UK DVD for use in USA

I've got a UK PAL system. I've produced a PAL video in PPro, output to Encore and made a All regions PAL DVD.
Now the client wants a version for the USA.
So: I can start a new Encore project in NTSC and import the Ppro PAL video.
It "appears" to work.
But somewhere along the line it must be converting it to 29.7fps.
So will the programme end up jumpy when played on an NTSC dvd player?
If so, is there any other way round this?
Many thanks, Linda

Linda.
It's quite possible the playback will be jumpy or lumpy.
You are basically adding frames, and this may cause motion judder.
The best solution I have found is to do the conversion from the original PAL AVI file before importing it into Encore.
I always use DV Film Atlantis for this, as it consistently produces by far & away the finest quality I have ever seen. It's cheap too - $200 - and will work from all source files, Quicktimes or AVI.
The problem with most of the "conversion" methods is that they use either frame blending or frame skipping, or combinations of the above.
See http://dvfilm.com/atlantis/compare.htm for full details.
NB - this requires Quicktime 7.1.6 - no later.

  • Putting slideshow on DVD for use in DVD player

I have a slideshow that I need to burn onto a DVD for use in a regular DVD home player, not in a computer. Can I do this with iPhoto? If yes, how, and if no, then can I use iMovie instead?
    This is urgent!

Urgent? Then in iPhoto Share -> Send to iDVD. You need to create the actual DVD in that app not iPhoto or iMovie.

  • Best LCD Monitor/TV tuner/DVD for use with MacBook

I am looking to expand my desktop with a 2nd monitor. As a bonus I would like the monitor to have a built in TV tuner NTSC and DVD player if possible.
Specifically what do I need to worry about for the computer desktop resolution/pixel count etc so the computer screens look good not just the HDTV content.

hey there Ryan, welcome to discussions!
it can depend on what you're doing... i've discovered i can't edit in Final Cut Pro 6 using my 42" Sony LCD proj. HDTV, but i can use my 42" Sony to watch DVDs & HD QT content from Apple's site. i can display my e-mail but i can't read it @ 1920x1080i from 10 feet away, i need to use a lower rez. in this instance when Apple says it does/doesn't support something it means their tests have shown best results(does support-23" monitor for any/everything) or you can try but if it doesn't work it's a limitation we can't do anything about(doesn't support-42" does work but not for everything). this is how i've interpreted their specs as i've pushed the envelope for using my MacBook.
Apple's specs don't support using my 42" Sony, but it does work, just not for everything(like Final Cut Pro) as it falls outside of the "safe zone" of their testing where all of the MacBook's capabilities work well. buy/borrow a cable to try the MacBook w/ your TV or take the Macbook to a Store to see what you get.
    good luck.

  • Save Formats for DVDs for use on Computer

I'm using a pre-loaded DVD template to create a DVD with a Title menu, scene menu, etc.  Is there any option for me to save this format for use on my computer only?
Instead of burning this to a DVD, I'd like to save the final product as a file with the same function as the DVD (usable menu, skip to set scene markers, etc).  Does that make sense?
The idea is to not have to burn 10+ DVDs, but save these files to a flash drive and access them through a computer or TV.
    I'm using Premiere Elements 12.
    Thank you!

    Salvatij
Premiere Elements 12/12.1 on what computer operating system?
Assuming Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit for the moment and DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc....
    1. You could consider Publish+Share/webDVD which is really a flash file that comes with disc menu of your choice.
The saved folder from the process can be played back on the computer using Foxfire and Internet Explorer. I do not see you playing that back on TV.
    2. In Premiere Elements, if you export Timeline content to file saved to the computer hard drive, menus are not included.
Please review the above. I am think about this some more.
    Thanks.

  • Configuration for Use Tax(USA)

    Hello.
I have one problem during the project. We have to set the configuration as the customer request us.
I know that SAP delivers basic tax code for Use Tax of USA.
Actually, I don't know how to configure in order to post document with journal entry like,
          Debit                    Credit
    Expense  100  /  AP  100
Use Tax      7   / Accrual Tax  7    <<< These two lines must be created automatically.
I tried several options but, I failed.
We set tax procedure 'TAXUSJ' because other subsidiary is already using this.
    Thank you in advance.

