UDF Limitations
Hi All,
I am using SAP 2005B PL34. While trying to add UDF's on marketing document, the system is not allowing me to create more udf's. Can anyone please tell me is there any limitation as of to how many udf's can i add in a single database??
Thanks,
Joseph
Yes as pointed out in the link there is a limit. One thing to consider which I have pointed out several times here is that when you add a character field to SAP, by default it is added to SQL as varchar(max) which I believe means 64,000 characters. Before you use a new UDF field you should go into sql and change the size. There is obviously a huge difference between a character field with a size of say 30 and one that is 64,000 characters.
I know that many many users do not do this and also some third party vars do not but we do and it makes a huge difference in performance, reporting, etc.

Hello,
our customer has reached an (maybe) undocumented limit of UDFs.
In OINS he is managing 359 UDFs.
Can anyone give me a hint for a documentation or note relatetd to this issue, pls?
Kind regard
ChristianThanks to all,
we decide to give the customer an addon-solution to manage the enhanced informations in UDO-Objects and link the UDO to the SAP BO masterdata table.
It was just, what is known about this issue of UDF limits by the experts. Just to give the customer the information, that he has to use an addon for this businessprocess.

OIM 11g R2: Bulk load utility
Hi all,
I'm going to import users data to OIM 11g R2 using bulk load utility. My question is: does bulk load utility support user defined fileds (UDFs)?
Reading the documentation I don't find any reference about UDFs or UDFs limitation, but I would be aware of any your experience before starting.
Thank for support,
DanieleIt should support. Bulk load loads the data directly into database table using sql loader. So as long as you have UDF column in USR table and you have specified it in csv file, i believe it should work.

Limiting Authorization of one of many UDF in marketing documents
Hi
I have created a Additional Authorization Creator for limiting the user from changing the values of UDF Field and its working fine, but the issue is i need to block only one UDF which i have created.
For Eg.
There are some 5 UDF (Header Level UDF) in a marketing document, namely
UDF 1 - Transport Name
UDF 2 - Transport Type
UDF 3 - Vehicle Number
UDF 4 - Driver Number
UDF 5 - Driver Name
I need to block only the UDF 5 from changing and the other UDF's can be changed.
The Additional Authorization Creator which i created block's me from changing all the five UDF Values instead of only that UDF 5 .
What could be reason? Should i need to give any Form Number like what i give 63771 which is for Form Settings?Hi
you can open the document , open the user defined field
go to tools---customization tools ---settings
you will see the list of UDF you can just select which UDF you want to update
you can mark 4 UDF as active and the 5-th UDF as not active but visible

Limited Logistics users and User Defined Fields - UDF
The SAP "Overview of SAP Business One License User Types" shows, in the last section under General, that only Professional users have any access at all to User-defined fields and tables.
This seems counterintuitive as these fields are usually set up for others to see and to use.
What is the real scoop on this?
Thank you,
SalHi Sal,
It only means Professional User License has unlimited usages of UDF & UDT including managing and defining them.
To read the values and use them are available to all license types.

