UK bank - First Direct - prevents Safari accessing internet banking

First Direct has just withdrawn access to its Internet Banking service for anyone using the Safari browser. No notice, no consultation, no explanation - just a screen saying (paraphrased) 'Safari not supported, go and get Firefox'. On calling the bank they are obviously very busy with complaints and the technical support people said Safari doesn't work with the new security procedures - well it did two days ago!
I wonder whether Apple might like to contact the bank about its policy before I have to go to all the trouble of moving my mortgage, etc.

Sarah,
Received no other complaints? You can tell how many complaints they've had by how long it took to answer, and when I started the conversation with "I've just tried to use Internet Banking", the operator said "Do you use an Apple Mac?". She confirmed that they'd had lots of complaints - this was at 0700 13 March.

  • SSl error accessing internet banking

I can no longer access internet banking! Get SSl error

If you don't have any luck resetting the router and modem (do both!) then also do SMC and PRAM resets. These can take 2-3 attempts to work. For instructions click https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3603

  • My bank, First Direct, informs me that I am unable to print off my bank statements if I am using Firefox as my browser due to a change in Firefox software.

I have recently changed my browser to Firefox and can no longer print my on-line bank statements. I have queried this with my bank, First Direct, and I am informed that this is due my using Firefox and a recent change to Firefox software. I am using XP and have the latest Adobe software. Your help, please. I notice that other users have registered similar problems.

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

  • Safari and Internet Banking

    Hi there,
Ever since 10.3.9 update, i realized that my safari has been having troubling with my internet banking. Logging in is just fine, everything pops up fine. But once i click on the navigation bar on the left, the screen jumps to the e.g bill payments WITHOUT the navigation bars. So I cant navigate anymore from this point onwards. Just the website security times-out. I never had this problem before 10.3.9
Is it something to do with Java 1.4.2 ?
I have delete the whole safari and also tried out the solution from Apple Knowledge Based, and then download the safari and then update the 10.3.9 again. Didnt work.
I can't afford to upgrade to Tiger at the moment, if that solves the problem.
Does Safari has problem wit Microsoft Exchange Servers ?
Because i noticed recently, i have the similiar navigation problem when i log on to my university website , where the navigation bar dissapears when i move on to the next screen.
Hope some one can help. Last few months being away from home, I had to resort to find a windows computer to do my banking and check on my lecturers via the web.
    Thanks.
    regards,
    Siva

    Hello Freelancer:
Unfortunately some web developers do not write code to standards - worse yet, they occasionally use Microsoft (IE) specific extensions. I always inform the web sites in question that there are problems - some fix them, some do not.
What bank do you use? There are many banks that have excellent web sites that work well with Safari. I personally use Bank of America, but I do not know where you are located so I cannot advise further.

  • Prevent Safari access through iCal?

I have a 5 station peer network of Mac mini's for the staff of an apartment building. Primarily used for Filemaker, I also started using iCal to share my calendars for resident issues, staff schedules, etc.
With parental controls only allowing Filemaker and iCal with the limited Finder activated, the staff is getting full access to the internet through iCal (via Find Shared Calendars), which I want to prevent.
    Possible?
    Thanks,
    ...Bob
    iMac 24", mini's   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

With some help here (and 'there') to get the mental juices flowing, here's what seems to work:
Use the admin account (my own - btullis) on each machine to set Safari.app's owner to "btullis", and set Others to No Access.
This allows me to still have full access via admin account as the need arises, yet it renders the iCal Find Shared Calendars menu option to be mmute, so to speak (simply, nothing happens when invoked). iCal can still obtain updates to the subscribed calendars I've published from my own desk.
I'll find out how well this works, or other undesireable holes, when the inquisitive tweaker on my staff returns from vacation.
Your input was very useful (though indirectly) in finding my way to that end. Thanks again.

  • Internet Banking

    Hi,
I can be connected to internet using iphone. However, when I try accessing Internet banking, I can be able to log in. I undertstand there must be some script or stuff to do.. PLease help me to solve the problem.

I'm not aware of any required script.
I access my bank account information with the Safari browser on my iPhone, and the only thing required is the login - the same as when accessing my bank account information with Safari on my Mac, or with a browser on a Windows PC.
There should be nothing special required, unless your bank requires something special that is out of the ordinary.
What sort of login is required when accessing your bank with a browser on your computer? A user name, or account number and password?
If so, the same should apply with the Safari browser on your iPhone.

If you have problems with only one site and only in Firefox, the problem is often outdated or corrupt files relating to that web page. I suggest you try the following.

