Uh oh, wild fans, no screen, no response G5

ugh oh, I found my machine waking up from sleep with the fans running wild, no screen.
Nothing was available. Only power off to try a new start. No screen, wild fans, no power button action. Started over with option key to my drive and after a long long apple grey screen, got on.
What am I facing here, does any one know?
Start ups have been pretty long lately, tho I usually log out sleep.
Run onyx permissions and scripts frequently. First ever scary behavior.
Advice greatly appreciated.

Here's an Apple doc.
Have you ever changed your PRAM battery?
I would check it first. When mine went, I had no response from my Mac at all; just a light on my power button; absolutely no boot at all.
Check out things in Texas Mac Man's Battery, PRAM, PMU tutorial on the subject. His tutorial is a little dated (don't believe it even mentions G5's) but the info in it, except SMU not being included, still applies. The SMU link is for a late G5 Tower. Early G5's use PMU reset, as shown in the tutorial. The battery for late G5 + G5 iMac's and earlier iMac's, Mac Mini's and Intel Tower Macs is this one.

  • Touch screen doesnt response anymore.

So, my phone did get bricked by some extras-devel software, I had to re-flash it (OS and EMMC). Now after flashing touch screen doesnt response anymore. If tried to flash it again (OS and EMMC) without luck, still it doesnt response to anything. Can't get past the settings menu. Is there a way to fix this or do I need to send it to Nokia Care?

    hmm.  wierd.
so your have a device that is at factory specs now, with absolutely no software on it with exception to the OS, and your touch still does not work?
if it were me, i would crack the phone and make sure that the flex-cable is attached, and if it wasn't, i would connect it and try again. ....
however, if it was connected and didnt work, or you are not comfortable doing that, then i would take it to a nokia service center for repair.   IF you are in the USA, then that would mean going online to this site, http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/repair-and-recycle/repair/repair-locator and then put your imei in and get a print screen of the warranty information and then finish the rest of the questions online until you get the confirmation page that you mail in with your phone.
if the website doesnt work, as it had problems when i was trying to do it, then call in to their customer service number @ 1-888-665-4228 and they will help you over the phone with the same thing.
if you have to mail it in, be sure you take out your battery, sim card, stylus, battery cover, memory card.  (you will not get them back)

  • HT4061 web site screen no response and grey shade on screen?

How to fix: ipad web screen no response and with a grey shade?

Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Or...
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    Or ....
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad.

  • Disappointment With Fan And Screen _Quality_ On New ThinkPad T430

Happy New Year.  I'm typing this as a means to blow off some steam and to warn anyone considering the purchase of a Lenovo product.  Yesterday I unboxed a new ThinkPad T430 (2344BMU), my second.  A year ago I purchased my first T430 (23445GU) and have been nothing but happy with it since, however, given the chance to upgrade the processor I took advantage.  The first thing I noticed when I powered up the new laptop was that the fan sounds like a small turbine when it kicks in, with a distinct whirring sound as it winds up.  This was a major surprise as the fan on my first T430 rarely ever caught my attention, and then only when really pushing the CPU.  The second thing I noticed, as the two laptops sat side-by-side, was that the screen on the new T430, despite having the same 1600x900 resolution, was noticably less vibrant than the old laptop's screen, as if there's a fine coating of dust on it.  Barely a half hour of research later I learned that Lenovo has multiple contracts for fan and screen production, with a distinct difference in quality among the manufacturers, and that it basically comes down to luck regarding screen and fan quality on any given computer sold by Lenovo.  Call me picky, but when I spend $1500 on something I expect a certain level of quality.  Here Lenovo has failed miserably.  Given that my purchase wasn't directly with Lenovo but through a third party, it seems that I've no recourse other than to grind my teeth while using my "awesome" new T430.  I'm actually typing this on the old laptop while updating the drivers and software on the new one, and it's taking a real effort to not smash the new laptop against the wall.  The fan is that intrusive.  Anyway, if even one person reads this and is saved the annoyance of my situation, then I can live with it.  My suggestion would be to never order a Lenovo product online, but to instead find a means to purchase a computer that you've already taken for a test drive so that you know you'll be happy with it.  Good luck.

Here is the fail:  "...my purchase wasn't directly with Lenovo but through a third party"
Perhaps you should just bitch and moan over on their Forum.