Limitation on series number assignment
Hi Experts,
Is our current system has limitation on defining series names under System Admin>Document Number? Our current client wants to have their 3 sets of OR numbers series hardcoded as Incoming payment series numbers and this will be on the multiples of 50. So we need to create new series once it is consumed. Is this technically feasible?
Please advise.
Thanks,
DonHi Gordon,
I agree on your reservations to this idea. Right now I don't think creating UDT (for the series numbers) and UDF with FMS query attach to Incoming payment document is applicable because the 3 Offical Receipt (OR) booklets which are issued to collectors are in series booklets and may have the possibility to overlap from time to time.
Any suggestion on how to go about it?
Thanks,
Don -
Please remove remaining 255 character API limitations
I develop a library for creating .xll add-ins using the Excel C API (as described in the Excel SDK:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/bb687883(v=office.15).aspx ). However, this discussion also applies to the COM Automation interfaces, as used from VBA or VSTO.
Since Excel 2007, the 255 character limitation for strings in Excel C APIs have been lifted. In particular, the C API supports long Unicode strings up to 32767 characters in most places. However, there are
a number of C API calls where the 255 character string limitation remains. Typically, the corresponding COM Automation call has the same limitation, so these seem to be inherent in Excel at some level.
I highlight two cases:
* the C API call xlcFormulaConvert is used to convert formulas between A1 and R1C1-style references. If the resulting converted formula would be longer than 255 characters, the API call fails. Likewise, the corresponding
COM call is Application.ConvertFormula, and has the same limitation of 255 character strings and returns Error 2105 for strings that would be longer than 255 characters. see the Remark in the documentation here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff822751(v=office.15).aspx
* the C API call xlcFormulaArray has a similar limitation, as does the COM Automation equivalent,Range.FormulaArray, as documented here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/213181
(first noted in Excel 2000, but still present in Excel 2013) and here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff837104(v=office.15).aspx. Workarounds for this bug are very hard to implement, an example is this extensive discussion from 2005: http://dailydoseofexcel.com/archives/2005/01/10/entering-long-array-formulas-in-vba/
Various other function have similar limitations, e.g. Match
and Replace, RTD topic strings.
I am posting here, in hopes that there is some way for this issue to make its way to the Excel team. These limitations still remaining from previous versions cause ongoing pain, and I would like to plead that they get some attention for future Excel
releases.

Excel-DNA - Free and easy .NET for ExcelAnother place where this limitation is present (still in Excel 2013), is in the strings passed with a C API call to
xlfRegister, used to register a UDF. While the C API has supported long Unicode strings since Excel 2007, calls to xlfRegister will fail if any of the strings are longer than 255 characters.
The limitation is particularly inconvenient in this call, since one of the strings represents the concatenation of parameter names displayed in the Insert Function dialog. So the total length of parameter names (including separator characters between parameters)
cannot be more than 255 characters - a limit that is quite easily bumped into.
This affects any add-in based on the C API, whether developed in C/C++ or a managed helper library like Excel-DNA.

[email protected]Hi JN,
There is no limit in number of UDF but in record length. This a SQL
Server 2000 limitation which establish 8060 bytes as maximum for a
record. This limitation does not exist in MSSQL 2005.
Therefore, in order to be able to add more UDFs you should reduce the
size of the existing UDFs or upgrade the system to MSSQL 2005.
Please refer to the SAP note 816387
The solution to this problem is to decrease the size of the
User Defined Fields. Either by decreasing the length or changing
the definition of "Alpahnumeric" fields to Text, or the last resort
is to remove the fields.
All these actions have to be done via the SAP Business One application.
The change of field type alphanumeric to Text might influence the
performance. -
Hi All,
I' ve added an user defined field in Sales forecast-rows. But when I open the Sales forecast window that particular UDF is not displays. If am add in the Title it is displays.
Let me know how to get it display in the rows.
Regards,
Venkatesan G.It is known limitation in SAP B1 that the UDF added in Row Level does not get displayed in the Screen.

User-defined tables, user-defined fields, and records limitation
Hi,
I would like to use UDT and UDF as my add on table. I doubt there is the limitation (performance issue) using these. Can someone tell me what is the max UDT, UDF, and records can application support?
rgds
ERICHi Eric,
There is no limitation on SBO as far as I know. There is a limitation on SQL though. The limitation (on SQL 2000 that is, not sure if it's the same on SQL 2005) you can only add fields in a table that adds up to 8060 characters. The amount of records in that table will depend on the amount of hard disk space you have available.
Hope it helps,

A weird thing in changing UDF setting
Hi All,
I had a weird thing in UDF setting. Previously I set some valid values for an UDF, now I removed them so there is no limitation for this UDF. At least I don't see any setting in valid values in UDF management tools. But the problem is when i test my add-on it gives me error like value is not valid value for this UDF. Do I need to reboot whole SAP B1 server?
Any idea?
Thanks,
LanHi Gordon,
Thanks for your reply, actually i didn't do anything just took 20 minutes break when i came back then it works.