First, make sure that the tax relevant fields in these GL accounts Master are complete.
For TAXUSJ u2013 Tax code for a specific COA is U1
I guess (not sure though), you can provide the automatic account determination using the Tcode OB40 to automatically generate the FI posting that you desire.
    Account Transaction Type: USA
    Description: USA-Accrued Use Tax
    Hope this helps,

  • Import from DVD for use on Web

    Hi
aplogoies if this is "an idiot question" but this is my first foray into premiere.
A clinet for whom I'm doing a web site has given me a DVD with demos of his products in the vob format. Ie the dvd has two folders on it one audio one video I think!.
I downloaded avs video convertor and converted the vob files to AVI and mp4
If I import the mp4 into premiere they are imported ok, if I import the avi I get the following error
    unsupported format oor file.
I have trawled the forum and opened the file in Gsot with the following results
I suppose I have two questions, the end video will be going on a youtube channel so am I better to just use the mp4 conversion or should I convert to AVI. If the latter why do I get this error
    thanks
    Ian

    Hi
thanks for the fast and accurate response. Haven't tried exporting yet as I have to add a branding jpeg at the start and end of each of the 24 films.
Horses for courses created the jpeg in illustrator in minutes.
Hey ho back to the learning curve

  • Accessing a slideshow from a DVD for use in my DVD

    Hello all...
I am putting together a wedding video. I have a slideshow that was made by the brides' cousin and shown at the reception on a DVD. I want to use this slideshow in my DVD project.
The disk has Video_TS files. I also created a .dmg file from this disk.
How do I convert this into a format that I can use in my project?
    Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you are talking about a DVD slideshow that is on a DVD-video disc. If that is true then your best bet would be to talk to the person who created the disc and see if you can get the original files from them.
Otherwise you could use MPEG Streamclip to extract the individual images that were used to create the slideshow. But you will loose all the associated programming (timing and order of the slides). Trying to re-create the slideshow will probably take you days of work, so you really should talk to person you created the original disc.

  • DVD for use in class

I own an educational DVD that has a run time much longer than my class session. There are a few places where the disk is repetitive. By getting rid of that and some of the transitions, I can make this fit into a class period. Can someone tell me what I need to do to accomplish this? I have iDVD 7.0.4, iMovie 8.0.6, toast 6, Quicktime 7 Pro and maybe a few few other programs. Please advise. TIA.

Can you suggest a way I could do this that I can understand, or is this beyond my skill set?
Normally I would recommend one-on-one time with someone experienced in these work flows. For instance, have you tried to contact your local user group for assistance? While the process is relatively simple, there are a number of pitfalls to avoid, you may not be familiar with some of the terms used here and/or you may be unsure regarding export requirements for various display options within the classroom.
Assuming your PBS DVD is one of the downloadable classroom resource variety and assuming you have the required MPEG-2 component installed, then you would need to
    1) determine which Title (VOB set) contains your target content
    2) download/copy it to your hard drive
    3) open the downloaded content in the MPEG Streamclip application
    4) set "in" and "out" points by scrubbing the playhead to specific frames and pressing the "I" or "O" key
    5) "Trim" unselected content or "Cut" selected content to remove the unwanted dross
    6) repeat steps 4 and 5 until until all unwanted data has been removed
    7) fix timecode breaks in the retained data.
    8) save, transcode, or ere-author the data for target use

  • Best file format for iMovie when transferring standard 8 to DVD for use under iMovie.

I have some old Standard 8 cine film which I want transfered to DVD or CD so I can edit under iMovie.
What file format should I ask for i.e. .avi etc,
Should I get them onto DVD or CD.
Does anyone know a reliable transfer companies ?
    I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 and iMovie 09 8.0.6 (821)
    Many thanks for any help.