  • Black Screen on start up, no chime, fan immediately overdrives, no response

I've got my friend's Powerbook G4 12" 1.5GHz. She said that she left it running the other night, went to bed, then in the morning the screen was blank/black, and the fan was in overdrive. I searched Apple discussions for days trying to find similar issues and/or cure. I found some similar problems, and tried a few things... I tried to reset the PMU, to no avail. I tried booting from the install disc, but it just does the same thing every time: Black screen, fast/loud fan.
I've seen some responses in similar threads say that it could be a logic board issue, perhaps it's completely shot for some reason.
I even (out of pure curiosity and a strange fascination for taking things apart) partially disassembled the PowerBook (using a guide from PowerbookMedic.com) to see if there was anything loose, or any connectors out, or whatever. Reassembled it, and still the same problem.
Any ideas? Or does anyone want to confirm that it IS indeed a bad logic board?

    Hi,
When you tried booting from the install disk, were you holding down the C key???
This might be a bad video card. What concerns me most is the fan. That is usually a sign that there is a process taking a huge amount of the CPU. The only way to see that information is to be able to boot the machine to the Desktop, launch either Activity Monitor or the System Profiler/Startup Items and also, if you can get it booted, the system logs are there also. They can shed light on the situation.
If you can't boot from a restore disk I think your only hope is an Apple store or Apple reseller. Using another Mac, you might be able to access the hard drive using Target Disk Mode:
Transferring files between two computers using FireWire
You can use FireWire to connect your computer to another Mac and have one of the computers appear as an external hard disk on the other computer. This is sometimes called Target Disk Mode.
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the first computer and leave the second computer on.
Connect the two computers using a 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable. (If both computers have higher-speed FireWire 800 ports in addition to the standard FireWire 400 ports, you can use a 9-pin to 9-pin cable with the FireWire 800 ports to transfer data at higher speeds.)
Open System Preferences, click the Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start up the first computer while holding down the T key.)
A disk icon for the first computer appears on the desktop on the second computer. Drag files to and from the disk to transfer them.
When you finish, eject the first computer's disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
Push the power button on the first computer to shut it down and disconnect the FireWire cable.
If the computer to which you connect your computer is running Mac OS 9, it must have FireWire version 2.3.3 or later installed. Use Apple System Profiler (located in /Applications/Utilities) to check the version of FireWire installed. If it has an older version, get an update at the Apple FireWire website at www.apple.com/firewire.

  • Stuck on grey screen and wild fans

I just restarted my powermac G5 this morning after installing the ilife and keyboard updates and it gets stuck on the grey screen with grey apple and then the fans start winding up and the machine sounds like it's going to take off down the run way.
I have tried to start it a couple of times and the same thing happens, even disconnected the external drives and things with no luck.
can anyone have a solution? what s going on with it?

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
If that doesn't do it, Try things in Apple doc.#106464 for your startup issue. The article says it is for 10.3.9 and down but it still applies to 10.4 systems.
Also, try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
Let us know what errors DU reports and if it was able to repair them.

  • IPhone 6 Touch Screen Not Responsive

    Hi everyone-
Just curious if anyone is having the same problems as me.  There have been several times now where I'm touching my iPhone 6 screen, but there is no response from the phone.  This happens both within apps as well as on the home screen.  The problem is not just with my phone, but with my fiances iPhone 6 as well.
I've tried the power on/off but that's more of a temporary fix.  Is it worth going to apple store and asking to switch for a new device?  I've had every iPhone model since the first, this is the first time I've experienced response issues...
Curious to hear the rest of the communities thoughts.

Have you ever dropped your phone? You know I thought my screen was acting weird because of the ios updates. It first started twitching in certain apps. When I updated to 8.3 the twitching was gone but then all of a sudden my screen started blink white. Touch won't work but when the screen blinks wildly it will start opening apps on its own. Like a possessed phone it would open things, close, start typing...I'd have to either tap it with my hand or twist the frame a bit and it'll start working. I'm thinking it's because of the several times my phone dropped. Elsewhere I read some people having a clean wipe/factory reset solving their issue...

  • HT1414 IPad less than 1 year old was working perfectly & was fully charged. Went back 2 hours later & it was blank screen & will not respond no matter what I do. Have fully charged but still black screen & non-responsive with nothing happening when I try

IPad was working fine & fully charged. Screen is now black & non-responsive. Is there something I can try or should I take to service center?

    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • MBP 17" HD Screen - Low Response time

    Hello,
I found that my mbp with 17" 1920x1200 screen have a very slow response time of its Screen. It is very obviously when viewing photo slide show, from dark color to bright color, even watching any motion video, look like a horizontal line will appear on anywhere of the screen. But it is totally problem when viewing on an external monitor with same resolution. Do any HDmbp owner have such problem ?
    thanks.

Is there anyone has the same problem with me ? I want to figure out is that problem only happen on my mbp or everyone have. I will try to take it to repair if I am not the lucky one. But you know....repairing servies is nightmare in my country. Thanks.

