UK iphone 3GS in Australia

Hi, I am wondering if I can buy an iPhone 3GS in the UK, using an O2 sim card, and then use it whenever I go back to Australia (with my Australian sim card). Would it work just like an iPhone purchased in Australia? Thanks!

Even if O2 were to unlock it, you wouldn't be able to get any support or warranty service in Australia for a UK-sold iPhone. If something were to go wrong with your iPhone, you'd have to ship it back to the UK for service. So if you really want to purchase an iPhone in the UK now, you'll probably be best off selling your iPhone before you leave the UK and then buying a new one in Australia.
Regards.

Have a iPhone 3GS from australia given to me by my sister. I live in the UK and it won't accept my pay as you go sim card. I don't know which network it is locked into. What can I do to unlock it?

Your Sister will have to arrange for the iPhone to be unlocked in Australia
If it can be accomplished whilst iPhone is in UK
Fortunately all the Aussie carriers do offer unlocking

  • Iphone 3Gs from Australia

Hi all, this maybe a stupid question but my really close mate is heading to America to pursue a phd. We're planning to get him an Iphone 3GS from here, Sydney Australia. We can get them unlocked from the apple store. My concern is can he, when in america use it?
Will an unlocked phone from a country outside the USA work in the USA with a local American carrier, i.e. TMobile, AT&T?
    Please Advice. Thank you.

If the iPhone is purchased as officially unlocked, it should work with any carrier's SIM card, but support and warranty coverage is honored in the country where the iPhone was sold officially by Apple only. If a problem develops with your mate's iPhone that is purchased in Australia while he is in the U.S. that requires an exchange under warranty, he must return to Australia with the iPhone or return the iPhone to Australia for an exchange under warranty.
Since the iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T only, I don't believe visual voicemail access is supported or provided by T-Mobile. Overall, AT&T has better coverage nationwide than T-Mobile especially with 3G network access.

  • IPhone 3GS (au) support for WPA2 Enterprise

Can someone provide me with an official page outlining whether the iPhone 3GS from Australia supports WPA2 Enterprise wifi security?
Also, whether it depends on the version of iOS as well.
    Thanks.

Enterprise networking is now supported I believe.
It's not something I know much about, but the following article(s) may help you.

iPhone 3G is not compatible with iOS5. 3GS is.

  • Multiple issues with my iPhone 3GS since 4.1; can anyone help?