    # Try using the sites home page or a direct link and not a bookmark.<br /> Try link http://www.santander.co.uk

    #* Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button <br />OR Press '"Ctrl + F5"' |(Mac ) "Cmd + Shift + R"
#Clear the cache, and cookies only from problem websites.

  • Safari 5: Can't connect to Smile internet banking

    Hi All,
Anyone else having problems connecting to Smile's internet banking? It works in Safari 4 and every other browser I throw at it.
    https://welcome23.smile.co.uk/SmileWeb/start.do
    I get the following error:
Safari can’t open the page “https://welcome23.smile.co.uk/SmileWeb/start.do” because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server “welcome23.smile.co.uk”.
    Thanks,
    Treadmill

Odd. I can connect to that page without errors with Safari 5 (on an XP SP3 box).
If you're game for some basic principles troubleshooting, we can try to work out what is going wrong, Tread.
The first thing I'd check on is whether this is a systemwide problem or a user-account specific problem. (This isn't going to be a cure in itself, but it should give us a heads-up on the most profitable lines of troubleshooting we should try next.)
From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
Open Add or remove user accounts (If using the Classic View in Windows Vista, open User Accounts. Then open Manage another account).
Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process. (Give the new account full administrative rights.)
Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu. Log into the newly created user account. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Launch Safari in the new account, and try opening the web page again. Do you get the same error or does it open properly this time?

  • Lloydstsb Internet banking doesn't work on iPod touch safari

have just set up and tested my iPod touch with my favourite sites, and all was well until I tried my Internet banking. If you try and log into www.lloydstsb.com Internet banking, you are just constantly redirected to the original signin page with no errors. I have turned on the debug option in safari, and do see 2 HTML missing tag errors when I try to log in, but this site works perfectly on safari for Mac and pc. There doesn't appear to be a "report bugs to apple" link in safari either, even with the debug output turned on. Has anyone else had this issue? I presume this issue will be present on the iPhone too.

    Thanks guys
I am pretty sure the issue isn't with my bank. If you just go to www.lloydstsb.com and choose to log into personal banking, then hit the continue button under the login box (without entering any username or password) it will just reload the same login page. In any other. On a mac or a pc it will give you an error that you entered invalid details. I think it's an issue with safari on the touch.
Is the product feedback page really the only way to raise this specific bug with them? I upgraded my tomtom firmware the other day, and it had a bug on my particular hardware. I hit the tomtom site, support area, phone number, then called them in the I'm and they were able to advise me that this was a known issue and could talk me through fixing it. That's what I call customer service, and this was on a 3 year old £70 piece of hardware. I aparently am allowed to raise only 1 support call within 90 days of my purchase, and that's it. I don't want to waste it on this one bug.

Some banks are notoriously uncaring and lazy about what systems and browsers they support.

As it says in this document:
    http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/
"Safari complies with standards, but not all browsers do. This article explains how to design, modify and validate your website so that it can be rendered and read properly by all major browsers."
The bank/s need to read this:
"Safari is one of the most standards-compliant browsers ever built. Thus, your best bet for ensuring your pages render properly in Safari — today’s version and beyond — is to follow web standards. For a great overview of web standards, check out Mozilla.org’s article Using Web Standards in Your Web Pages."

  • I am unable to access my Bank website since upgrading to Mavericks (Safari 7)

I am unable to access my Bank website since upgrading to Mavericks (Safari 7)
I get the following error message in Safari before I even have the opportunity to
    connect to my bank's website.
It works fine in Firefox and Chrome.
    Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.tdbank.com/" on this server.

I experienced the same problem where by I could not log into my Nationwide Bank account when I had upgraded Safari to the latest Version before Mavericks 6.1.0 on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I believe.
I already had Trusteer Rapport installed as recommended by banks.
Some Banks worked but Nationwide skipped the log in page and kept taking me to a page about Cookies telling me I needed to enable them but they were enabled. I just could not get into the Log In Page. Incidentally the Nationwides Cookies screen shot is of an out of date Cookies setting page - it is now under privacy in Safari preferences.
I then installed Rapport again when it popped up as an option and bingo I could get to the Log In page.
Took the plunge and upgraded last evening to Mavericks
Same probelm occured cannot Log In to Nationwide.
I have just stopped Trusteer Rapport and thank goodness I can get into Log On again.
However when I logged out and tried to open another site Safari crashed with the following error message
"safari quite unexpectedly while using trf.dylib plug-in"
Chose Reopen and safari opened Ok
I googled the message and that got me here - seems it is Trusteer Rapport
So someone needs to sort this out I guess Trusteer I guess?
    Hope this is helpful
    Cheers