  • Imac will not start up - no fans, no screen display, nothing

My imac G5 is about 10 months old. Today, after trying to wake it up from sleep, it would not wake, and it was as if it was switched off. It would not start up when I pressed the power button.
I disconnected the computer, pressed power button for 5 secs, and plugged back in directly to the wall supply. It did start up, but within 2 mins suddenly switched off, and has remained resolutely unresponsive since then. Pressing the power button does not start up anything - no fans, screen display, bleeps - just nothing.
I would be very grateful for any advice.

    Hey AM,
    This doesn't make sense here:
"My imac G5 is about 10 months old."
You're in the iMac G5 forum but if this is true you have an Intel iMac and if it's truely about 10 months old it's still under warranty so take it in.

  • Mac Pro has died - it powers on but fans roar, screen stays black.

I had just woken my Mac Pro from sleeping overnight. It's running 10.4.8.
I open the boot hard disk in column view. I click the Applications folder to expand it into the next column.
The desktop disappears to be replaced by an all over blue raster. After a minute, that little grey rotating sun "wait" symbol you normally only see during start up, appears in the centre of the screen. I have no menubar or cursor.
I have been staring at this situation for five minutes now. I have never seen a Mac behave like this before.
I suppose the only option is to hold the power button in until the thing shuts down.
I shut it down with the power button. Powering up again, the fans roar, the screen remains dark, and that's the way it stays. No boot.
The only thing changed recently was the installation, yesterday, of the latest EFI Firmware Update v1.1.
I feel that this update has broken the computer. What are my options now?

Here's a copy of the relevent part of the log. I can't deduce what went wrong.

  • Whirring Fan, Blank screen...

Might be a repititive question, but my problem is not quite similar to others.
I took my notebook 2 uni yesterday (it was on sleep mode). It had been working in the morning and no problem ever before.
I got to uni and found that the apple sign was illuminated and the screen was blue. I cold started the computer, but after the "twing" startup noise, i put the lid down, cause i had to answer the phone (outside the library). Came back and my laptop was on the login screen. everythin worked smooth for the while. Put it in sleep mode again and left for home.
at home the apple sign was illuminated again, but the screen was blank. worried. cold started the notebook again. started, went to open Opera, when half the screen blackend for a second and went off.
Did start again....and worked for the entire night.
Today is no more than dead weight. The laptop does not show any activity on the screen, doesnt make the startup sound...is very silent for a while and when i press the on/off button, it makes the fan under the screen makes a whirring sound...and stays that way until i remove the battery.
So am extremely worried what the problem is. I initialy thought it was the screen or the GPU cause the screen had flickerd and blanked out at a point. Now I fear it may be a logic board problem.
    Any guess or help?
    Thx...Vab

Ok it is the U28 problem. Got the notebook started by pressing hard near the trackpad. Backed up my data...phew!
Now for permanent solutions. I don't think I am brave enough to open the notebook myself to do any of the suggestions given on most DIY websites. Does anyone know if apple is soldering the chip, without changing the logic board?
I am based in London UK, if anyone knows an Ibook service provider (apart from Apple) who deals with this, would be grateful to know their contact details.
    thx...

  • IPhone 4s screen not responsive after running

After I go for a run, my iPhone 4s screen's bottom right corner is non-responsive until I restore the phone. I have gotten a replacement phone, but it still happens, so I know it must be software. I tried setting it up as a new phone, and loading minimal apps on it, but still having the same issue.
One thing that is peculiar is that depending on the pocket that I keep the phone in, this issue does or does not occur. If the phone is in the pocket that holds it vertically, with little movement (it just fits inside the pocket), it happens every time. If I put it in a different pocket where it sits more horizontal and moves around more, then I don't have the issue.
In addition to the bottom right corner of the screen being non-responsive, there are sporadic and random taps that take place the I don't do. A little poltergeist-acting. random typing, random touches.
Last bit of info is that this has happened with my iPhone 4, as well as now 2 different iPhone 4s's... Wondering if anyone has had this issue, and if there is any
way to find out what is doing it besides adding on apps one by one. That would be a lot of running/testing.
One more thing... Even if I restart it, it still does not work. The ONLY way to get it to work again is to restore it.
    Any help GREATLY appreciated.

If restoring as new (no backup retored) didn't help, there certainly is a hardware problem that requires replacement or repair of the phone.
Apple doesn't repair iPhones - you may be entitled to an out of warranty replacement with a refurb for $269 (USA). If the phone has  been hacked or abused, you'll have to buy a new phone at full price.
