Ugly titles

I'm trying to put the finishing titles on my project but it comes up distorted when I export to Compressor. My project is DVC Pro-NTSC, and the credits were done with the "type writer" function. When I play the movie in Final Cut it looks fine, but once exported lots of lines distort the image and it looks very unsteady. The Final Cut User Manual recommends using bold font, a non-white or black color, and only several specific fonts. I tried this and it still didn't work. However, I would like to use a white font plus the "Americana Typewriter" font, both of which are not recommended by the manual. Is there any way of doing this?

I'm going to guess that you are viewing the file produced by Compressor in QuickTime Player.
What you are seeing is the result of viewing interlaced video on a flat panel computer monitor.
What is the intended end result of your project -a DVD, the web, something else?
There's something you can do for the moment:
With the file open in QuickTime Player, press the command and J keys to bring up the Properties window. Click on *Video Track* in the list at the top, then *Visual Settings*. At the bottom right corner, you will see three checkboxes. Activate *High Quality* and Deinterlace.
Does that look better?
Don't save the file in this format yet, we still need to know what the end result is going to be.
You can activate the High Quality selection permanently by going to the menu bar:
QuickTime Player > Preferences > General > Always use high quality video setting.
There's nothing technically wrong with using the American Typewriter font.
Generally, Serif fonts and others with thin, delicate strokes should be avoided -although they can still look good at larger sizes. If your main goal is high legibility at smaller sizes stick with San-Serif typefaces.
Serifs are the little flares on the end of letters. These fine details can easily be lost and break up on a television screen.
A well known example of a Serif font is Times.
A well known example of a San-Serif font is Helvetica.

  • Titles are jagged and ugly!

When I make titles in iMovie over black, they look fine when I just play it in the iMovie player. But when I export it into Quicktime, even when I do "Full Quality," all of the titles become very jagged and it just looks bad. Is there any way to get crisp, smooth titles once I export into Quicktime?

I actually did figure out what to do, and the movie looks great in DV. But the next step was for me to export to Sorenson 3, and when I did that the titles go back to looking bad. I know that it's possible to get good titles with Sorenson 3 because I have seen many with great titles. What should I do now?

  • Why is my MacBook device title in Finder changing/increasing in number (2), (3) etc?

Since upgrading to Yosemite(please forgive me if I use incorrect terminology here) I have noticed the device title for my MacBook keeps changing. Normally is is "N**** Ca********'s MacBook Pro", but keeps changing to "N**** Ca********'s MacBook Pro (2)" and "N**** Ca********'s MacBook Pro (3)". The screen also expands to full screen sometimes and appears to move to desktops to the right of the original screen. When I close a screen it appears to slide away and back to the normal desktop. I ahve also noticed on my iphone that iTunes wifi Sync is showing Apps syncing from "N**** Ca********'s MacBook Pro (2)" and Books/Music syncing from "N**** Ca********'s MacBook Pro (3)". Can anyone advice how I get back to "N**** Ca********'s MacBook Pro" only, as I don;t know why (2) & (3) have appeared!

I have exactly the same problem. I had before before Mavericks, then without logging out the iCloud, I made a clean installation of Yosemite by wiping out the disk. The host name ends up with the ugly numbering.
I found the following workaround. In "System Preference" -> "Sharing", remove the ugly numbering in Computer Name.
This will change the appearance inside Finder sidebar, Find My iPhone etc.
But this only lasts for a few sessions. It will be changed eventually to the numbering suffix, for unknown reasons.

  • Ugliness in App Store

I'm posting this hoping someone at the developing team will please have a look at their own creations.
In App Store under Top 25 the button in upper left corner has a text line (Top Paid iPhone Apps) that is longer than the size of the button. That sort of faults you might expect from Microsoft, but it's way under Apples standard.
Also, under Updates, when all apps are up to date the text reads: "All Apps Are Up to Date." Why all this capitalization?? You can only justify this when it's a headline or a title, but this is just a simple piece of information.
As you might have gathered english is not my primary language, but I am able to see that things like that are not only ugly, but also incorrect.
I hope this will be changed in future updates.

