  • LabVIEW consultant required in Ballarat, Australia

I have an automotive test machine running a LabVIEW interface, controlled by a NI acquisition card.
It would be polite to describe the machine as "legacy". The entire machine is dinosaur era. The NI / LabVIEW upgrade was done in-house by somebody long since departed. The hardware belongs in a museum and the control PC has been running on borrowed time for at least a decade.
I need an experienced LabVIEW consultant to bring the machine back up to date; replace hardware with current supported models, and update software to suit.
Any local (ie Melbourne) LabVIEW contractors should drop me a line at [email protected], or call me on 03 5327 0318 to discuss.

  • Using Fieldpoint from Labview RT on a PXI System

I have a PXI system with Labview RT (PXI 8186 controller with LVRT ver 7.1).
I wanted to connect a FP remote I/O system to this controller. The Fieldpoint system I have has a FP-1000 RS-232 Network module.
I was hoping to be able to connect the FP-1000 to the serial port of the PXI-8186, and use the standard Fieldpoint VIs to write/read data (as you would from a Windows-based Labview app).
It doesn't seem to be that easy, trying to download any code with a Fieldpoint VI down to my RT target gives an error ("failed to load shared library FPLVMgr.dll on RT target device"). Looking through MAX I see that Fieldpoint drivers are not loaded on the RT target, and there is no option to load them there either.
    So: Ho
w do I control my Fieldpoint units from my PXI System using Labview RT?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ravid

    Hi, Ravid.
Effectively, under LabVIEW RT, you cannot use the standard FieldPoint VIs to communicate to a FieldPoint module, since they are not supported. If you have a serial module, like the FP-1000 or FP-1001, you need to use Optomux commands to interface and communicate to it. You can find great examples on how to do the communication in the Example Finder of LabVIEW >> Hardware Input and Output >> FieldPoint >> Optomux >> and use any of the examples that use VISA to communicate to the modules. To run the examples, first target LabVIEW to your 8186 and open the example. Before running it, match the baud rate and address specified in your FP-1000 with the controls in the Front Panel. Also, verify that you have either an alias defined for COM1, or use AS
RL::INSTR1 for the VISA resource name. You will need to have VISA RT installed on your RT Target to be able to run this examples.
You can find the Optomux commands in LabVIEW under the Advanced FieldPoint palette. For more information on Optomux commands, you can take a look at the FP-1000/1001 Programmer Reference Manual
Let me know if you have further questions. I hope this helps!

  • What are resources that one has to use motion control in LabView?

I am a newbie at Labview and I am trying to get a stepper motor to drive a shaft for one rotation (the shaft is attached to a bearing which will rotate a laser around a fixed object in the center). I am very limited in experience and I am wondering if ValueMotion is the way to go. Do you have to purchase the PC controller from NI to use value or flex motion? It would appear that using the intialization and setup VI's that ship with LV 6i would be the easiest and quickest route.
What demos/programs for labview will be best in helping me in my efforts? I have yet to even select the controller or stepper motor for this application.

    Hello Graymalkin79...
LabVIEW and an NI motion controller for your PC are an excellent combination for the application that you describe. To answer your specific questions...Yes the ValueMotion and FlexMotion VI's require a PC based controller from NI. For your application, either the 7334 stepper controller (ValueMotion) or the 7344 step/servo controller (FlexMotion) will do the trick. For straighforward stepper control as you describe in your application, ValueMotion is fine and the VI's for init, setup and operation should have you up and running quickly. FlexMotion provides a significant level of motion capability and overall system integration that may enhance your total application, but that's difficult to determine from your brief description.
    Most
any Stepper Motor requires a power driver unit like the MID7602, and the selection of this component really depends on the motor that you choose and its associated torque and speed requirements in your system.
Both ValueMotion and FlexMotion VI libraries provide motion demos that you can use interactively as well as VI's that you can integrate into your overall laser based LabVIEW application.

  • LabVIEW on the Mac at Macworld Expo 2008

National Instruments had a very small booth at Macworld Expo this year. They were there nonetheless and I asked them a few questions about the current state of LabVIEW on the Mac.
I also wanted to find out how, and if, a current Windows user like
myself could use a Mac exclusively and still manage to satisfy Windows
based LabVIEW project clients. According to Mike Neil, LabVIEW product
manager, you can have your cake, er… Mac and eat it too. With the use
of virtual machines (vmware fusion, parallels) or bootcamp
(which boots the whole machine into Windows), you can now run your
windows development environment on a Mac and satisfy any Windows
project requirements. Which leaves me asking myself, why am I still on
    a PC?

    Hey Michael,
With Parallels, VMWare, and Boot Camp, there are certainly fewer excuses to not own a Mac!
Take a look at this article as well:

It dicusses some of the testing done here with Parallels and VMWare.

  • Labview 3.1 from Mac to PC

    Hi,
who is experienced in switching Labview 3.1 applications from MacIntosh to PC
    WIN 9.x/NT based LabView 5.0?
Who knows all about the different filetypes (type & creator used by Mac) and
the right translation for PC fileformat (filename in 8.3 convention, means
    "filename.ext")
    Thanks for any help, Rolf

    Hey Ron,
LabVIEW is a platform independent environment, so you should have no problems
porting your MAC VI's to Windows. However, I found a Knowledge Base article that
may help you. I went to NI's homepage (www.ni.com) and typed "transfer between
platforms" and only searched the support pages. The first hit should
    help you.
    I hope this helps,
    Kevin
