UDP Stream -- SDP File w/ QuickTime Streaming Server?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to help a client who's getting into some more advanced QuickTime stuff than I'm famillair with, and I could sure use some help figuring out a solution for him. Instead of trying to rephrase his question myself, I'll just copy his email to me below:
Question about QTSS. I have played around with Darwin Streaming Server quite a bit but there is one thing I want it to do that it can't. My question is this. Will Quicktime Streaming Server take an unannounced UDP stream that is directed to it and automatically create a SDP file so I can then relay the stream to people. With DSS I have to make a SDP file myself which I don't know how to do yet.
What I'm doing is using an Axis Network camera, sending video out UDP unannounced. I'm doing this so if a network connection goes down the camera will still be sending out video and when the connection comes back up the video will make it through to the server again.
So once it's on QTSS I want to pull 3 different streams of this feed (via the SDP file), one with no modification, the other 2 VLC will request the stream and transcode them and drop the transcoded stream into another QTSS. This second QTSS would be the server for the 2 transcoded streams.
Thanks,
Any ideas? If QTSS can't do exactly what he has in mind, is there another feature that would be similar? Again, any help you might provide would be very appreciated,
Huxley Dunsany

I thought I'd bump this message just on the off chance anyone who might have an answer missed it the first time around. Heck, if you've even got a good suggestion as to a better forum to ask it on, I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks, and best wishes,

  • Streaming Larges Files with Quicktime

Hey guys - I am in need of some serious help. I have streamed files with quicktime before, no problem. But now I need to stream about 75 minutes worth of video. How do I do this and keep quality video and sound? I don't mind having a large file as long as it streams. But 1.2 gigabytes is a little ridiculous. I have seen this done with WMV but I am having trouble doing it with quicktime. It's very frustrating because there are so many compression packages and options within those. I would like to finish before I die. Anybody have any ideas?

Streaming ANY size file is really an issue of bandwidth out of the server. The closer the server is to a backbone and the better the connection to the backbone, the better feed you have.
    Everybody sing!
The backbone connected to the T-1,
    The T-1 connected...
    Oh nevermind.

  • File type/quicktime/streaming problem

I use a stock trading app (thinkorswim) that links to a CNBC streaming video. Before I upgraded to Snow Leopard, when I'd click the link, VLC (a third party video app) would open and start streaming the video. Now when I click it, I get an error message saying "QuickTime Player must be installed to run this application."
I think this is a file type issue. If the video was a static file, I'd do a Get Info on it and tell it to open in VLC. But it's a streaming video triggered from another app, so I don't know how to make it work.
    Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. Was using Flip4MAC and have also tried Flip4MAC Beta which is supposed to work on Snow Leopard.... No Soap. If you have any responses from other places, I'd like to know.

  • VLC-capture streaming ".ts" file to QuickTime - what are best VLC settings?

I captured a Webcast of a U.S. House Appropriations Committee hearing to disk with VLC (making a ".ts file") but am having trouble working with it. Although VLC will play it fine, QuickTime and MPEG Streamclip (where I hoped to convert it) will not. MPEG Streamclip plays it, but without audio. I've tried various kinds of Streamclip conversions to no avail (and I have Perian and QuickTimeMPEG2.component, which often solve problems). Two questions: Generally speaking, if you can't hear the audio playing it in MPEG Streamclip, is it likely that doing conversions with Streamclip aren't going to help you? And #2, for future reference, what would be the optimal settings in VLC to make a ts file that will be QuickTime-friendly (or at least MPEG Streamclip friendly where I can export or convert to something that QuickTime will accept).
P.S. -- Codecs shown in VLC under Properties are:
Stream 0: MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga)
    Stream 1: MPEG-1/2 Video (mpgv)

Generally speaking, if you can't hear the audio playing it in MPEG Streamclip, is it likely that doing conversions with Streamclip aren't going to help you?
I would normally think not. However, as this is not a normal work flow for me, would you happen to have a short sample clip to play with for testing purposes?
#2, for future reference, what would be the optimal settings in VLC to make a ts file that will be QuickTime-friendly (or at least MPEG Streamclip friendly where I can export or convert to something that QuickTime will accept).
No TS, MTS, or M2TS content is compatible with QT since it only handles program stream files. As to MPEG Streamclip, again this is uncharted territory for me and I would need to run my own tests on a sample file before saying anything definitive.