Service Limits in Purchase Requisitions: Where to Insert Custom Code?
The issue is related to finding a place in SAP logic where a BADI, or, an
enhancement can be implemented when inside transaction ME52N for a
Service Limits type Purchase Requisition where K is the Account
Assignment and B is the Item Category for a Service Limit Purchase
requisition. Especially. or initially, at the point of navigation when
going from (within the Limit Tab) and selecting the Account Assignment
Icon to the right.
By finding a good place to insert custom code in between these two tabs
during navigation I am referring to (1)the actuality of the transaction
breaking into this location, and,(2)a place where the global fields can
be read and changed ie. GL Account Number, Material Group, etc.
I have read, and reviewed several SAP Notes: 496082, 627072 and 551863.
Failed Attempts:
1)I have tried finding BADIs via breakpoints inside of
CL_EXITHANDLER~GET_INSTANCE. None that are found are used and are not ofany help.
2)I have attempted to use various user exits within the following SMODs,to name a few:
MEREQ001 |Customers' Own Data in Purchase Requisition
SAPLF0PR |Requests: Account Determination and Checks
SAPMF02H |Function exit: G/L account master data
V45E0002 |Data transfer in procurement elements (PRreq., assembly)
WDFE0001 |Customer-Specific Determination of Requirements Data
COZF0001 |Change purchase req. for externally processed operation
COZF0002 |Change purchase req. for externally procured component
3)I have implemented various custom enhancements inside of SAP Main
Program SAPLMEREQ inside include LMEREQF09, and a few other LMEREQFXX.
4) We previously used BADI 'ME_PROCESS_REQ_CUST' to satisfy a similar
requirement, but is of no help for this request.
Thank-You,Custom tags are different than udfs. Let's stick with udfs. Your location choices are:
1. If only one template is going to use it, you can put it in that template. Otherwise,
2. You can put it in a .cfm file and cfinclude that file whenever you want to call the function, or
3. You can put it into a .cfc.
A little while back, someone ran some tests and posted the results on one of these forums. The gist of it was that Option 2 would run faster than Option 3. -
Title limitation in DVDSP4?
Notes on DVD test playback 11/20/05 8:07 PM:
This project has 22 menus. Most every submenu has 6 buttons. Ten (10) of the menus are submenus created as a result of chapters/chapter markers of a single audio/video track. The other 12 buttons have a separate video file. The build process created 44 "titles" I tested last nights version of this project completely on a different computer, my wife's iMac OSX 10.39, using Apple DVD player to play the "built" DVD off of the hard disk and each and every file and menu option played back exactly as it was programmed/like expected.
The DVD was burned using Toast v7/01, after removing the ".LAY" and ".layout" files. Toast showed the file size to be 3.66 GB. It did not pass verification and did not play correctly even through the first two submenus.
So I recompiled/rebuilt it again in DVDSP4 and formatted this next version directly from within DVDSP4. DVDSP4 said, "Compile Completed Successfully," and upon burning/formatting said, "Formatting finished" (see complete logs below). DVDSP4 said the file size was 3.99 GB.
Upon visual inspection of each of the two discs, I found that there was space left on the "burn" side indicating that each of the two discs were not "full."
This last DVD played titles to "title 31" OK. Titles over "title 31" locked up the DVD player.
This project was rebuilt from scratch, from the bottom up. Nothing was kept from the original project. Yet this is the same type of result that I got from the last project. The builds all went well with no yellow flags in the DVDSP4 log. The burns were successful with no yellow flags in the DVDSP4 log. The lower chapters - to around chapter 20 played back fine. The higher chapters - above chapter 21 or 22 did this same lockup thing - the DVD player showed the "higher" title number, then chapter 1 number, but did not increment time and only showed a black screen on the TV.
I was very careful this time to make sure that I only used files that had been compressed the same way - stock Compressor v2.01 setting "Best Quality 120 minutes - 4:3 all" except for one file that I no longer had the original FCP file for, that had been compressed using the last version of Compressor stock setting "1 hour".
This particular file shows as "title 31" and played back fine through 17 chapters and 13 minutes and 8 seconds. It end jumped correctly. I went back and chapter skipped from chapter 1 of this different quality compressed file and it skipped chapters correctly all the way though the end. When I skipped from the last chapter of "title 31" it correctly forward jumped to the next file.
So I don't think the different compression ratio on this one file is an issue.
Another odd thing is that the original version of this project also created 44 titles. However, after rebuilding that project completely from scratch hoping that I had eliminated any "corruption" I added a few more menus and videos/titles to this version. Yet this version also has 44 titles. There should have been a few more than the last project - certainly not the exact same number again.
So it's the higher title numbers - titles above 31 that are problematic, with the numbers above 31 not playing back at all and locking up the DVD player. My DVD player, a Pioneer DV-F727 is several years old, but has no problems playing back commercial DVDs.
Is there a title/file number and/or a hierarchical limitation that I am not aware of and need to know about?
The number 31 is the last binary number (0-31 = 32). Does this have anything to do with it? I see commercial titles that have more than 31 chapters. Star Wars III has 50 chapters - ah, but after checking I see it's "title 1 chapter 50". One title, with 50 chapters.
So, is there a problem with more than 31 "titles?" If so, what is my solution? Make each of the pieces of each of my submenus all one piece? With a one second space of black between each one to insure a clean start? Then have them show up as "chapters" instead of "titles?"
I just spent over two weeks completely rebuilding this project from scratch. It plays fine off of the hard drive using Apple DVD player, yet it still does not burn correctly or play back correctly from DVD - even when DVDSP4 shows every indication that the the project "built" and "formatted" correctly. Please advise.
Below my email address please find the copied and pasted logs of the build and format of this last attempt. And please let me know ASAP if DVDSP4 is incapable of building a project of this size with over 31 "titles" or if there is any other known file/format/type/quantity/etc. limitation. Thanx.