If you have 8MM film, I have found a company called Mymovietransfer.com or Debenham media that will convert the 8MM to 1080P in the format you specify. I chose Motion JPEG, and it worked great in iMovie. If you have Final Cut Pro, you can choose ProRes or Uncompressed instead.
When you get your film converted to DVD, it will be standard definition and lose some quality. If you prefer to go standard definition you are better off finding someone who will convert it to DV codec rather than a DVD, which is highly compressed MPEG2.
So my suggestion would ne to find a company that can convert it in the highest quality possible. You can then edit it in iMovie and share to YouTube, DVD, etc.
Here is a sample video of mine in 1080P from 8MM converted by Mymovietransfer.

I have no affiliation with this company except as a satisfied customer.

  • Create a CD/DVD for use without internet access

I am very satisfied with the website I created using iWeb on Mobile Me. I would like to create a CD or DVD where I can add an autorun function to enable those without convenient internet access to see the information. Can anyone point me to a source where I can learn how to do this and what additional software I would need?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do the following;
1 - publish your site to a folder on your hard drive. You change the destination by clicking on the site folder and selecting the folder you want to publish to (lower left hand image):
2 - put a CD into your optical drive.
3 - drag the contents of that folder, an index.html file and a folder with your site's name, onto the empty disk icon on the desktop.
4 - drag the disk icon to the Trash icon in the Dock which turns into a Burn icon and burns the disk.
The disk will let other Macs double click on the index.html file to open your site in the web browser of choice.
However, PCs may not be able to do the same. Mac's OS X system has the necessary features built in but I'm not sure about Windows. You'll have to inquire about PCs.

  • Blank DVDs for Apple Superdrive DVR-106D?

I'm soon going to need some more blank DVD disks for my 17" iMac but there's a problem. As I understand it I can only use 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW discs.
    Is this right?
The problem is not many places do these now (I've found some 4x DVD-Rs but 2x DVD-RWs are rarer than rocking horse poop).
However reading through this forum I found the bit about the Superdrive software upgrade. It suggests that I can use faster discs without breaking the drive but that they'll only burn at 1x speed. Is that correct? Can I use, say, 16x DVD media in my drive without destroying it?
Is there anything else I should know? The reason I ask is that in the past I've tried to burn DVDs for use in a domestic DVD player and I've only found one type of disc that does it reliably (RiDisc 4x DVD-Rs which now, of course, are no longer available).
As ever any thoughts or advice gratefully received.

Many of the older drives required you use the same speed media for the drives in your machine or they would show a error message.
As time has gone by, the Drive manufactures and the Media manufactures were made aware of this problem. In many cases they released Firmware Updates for many of the drives used in the computers to enhance there performance.
Here is a Media guide to use when purchasing DVD Media.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Read it carefully there is a wealth of information in reguard to Media in general.
Now let's talk about high speed media.
Now since the advent of 16X high speed media, many users have older machines that are only capable of burning at 1x, or 2x. Some of the media that is 16X will not work whereas others will. The key here is to read the packaging on the Media. It will clearly tell you that the media will burn at 1X,2X,4X,8X, and 16X. The key here is using high quality media your burner will burn at the highest rate it is capable of, using the higher quality media where it will not with cheap media.
I also recommend that you use DVD-R Media it is the most widely recognized and used across the board.
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
As time goes buy and you become more familiar with your Optical drive and it's capabilities then you can branch out and expieriment with different Media Format's.
Remember that not all players and computers will recognize and play Some media's.
I personally use Maxell 16X DVD-R media. This is one of the highest in quality and is not farmed out by them to another maker as some are and burns fine at all speeds, This will be determined by your Optical Drive in your machine.(Read the Packaging on the Media)
Good Luck, Oh by the way I have never had a bad burn with this media.

  • How to make a NTSC DVD for the USA

I want to put some movies on a DVD for some relatives to play on their DVD player in USA which uses NTSC I believe.
How do I convert my PAL footage to play on their machine in iDVD6?

