Ugh, New(est) Nano Plus Firmware sti

It removes the ability to record from FM, and basically gives us nothing else.
I highly recommend not installing.

Well I think its pretty obvious, to be in compliance with the DMCA or whatever other bill "stealing" music from the radio would be in conflict with.
I love how they slip it in in the changelog too, its the last entry and its line. "Removes FM recording feature."

  • Wondering About Nano Plus Firmware, E

    Hi All,
I have a newer Nano Plus (about 6 weeks old) and a Vision W, and my firmware is a newer version than the version offered for download on the Creative Support website. Recently, we have read a lot of complaints about Nano Plus firmware causing problems and ruined players. I wonder why Creative doesn't put their newest version on their support website? I wonder how many people with newer firmware (such as I have) might have unknowingly updated the firmware on their Nano Plus with the older version? I wonder if a lot of problems and a lot of bad publicity for Creative would be solved if Creative would just put the most recent version on their Support site? What if I needed to update my firmware? Currently, I would be stuck with only an older version to use that might really mess up my player.
My guess is that those working the Creative Support Helpdesk have told management that this firmware needs to be updated on the Support website, but management has refused to listen to their Helpdesk workers, who are struggling to solve problems that management could so easily solve by ordering those in charge of their servers to make the most recent firmware available to customers. So, as I see it, the problems people are having with their players is really a problem with Creative management and not the players or those working the Creative Helpdesk. I think if Creative employees could actually communicate with their managers, many of our problems would have been solved long ago. I wonder how customers can communicate with management, for management holds the solution.
    All the best,

PeeBee you are the man for your post in this thread:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...d=279272#M6263
All this is Creative's doing, though, for their lackluster support for their own product. In one thread they specifically say <EM>Zen Nano Plus has no recovery mode</EM>. Why does it take non-Creative staff such as yourself to call them out and help with these issues? My friend's dad had to take time out of his day to dri've back to Best Buy to exchange it (TWICE). If only Creative would administer care in their own product support then threads centered around Creative's MP3 players being beat down by their own firmware wouldn't have over a thousand thread views each by people looking for retribution for a piece of junk they think they wasted their money on.
Thank you, PeeBee. I, on the other hand, am investing in Apple next time due to lost faith, faith that has been religiously stood by since the beginning days of Dr. Sbaitso. If this thread gets deleted rather than replied to by a mod, admin, or Creative staff member then it means I'm right.

This firmware upgrade only works with Creative Zen Nano Plus players. Do not install this upgrade for other players.
You will lose all content in your player when you install the firmware. Back up any audio or data files in your player to your computer before upgrading the firmware.
To install this firmware upgrade, do the following:
Download the ZenNanoPlus_PCFW_LF__03_02.exe file into your local hard disk.
Connect your player to your computer.
    Double-click the firmware upgrade file.
When prompted to set your player in Recovery mode, disconnect your player from your computer.
Press and hold the Play button while connecting your player to your computer's USB port.
Continue to hold the Play button for about 0 seconds after connecting your player to your computer.
Release the Play button when the Find New Hardware dialog box appears on the computer screen.
Follow the instructions on the screen to install recovery drivers for your player.
Double-click the firmware upgrade file and follow the instructions on the screen.</LI>

I went ahead and updated it anyway. One little thing I noticed was now the volume only goes up to 25 like my Zen Touch instead of 40 or whatever that it did before. Same loudness, different numbers only. Other than that, I have not noticed anything different, but it seemed to work OK scrolling through a song with the old firmware. I did not, obviously, do a detailed comparison.

  • Creative Zen Nano Plus Firmware Problem, AGAIN! (PeeBee HEL

    Hi all,
I am new here and have read all the posts and FAQ's but couldn't solve my problem. Actually there is a post http://forums.creative.com/creativel...d=68923#M07024 which tells exactly my problem. Have tried the solution but didn't solve it.
So I am here asking again.
I bought a zen nano plus GB and downloaded the latest firmware(ZenNanoPlus_PCFW_LF__0_03.exe) and the latest mass storage driver (MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe). When I put the player in recovery mode as the firmware is detecting devices the player takes it self out of recovery mode and back in mass storage mode how do i stop it from down that?
I am trying to update it because my player doesn't play wma files :angry:I have tried PeeBee's solution but it didn't work. I have taken the battery out, reconnected it and it is recognized in recovery mode. I run the firmware and the computer plays a sound, the icon of connection appears in the nano's lcd and it is out of recovery mode. Then firmware program tells me that the 'device state is not set' and after that the message 'put into recovery mode before updating firmware' Aaaaaarrrrrghhhh!
I'm also running windows XP SP2
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you in advance

    Hello-
I had a similar situation develop. Did your error message say, "Media state not initialized?" Here is what the creative support site says:
If you receive a message "Media State is not initialized ..." while updating firmware for a MuVo or Zen Nano Plus player, it will be necessary to install the Player Recovery Device driver and then update the firmware.
. Download the latest driver if you have not done so. You can download it from http://us.creative.com/support/downloads, and file name is MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe.
    2. Install the latest driver by double clicking on the file name.
    3. Unplug the player from a computer if it is plugged.
    4. Remove the battery from the player (except Zen Zeeon which has a built-in battery).
    5. Press and hold the Play button while connecting the player to the USB port.
    6. Continue to hold the Play button for about 0 seconds after connecting your player is connected to the USB port.
    7. Keep on holding the Play button till Windows displays the Find New Hardware dialog box.
    8. If this is the first time a player is installed as Player Recovery Device, Windows will find a Player Recovery Device (or USB Device), and prompt you for drivers. Click on No, and select "Do not search. I will choose the driver to install". Windows will install the drivers automatically.
    9. Double click on the latest firmware upgrade file that you have downloaded previously, and follow the instructions on the screen.
    0. Format the player if you are prompted to do so.
It is recommended that you stop your player properly before physically disconnect it from your PC.
To stop your player in Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows ME
Click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Taskbar, click Safely remove USB mass Storage device, and disconnect your play when you are prompted to do so.
To stop your player in Windows 98SE
Make sure that the icon below appears on the LCD screen again for at least fi've seconds before disconnecting your player.
Now, I did all of the above and still got the error. What solved the problem finally was to connect (using the above method - remove the battery - hold the switch, etc) to a DIFFERENT USB port. Then all worked well, and the firmware transferred. Don't ask me how or why.
    Good luck.

  • Zen Nano PLUS - Firmware Broke My Ze

    Please help me .
I have read through countless threads here looking for the answer on what to do when...
...your Zen Nano Plus is passed warranty, you install the latest firmware, and your player is no longer readable by your USB ports.
Before I tried upgrading the firmware it would detect it as what it was -- a Zen Nano Plus. Now, however, I plug it in and I <EM>don't even get a notification that Windows detects it even so much as a generic device</EM>.
Everyone says: <EM>Revert back to an older version of firmware.</EM>
Question: HOW DO I ACCOMPLISH THIS WHEN ) I CAN'T TURN MY PLAYER ON AND 2) IT IS NOT BEING READ WHEN I PLUG IT IN?
Sorry about the caps, but I feel Creative is about to let me down after all these years. Did I waste money on this thing or is there an actual solution that works?
My friend's dad had this exact same problem. He took it back and exchanged it for another Zen Nano Plus <EM>and it did the same thing agan</EM>.
    Thanks in advance.
PS - Thanks to Creative for being acti've in these forums and trying to help their customers who have given Creative their hard earned money that they earned working at a job.

  • Zen Nano Plus firmware upgrade to 1.14

I just tried to update the firmware to .4.03 and in the process said it would restart the mp3 player. Upon doing so the unit now is dead and will not turn on at all. I tried the recovery for flash players and nothing will make it turn on. Has anyone else seen this happento their unit after trying to upgrade the firmware Any help of what to try next would be appreciated but I did try to hit the play button many times while plugging into the computer with no luck. That did not work. The unit will not turn on now at all after trying to do the firmware upgrade. Thanks. SR

I just fixed my Nano Plus using this website from CL.
Goto the Knowledge Base and key in this Solution ID: 265 Worked great. Thanks, SR

  • Zen Nano Plus: How to resolve issues with installing firmware 1.14

So .... I managed to kill my Zen Nano Plus when installing firmware version .4.03, but fortunately I've managed to bring it back to life again. :-)
Here's what I did wrong, and how you can avoid the mistakes that I made ...
I attempted to install the newly released "Creative ZEN Nano Plus Firmware .4.03" from my Windows 2000 system. However, I had not previously installed the "Creative Mass Storage Driver .07.00.250". In fact there seemed to be no reason to install these mass storage drivers as the Nano Plus player was always recognized by my system. However, while installing the firmware upgrade, it seems that the player is set to recovery mode and therefore the mass storage driver needs to be installed prior to upgrading the firmware.
I realized this partway through the firmware upgrade when prompted for the "StMp3Rec.sys" driver. I then successfully installed the mass storage driver then attempted to continue with the firmware upgrade. Unfortunately, the firmware software "froze" and the process had to be killed. My Nano Plus player now wouldn't turn on and my system would not recognize it. I then read how to set the player in recovery mode, and was able to see the player listed as "STMP3500" when examining my attached USB hardware (using the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" dialog).
To install the driver, I then looked at all hardware in my "Device Manager" (right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", choose the "Hardware" tab, click on the "Device Manager" button) then selected the "STMP3500" device. Right clicking and selecting "Properties" (or double clicking) brings up the properties dialog and from there I chose the "Reinstall Driver" button. I specified the driver location: "C:\Program Files\Creative\Creative Mass Storage Drivers\StMp3Rec.sys" and the driver then successfully installed. Finally, I successfully installed the firmware upgrade and all is now working well.
    Here's the bottom line:
Be sure to install the "Creative Mass Storage Driver .07.00.250" prior to upgrading to the "Creative ZEN Nano Plus Firmware .4.03".
Maybe it is because I beta tested six or seven different Rio MP3 player models (until D&M Holdings discontinued the Rio brand), or because I have worked as a software developer for eight years - but I tend not to install any software that does not appear to be required. The Creative firmware upgrade software could be greatly improved by including a simple check to see if the Creative mass storage drivers are installed before accessing the player.

This has been answered many times here. Delete a few files on the player. Create a few folders on the player. Move the songs on the player into the folders. Now add more songs to the player into the folders. There is a limit on how many items the player will allow in the root.

  • Volume level ZEN NANO PLUS, can it be chang

I have a new ZEN NANO PLUS that I have bought in Spain.
I?ve had this model before and I know that, because of the EU ruling ( **bleep** those bureaucrats! ), the volume level is not as loud as the model you can buy in the US.
A few people have suggested flashing the firmware and installing the US firmware, has anyone tried this, and did they have any success?
I downloaded the US firmware and tried to install it on my player but no luck, and the player died aswell, but I?m not sure if I did the correct thing...
If anyone knows anything about this any info would be greatly received.
    Thanks in advance
    Neil

You shouldn't have problem using both player together in MediaSource even in transferring audio files(non-protected content). Are you referring to being able to playback PlayForSure subscription content? I doubt it is possible(personal opinion) for the player since I believe it's more to do with the hardware rather than software.

  • Zen Nano Plus transfer prob

Am having trouble transferring .wma files to my Zen Nano Plus even though it has 590MB free. When I try to transfer anything using Creative Source I keep getting a "transfer error" message. Have tried reorganising files into folders to cut down on memory used in the root folder - but it doesn't seem to help. It's even stopped letting me transfer between folders. Has anyone else had this problem.. Anyone know what to do??

I'm having the exact same problem with my Nano Plus, and I've only had it for a little over 3 months. I contacted technical support and they told me to download the Firmware update and gave me these directions:
    Zen Nano Plus Firmware Update:
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?Product=2720&dlcentric=9423&Product_ Name=ZEN+Nano+Plus&OSName=Windows+XP
To install this firmware upgrade, do the following:
    - Connect your player to your computer.
    - Double-click the firmware upgrade file.
    - When prompted to set your player in Recovery mode, disconnect your player from your computer.
    - Press and hold the Play button while connecting your player to your computer's USB port.
    - Continue to hold the Play button for about 0 seconds after connecting your player to your computer.
    - Release the Play button when the "Find New Hardware" dialog box appears on the computer screen.
    - Follow the instructions on the screen to install recovery drivers for your player.
    - Double-click the firmware upgrade file and follow the instructions on the screen. Ensure to select the "Format Data Area" option within the Update.
However, at step 6 my computer did not recognize my player with it being on and neither did the Firmware. I responded to Technical Support and told them this. They said it seemed like it needed repaired or replaced! Even though there is a -year warranty, there is only a 3 month labor warranty, which means if you send it in to get fixed and it has passed the 3-month labor warranty, you have to pay a $24.95 diagnostics and handling fee. If you're in this situation, they said the best thing to do is try to exchange it wherever you bought it first. I hope this helps!

  • Zen Nano Plus bricked by Recovery Tool?

Re: Books on Cd I went ahead and attempt to install the latest firmware upgrade. At this time the upgrade seems to be progressing.
Okay. The player has successfully booted up
Success. After removing Windows Media Player , I was able to install the latest firmware upgrade. I have several follow-up questions. Most important question is #
. I wonder why the Zen Micro Media Explorer is not available to me. It is all grayed out. Any suggestions on how to get it to work
    2. Is the Zen Micro Media Explorer a logical substitute to employing the Windows Media Player 0 It seems to have everything I need .
    3. How am I able to create a new playlist in the device if I cannot access this application
    4. When I select Playlist on the device, I see a message that says: To create a playlist select from the Now Playing context menuWhat is that all about and where do I roam to do this
Thanks very much for your help
Richard One of my new Zen Nano Plus appears to have been bricked by my use of the Recovery Tool, when it was misbehaving. This happended before with another Zen Nano Plus we had, but we fixed that over a year ago and it works fine now.
Actuallly, it's one of 6 my family has - plus we have lots of other Creative products (a Micro, Zen, Vado, X Mod etc). While its almost brand new, its was purchased on eBay in 2008.
Usually the first thing is to update the firmware, and tried the Recovery Tool hoping it had been updated - but now my Zen Nano Plus dows not turn on or get connected, and I tried to PCs and several USB cords and various USB connections.
I undertand a Zen Nano Plus does not have a Recovery Mode but did try usual method.
. Remove the battery, and press & hold the Play button will connectiong to the PC.
    2. Keep pressing play for about 0 second until the New Hardware Wizard starts - that will only happen the first time.
    3. Completete the New Hardware Wizard
I believe it may need to be reformatted, but is not totally bricked and can be repaired.

<SPAN>This is obviously a problem and they have their head in the sand. And it irks me when companies do this; release a product that is faulty and let their customers sort it out.
<SPAN>I suggest a thread that logs the problems with respect to each device.
    <SPAN>Example:
    <SPAN>Thread: Zen Nano Plus Problems:
    <SPAN><SPAN>)<SPAN> <SPAN>connection problems: 493
    <SPAN><SPAN>2)<SPAN> <SPAN>Automatically powering off problems: 327
    <SPAN><SPAN>3)<SPAN> <SPAN>Etc
<SPAN>Each person could add their one occurrence to the running total and someone could sort through and actually find the number of occurrences a problem happens. This can get a company to own up to larger design and QC issues which they shove out the door to boost the bottom line.
<SPAN>But what do I know, I just stumbled upon this site googling ?Zen Nano Plus Connection Problems?
<SPAN>I'm moving on now and thank everyone for their help.
    <SPAN>Best of luck,D

the muvo n200 is rename as the zen nano plus, so they are basically the same player.
Two extra colours (whoo), and apparently another 2 or 3 hours of battery life (then again, the MuVo did exceed the 5 hours stated in all it's reviews, so no change)
They were rebranded due to the Zen being piece models, and the MuVos being 2 part models.