  • IOS 4 update on 3GS: Album Artwork/author/title missing in some places

Okay, I just updated my 3GS to iOS4 with no dramas, except for the iPod app.
    Basically, in Albums mode:
    - any album that wasn't from the iTunes Store (i.e. a CD rip) doesn't display its album artwork thumbnail, either in the list view or the new album summary info panel shown above the track listing when you click the album
    - in addition, the new album summary panel shows “Unknown Artist” and “Unknown Album” even though the page before (the full Albums list) did in fact show the artist and album title
    - however, clicking on a track will in fact show the correct album artwork while the track is playing
In addition, in Cover Flow mode:
    - not only do the above affected albums also appear with no artwork,
    - but also clicking on them shows *no tracks* at all (whereas they do show up in Albums mode and are successfully playable).
What the?! Anyone else found this? Seems to affect both MP3 and AAC ripped formats (and btw they are legal imports of my own CDs).

I have a similar problem. All of my music won't show the album artwork, and some will even show artwork of a Genius Mix. I rotate to Cover Flow, and everything seems fine there; all of the artwork shows up and the songs are all there. But once I flip to portrait and the Now Playing screen, that artwork disappears and I'm left with that prosaic gray musical note or an ugly Genius Mix artwork with four of my original artworks arranged in a 2-by-2 grid. I set iTunes so that it wouldn't sync my music anymore, synced my iPod, turned music back on, and then synced my iPod again, essentially removing music and putting it back on my device, as the abovementioned suggests.

  • Titles templates a different between MAC and Windows

Adobe is very incompetent on delivering content. My company is considering moving to the windows version, so we create this Windows server to host only Premiere Pro CS6. Well, the Titles are not there (trial version), so we download the file, unzip it, and copied it to the right place. But we discover that the CS6 Mac Version has a very different list of titles templates, so we simply cannot do our work in Windows. Furthermore, what several have noticed is true. The window fails to scroll or preview correctly, and the majority of the titles are ugly, not like in the MAC. In fact, it seems like they don't want to offer the same titles in the Trial Version than in the licensed version, at least this is what it looks like. It is a mistake, because how do you evaluate a version without the titles? They have to offer the same exact titles for both operating systems.
The question is, how do we transfer our Title Presets from our MAC Licensed version to the Windoes Trial version?

Please don't double-post.  I deleted your duplicate post.

  • Ugly Fonts Help

    Hi
I'm having a rough time with getting the font I want using
DW8. I've built a little website www.carltongreen.com and the text
is just plain ugly in my estimation. I'm not understanding the
'css' panel whatsoever. No matter what I try ,I can't get a good
clean font. I'm looking for a font which is NOT bold--as a matter
of fact , I'm looking to to have a font very similar to the font in
this message, but everytime I try to decrease the font weight/size,
it always ends up looking BOLD and horrible. I'm frustrated beyond
belief. Can someone please help me get this problem sorted out?
    Thanks

  • How to populate column titles for y values when using Write to Measurement File Express VI with a tab delimited text-based .lvm file?

The .lvm file generated by the Write to Measurement File Express VI includes column heading titles for the y values, but they are a default value of "untitled".  See attached example of a sample file when opened in Excel, the values in question are highlighted.  Is there a way to specify the column titles when the file is written?
This is a similar question to this posting, which received a work around response to use the Write to Spreadsheet File.vi, rather than a solution when using this VI.

Sorry for the late reply.  I was out of the office Friday.
You can do it, but the code can get rather ugly.  Under the hood, the dynamic data type (the dark blue wire) is an array of waveforms.  In your case, the scalar values you convert to a dynamic data type are being converted to an array of waveforms, each waveform having one element.  You have two options.
Explicitly convert your scalars to one-element waveforms (t0=0, dt=1) and add the title before conversion to a dynamic data type.
Convert your dynamic data type to an array of waveforms and loop through them to add the column labels.  The conversion blocks are in the Signal Manipulation Express palette.
I would recommend 2, since it is the easiest to add.  It is also the easiest to run only on the first iteration.  Just put a case selector around the loop, wire the selection to the While loop iterator, and set the case containing the label code to 0.  The default case simply passes through the dynamic data.
My apologies for not including a screen shot.  I am in the process of upgrading my machine and can't run LabVIEW.  If you need one, let me know and I can post one tomorrow.

send portfolio- how to customize adobe welcome screen for shared porfolio ?(Opening the link forces the recipient to a downright ugly irrelevant and dead advertisement (appropriately titled "branding logo.png) rather a related cover page)

    Hi nedler1,
Please try the following steps to display the cover sheet and replace it with custom one:
How to change a portfolio’s initial view setting to show the cover sheet (and hide the contents):
Open a PDF portfolio and run the following JS in the console:
    this.collection.initialView = 'Hidden';
Save the portfolio, close and re-open.
The cover sheet will now be displayed when opening the portfolio.
    Updating the cover sheet
Also, most likely if you want the coversheet displayed when opening the portfolio, and do not want the default cover sheet:
Here are the steps to replace the default cover sheet:
    Open the Portfolio.
Perform a View > Portfolio > cover sheet to open the cover sheet.
Open the Pages panel for the cover sheet.
Right click on the cover sheet page in the pages panel, select “Replace Pages”.
Replace the cover sheet page with the desired cover from a page in another pdf.
    Save the portfolio.

  • CFLAYOUT Tab Mouseover title problem

I'm using Coldfusion 8 that has a built in tabular layout

My problem is when I make a tab title and include html it renders
properly but when you mouse over for a few sections the "title" tag
has the code in it and therefore disaplysa bunch of ugly code in

pretty hard to follow in the CF version. Please help!

  • Ugly Terminal Font

I have an old application that has a text indicator requiring a non-proportionally spaced font. Years ago, it looked great with 11pt terminal font.
I recently tried to update that application and noticed that the text display has became very ugly, blocky and unreadable. (It seems the some other sizes (9 or 13) look much better, see image. Same in LabVIEW 8.0...8.5)
This is now under Windows XP and curiously enough, the font control panel does not even show a "terminal" font. Where then does LabVIEW get it from?
Anyway, I am trying to figure out if this problem is due to an upgrade of the OS or a change in the newer LabVIEW versions. Could it be that my old computer had a different "terminal" font installed?
Potential workaround: I noticed that "Lucida Console" is an evenly spaced font that look great at all sizes, so maybe I will switch to that one. Is this a stock OS font or did it possibly get installed wth some other program? I want to make sure things work in built applications.
Does anyone have more information on where the terminal font used by LabVIEW is located?

    Hi altenbach,
The "Terminal" font is a Windows font; however, it appears to be hidden by default on XP and does not show up in the Windows\Fonts folder.  It is also not called terminal.fon.  Try searching your computer for 8514oeme.fon or vgaoem.fon and see if you can locate these files.  If you open them with the Windows Font Viewer, you will see that the title of the font is "Terminal".  If you right-click and go to the file's properties, you can uncheck "Hidden" and then it should show up in your Fonts folder.
I don't know if the font has changed from one OS to another, so I can't say why it looks different in the same application on a Windows XP machine.

  • My song titles are continually being deleted against my will

When I add files to my library, if the tracks have a particularly long title, as soon as i click on them half the title dissapears. For example, if I add a track with the title "Explosions in the Sky - An Ugly Fact of Life", once i click on the item to play it, the title goes down to "Explosions in the Sky - An". Why on earth would iTunes do this? It's really inconvenient, I've had this happen many times.
    Please help.
    Thankyou.
PC   Windows XP   Newest Version of iTunes

Thanks for the helpful suggestion. After reading the site you suggested which would have erased everything, I tried to find an interim solution which seemed to work.
Holding down the Sleep/Wake button at the same time pressing the Home button, I was able to RESET the software without erasing anything. Then resyncing the playlists by unchecking/syncing-----rechecking/syncing, this corrected the problem and all of the songs played.
It would have been a big headache for me to restore all of the deleted calendar, contact, etc. entries. If the RESET had not worked, then I would have done the RESTORE.