Formatting finished.Thank you for your response. I used DVD-SP4 in the stock/standard configuration. I did not set DVD-SP4 intentionally to do anything. So, I'm not sure what you mean by your statement ". It looks like you have set DVD-SP4 to put each menu into a separate V_TS and, without enough extra tracks to play . . ."
What I had done originally was have a separate video for nearly every menu button. I wanted potential clients to be able to listen to any one part of my demo and when that part was finished, have the DVD "end jump" to the next menu button selection. That's why I had such a large track/title count.
What I did next was to combine all the separate "movies" within each [main] sub menu into one - longer - movie with chapter markers per [main] sub menu (except the 6th & last one because I did not have the original FCP file for one of the movies in that menu). Then I retargeted each button to the correct chapter marker.
This brought my track/title count down from 38 (or so) down to 8 or 9. That helped. But I still had trouble burning/formatting a DVD that would play reliably. Out of 5, I only got one that played each menu piece from beginning to end, then made it's "end jump" correctly without causing the DVD player to get lost and stop playing back the DVD.
A couple of others played back the menu pieces from beginning to end, but would "get lost" at the end of, for example, menu #2 playback and stop the DVD player instead of making the correct "end jump".
But then I'd go back to the exact same place (the last section/button/chapter location of the menu that got lost), and the next time it would "end jump" correctly. Go figure!
The rest did not play back reliably at all.
I don't know if combining the individual "movies" to one movie per [main] menu is what you meant when you said, "Try putting the menus (in batches) into the V_TS of the asset they refer to, and not into a new VT_S for every sub-menu/story. (Or possibly, even, putting them all into V_TS#1.)"
I don't know what all the "V_TS" designations mean. I wish I did.
I'm not sure what to try next. I suppose I could combine all of the first 5 menu's "movies" into one long-play track, and re-target the buttons all over again. Maybe that is what you meant when you said, "(Or possibly, even, putting them all into V_TS#1.)"
It will be a lot of work - again - but it would bring my track count down another 3 or 4. It won't be very good for navigating my demo, though, as I laid out each of the 6 main submenus so that one could view a specific part of my expertise or experience. With only one big "movie" there would only be one "end jump" and it just wouldn't be as good as the way I have it now.
By the way, when I rebuilt the individual tracks into 1-menu-at-a-time combined tracks in FCP 5, I grabbed the original individual sequences and put them into a new sequence. So my original sequences then became sub-sequences. However, when I did this, all my green chapter markers turned into pink clip markers that did not export as chapter markers into DVD-SP4. And everything I tried to convert or change them from pink clip markers to green chapter markers did not work.
If I double-clicked any of the sequences, the markers showed up as green chapter markers. Recreating them one at a time was a hassle. Do you (or does anyone) know of a way to take those chapter markers in the original sequences and retain them on the timeline when using those sequences as sub-sequences?
Anyway, here is what the log said for this latest attempt to build/format/burn this movie-menu-combined DVD. Thanks again for your help!

