/fxload -D /dev/%k -s /usr/local/share/usb/maudio/MidiSportLoader.ihx -I /usr/local/share/usb/maudio/MidiSport2x2.ihx"
I would really appreciate help from anyone who knows about this kind of thing, as I can't figure out what's going wrong. If it's something wrong with the config, please let me know. Actually, some HAL events popped up when I was testing this out. Is it possible HAL is blocking the udev event somehow?Hi,
The firmware files must be put in /lib/firmware so they can be found by the kernel. Are they being put there? -
VMware 5 not working with Arch udev
Okay I am having an issue running VMware 5 in Arch using udev. I can get VMware to install and run in window mode, but the moment I go full screen I get an error stating that it cannot open tty0. On this computer I have the devfs=nomount added to grub.
On another computer I did not add devfs=nomount so I am using devfs instead of udev .. it works perfectly .. also in full screen.
I looked in the /dev directory on the system using devfs and found that tty0 is a link pointing to vc/0 so I thought that if I go to the udev system and just ln -s /dev/vc/0 /dev/tty0 it would work. It ends up going horribly wrong!
I have turned OFF udev on my first system and verified that it works when I mount devfs. Since udev will eventually replace devfs I would like to get it working with udev. Anyone have a clue? The udev rules file is default btw from a new install if you are wondering.johnr wrote:
do you have a customized .rules file in /etc/udev/udev.rules/ ? You should have a line like this:
KERNEL="tty[0-9]*", NAME="vc/%n", SYMLINK="%k"
I have VMware 5 working using udev, and it will work in Full Screen Mode. Hope that helps.
That is wierd. I looked at my udev.rules file and had this:
# tty devices
SUBSYSTEM="tty", GROUP="tty"
KERNEL="tty[0-9]*", NAME="vc/%n"
KERNEL="ttyS[0-9]*", NAME="tts/%n", SYMLINK="ttyS%n"
KERNEL="ttyUSB[0-9]*", NAME="tts/USB%n"
All I did was add SYMLINK="tty%n" to the line and it worked fine. Funny thing is, this is the way it looks on all of my installed computers. Is it because I enabled testing? -
CUPS not working, due to wrong udev rules.
Hey everyone,
i got a problem getting my Brother DCP-145C (Printer & Scanner) to work.
I already did a little research and found out that the udev rules aren't working out, i tried to fix it according to this thread
So here are a few outputs, that hopefully help:
Here is the problem, the printer should be in the group lp:

I did find a message on VersionTracker.com which included a link to the uninstaller:
<http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157>
I uninstalled using the utility and deleted any flash related files/folders manually and reinstalled the beta. This did not help.
I ran the uninstaller again and installed the previous verion (9,0,47,0) and all is well again.
Thanks!

I have an older PC (so it's not moving much...), and I'm trying to set up wireless connection trough a USB wireless adapter (Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501USB Wireless Adapter).
I have the correct drivers installed, and everything set up (doulbe checked of course).
The wireless setup during boot-time does not works, and prints the error message
Could not associate $1 - try increasing WIRELESS_TIMEOUT and check network is WEP or has no security
If I run iwgetid immeadiateley after login, I get the following output:
$ iwgetid wlan0 -ra
00:00:00:00:00:00
On the other hand, if I try a
sudo /etc/rc.d/network start
after I log in, it works flawlessley.
I've tried the following:
--> setting WIRELESS_TIMEOUT to 10 seconds, does not works (only after boot)
--> double checking the setup lines
--> reading the /etc/rc.d/network script, and executing the commands manually, it works
$ sudo /etc/rc.d/network stop
$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid BodorWLAN key s:wikey
$ sudo iwgetid wlan0 -ra
[the MAC-ADDRESS of wlan0, differring from 00:00:00:00:00:00]
--> stopping and starting the /etc/rc.d/network script, it works
--> editing /etc/rc.d/network to print out the used varialbes and more verbose error messages (I've restored it since then, so I cannot post the results, all seemed to be ok.)
/etc/config.d/wireless:

Note: I modified sensitive information (passwd, stb.)
I'm running out of ideas, since the network script appears to be working always except at boot time.
Last edited by dragonfi (2010-06-11 15:44:52)Activating the usb hooks in the ramdisk did not done the job, as the network demon only runs late in boottime (maybe I'm just being imprecise, i'm meaning the part, where it already entered the final runlevel).
On the other hand, I did tracked down the problem, and I beliveve it's some kind of desing-flaw in the wireless USB utility. (Or I'm just not aware of a certain feature in it.)
I modified /etc/rc.d/network to resend the iwconfig to the device after the 2 second sleep, and it seems to work sometimes.

