UDS installation

During the installation of UDS, I am facing a problem that its node manager service is not getting started, though environment manager & repository service is getting started,
How can this service be started so that I can install UDS properly

The Environment Manager is just a special type of Nodemanager - you need one EnvMgr per environment and the EnvMgr IS the Nodemgr for the server that it runs on. You only need a Nodemgr on other servers - if you only install on one server you just need the EnvMgr and that is it.

Hi Rajendra,
you must first install the OSI PI API and then the UDS Framework in order to connect to OSI PI with MII using the UDS. If you're not too sure what to use, a good "testing" option would be to install the OSI PI Client tool on the box which you're going to install the UDS - it will include the API Library.
I haven't used the PCo to connect to OSI PI but I'm assuming the process is the same as with the UDS (I think you need to use 2.1 to retrive data too, but I'm not sure).
There is another way to connect to OSI PI (and I'm putting my head up here to be shot), using an OleDB connection. This also allows you to do more complex queries to PI as opposed to the standard Current, History, etc... I don't know if this is still available and I know this isn't as robust as it should be :).

PI UDS - Installation Best practices

Hi all:
Per the installation guide the only requirement is to have the PI API installed on the same box as the UDS.
I have the following questions on installing the UDS Framework & PI UDS. Appreciate your answers:
1) Can this be installed on the xMII server with along with the PI API/SDK?
2) Can this be installed on any machine with the PI API/SDK installed?
3) What operating systems does it work with and Is a server class machine a requirement?
4) If the only option is to install this on the PI server, are there memory or CPU requirements to runs this?
5) What is the expected network data packet size and frequency? Im assuming this is a background task that continually runs.

1.) I would highly recommend the native connections vs OLEDB is every case where you can get to the data you require from the native xMII UDS. The only reasons you would favor the OLEDB UDS is in cases where you can not retrieve the data from the native xMII UDS.
As for the instabilities, we feel that we have resolved all the issues in the upcoming release, but if you still find a situation where the xMII UDS fails, please send in a support case and the appropriate fixes will be done.
The current known issues with the 4.0.2.5 xMII OLEDB UDS are as follows.
- Unicode characters are not always correctly handled.
- Administrative modes are not accessible.
- Other smaller minor fixes.
- The connection string dialog is populated and encoded correctly.
2) Currently the new xMII UDSs are in Acceptance Testing and there is no access to the xMII OLEDB UDS. We are all trying very hard to get this through the process as quickly as possible, but with testing resource issues, it may still take some time.

Error when create UDS instance

Dear All,
I got an error message when creating UDS instance, the message is "Error:0x80040153 Invalid value for registry".
The UDS server and OPC server is running on different windows PC. In the UDS Admin Console, I create a new OPC-DA instance. Then I was trying to point the OPC server to Matrikon Simulation Server on another PC. I input the machine name and then key enter. Then above error message appeared. When I pointed OPC server to the Matrikon Simulation Server on localhost. It worked well.
Please advice if you had ever experience on it before.

Did you account for the OPC Foundation portion of this which would be required by the UDS in order to communicate to the other server (uses DCOM)? This is not part of the UDS installation, but is necessary (similar to needing the PI-API installed before using the PI UDS s/w).

IHistorian3 UDS Error

Hi,
We have installed iHistorian 3.1 and iHistorian3UDS on the same server.I tried to add new iHistorian3 UDS through the UDS Admin.But I am getting the error
Unable to create datasource IHISTORIAN3UDS.DataSource.[Class not registered]

Irene,
Which order did you install them - was iHistorian installed first followed by the UDS? Did you receive any UDS installation issues, since the class not registered error sometimes means that when the ihistorian3uds.dll file in the system32 directory did not register properly.
If I'm not mistaken the iHistorian3 UDS is also not compatible with the 3.1 version of Proficy since they keep changing their api. The upcoming versions of the UDS will support late binding for iHistorian so that there is no need to have version specific compiles.
Is this a demo system or production - can you roll back to iHistorian version 3.0 for the short term?

Does anybody upgraded their UDS to 5.2.33?

Does anbody using UDS 5.2.x version? we are planning to upgrade our UDS version from 5.1.9 to the current one 5.2.33. I would like to know the things to consider and remember during upgrade. pl advise.