DRQ : Draw Document Wizard only show limited details.
Hi,
I'm not sure is this the correct place to do development request.
I found out that when do Copy from Function (eg. Do Delivery by Via Copy to function), Draw Document Wizard only show limited details. Width , height, length are not shown.
Our customer sells same item (Product Code) with difference size and dimension. It is hard to select the item from the draw document wizard.
Even harder for documents that have a lot document lines with same product code.
Is there any plan for this req in the next upcoming patch?
Please advise.
AndyHi Andy
What I understood from your explanation is you have one single item code, but the item has different sizes. So, you are creating multiple lines for same item in base document (sales order/purchase order).
My question is to you, how are you capturing the sizes in the document. Have you created any UDF to capture the sizes.
If your answer is 'Yes', then, you can include those UDFs in Draw Document Wizard -> Select Item to Copy (through Form Settings). Also you can drag & drop those UDFs just beside your Item Code or Description, which will help user to understand the actual size/specification of the Item while drawing the base document into target.
If your answer is 'No', then you can create those required UDFs for Marketing Document -> Rows and store the values in the base document. And while using Draw Document Wizard include those UDFs through Form Settings as explained above.
Thanks & Regards

Hi Experts,
i've never created an UDF, but knows the procedure how to create it.....I want to know wht are the basic java packages are required and some basic functions like setParamter(), getParameter() etc. which are important to know being an XI developer. can anyone list down those function names along with some description and details of parameters are needed...
i've gone thru SAP Help but unable to locate any such functions.......

How to create user defined functions in xi.

1. To create a new user-defined function, in the data-flow editor, choose Create New Function (This
graphic is explained in the accompanying text), which is located on the lower left-hand side of the
screen. In the menu, choose Simple Function or Advanced Function.
2. In the window that appears, specify the attributes of the new function:
Name
Technical name of the function. The name is displayed in the function chooser and on the data-flow
object.
Description
Description of how the function is used.
Cache
Function type (see above)
Argument Count
In this table, you specify the number of input values the function can process, and name them. All
functions are of type String.
3. In the window that appears, you can create Java source code:
a. You can import Java packages to your methods from the Imports input field, by specifying them
separated by a comma or semi-colon:
You do not need to import the packages java.lang., java.util., java.io., and java.lang.reflect. since
all message mappings require these packages and therefore import them. You should be able to
access standard JDK and J2EE packages of the SAP Web Application Server by simply specifying the
package under Import. In other words, you do not have to import it as an archive into the Integration
Repository. You can also access classes of the SAP XML Toolkit, the SAP Java Connector, and the
SAP Logging Service (see also: Runtime Environment (Java-Mappings)).
In addition to the standard packages, you can also specify Java packages that you have imported as
archives and that are located in the same, or in an underlying software component version as the
message mapping.
b. Create your Java source text in the editor window or copy source text from another editor.
4. Confirm with Save and Close.
5. User-defined functions are limited to the message mapping in which you created the function. To
save the new function, save the message mapping.
6. To test the function, use the test environment.
The new function is now visible in the User-Defined function category. When you select this category,
a corresponding button is displayed in the function chooser pushbutton bar. To edit, delete, or add the
function to the data-flow editor, choose the arrow next to the button and select from the list box
displayed.

Satya Kuamr