  • Streaming large files issue (flash streaming media server)

We are streaming a one hour F4V from streaming media server 3.5.2 and for some reason it is seeing our one hour video as being 10 hours long. We have tons of other videos and never ran into this problem in any of the other files. This is the only file that exceeds one hour. Any ideas. This occurs in the default player from the streaming server.

Also before anyone asks we are using RTMP and the file type is F4V not FLV.

After spending nearly 2 hours going up the AppleCare chain (and everyone was very concerned and courteous), it seems to be that the new iPhoto 1.0 for iPhone won't show photos on an Apple TV-fitted HDTV through Airplay. It WOULD, however show the videos (only). The senior tech I last spoke to couldn't get it to show up on his TV with a 4S, either.  There is no "airplay" icon anywhere, in the sharing space or elsewhere.  Only if one turns it on by double-tapping the homescreen and then going all the way to the left can you select AppleTV, allowing videos to play in iPhoto (pretty darn counter-intuitive...). By contrast, Apple's own photo app and every other airplay-enabled app will work with my TV (I have the current Gen2 Apple TV and the brand-new software update). The tech sent this info up the line, but it sounds like there will be a software update coming soon...(always beware of anything that is 1.0- I should have followed my own advice;)  Everything else about iPhoto seems to work fine.  A huge download, but the potential is certainly there. But only if one can use one's Apple-TVd TV with it.

  • Quicktime Streaming Server : Restrict Access

    Hi,
I am streaming some media files using QuickTime Streaming server and publishing them. I get a web URL for that media.
I have 2 kind of users. Internal (i.e. in the same network domain in which I am) and external users (open general users)
I would like to restrict access to some media only to internal users.
Does anyone have clue how to do this?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

I've tried doing the same and never got it working... Not even once. I'd be curious to know how you got it working that one time. I've never heard of anyone getting this to work.
My suggestion is to setup the other XServe with the XRAID as your QTSS or move the XRAID to your QTSS box.

  • Streaming .FLV files from Media Server 4.5 using PHDS

I would like to stream .FLV files from adobe media server 4.5.
Requirements state that the files should be considered secret, so I decided that PHDS sounds like the
    right thing.
I was able to stream an .FLV by placing it in the webroot/vod folder using an url like http://myserver/vod/test.flv
However the developer manual states that a way to enable PHDS at the server level is to uncomment the two lines like this.
    <IfModule jithttp_module>
    <Location /hds-vod>
        HttpStreamingJITPEnabled true
        HttpStreamingContentPath "../webroot/vod"
        JitFmsDirPath ".."
        Options -Indexes FollowSymLinks
    # Uncomment the following directives to enable encryption
    # for this location.
       EncryptionScope server
       ProtectionScheme phds
    </Location>
    </IfModule>
However I am not able to stream my FLV using url like http://myserver/hds-vod/test.flv
Question : Am I supposed to use the hds-vod in the URL or is /vod doing the same ?
Is the approach correct, or should the files go into an applications\myapplication\media folder ?
I will need some server side actionscript to validate access to the stream, is that possible without a dedicated application ?

    Hi,
When you use the vod location directive you're basically using Progressive download so your URL is as : http://myserver/vod/test.flv
However, when you use the location directive hds-vod, it is HTTP Streaming, where the fragments are created on the fly. For this your URL needs to be as : http://myserver/hds-vod/test.f4v.f4m
Please note .flv files are not supported for HTTP streaming (via hds-vod location directive). You cannot use PHDS with .flv files.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot play SDP file - Unauthorized

    Hi All,
Im trying to open a sdp file on rtp streaming server through JMFStudio -> Open URL option. When I try this, im getting a error message
    "Controller Error:
Failed to Realize: Message from RTSP Server - Unauthorized". Im using "rtsp://172.16.1.163/img/media.sdp"
According to the streaming server documentation, i need to provide username and password to open this file.
when i tried through VLCplayer, it gave a prompt to enter username and password, and it played successfully.
Im completly new to JMF, Can you please guide me how to play this file.
    Thanks in Advance...

    Byabu.

