UK iphone 3gs upgraded from a nokia n82

Hi there ,Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have just upgraded my trusty old nokia n82 to the new iphone 3gs .And i was told all i needed to do was take my sim out the old phone and put it in the iphone and register on line at itunes .Oh this is a UK phone on the O2 contract. Now one of my big problems seems to be that all my contacts tel/add details are stored on the sim and the iphone doesnt seem to take any of this info of the sim.Does this mean i have to put my sim back in the old phone and copy all the info down and then re type it into the iphone or computer and sync it or have i just not found the correct info page online yet .Help needed, thanks.

Import contacts from another phone’s SIM:
In Settings, tap “Mail, Contacts, Calendars,” then tap Import SIM Contacts.
The contact information on the SIM is imported to iPhone. If you have Contacts enabled for both MobileMe and Microsoft Exchange, you’re prompted to choose which account you want to add the SIM contacts to.
IMPORTANT: iPhone doesn’t store contacts on its SIM.

  • HT4623 I having difficulty in updating my iphone 3GS software from version 4.1 to version 5.1. I cannot update through my iphone & through itunes. Each time I tried a message appeared saying iphone software server cannot be contacted. Please, help

I am having difficulty in updating my iphone 3GS software from version 4.1 to version 5.1. I tried using my phone but cannot find the update software button even when I have gone through the right process by tapping SETTING, then GENERAL, yet could not find Update Software button. I mean the update Software button is not seen there.
I tried using itunes, yet no way. Each time I connect my iphone to my laptop itunes software comes up automatically and alerts me that a newer version of software for my iphone is available, It usually gives me the option of Download & Install or Download Only. Whichever of the option I click a message will always appear telling me that the iphone update server could not be contacted, then asking me to make sure that my network settings are correct and active or try again latter. Sometimes, when click on the Update button on my itune software. It will display an error has occured.
I have even tried to Restore iphone from itunes, yet the problem  keep repeating itself.
    Can anyone help me?

    Dear Tim,
I saw your message. Below are the problems:
Whenever I connect my iphone 3GS to my PC through a USB. My itunes software comes up automatically.
    1. After that a message appears from the itunes that states that 'itunes could not connect to the itunes store, an unknown error cccured (306).
    2. After the above, an alert message comes up which states that A new iphone software version 5.1 is availlable for my iphone. It then states would you like to download it and update your iphone now? With the options buttons as Cancel or Download and Update or Download Only. Whenever I clicked on Download and Update or Download Only, the next message that comes up is that The iphone Software Update Server Could not be Contacted and suggest make sure your network setting are correct and active or try again later.
The above is the challenges I am facing now.

When I disconnect my iphone 3gs(iOS) from computer, the device disappears from my itunes. This prevents me from doing a wireless sync. how do i fix it so that my device stays on itunes without having to plug it in all the time?
it worked the first few times i did it but the next day after i closed out of itunes once, the device only appears when i plug in my phone.

Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings.  Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account.  You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account.  (have restrictions turned off)  That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices.  Then sign in using the new ID.

Okay, you are using Windows 7. What version of iTunes do you have. Please don't tell me the most current one, go into Help then About iTunes and read what it says.

Is the iPhone recognizing your taps?
If it recognizes taps and is showing the disabled message, you'll have to restore the iPhone with the computer it was last synced with or restored as new from another computer.
If it doesn't recognize the taps, it sounds like you need to send it back in for service.

Sorry, but you are not addressing Apple here, we are all users in these forums, just like you.
If you buy an iPhone from another country, the warranty and service can only be handled in the country where it has been bought. Since Apple does not sip internationally, you'll have to bring the iPhone back in person or send it to someone who can do that for you in the USA.
The warranty regulations are clear about that: Read Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty for iPhone

  • Factory Unlocked iPhone 3Gs upgraded to 4.2.1 no longer working with SIMs

I think this is an ios 4.2.1 glitch.
I purchased a facotry unlocked iPhone when I was in Jordan because I travel a great deal for work and needed a phone that I could use with many SIM cards. When I set it up the first time, and several times after that when I upgraded the ios iTunes would connect to Apple and welcome me to my apple unlocked phone. For more than a year I have been able to use it will all of my SIM cards.
The last time I upgraded to ios 4.2.1 iTunes did not connect to Apple to confirm my unlocked phone. Additionally my phone will only become activated when I install my Iraqna SIM chip. It won't work with any other SIM.
I have a No Service message on my phone and while it lists all of the SIM information - when I go to General - About - Network I get a message saying 'phone not allowed' for every SIM except my Iraqna.
I tried to restore my phone to the previous ios but couldn't because of the upgraded firmware.
I tried to restore my phone and set it up and a new phone.
I am traveling at the moment and cannot afford to use my hotel phone to be put on hold while waiting to speak to a service representative. I depend on my phone and have been resisting buying a cheap Nokia or an expensive Smartphone to replace my very loved iPhone 3gs.
I also really don't want to have to illegally break into my factory unlocked phone just so that I can use it as a phone.
    Please Help.