  • Premiere Elements 4.0 crashes when creating a title

I have a project with about 40 still images (all resized to around 1000 x 750), some music, and some still titles.  i'm now trying to just create a new default still title -- everytime i do it PE crashes.  I've restarted the program and restarted the computer but it keeps doing it -- Any ideas what is going on?

thanks.  i don't know if this is going to help me.   it sounds like a pretty ugly process.  i downloaded Fontdoctor and can't even get it to run.
here's a fun fact:  when PE 4.0 crashes, it puts up a message that says it needs to close. if i click on either 'send error report' or 'ignore' it closes. if i ignore the message, i can apparently keep working.   i worry however that i may utimately being doing more harm than good.
in this mode i was able to add some new titles, but now some of them don't display when the movie plays.  they display in the monitor window, but not during playback.
    this is becoming a nightmare.

  • Title Bar Drop downs

Has anyone noticed that the title bar drop down menus highlight with an Windows XP blue color that is different than all the blue used in the apps drop downs. The graphite is the same but there is a new (ugly) blue on the drop downs. Or is it just me?

It is not just you -- I had the same reaction. Yuck -- looks like something right out of Windows. And there are only two options in the Appearance pane -- Blue (which looks in the pref pane like a nicer aqua blue) and Graphite. Neither is appealing.

  • Missing feature in Finder window's Title Bar-

    Hi there!
I don't know if this has already been posted; I've tried to make a search but it's a real pain.
I have upgraded my Macpro to Snow Leopard since a couple of months now, but I still miss an important feature that I used quiet A LOT in Leopard.
We all know if we have a window opened with Toolbar on in the Finder and ctrl-click (or cmd-click or RMB-click) on its Title Bar it drops down a menu showing all it's parent folders.
If you click on one of those, its content gets displayed in the already opened window.
Ok. Nice (well.. not that much).
In Leopard (not Snow) we had the option to cmd-click on one of the parent folders displayed in that menu and have it opened in a NEW window, with its original dimensions fitting its whole content.
    (THAT was "nice")!
Now, in Snow Leopard, this feature seems to be gone.
Ok... we have a brand new "Path bar" which behaves the same.
But it's ugly, occupies room in the window and... Oh well; I want that Leopard behavior back! :-)p
Does anyone know how can I have it back (aside from downgrading)?
What makes me think it's still possible to have it back, it's the fact that if I double-click a folder in a window, I can get it opened in a new window with that same behavior. And that if I ctrl-click (or cmd-click or RMB-click) on Safari's Window Title and then cmd-click on one of the items showing in the menu (which are parents folders of a site) I get the very same behavior I had in Leopard: it opens the parent folder in a NEW window (or tab, depending on your settings).
So, I'm guessing is something to change in the Finder preferences, but I just can't figure out where.
    TIA!
(What I wrote is always referred to windows with Toolbar visible; I know without Toolbar every folder opens in a new window, even the ones from the popup).

Hi, Don Archibald and thanks for your answer.
In the first part of my post I already said I was aware that "ctrl-click (or cmd-click or RMB-click)" would make the hierarchical dropmenu appear, both in SL and Leopard.
What differs is while in Leopard you could cmd-click on an item of the dropmenu and have it open in a new window, in SL it opens in the same window, no matter if you press cmd or not when clicking.
As for the "Always open folders in a new window", as it clearly states, that would make every folder (even "regular" ones - the ones not listed in the dropmenu) open in a new window, which is absolutely not what I want.
I want to be able to choose on the fly if a parent folder from the dropmenu, or a "regular" folder, should open in its own window or in the window I'm already in.
Just like I did under Leopard.
Thanks again for your interesting, anyways ;-)
    cià
    ale