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 3GS 16GB which I love very much. Vital Statistics are:
    Version: 4.1 (8B117)
    Carrier: Voda AU 8.0
    Model: MC132X
    Modem Firmware: 05.14.02
I bought it through Vodafone Australia in January this year. It’s been brilliant, it is this device which convinced me Apple sold brilliant gear, and greatly influenced me to buy my iMac 27", 17" Macbook Pro, Airport Extreme, and Time Capsule.
I am a Senior Test Analyst with telco experience in all of Australia’s mobile phone operators (3, Vodafone, Optus, and Telstra). I now work for a global media company, and depend on my iPhone for phonecalls, emails, internet, getting access to my share trading platform, banking apps, calendar, etc.
I went to Germany for 2 months, and I bought the unlock from my carrier, Vodafone Australia, so I could use a usim from Vodafone DE in Germany. Vodafone’s instructions were that in order to apply the unlock, I had to connect my iPhone to iTunes, where it would download an update from Apple and unlock my phone.
I performed the upgrade to 4.1, which was a completely clean install after backing everything up.
Unfortunately, after upgrading from 3.1.3 to 4.1 I am having no end of issues with my trusty (once) 3GS.
    Issues I am currently encountering:
    1. Dropped calls. Both in Germany, and in Australia, my iPhone is dropping calls at a rate it has never, ever done before. 1 out of ever 2-3 calls is being dropped. The voice quality is also degraded over what I remember it being (both in AU and DE), and I’m getting ‘squawks’ and ‘screeches’ in the middle of my conversations which I never had prior to upgrading.
    2. Signal strength is very poor. Before I upgraded to 4.1, I was able to make and receive phonecalls at my desk at work (right in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, right next to Hyde Park.) without issue. I was able to walk in between my company’s offices in the CBD and talk the whole way without problem. Now, I get 1 bar at my desk, and I’m lucky if I can make a phonecall 50% of the time there. I can no longer receive the volume of calls that I used to at my desk either. Walking between offices sees my phone calls drop EVERY TIME now. At home, with 3.1.3, I had no problem with reception. Now, I drop calls inside my house on a regular basis, and I often don’t have enough signal to make calls at home where prior I had no issues. My younger brother, who bought an iPhone 3GS on the same day I did, from the same Vodafone store, at the same time, is still on 3.1.2. He has no problems with reception in the house at all. He walks around taunting me holding phonecalls without issue.
    3. Internet performance has been devastated. Whereas my google maps, email, and internet access used to be fast and crisp, now it is slow and haphazard. I am also seeing the 3G symbol disappear and be replaced by an E symbol, and my phone seems to have difficulty staying on the 3G network. My brother, standing right next to me, does not have these problems. Once again, my brother’s iPhone 3GS on 3.1.2 does not have any internet problems when he is using his iPhone right beside me. We are on the same carrier (Vodafone AU), on the same plan.
    4. My iPhone battery life has been dramatically reduced. Whereas I used to be able to use it for almost a full day, with minor top ups when it got really busy, now my battery life vanishes before my eyes in half the time. This is with the device simply not being up to the task of performing the workload it used to!
    5. My iphone locks up, and crashes at random times, and I’ve been having to hard-reset it on occasion.
    6. My iPhone is far slower than it used to be. I’ve compared it to my brother’s identical 3GS on 3.1.2, and his phone flies in comparison to mine! Opening my SMS’s, email client, and internet browser is painfully slow.
    7. When calling a number, often my iPhone ‘waits’ for 20-30 seconds at the ‘calling mobile’ screen before I hear any tone from the phone indicating that it’s making the phone call. This never happened when it was running 3.1.3. This never happens on my brother’s identical 3GS.
    8. My wireless performance has decreased. I have run bandwidth tests through my wireless router numerous times from www.speedtest.net, and compared them with my brother’s results performed right before and right after mine. I’ve run this test against my brother’s 3GS more than enough times to form a statistical picture. On the whole, my wireless performance is around 10-15% worse than his 3GS.
I work in the telco industry. I regularly chat with the radio engineers who fix up blackspots in 3G coverage for Telstra and 3 Australia. I know that the excuse offered, that of the iPhone software correctly reporting the signal now and not before is absolute rubbish. My 3GS used to work at my desk, between my offices, and at home flawlessly. It crawls along now, and it does not get the reception signal quality it used to.
I have wiped my iPhone several times now. I have put it into DFU mode and totally, cleanly installed the 4.1 software. I have done this 4 times now.
The clean installs have not fixed the issues above.
I would like to know what my options are for fixing these issues?
The prime questions I have are:
    1. How can I roll back this accursed update?
    2. Why would Apple release a software update(s) that hasn't been tested, and dramatically negatively impacts my beloved 3GS?
    3. How can I get my brilliant 3GS +*back to the way it was*+!?!?
I’m very, very disappointed. And to be honest, the simple fact I’m taking the time out of my busy day to write this post means I’m very angry as well.
I know the problem with my 3GS *is not a hardware issue*. It's a software issue, and I'd like to know how I can get my old, fast, reliable, brilliant 3GS back.
    Regards,
    -J

The picture you show is normal. If you lightly double tap home button it activates reach ability mode for one handed operation. Nothing is wrong there. Another light double tap returns it to full screen. Do not press, just light touch the home button. AAs far as the other issues check the in call volume or ringer volume as it happens, just a possibility. as far as the banner not displayed on lock screen, as far as I know you need to have notifications set to alerts not banners in order for them to show up on the lock screen.

  • Using my Australian iPhone 3GS in Canada

    Hi there,
I recently moved from Australia to Canada.
I took my iPhone 3GS and today called Vodafone to officially cancel my service with them. This has since been done, and I also sought advice from them on how to use my phone with a Canadian provider. They instructed me to unlock my iphone through itunes, which I did. When it appeared all was done, I went and purchased a SIM card with a Canadian provider and installed it in my phone in place of the old one.
Despite re-booting my iphone to factory settings and setting it up under a new profile, I get "No Service" as the only message that appears where there should be reception bars.
Can anyone help me with why I am having trouble switching over to a new provider?
    Thanks.

I haven't yet; I'm in the unenviable position of not having a phone I can use any more now. I wanted to see whether or not there was something I'd done incorrectly, or something I still had to do, in order to fix the problem, before I assumed the SIM was faulty.

  • IPhone 3GS "NO SERVICE" but finds carrier in network selection

I'll try and keep it brief. So my iPhone 3GS constantly says "No Service" and I don't know why. I boot it up, and it says "Searching..." for about 2 minutes, then "No Service"
For almost a month now, it would randomly go out for an hour or so. The morning of October 8th it went out for two days straight. When I woke up in the morning (Oct 10) it was connected to Bell with full bars + 3G. It was only on for about 5 hours or so, then back to no service. It's now the 13th and I'm still left with no service. I've done a full restore, I got a new SIM, I've tried putting it on airplane mode for 2 minutes and going outside, I've shut it off and turned it on somewhere else, I updated to iOS 5. I've done everything I can find online. No luck. It finds Bell, both "Bell 3G" and "Bell" Settings>General>Carrier but when I try to connect to it, it tells me "Network Lost, your selected cellular network is no longer available. You can choose a different network in Settings" for both Bell 3G and just Bell.
Apple wants me to pay 229 to send me a new one, but I can't afford it, and Bell won't give me a loaner, so I'm left without a phone. Help, please!

honestly i don't think its a apple iphone direct issue.  here's what i know...i have had a no service on my 3gs  randomly coming up on my phone for nearly a year now.  i have done everything you've stated and still the same.  i recently just went to australia and used a telstra sim card and it worked flawlessly for 2 months.  i believe that bell and telus have changed their signal or something that is causing this but they will deny it to the bitter end.  so...why not just buy another iphone?  Exactly! thats what they want you to do!  It's just a ploy to get you to buy another phone. if you can get another carrier besides these 2 crooks i think you will find it works.  try buying a cheap prepaid sim card to see which carrier works best in your area before selecting a plan.