    Dear Captfoss,
We have tried with FOBS4JMF codecs, but it gave an exception like Datasource creation failed.
Sorry for not providing the logs, since we have installed Salyens in the testing machine.
After Salyens installation, there was a collision in JMF while creating Datasource for the stream, saying duplicate entry for codecs (or decoders).
After we removed FOBS4JMF codecs from JMF registry, Saylens was able to create the datasource and able to play the stream with the mentioned effects.
We have read this post on this link regarding FOBS4JMF on Windows.
Does FMJ supports MP4V-ES format on RTP? As per our knowledge we dont think it supports.
    best regards,
    Byabu

  • How do I install Quicktime Streaming Server?

How do I install Quicktime Streaming Server?
    Thanks
    Mac mini G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The Apple-supported QuickTime Streaming Server only comes with Mac OS X Server. What you need it QTSS's open-source twin Darwin Streaming Server. Download that, open the disk image, and just double-click on the package file to install.

  • Quicktime Streaming Server will not accept Quicktime Broadcaster connection

I am running Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard server on a parallels virtual machine on my Mac Pro. Since the parallels server cannot "see" the video camera and microphone since it is parallels, i want to stream from Quicktime Broadcaster from the host Mac Pro to the QSS. I have tried everything from Sunday and i keep getting a Disconnected (-3285) error. I have set the login password in server admin, i have used the web based management option, i have created relays and then deleted them, i have used the Quicktime Administrator's manual and have gone in through the Terminal to adjust the password, and so on. My goal is to stream from the host to the QSS server so that i can host a webcast to multiple users who would go in through rtp in QUicktime. nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Just to add to this. I followed several instructions in the Administration guide for both OSX and Darwin. I went into the qtusers file and verified that the username that i want to use to broadcast was in there. It was. I went into the qtgroups file and made sure that there was a group called broadcaster and there was. i also added a group called admin and added another username and made sure that was in qtusers as well. I followed the steps to create a qtaccess file and put a copy in the default media folder. i also tried having broadcaster send its mystream file right onto the server's. I know that QTSS is talking to QTB because it does request a username and password. I put the ones that are in the config files in there over and over again and it does not work...

  • SDI Capture Card that works with QuickTime Streaming Server/Encoder

I can't seem to find any major SDI video card manufacturer that has drivers which work on a MAC OSX Server using QuickTime Streaming Server & QuickTime Broadcaster. Apple has suggested we try LiveChannel and I have yet to contact them. I have however contacted AJA, BlackMagic, View cast, etc. and none have tested their cards against QuickTime Streaming Server & QuickTime Broadcaster.
We need to be able to do Multicasting
    Any help is appreciated!

Sorry but I think I was impatient when I wrote that.
After monitoring the .upcoming file, I saw the new entries appear after a while.
You can modify the .playlist file at runtime without updating QTSS. It will read that file automatically after a while.
It seems to work fine now.
    Thanks

  • Where did the Quicktime streaming server go??

It looks as if the Quicktime streaming server is gone for good - apparently it is not part of the Lion server install, and it can't be found on the Apple web site either. There is a page for it, but it doesn't actually provide any useful information.
Does anyone has any idea what happened to this technology?

Hello! I said... I want the ability to input analogue video into my camcorder so I can continue to transfer VHS and input and record video from other sources. The new HD cameras on the market will not allow you to record video from any source except for the lens.
I have HD cable box. I want to record my HD programs from cable (HBO, Starz, etc) to my camera, download the video to my Mac from the camera and then edit them in iMovie and create professional looking movie DVD's in iMovie.
iMovie HD can work with mini DV HD cameras and HD video. I was not aware of a system requirement for working with HD content.

  • Unable to stream SMIL files unless the html page, swf file and the smil ffile are on the FMS server.

When I place the .swf, smil and http files on the FMS server the SMIL stream test sample works fine
But When I move the files to my web server I get Connection error.
This is the same issue discussed in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/554107
I added a ‘base’ variable but it did not work for me.
The SMIL file has the correct path to the sample files and FMS server
         <meta base="rtmp://200.200.200.23/vod/" />
I am able to stream files from my html file on my webserver not the FMS server by pointing to the FMS server at rtmp://200.200.200.23/vod/mp4:sample1_1500kbps.f4v
Is this a domain security setting? If so, where do I change it?
If not How do I get FMS to stream SMIL files without installing a webserver with FMS?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I think there is bug with that videoPlayer.swf which is used by index.html of webroot folder of FMS to play media files, its not able to parse smil file correctly. I used some other player and used the smil file and kept it on http server other than fms server so it was able to dynamically stream videos. So I would suggest you to create your own player which uses smil file. You can take help from the below link to create player:
