Update the [[Flash]] plugin to the latest version.
    See http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
You can try if it works if you disable OOPP (Out-Of-Process-Plugins).
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
You can set the prefs dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.* to false on the about:config page to disable the plugin-container process.
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled (currently false by default)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll (Flash)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll (Silverlight)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll (QuickTime)
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

    Dear Firefox:
I am not amused with the pac-man music. I spent the entire trying to find a virus on my computer. I might have tolerated this as an April Fool's joke, but this "celebration" was completely unnecessary!
And to others trying to fix the problem ... I just uninstalled Cool Previews and that did the trick. No more bat-shit-crazy pac-man music.

  • How to get back bookmarks in a folder (on toolbar) which have been lost after starting Firefox?

This evening I started Firefox as usual and notice that the folder which I kept ~40 odd bookmarks had disappeared. I thought this was strange as it has always been there since I downloaded Firefox on to my computer last year; plus it was there when I started up Firefox earlier in the day.
This folder was on the bookmark toolbar. On my bookmark toolbar I also had other bookmarks which were not in the folder and they are still there when I went on Firefox. I tried to restore to an earlier time when I did have this folder but each time the folder does not re-appear but the bookmarks not in the folder are still there. I also did this in safe mode and got the same result. I did not try any backups as I didn't keep any (this will teach me to do so!).
I don't know if anyone can help me and I know there might be little chance for them to be restored but if you can I'll be grateful. Thanks.

    View ("Alt+V") > Toolbars > (check) Bookmarks
also make sure you are not in full screen mode, toggled on/off with "F11".
If none of those were the problem check to see if you have bookmarks than can be restored from the bookmarks library ("Ctrl+Shift+B") > Import and Backup > Restore > (you should have a choice of at least 5 backups). Not having that choice of five would probably mean that you created a new profile when you updated your Firefox.

  • Firefox 3.6.8 fails to load any page if I open Outlook2003 after starting Firefox. Outlook also fails to send/receive although I am able to load pages in another browser. These problems do not seem to occur if I open Outlook first and then firefox.

I have used Firefox and outlook for years, but this is a recent problem. I can't recall if it started after the latest Firefox update or not. Firefox seems to work fine until I open Outlook. Then it is impossible to load any pages; the loading icon appears and persists indefinately. The only way to load pages is to shut down and restart my pc. Simply exiting and reopening Firefox does not work.
Additionally, the send/recieve process in outlook fails. My ISP has checked my line and there is no fault. I have confirmed this, since I am able to access the internet on another browser while Firefox is hanging.
I have tried disabling add-ons, clearing the cache and checked connection settings (I use system proxy settings), but the problem persists.
I'd be grateful for any help.

I am a newby. Have never used firefox. The type is too small for me to read. I added an add-on and was able to increase the font size in the menu bar etc. but browser windows opened through Google are still too small to read. How do I increase the size? I am using IE9 and a 23" monitor.

  • After starting firefox, I cannot visit any website or see anything but a grey screen where the website should be.

I opened FireFox to browse the internet and after clicking on FireFox the brower screen split into 2 different screens for a period of about 5 seconds then went back to just 1 screen. After returning back to one screen the browser screen then turned grey. I cannot see anything except the buttons to minimize, maximize, or close FireFox. Cannot type in a website to visit or anything.

Opening in the sidebar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.<br />
You can check the Properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the sidebar (Ctrl+B; Command+B on Mac).<br />
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.<br />
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected.<br />
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I tried to "repair" them ,but no luck. Can someone point me what should i do? I know that autohinting or subpikxel could help but i dont know where/how turn it on/off.

  • My tabs will not restore after starting Firefox -- even with the option to restore my tabs and windows is checked in the "options" window. I'm losing tabs from previous sessions that I need to keep open every time I need to restart. Thanks for any advice!

Is there something else I need to tweak to get rid of this annoyance instead of simply clicking the check box? I'm losing tabs from previous sessions that I need to keep open every time I need to restart. Thanks for any advice!

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Ver. 17.0.1, Win 7, within an hour after starting Firefox, Firefox completely closes then reopens after 2-3 seconds.

This problem is not associated with a particular website or anything else. When Firefox ends itself, the icon in the task bar disappears and when it reopens the icon is back in the task bar. Firefox always comes back in 2-3 seconds to the same place where it was when it closed. This happens only once per session. I don't think it happens every session.
I can't tell when this started. I have not made upgrades to my computer other than what Firefox has done. I have run virus scans, etc....no help.

    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