    Hi Alexander
Two ways. One bad and one very good.
    • Burn a NTSC-project in iDVD - BAD AND LOSY QUALITY
    • Open Your movie in JES_Deinterlacer - Google it - it's free and let it convert Your PAL (25fps) project
to NTSC (29.97fps) then start a new iDVD NTSC-project and drop this new converted movie into
    this.
This should be enough - BUT You can do more.
    • Now Save as a DiskImage to eg Desktop
    • Burn this by Apple Disk Util tool or Toast™ - AT AN AS SLOW speed as possible eg x1, x2 or x4
    • Burn it on high quality media: I use Verbatim DVDs
    • Use DVD-R (not +R or +/-RW)
Doing the last steps gives a DVD that has less writing errors = Can be played on more types of player
eg. stand alone DVD-player or PCs
Yours - HAVE TESTED THIS and got a very good result - confirmed from US: Bengt W

  • DVD Burn problem. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use"

    Hello everyone,
I initially had a lot of problems with PE8. However the nVidia driver update solved most of them.
Just thought it was important to report success as well as failure!
However one problem remains. I get the following error at the 96% mark while burning. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use". It is always at the 96% mark and the program is "compiling [something]" when this happens.
Having searched this site I notice that user rgferg posted a similar problem 13 days ago but was redirected to repost in a different place, but never did.
I have tried to burn a 1hr clip 4 times and every time I have selected the slower burn speed (8MB/s) as has been suggested. It seems that inferior media is a culprit, so I have bought some [quality] Verbatim DVD-R media to try in my Phillips SATA optical drive. I am sceptical this will work, but open minded nonetheless. I will give it a whirl when my computer has stopped capturing the VHS I am working on.
Each time the burn failed the disk was automatically ejected and the burn process had actually started and progressed perhaps ~40% or so.
This indicates to me that it is a drive sharing issue, rather than a media issue. Somewhere on this forum it suggests that I go through a 20+ step process and delete/disable every piece of software that can compete with Premiere among other things. IF I do this what do I burn with outside of Adobe? Do I have to get imgburn or whatever it was called? What if I like Nero? Nero 6 has worked great for me for 3 years.
So given I am willing to uninstall my old optical drive burning software, who out there can recommened commercial software that for them creates a painless Adobe burning experience with no errors or conflicts? Perhaps there is another solution that I did not see on this forum?
I am running Windows XP SP3. I have the latest nVidia drivers for my SLI GeForce 7600 GS cards. I have 3 monitors. RAID 0 SATA, 2GB RAM, Athlon X2 5400.
    Justin.

OK been working through the list of 20 things Adobe recommends to fix DVD burn error. No luck yet:
    system meets minimum requirements
Project size does not exceed disk capacity
successfully burned project to DVD folder -thus skip to step 8.
      8.   Using new blank media for burning
      9.   Try different media and DVD burners. Bought Verbatim DVD-R. Don't have another DVD burner. Adobe's supported burner list is VERY short, so of course mine is not on it.
      10.  Uninstalled Nero 6. Did NOT uninstall Acronis True Image workstation or Lightscribe. These do not access the drive unless I say so!
      11.  Have not yet disabled startup items and services. This will take a lot of work and will leave to last. Deactivated Spybot thus far.....
      12.  Disabled IMAPI CD burning COM
      13.  DMA if available already set. Haven't set this in BIOS yet. I already think it is, but will check next boot.
      14.  Updated DVD firmware
      15.  Already updated nVidia drivers
      16.  Don't have any other DVD drives to disconnect.
      17.  MPEG workaround. Will resort to if required.
      18.  Disable Autoplay? XP only has "prompt me each time to choose an action". I have set this for ALL file types.
      19.  Have NOT refreshed the DVD drivers in the registry. This step involves uninstalling PE8. Will leave this as last resort.
      20.  Visit forums to see if other have the same problem. Hi guys
So still working through some of the items above.
Can anyone direct me to advice on how to write the encoded files sent to the hard drive, or the VOB files that PE8 failed to burn to a disk? Will the former work with DVD menus?
    What a process.
    Stay tuned.
    Justin.
