UEV slow on VPN - UEV application going to home drive

Hi Folks..
We are doing a pilot UEV testing. We have pilot users who used roaming profile so now we have removed roaming profile from thier user account and configured folder redirection and UEV for them.
All the settings both app and windows are captured and travelled from systems to systems but we are seeing issue while on VPN... When these test UEV users open any aplication, for eg. office 2010 when we open it is
reaching in to the home drive where we have the appdata been redirected using folder redirection.
You can see this reporting when launching.  Hence the performance degrades. Any assistance in this reagrds is appreciated.

Hi Ithsme,
You should check out UE-V 2.0. We have made some improvements in how we handle synchronization. Including removing the need for folder redirection. Instead we built into UE-V the ability to cache locally and then push to the central server on a heartbeat
driven by a scheduled task.  This SyncMethod=SyncProvider and is the new default when you install UE-V 2.0.
Let me know what you think of the new product.

  • Bug: Navigation: Save As Dialog Boxes in Windows (thus any application) goes to Computer Drive C - instead of Quick Access

Bug: Navigation: Save As Dialog Boxes in Windows (thus any application) still have its legacy behavior implemented and navigates to a computer drive, by preselecting and letting the user start at Computer > Drive C - instead of Quick Access.
This is simply a forgotten correction after Quick Access has been introduced that needs to be corrected for Quick Access to work effectively (in a valuable way for the user) with files not just during create and modify operations on files - but also Open
file - using File Dialog Boxes (although users may use launch instead for Opening files using i.e. Explorer or navigation from shortcuts on the desktop).
This missing change of File Dialog Box behavior is unintended and now contradicts the new design with Quick Access for faster navigation (so you should not have to start with a scroll and extra navigation to look for Quick Access (contradiction:
    i.e. QUICK Access)
Please support the new navigation provided by Quick Access intended to give Quick Access - thus Save As must be able to start here.
For variability, may be provide an overriding option in Explorer>Folder Options>General (if you change the default behaviour in the File Dialogue) to have Save As start at Computer > Drive C.
! Remember to do the change for the Common File Dialog as well - used by most widespread software applications in the Adobe software applications portfolio, i.e. Adobe Photoshop CS6

Thank you for your time and response! Unfortunately, we have the machine locked down pretty tight (they are public use computers that require heavy restriction) and it is set to restrict all drives so access is limited to the local profile. We did try
testing your method, however, by adding the Desktop as an allowed location in the Office policy (which would not solve the issue for the other applications but was good for a test) using the path %userprofile%\desktop. When choosing that location, it does
not throw the error but unfortunately, it does not remember like it did for your with the E: drive so it still always throws the error when first loading the dialogue box no matter what I do. If you're able to confirm that this is simply by design and we're
just expected to inform our users to click through the errors, then I guess that's the accepted answer. Although, do you think that there might be a registry key value that is set after you save to the E: drive for the first time? Maybe we could set that value
to %userprofile%\desktop if it's doing the redirection after the first save through registry. Thanks again!

  • Data Services Designer - Very Slow on VPN

    Hello,
Any idea why Data Services Designer is very slow and many a times goes into Not Responding state. I'm using this client tool to connect to the Data Services Repository + Servers via VPN.
It takes few minutes to load the jobs or to save the changes. Some times hangs.
Wanted to know if anyone is facing similar issues, and any workaround/setup changes to eliminate these delays...
    Regards,
    Madan
Edited by: Madan Mohan Reddy Zollu on Mar 12, 2010 9:24 AM

Data Services Designer is communicating with the repo (to store/retrieve objects) and the jobserver (to execute jobs and get status/log files) so if there is a slow network connection, response time in the Designer could become problematic.
One way to solve this is use CITRIX or terminal services to have your Designer close to the database and only screens are send over the slow connection. In the Windows installation guide there is a chapter that documents how to setupDesigner in a (multi-user) Citrix environment.