    Hi sn4p2k.
I take it that you have not heard of this problem and therefore don't have an answer.
I am not living in America at the moment.
Apple most definitely provides factory unlocked phones outside of America. I paid $1000 for this one from an Apple authorized reseller in Amman and it worked perfectly with Apple and iTunes through several ios upgrades for more than a year.
My phone is not tied to a carrier - that is what factory unlocked means.
I upgraded my ios and now I can't use my phone.
If anyone out there has had this problem and has a suggestion or a solution I would be very grateful if you could tell me what it is.
    Thank you.

  • IPhone 3GS upgrade v3.1.3 to v4.0.1: What's Apple Doing to Resolve?

I upgraded to 4.0.1 this weekend on my iPhone 3GS and my wife's iPhone 3GS. We are now both suffering from only 5 hours of battery life.
Prior to the upgrade we enjoyed over 16 hours of battery life. The only difference is the upgraded operating system. This proves the problem is the upgrade to 4.0.1, maybe not v4.0.1 itself, but definitely the upgrade from v3.1.3 on a 3GS.
We use(d) these machines in our business and because the working business day is greater than 5 hours, this upgrade to 4.0.1 is costing us real money. If Apple wants to be considered more than an up-market toy maker, it will need to show more commitment in support of real world businesses.
Can Apple continue to refuse to accept there is a problem? I've tried ignoring the problem, like Apple, but it didn't make my battery last longer. So I guess ignoring the problem is not the correct answer? Maybe I need to hold the machine differently with v4?
I call for Apple to immediately make an optional downgrade to v3.1.3 available, or issue a fix to the v4.0.1 upgrade process/software. If any empowered employee of Apple reads this, please action immediately.
Otherwise, what is Apple doing to resolve this issue, other than ignoring it?

    Hi
When you say nothing in the csauth log... do you mean nothing at all... or nothing that looks like an error?
Try setting logging to max and seeing where it gets to.
I suspect there is something in your 3.3 config that doesnt get upgraded corectly. Its impossible for every scenario to be tested - Im not sure how much upgrade testing actually gets done. Probably left until the end of the test cycle.

  • Iphone 3GS upgrade but not all the way

I know i can upgrade my iphone 3gs (currently running 3.1.3) all the way to 6.1...
But can I just upgrade part way to 5.1.1?
My friends upgraded theirs recently from 5.1.1 to 6.1 and all they do is complain. 5.1.1 is nice and I would like to upgrade just part way.
    Thanks

No. It isn't possible to update a device other than a third generation iPod touch or original iPad only to 5.1.1, and it's only possible for those devices because they're incapable of iOS 6.

  • After 10.1 iTunes and 4.2 IOS on Iphone 3GS upgrade, old Outlook hang retur

After hours of fiddling at the worst possible time, I may have got some of my iphone back, but not yet all. Foolishly agreed to upgrade iTunes 10 to 10.1 on Vista 64-bit Home Premium, in order to upgrade iPhone 3GS from 4.1 to 4.2.
Firstly, iTunes wouldn't run after upgrade. Had to completely uninstall and reinstall iTunes and Apple App; Support, AND manually copy CoreVideo.dll from one folder to another.
Then the 4.2 installation failed midway and forced a complete recovery and restore.
Then (and this is the problem I now have, though worked around by temporarily disabling Contact, Cal;endar, Notes and Favourites sync - Mail already disabled) iTunes hangs Ouitlook so the post-Restore sync stalls.
As I write the sync is finally running - 4 hours of solid fiddling and googling after I started. But I will need to be able to re-sync all my Outl;ook data. I have done the Add-ins check in Outlook, so where do I go from here?

I notice that the iTunes was installed under the Program Files(x86) Folder and it runs under 32 bit mode.
It seems something wrong with the installer...

  • How can i downgrade my iphone 3gs ios from 6.1 to 4.1

i upgrade my 3gs iphone from 4.1 to 6.1 but unable to activate iphone, and still it is not connecting with itune but now i want to downgrade back to 4.1 from 6.1, please guide me to do this process, and also i want to know how can i factory unlock my iphone 3gs without making a phone call to Apple Care????

It seems like your phone might be done for then.. I had a White 3G do this to me.. Although I DONT suggest it, smacking it around seemed to get it connected every now and then, but if it was dropped again it would stop working..
Also, make sure your SIM card is clean & properly inserted into the phone!

  • Am I Eligible For The iPhone 3Gs Upgrade?

Ok so I purchased the original iPhone December of 2007 & signed up for a 2 year contract. I then purchased the iPhone 3G the day it came out July 2008. So basically this is my question / situation: I am not sure if I am eligible for the upgrade to iPhone 3Gs. When I got the second generation of the iPhone did that start my contract ALL over again, or did it just have it continue. Because if I didn't renew it ... then that would make me eligible for the $200 upgrade to the iPhone 3Gs. But if I did indeed start a whole new contract in July 2008, then I am not eligible right? Any help would be fantastic!
    * May I add that I have been a ATT customer for almost 10 years now, that should help my case a little right? haha

You have been an AT&T subscriber for nearly 10 years with the same upgrade policy in regards to subsidized phones - which wasn't a problem for you until now, but it should be different with the iPhone for some reason?
AT&T has been "taking" hundreds of dollars a month from you by your choice, and you received something in exchange for what you have paid every month - placing and receiving calls and probably messaging. The same would apply with any cellular provider. The provider "takes" your money every month based on your chosen calling and messaging plans, which allows you to place and receive calls and messaging.
You may be able to get AT&T to make an exception for you with the iPhone 3GS based on being a subscriber for so long, but they haven't taken your money without providing associated services in return, which you must be pretty happy with since you have been an AT&T subscriber for nearly 10 years. I certainly wouldn't allow any carrier to "take" my money everything month if I wasn't receiving what I'm paying for and expecting in return.

  • Iphone 3Gs - Upgrade OS 4.0 - Cannot buy anymore in app store & itunes

After the upgrade to OS4.0 (Iphone 3GS) I cannot buy anymore applications in App Store. I have access to the apple store and to the applications to buy but the icon with the buy/download in the right corner does not appear for any application (same for itunes - Impossible to buy musics).
I have already tried with other itunes account and the behaviour is the same. With OS3.0 I haven't any problems.
With a PC and Itunes the problem does exist and apps can be bought. The only problem is in the iphone ....
    Anyone can help ?

Thanks Tommy, but I had already tried the "Notes" setting on and off and neither seemed to make any difference.
I just tried to email a Voice Memo, another feature I use regularly, and it had the same problems as before however this time it wouldn't even send a message to the Outbox.
I decided to try a few differnent mail accounts I have, POP3, IMAP and HOTMAIL to see if any of them would work. Interestingly, when I created a new POP3 account and clicked "Save", during the verification process for this new POP3 account it produced an error with the IMAP account!
I thought I should just delete the newly created POP3 account as well as my normal IMAP account (this one noted in the first post above) and then I'd recreate the IMAP account. As I deleted the POP3 account, I heard the sound that is played when an email is sent, the phone then automatically switched to the Mail application and showed the Outbox with all of my previous attempts to send Notes and Voice Memos from the last couple of days. Which all sent successfully.
So even though I was able to send and receive emails during this time, it would seem the OS4.0 upgrade butchered something in the IMAP account settings, which caused both the Notes and Voice Memos to have issues.
It all seems to be working OK now, I just thought I would share this solution/work-around in case anyone else is having the same problems as I did.

  • IPhone 3Gs - upgrade to OS4.0 failed and I can't restore anymore (error 36)

I tried to upgrade my iPhone 3gs to the new OS4 and I received an error message (unknown error (36)) during the process. I can't turn the phone on anymore and it is not possible to restore it using iTunes 9.2.
I tried to follow the steps described in the topic http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2469544&start=0&tstart=30
however it hasn't worked. I've downloaded the OS4 file about 10 times, always deleting the previous one located in the DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS folder. I've also tried to install the 3.1.3 firmware but iTunes didn't accept it (error 3194), showing me another error message...
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

  • IPhone 3GS upgraded to iOS5, vibrate doesn't work

I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS5 a couple weeks back and since then vibrate hasn't worked.
I've checked that vibrate is enabled in Sounds and also checked Notifications.
I managed to get the iPhone to vibrate once after the upgrade, but not since. Even using the silent switch doesn't vibrate the phone anymore, neither does plugging the phone into a power source.
    Any ideas?

Hi to the forum. This is my first post - ever!
It's taken me 25 years of Apple equipment purchase and enthusiastic advocation to get to this point.
And what has got me here? 'The GPS on my iPhone 3G has doesn't work'. If you Google this statement you get 12 million hits. It seems to me that's probably 12 million people who have a problem with an Apple product they've purchased.
I've read a lot of the solutions that other users have come up with - dozens of different ones. I've updated the iPhone software as soon as I can, I've been patient, I've given Apple chance to sort it out. I've even gone back to printing out Google maps onto paper (remember 'paper') and taken those out with me in the car to find my way around town.
However - the southern hemisphere summer is coming and I want to use the (totally brilliant) Navionics chart/GPS App on the boat. No chance. According to the iPhone we're in Africa not New Zealand.
So what to do? I can't find any 'official' info from Apple. I've no idea how the politics of these situations work - and I don't care! 12 million hits can't be wrong. Apple needs to tell it's users what is happening (even if they're still working on it), and when we can expect a fix.
Come on Apple, keep us in the loop - we love your products - and we want to keep advocating for you!
PS - this is the best place I could find to have ths little discusion - if anyone has a more direct line to God (err I mean Apple) please let me know!