We're using 5.2.19 for some our applications.
If you want to use the Oracle 10 client, ensure that you have FORTE_ROOT defined before you start the UDS installation.

What is BDI or BDS spelled out? Jabber for Mac 9.2(1) Installation and Configuration Guide

I’m spending the day catching up on Jabber/IM&P release notes across the server/clients.
So I’m used to EDI and UDS, but we have a new acronym in the Jabber for Mac 9.2(1) Installation and Configuration Guide called BDI and BDS. However they don’t define what BDI stands for other than BDI is LDAP for non-windows
Clients and suggests it should be used for Jabber for Mac.
What is BDI or BDS spelled out? Something directory integration, but what is the B ?
Then to add to the mix they reference BDS which sounds like the old UDS (is UDS changing to BDS?)
How can Jabber get any more confusing…

Basic Directory Integration. It's not new, we had it in the Windows clients as far back as CUPC. The distinction got introduced when EDI was introduced, relying on Windows ADSI APIs instead of the client making a native LDAP bind.
To my knowledge BDI/BDS are the same thing; I'm guessing S is 'service'. UDS remains unchanged.
I also noted in the Jabber Video for iPad 9.3.4 release notes that Apple is removing the Always Connect option in the near future.
Well, they lost a patent infringement lawsuit and chose to change the functionality instead of pay the troll. That's not Jabber's fault. Collaboration Edge will be the way to avoid this in the near future.

Creating a new environment in UDS 5.2

Hi there,
I am wondering if someone can help us with this problem:
We are installing UDS 5.2 on Solaris 8. After the installation when we try to create a new environment, we get the environment status as INDETERMINABLE. Any new component than added to this environment will also display INDETERMINABLE status. My question is what we are doing wrong and why we are seeing INDETERMINABLE status instead of ONLINE/OFFLINE?

Ok, I was able to figure out the functions that were confusing me. For my own record and for those that do not know, I will list how to create the objects necessary to add a new report to a menu.
1-Write JSP (should be written just how Oracle writes theirs)
2-Creat function for the new JSP page as System Administrator responsibility
3-Use Sys Admin to add the function to a menu somewhere
4-Using AK Developer responsibility, create an attribute with the label of the attribute being the name of your function you created. Oracle's convention is the name of the attribute has FS in it.
5-Using AK Developer, lookup the ASF_FUNC_SEC_REG region
6-Drill down into that regions attributes
7-Add a your newly created attribute to this region
You would do all these steps for your advanced search page as well, so that in your main jsp, you can call asfPage.setAdvancedSearchPage() with the attribute name of your advanced page.
What I Still do not know is:
(1) My main page keeps coming up saying that there is no default query defined for it. How do you create a default query for a report?
(2) How to get the personalization to work.

Active Directory - Forte/UDS integration

Does any body integrated Active Directory Server with Forte ?
We are trying to integrate Forte with Active Directory Server.
Our first step is to open a session on Active Directory from Forte and that was successful.
The second step is to bind to the Active Directory server so as to authenticate the user against the Active Directory service fails.
The error message is :- "ASN.1 Integer does not begin with 0x02 at offset 0".
we are using Forte/UDS 5.0.3 and Windows Server 2000 SP4 for Active Directory.
Any help you can provide in this matter is greatly appreciated

We plan to install CRM 2007 ABAP+Java stack (dual stack).
I can tell you from my experience: avoid dual stack installations wherever possible because
- having to manage memory and resources for two engines running at the same time can be cumbersome
- you create a total dependency between ABAP + Java - means, if you e.g . run a portal and need to update the Java stack to a higher SP you have to also install the related ABAP SPs
- if you do release upgrades you have to run two upgrade processes in parallel since they will "wait for each other", you can´t upgrade separately
- depending on what database you use you must R3load to do system copies (no backup/restore)

IHistorian 3.1 UDS Not installing correctly

I am currently attempting to install the UDS for GE Historian 3.1 and am running into some issues. We have installed it a couple times on local test boxes with no issues, but at the customer site we can not get the installation to work correctly. After the software is installed (both the framework and the IHISTORIAN31UDS_SETUP) I attempt to run the UDS Admin. It returns an error everytime of: Unable to Load UDS Schema. Schema Does Not Exist. Application Will Exit.
Some more background. We had some other issues with installation. When we installed with any user other than the local "Administrator" user it would install the XML files in a specific location for that user. The files appear to be in the correct location now (C:\Windows), but the Admin is not seeing them for some reason.
Any ideas on how to proceed and get this resolved?