  • Slow start up for applications in Mac Mini

Beginning last week all of my most important applications in my 2010 Mac Mini have been slow to start up. Safari takes two minutes to start. MS Word for Mac 2011 takes two minutes, forty seconds to start.  I had never timed these applications before, but I know that each took well under a minute to start.
After the applications start, they operate with the same speed as normal.
This startup problem began at the same time that my Messages application conked out.  With the advice that I got here in the Apple Support Forums, I did two tasks to try to repair Messages.
First I started up in Safe Mode and ran Disk Utility.  “Repair Disk” reported no problem with the hard drive.  “Repair Permissions” spent a long time (over five minutes, IIRC) repairing permissions in many appplications that I never use.  Most of the changes were in iBooks.  I doubt that I have ever turned on that application in this computer. “Repair Permissions” did not repair any permissions in Messages, Word, and, IIRC, Safari.
I report this history with Disk Utility, because I see in other threads a recommendation to try this technique for slow applications.
Second, I logged out of my account in Messages and logged back in.  Doing so restored the function of Messages but had no effect, as far as I can tell, on the speed of start up of my applications.
My hard drive is nowhere being full.  Trash is empty.  I doubt that there is a problem with crowding the RAM, as the problem occurs only when starting the applications.  Once the applications are running, I have found no problems no matter how many applications are running.  Software Update reports everything is up to date.  Software Update did download an update to the Twitter application two days before the present problem arose; I do not know if there is a connection. The problem arose one morning like any other morning when I started the computer.
Any guesses as to what is wrong?   TIA

    Application Type: Flex Mobile Application
    Target Platform: iPad
    AIR Version: 4.0
    Development Environment: Flash builder 4.6
I want to run some code just before iphone application goes into background. I need function similar to didEnterBackground
    of native xcode app
    (https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/UIKit/Reference/UIApplicationDelegat e_Protocol/Reference/Reference.h
    tml#//apple_ref/occ/intfm/UIApplicationDelegate/applicationDidEnterBackground:)
I tried using devactivated function of flash.display.STAGE.
    I used following addEventListener:
    STAGE = this.parent.stage;
    STAGE.addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE, onAppDeactivated);
It worked for me but only when device is connected to development environment in debug mode. When I create my release build
    it is not working.
So how can I make sure that my code runs before application goes into background.

  • IPhoto application goes away

    IPhoto application goes away.
I have 10.2.8 17" iMac I get upgrades, but have had iPhoto crash log twice. Pictures are still on computer. Just can't open them. What am I doing wrong.
    Pat

First guess is a corrupt preference (plist) file. Drag the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the Preferences folder to the trash.
If iPhoto still doesn't load, then I'd suspect a corrupt album. You can verify by temporarily dragging the folder named "Albums" from the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop. If iPhoto starts (you'll notice most of the albums gone), either be happy and make new albums, or quit iPhoto and move the albums folder back. Start iPhoto and immediately hold down the commandoptionshift keys (for iPhoto 4) or option+shift keys (for iPhoto 2), to rebuild the library database.
iPhoto 4 is known to occasionally crash at the end of the rebuild process, but relaunching iPhoto usually finds everything in order. Corrupt albums will have been discarded.

It's very likely that your boot drive is failing. Back up all data immediately and schedule a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • Slow changing dimensions in application express GUI

I need some kind of slow changing dimensions for application express GUI in order to be able
    1) simply allow users to edit 1 row for 1 object in APEX GUI
    2) widely use historical data in reporting.
    I.E.:
Client's Last name (address, etc) was changed. I need to show in reports two points: before change and after:
    ID Name Order_date Amount
    12 Clark 1/1/10 500
    12 Johnson 5/1/10 200
    Are there common solutions?

There are probably a few approaches you can take:
    1) Fine Grained Auditing (FGA) - very extensive and can be completely customized.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14266/cfgaudit.htm#sthref1766
    2) Triggers - if you have basic needs on a few tables/columns, it may be easier to just roll your own trigger. You can compare the :old to the :new value, and if they differ, write both to your own auditing table.

When surfing or working on my iPad mini, frequently my applications close and it goes the home screen.  This problem started about a week ago.  I did do a hard reset.

Make sure you do not leave a lot of apps open in the iOS multitasking bar.
Dbl click the Home button, look to see now many apps that are still active in the multitask bar.
You can safely quit some of these by holding your finger on one app until all the icons wiggle.
Tap the red dash in the upper left corner to quit each app from running. Then just tap anywhere else on the iPad's screen or single click the Home button to stop the wiggling and close the Multitask bar.
    Good Luck!

  • Transfer Library/Application Support to another drive?

    Background:
I've got time ago a SSD drive, which is 90 GB, for my Mac Pro. I've decided to use it as startup
I've installed just the OS (Lion), and then I've used a regular HDD (500 Gb) as "home", so my desktop, music, documents and such does not go to clutter the small SSD drive.
Now thou, after about a year, I've almost filled that SSD, and I was wondering how is it possible.
    First problem!  The Application folder
STuff downloaded from the store goes in that folder by default, and there is no option in the store to say "save the download here, and when I checl for update check there".
Told myself: this is easy, is  OSX! So I just made an Application folder on the drive where I have my home directoy, and copied most of the software that I don't use often, or that would not benefit from being on a SSD drive.
Now some works, but some other introduced the
Second problem! Library/Application support has a bunch of data that you cannot move.
Software like Garageband, Adobe, Logic and many others, save data there (which in some cases means GB and GB of data), which you cannot move, or the program won't run, or give errors because files are missing.
So, is there any way to tell OSX that I want this data somewhere else? The single app has no control over it, and I am not sure if this is even possible.
I want to move only some of these huge folders out of /Library/Application Support, so if I can selectively move folders would be great; otherwise I am just fine in moving the whole thing out to the regular drive...altho in part you loose the advantage of the SSD speed in this way, since every software will have to go to the other slower drive, to load config and main data.
Any suggestion is more than welcome!