My only question now is that how could I achieve the same solution in a more elegant way, I'm a bit confused, because the above script does the exact same stuff that my modified /etc/rc.d/network would supposed to be doing.

I've come to Arch to find out more about the underlying kernel, etc, but (this is in a VM) I can't seem to get X to work properly, or more specifically, GNOME.
startx loads a bare X server, and through Xterm I can manually load metacity/mutter and gnome-panel. gnome-shell and GDM do not work.
One error i suspect is causing this:
Window manager warning: 0 stored in GConf key /desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/cursor_size is out of range 1 to 128
Guest additions is installed (through pacman).
Any know what might be happening?

HELP: iPhone 6 Keyboard/Touch Screen Not Working
Hello.
I recently acquired to an iPhone 6, which has been working properly for the last two weeks. Today, my keyboard/touch screen stopped working properly. When I am typing in iMessage, or trying to compose an email, enter a URL, or anything else that requires my touch keyboard, my "123" button that switches to numbers, punctuation, and special characters does not open. I updated my software to iOS 8.3., which switched to a new and "improved" emoji keyboard, but I did this after my keyboard had already become unresponsive. If I click on the emjoi keyboard icon to switch over, the "ABC" button to swtich back to QWERTY is unresponsive. This is REALLY frustrating! The phone is two weeks old, and I cannot use to for a huge chunk of functionality.
It's not a dead spot on the touch screen. When I am not trying to access the keyboard, that little bottom left corner works fine to open/use my Phone app.
I really don't want to reset my phone. Any other ideas?
I made a Genius Bar appointment for next Wednesday 4/15, but that seems like an eternity from now.
Please help!To make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using any backup data afterwards. Set up the rest of the personal settings manually and test the Touch Screen . If it still does not work, this is a hardware issue and the phone has to be serviced by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider:

Some Videos and Games Do Not Work, Mac Snow Leopard
This is a problem I have actually had for a while, but it never really affected much that I considered important. Now it is just getting annoying.
Basically, certain video players and online games do not work. Most video players outside of YouTube will not work. The player will load, but the video never does. For example, the most recent video I have had trouble with is the Nickelodeon video player for The Legend of Korra. When I try to watch that, I get a black box, and a “Loading” type image pops up, swirls around once, and then disappears. After that, the whole thing becomes unresponsive. This is typical of many, but not all, video players I have encountered on the web.
I am not sure if it is related, but I have also had trouble with various games. Often time, they will work fine until reaching some transition point, such as the end of a level, and then they will become unresponsive. A good example here is the game Bloons Tower Defense 4. This is a game I know was responsive on my older system. But now, when it loads the level, it freezes up before loading the available towers to place and becomes otherwise unresponsive.An example is shown below. The top-left question mark box in the right-hand sidebar should reveal a dart monkey, and my starting money should be filled, but instead the game hangs up. I have had similar hang-ups on a number of games, so I am certain the problem is not just with this game.
As I said, I have had this problem for a while now. I have upgraded both Flash and my browsers a number of times since they started. I have these problems in all my browsers (Safari, Opera, Camino, Firefox), so it seems to be a problem with Flash. I have also tried uninstalling and re-installing flash and disabling all other browser plug-ins.
I am using a MacBook Pro with Macintosh OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, with Flash 11.2.202.233. Current Browsers: Firefox 11.0, Opera 11.61, Camino 2.1.2, Safari 5.1.5
Any ideas what I could be overlooking?Hey, it is getting them to work. Although I still have the “URL Not Found” error on BTD, and I get a whole different debugger error on Korra. But none of the errors prevent the associated items from working. Hopefully this will work in the other places I have had trouble with.
Anyway, the new error for Korra was:

Screen Mirroring does not work, full of bugs.
Hi,
I've had a Sony Z1 for well over six months now and have got a Sony Bravia TV that supports mircast screen mirroring. When I purchased the Z1 it was on android 4.2 and the screen mirroring worked a treat, it was lag free, always responsive etc.
But when I upgraded to 4.3, the mirroring was buggy as **bleep**, the device always disconnected, when it did connect after several attempts it would lag, black out, then disconnect again. I've tried fiddling with wifi settings as well as wifi direct etc. but no joy and I left it as that.
When I knew 4.4 kitkat was coming to the z1 I waited as I would assume the issue would be fixed, but I upgraded to 4.4 (build: 14.3.A.0.757) today and is still full of these disconnecting and unresponsive bugs. I'm not sure what the problem is, I mirrored a samsung s4 mini and works absolutely fine (4.2) and I can mirror my sony xperia tablet z (4.3) with no issues either. I know a relative who also owns the z1 and has exactly the same issue, what also seems to happen now and then, is that half way through a mirrored session, the wifi would disable and will switch to the mobile network, then after some time, back to wifi again; yet this never happened on 4.2?
Is there a fix or a way to solve these issues? It's rather annoying having such a great feature that doesn't want to work on a flagship.
Thanks.I had some issues with Miracast on my Z1 but with 4.2 and 4.3 firmware. It was loosing connection or kept saying that I don't have HDCP. I was connecting using Netgear Push2TV.
On 4.4 (.757) it works quite stable. On Z1C with 4.3 I wasn't able to miracast at all.
The same goes with screen mirroring to Z2 tablet. Works fine from Z1 to Z2 (both KitKat, altough one touch pairing is a disaster and not working at all), but you can forget about it using Z1C and Android 4.3.
Best regards,
Sergio PL

Yoga 2 Pro Touch screen not working
I've had no problems with my yoga 2 pro for over a month, but last night I decided to do windows updates. This is the model with the i7, and 8gb of ram. I let it update and then restarted it. After it started up, I tried to swipe the cover screen up, but nothing was happening. I then decided to use the mouse, and soon realized that the touch screen was unresponsive. I've tried to restore the computer to before the updates, but it hasn't fixed the problem. I can still switch to tablet and stand mode, etc. and the screen will rotate, but I can not get the touch screen to respond to anything. I tried to install some drivers, but none of them are for the touch screen as far as I know, and nothing else seems to work. Does anyone know a fix, or maybe know of a driver I need to install?
Hey mgollery,
Sorry that you are having this issue. Do you know what might have caused this at least? Did you plug in any USB devices recently or does the touchscreen disable after you plug it in? Did you install any programs recently? Do you have the most updated drivers? Do you leave it on long enough for it to go into sleep mode?
Btw, you should check out this other thread here:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-touchscreen-not-working/td-p/902131/...
Some people got it working by uninstalling recently installed software, updating video card drivers, and others have just had to get it replaced.
If none of the uninstalls, updates, drivers stuff works, I would do the following (like the others have said in this list), but please be careful (stuff might break):
- Do a system restore (to a point where it worked before)
- If that doesn't work, do a windows refresh
- If that doesn't work, I'd call Lenovo and see what tech support can do to help. They will try to update stuff for you and if that doesn't work, they will literally try to reset your computer basically to factory settings (Lenovo actually has their own program that tries to reset stuff)
- If that doesn't work, and you can't live without a touchscreen, I'd call up Lenovo or if you are still on the phone with them, get them to replace it. They handle all the shipping and while it sucks to not have it for a couple of weeks, you at least get the computer you paid for.
Ultimately, what happened to me was that none of the little tricks worked. System restore didn't work. Windows refresh didn't work. Then I called them and they basically told me to do the same things. This time though, during the refresh, some bug happened where it screwed up the refresh so I couldn't even start Windows anymore and it bricked my computer. Then they even had me go through the Lenovo refresh thingy which didn't work. At the end, I ended up shipping it back to them to fix and I think they basically just gave me a new Yoga 2 Pro. The whole process sucked, but at least now my touchscreen works and I never plug my fitbit into the USB port anymore.
Hope that helps.