Just a few questions... Are you installing this though terminal services or remote desktop? on a 2003/2008 OS? If so, then what may be happening is that the remote desktop manipulating some of these directories on exit.

I would remommend installing the software on the machine or with the remote desktop in console mode (see the Microsoft Help documents for more details).

I have UDS installed, I would like to know whether its 128 or 40 bit encryption

UDS 3.5 and above include cryptography support. This comes as direct access to cryptography primitives as well as indirect access when using the builtin SSLExternalConnection class that supports SSL 3.0. The early versions shipped two different cryptography strengths are required by export controls. The latest versions of UDS are now allowed to ship the higher strength encryption to all customers. My previous post gave a way to determine which cryptography support was installed in your installation.

Sun ONE UDS and Windows 7

I am getting this error when I try to install Sun ONE UDS 5213 on Windows 7 " This Windows NT system does not have TCP/IP installed. Please install the TCP/IP package before installing Sun ONE UDS". Then I edited the registry, then I now started getting this error " Setup is unable to decompress and copy all the program files needed to proceed with the installation. Contact your software vendor. Error 112. Please help I need to run UDS on Win7.

Finally we found the problem!!.
With Process Monitor (Thanks to the greath Mark Russinovich) we monitored ftexec process and when we get the errors the ftexec ends with code 0xC0000425 that mean STATUS_HIVE_UNLOADED
Windows 2008 have a new built-in feature named UPHClean used to clean-up user information in registry when user logoff, but for some reason windows clean the complete user hive in HKU. We disabled this feature and now works ok :-)

Installation advice for xMII V12.0

Hi all,
xMII is my first foray into the SAP experience. We are planning a POC using xMII to build a simple MES system with communication to existing SAP ECC/ERP, various PLCs and Proficy iHistorian and printing to Zebra label printers. We have a sandbox xMII V11.5 installed and working with ECC via RFCs/JCO.
It makes sense to use xMII V12 for the POC as we will not be going live for a year and the work we are doing now is discovery work. We are planning a new installation as the requirement for NetWeaver changes requirements quite dramatically.
I have been looking through the mountain of documents on Wikis, document sites, and Blogs and have found Master guides, Installation Guides, Upgrade Guides, Release Notes, Config Guides, SAP Notes... Then there is JCO, SAP JRA, UDSs of various types, Netweaver (UME, WebAS, CCMS, ...), JRE, database, Windows... I am attempting to make a list of what needs to be installed and in what order for the POC. I have not found a definitive source of information on the installation of an xMII server. -Does one exist?-

This is probably not what you want to hear but the guide will most likely not be updated since the JDBC driver and it's configuration is specific to the vendor and not SAP. This is the reason for all of the various configuration fields you see in the xMII Data Server configuration screen. It allows the xMII system to support a connection via any JDBC driver. The MS site where you downloaded the 2005 driver from has the Server URL defined there and there are plenty of supplementary sites on configuring the URL properly for your system. If you still think it should be added then please create a CSN/CSS message requesting the change.
To cover some previous comments on the NW installation, plan for approx 2-4 days in installing and configuring Solution Manager; if you don't already have it in your corporate landscape. The actual installation took me 20hrs on a 2GB RAM Dual-DualCore 2 GHz CPU machine and took approx 45 GBs of space (This is now required by SAP and last I checked was free). You'll need this because it will help you maintain/manage your various systems corporate wide. Also it is needed to generate "Solution Manager Keys" which are required for NW installations and to download NW support package updates from Service Marketplace.
Once that's done it's about 3 hours for each successive NW AS Java installation and about 5 minutes for the xMII v12 deployment and finished off at around 5GBs of space.
This is all in the guide I am putting together along with a "High-Availability" section which is adding some extra time to it's release but I can guarantee it's worth the wait!

UDS install on Vista (Ultimate)

I have installed UDS 4.0 on vista ultimate. There were no error messages during the installation process.
However, it does not let me create a UDS instance. It gives an exception (xml like) error message.
I repeated the same steps on my XP professional laptop, and it seems wo work well.
I have a local matrikon instance to connect to on both machines.
Has anybody been successful at making UDS work on Vista ?