  • IPhone 3GS to be avaliable on Orange UK, oh boo =[

Well, as of last month I became the proud owner of an iPhone 3GS on the O2UK network, and I love it.
Now, here's the problem. Before I bought my iPhone on pay as you go, I was using Orange UK as my network carrier, and just now I discovered that the iPhone 3GS would be avaliable on Orange. I'm just wondering if when it's released on Orange if I'd be able to use an Orange sim card in it. I have noticed before that when I select the carriers setting I have the option of using Orange as my carrier, so I tried my friends Orange sim in the phone, and surprise surprise it didn't work.
So my main question is, will I be able to use an Orange sim card in the iPhone after it's been made avaliable to Orange.
    Many thanks,
    Richard.

Hi sorry to crash your thread...but at the moment I'm in Oz (holidaying) and bought a new iphone 3gs (outright from the apple store)...I'm returning to the UK in a few weeks where I have a contract with 3... I'm actually just wondering if my new phone will work with 3? Cheers
As you bought the phone outright at an apple store in australia it is unlocked and will work with any carrier world wide.
Thats the beauty of an iphone in oz, it CAN be unlocked.

  • Unlocked Australian iPhone 3GS

Hi I just bought my first iPhone last week in Apple store Chermside (QLD, Australia).
I'm going to Indonesia in the next few weeks and would like to get some advise how to use the iPhone in Indonesia (i.e. which SIM card carrier should I buy?)
Another thing is, do I need to setup the iPhone again once I insert the Indonesian SIM Card?
How can I be sure that my iPhone is compeletely unlocked, therefore I would not have any issue with using Indonesian SIM Card, and when I go back to Australian and using Australian SIM Card?
    Please advise and thank you

Sorry, I don't write and speak english correctly but your problem is very important for me. Because, recently(4 december 2009) I have bought a Iphone 3GS 32 GB at VODAFONE store of Brisbane. I just live ten days at Brisbane and I wish to use it with others carriers in Europe. I have paid $75 to unlock my iphone (I have a receipt) on the website of vodafone (http://wwww.vodafone.com.au/unlock/). At the end of the processs unlocking by internet, I have got a messsage like this " This model of handset can't unlocked etc..." . I have sent many messages to technical service of VODAFONE Australia without success. Only they said me on the last one, that I will receive ASAP informations.
I am very disappointed because now, I'am in France and I can't use my iphone with other carriers.
Can you tell me if the recent model of iphone 3GS 32 GB are unlocked by a carrier less than 10 days after you have bought it. Thank you.

  • IPhone Warranty in Australia?

I have an iPhone 3GS 16GB that was bought in Germany, however i am moving to Australia in 1 week. My iPhone is still under Apples 1 Year Warranty. If i have a hardware problem on my iPhone, will Apple in Australia fix it under my Apple Warranty, although i bought it in Germany?
    Thanks

iPhone warranty is only valid in the country in which the device was sold by Apple.
If you have issues with your device in Australia you will need to send it to Apple in Germany for warranty service.

  • Get wax out of iPhone 3gs speaker?

i have acidently poured candle wax into my iPhone 3gs speaker!
I have used a pin and the like to get it out from where I can see, but I am pretty sure it is also somehwere else in the system, because I have to press it on loud speaker every call I make.
Where would I get help fromm an expert in Sydney, Australia?
    How do I fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

Not an easy fix. Search for a third-party repair shop where you live. Apple doesn't fix stuff like this, but they will swap your phone for US $149.

  • Flash player and youtube video in iphone 3gs

I just got an iphone 3gs 16gb on a plan with 3 mobile here in Perth, Australia. My iphone doesn't have a youtube application in it and i cant play any flash contents either. the main concern is that i cant play any video in youtube. does anyone have any explanations for this????

My iphone doesn't have a youtube application in it
YouTube is standard to most country's iPhones. The only reason if not would be countries like China who require software patches on the iPhone for site and program restrictions.
I cant play any flash contents either
Flash is not supported as the others have said. Everyone insisted Flash be included but the only 3.0 patch I've noticed recently is Java and animation artworks.
For example the AT&T progress bar moves now or viewing Grand Theft Auto sites for guides like finding Burger Shot I did yesterday the dots were animated now.
