Uh oh. Google confirms it's giving HTTPS sites higher search rankings. What do we do?

This recent change in the Google algorithm is bad for our clients because BC's solution for HTTPS requires the use of https://companyname.worldsecuresystems.com – which my clients would NEVER want to make their default URL.
So BC, what's your next move? If we can't install our own SSL certs, our clients will be penalised by Google.
That will make start to make BC harder to sell, especially to those who value their Google rankings.

There are several threads here and on Linked in about this already.
I will quote one of the key things Google said that people have glossed over or omitted:
"For now it's only a very lightweight signal - affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content - while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS," Google's Zineb Ait Bahajji and Gary Illyes said in the blog post.
"But over time, we may decide to strengthen it, because we'd like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web."
So right now - Its not a factor that will ruin your ranking.
Note how the quote has words like "MAY" decide etc.

If you click the Store > Check For Available Downloads menu option on your computer's iTunes does that download them and/or do they show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes (TV programmes won't show in all countries) ? If other TV programmes show there but not those then check to see if they are hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919

Wow, looks like other carriers don't take forever to approve updates for the Nexus phones. Once again VZW screws the customer. Can't say that I'm surprised at all by this.

unfortunately the do_not_trust certificates might be a sign of unwanted software present on your pc that is intercepting secure network traffic. please go into the system control panel and uninstall programs like BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard or other software that sounds suspicious and didn't get installed by you intentionally.

When I type in search words in the google box and then drop down to the search that matches what I want, and click on it, it does absolutely nothing. It used to complete the search, how do I get it to complete the search?

Here is an example:
I type Denver Dum in the google box.
It gives me several options, one is Denver Dumb Friends League, which is what I want. I bring the cursor to Denver Dumb Friends League and click. It does nothing. The google box still has Denver dum in it. The only way to get a search to be completed is if I type in the whole phrase and hit enter. How do I get it to search using just part of a phrase? It used to do this before I upgraded to the newer version of firefox. Thanks!

Check the job overviews and spools using T code SM37. Verify that there were no errors when running AJAB and AJRW. Also, check the last fiscal year closed for each Comany Code using T code OAAQ.
Some clients are kept more up-to-date than others. For example, the Development and Quality clients may not be as up-to-date as the Production client. Verify that depreciation ran for all months up to the closed fiscal year (if not ran, will see error in SM37), and verify that all previous years have been closed (last closed fiscal year can be seen in OAAQ).

Haveing problems with Safari. It gives me an error message. Safari can't open the web page, because it can't establish a secure connection to the server. It only seams to have a problem on https sites. Any help would be apreciated.

The "s" in "https" indicates the site is a secure server--usually a site that will require a password. Connections to secure servers can be blocked by parental controls. Are you using any parental controls, either through OSX's settings (in System Preferences) or third party parental control software (such as Netnanny)? If so, check the settings to make sure they will allow the connection.

I get a 500 Internal Server error on EVERY non-https site I visit. Any suggestions?

I suddenly get this error using both Safari and Google Chrome, doesn't happen on Firefox, but I have other issues there. My new ISP, BT, say that it is a browser issue - so is anyone else getting this?

Yes i had this from day 1 with BT. The fools on their helpdesk said it was a browser issue. SO WRONG!!!
Can be fixed by turning off smart setup within the homehub itself.
1. Enter 192.168.1.254 into browser.
2. Goto advanced settings and enter admin password from your card.
3. Continue to advanced settings.
4. Goto Home Network.
5. Goto SmartSetup and turn off!!.
6. Click Apply
Job done. All devices should now work. Just wish the idiots on their helpdesk understood this and didnt waste 2 hours and 2 phonecalls. (maybe something stored on your devices if you had an older homehub....)

To make our client site search and display results by google / yahoo or any other search engine what needs to be done?
we kept "meta" tag keywords and description in all our html file and mastheaders.
What we need to do for making our site searchable by search engines ( like yahoo search and google search etc)?
Do we need to register with the search engine sites or search engine will search our site automatically by checking "meta" tags in our web pages.?
All our webpages are in KM.

I havent tried this before, but would like to add my 2 cents to this topic.
I guess you could start by submitting your site to google - http://www.google.com/addurl/
Search engines rely on a lot more than just the meta tags and other header information. I guess Google relies on something called PageRank and also track backs in order to determine the relavance of your site to the search criteria.
You may also search for document related to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) but not sure if that would work.

Connecting to HTTPS site

I have a problem with connecting to a HTTPS site from a JSP page.
I used the samplecode given in the Tomcat SSL guide in HttpClient for this purpose. But its giving error.
First I didnt used the Protocol class to register the https protocol. Then I got an error
"SSL handshaking error, No trusted certificate found"
later when I used the Protocol class to resgister https, I got NullPointerException.
My machine is behind proxy.
Do I need any third party certificate to connect with https?
Pls help me with details...

Since installation of last 4.0b12 version, I'm unable to connect to any https site through a proxy. Connection works if no proxy is involved, with proxy I receive a message like "proxy refuses the connection". Thank you for your answer

I'm connected to a customer's network and I have to use a proxy.
I correctly authenticate myself to the proxy and I try to access https://mail.google.com.
I receive a message that the proxy refuses the connection.
I noticed that this happens with all the https sites.
If I connect with my mobile internet key without proxy, I'm able to connect: the combination of proxy and https is failing.
Other computers on the same network with different browsers can connect to https through the proxy.

I'm working with the Firefox development team on this one. As far as I can tell, they seem to think that there are 2-3 different problems with the same/very similar symptoms, all involving proxies. They think they've fixed them all for RC1.
Right now, it looks like we just want people to test an early build.

I upgraded to Mavericks. Everything went smoothly. But now Excel is giving all of its warnings in what I believe is Chinese. As an example I update a file, close it, and the warning message about saving is in Chinese. Anybody else encounter this?

No confirmation for shift-deleting messages in saved searches

I have noticed that there is no confirmation for Shift-deleting messages in saved searches, only in regular mail folders. This is rather dangerous.
I have checked my config editor, and I have have "mail.warn_on_shift_delete" = true, but this seems to apply only to regular mail folders (where I do get the confirmation diaog), not "virtual" ones like saved searches.
This seems like a bug - at least in my usage of virtual folders they are as real as regular folders, and I would like to have the same level of protection against mistakes there.

I figured it out. I had to go to m.google.com/sync in the browser and change a delete setting there. Don't know how it got switched though.

This type of behaviour can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