    Thanks for your reply.
Indeed that's exactly what I said. I am aware that the programs does not work, if I move the content, since I have already experimented various solutions.
And as final attempt I asked here to see if there is some way to achieve what I want: move selectively data out of the application support, on another drive.
I could buy a bigger one, but that would just postpone the same issue; to me the more logic solution is to ask the user where do they want to save their data, but so far I think that only FC asks it (I may be wrong; I installed these software quite some time ago).
As now I run without problem the system, even if my home is on a slower disk; my main objective is to have a quick boot and to speed up some software that I use the most, and so far everything works fine. The problem is just the space
After all OSX is Unix, there must be a way to create some sort of symlink that would make the OS happy, that's the only road that I ddn't pursue yet, but I would gladly avoid to do such a hack, to not cause disruption to the OS (it is a joy to use it, never crash or fail, so why pull the carpet under it's feet ? )

  • Error on Mac: couldn't write  the application to the hard drive

A Mac user can load the Connect meeting interface but when he
tries to share screen he gets a pop-up that says:
"Couldn't write the application to the hard drive. Please
verify the hard disk is available" with options to retry or cancel.
    On retry same error.
Any idea of what is going on and how to fix it?
    thanks

    Hi rpembroke,
I don't know if this will help you or not.  I found the fix for me, for this problem and several others I was having.
I created, or I should say, since I am still working on this, a new user account.  Once I created a new account and tried to install no more can't install to harddrive. Many of the other problems I was having are now gone also.
I am in the process of moving over just what I need as far as apps, docs, book marks etc... So far everything is working fine. So you can try creating a new account and see.
    Hope this works for you.

  • IPhone goes to home screen while surfing

while in safari surfing, my iPhone auto goes to home screen. What's the problem? It is a pain while composing emails or even this MSG as it usually causes me to have to log back in and start over

When it goes back to the home screen that means the application has crashed. Try going to settings - safari and empty caches/cookies/etc to see if this will correct the issue.

  • Installing Applications on external FireWire drive - a good idea?

    Hello,
I'm planing in using a MacBook Pro with 128GB SSD. The idea is to install only essential stuff and store other things on an external FireWire 800-enabled HDD.
How big is the general difference in acces/transmission times compared to an internal generic HDD? And is the performace sufficient to even run applications from that external drive, should I run out of space on the SSD?
Will I spot a significant difference if I'm for example editing videos where all the files and the workspace are on that external drive while only Adobe Premiere is installed on the SSD?

Is the firewire drive new? Do you have any data on it? I am guessing the answers are Yes and No. If this is the case, the drive is probably formatted wrong for the Mac Pro. Depending on the manufacturer, the drive may be formated in FAT (for windows) or as Apple Partition Map. APM is for booting PowerPC (G3, G4, and G5 Macs). You have a Mac Pro and the drive needs to have a GUID partition. Drives without a GUID partition will not be recognized as valid targets in the installer.
If you follow the rest of this thread, and you have data on the firewire drive, it will be lost unless you back it up. That is your warning. To reformat the drive, do this:
    1: Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
2: In the left column there will be a list of the drives and volumes available on the machine. The drive is listed first and the volume is indented beneath it. Select the Firewire drive, not its volume
3: On the right panel, select the Partition tab
4: Change the Volume Scheme setting from Current to One Partition
5: Give the new volume you are going to create a name
    6: Press the Options button
7: There are three choices, GUID, APM, and MBR. Choose GUID since this is an Intel system. Press OK.
8: Press the Apply button - THIS WILL DELETE ALL DATA ON THE FIREWIRE DRIVE
Now reboot from the installation CD and perform the installation.
I will say however, that a drive with a boot OS on it is nice, but kind of useless. Isn't your data a little more important? Since you are not on Leopard, you might want to consider using ASR (the Restore tab in Disk Utility) to periodically clone your main volume to the backup volume. Then, not only do you have a bootable second drive but you also have all your data and personal settings. For extra credit go check out http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
    Hope this helps
