UK only: Forms 11g experiences at Special Interest Group?

Hi
Please forgive me for posting in the Forms forum with a non-technical request...
I'm organising the agenda for the UK OUG Application Server & Middleware Special Interest Group on 2nd March (London & Warrington) which is themed around 11g upgrade. I am frantically trying to find someone in the UK who has upgraded to Forms 11g and would be willing to come along and share their experiences.
You could speak for as long or as little as you like (e.g. 10, 15, 30, 45 minutes) and I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by your peers, many of whom are on 10.1.2 and will be starting to worry about the end of premier support later this year.
If you have any questions please contact me directly (SimonH and the domain is veriton.co.uk) or Anna in the UKOUG office (see [UKOUG office contacts|http://www.ukoug.org/about/staff_directory.jsp?parent=0&id=20] ).
Thanks!
Simon

By the way, we managed to get [Mr John Stegeman|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/profile.jspa?userID=480262], someone probably very familiar to OTN developer forum readers, to speak about a recent Forms 11g migration :)

  • Oracle Primavera Special Interest Group (OPSIG)

    Hello All,
    I am not sure if everyone is aware of this but there is now an offical Oracle Primavera Special Interest Group (OPSIG). This group is organized under OAUG and Quest Internationall, and has a website at www.PrimaveraSig.com
    OPSIG Mission:
    The Oracle Primavera SIG will provide a forum of open discussion and education of Oracle products, applications and related issues associated with the Primavera Suite of Products. These tools include, but are not limited to, Primavera Project Management (P6), Contract Management , Risk Analysis, and Portfolio Management, along with the supported interfaces with Oracle ERP systems and methodologies. The OPSIG will also recommend enhancements to Oracle for all of the Project and Program Management Tools in Primavera.
    The SIG was formed in support of both OAUG and Quest International objectives to promote the formation of Special Interest Groups for users of Oracle Primavera. It provides a forum for sharing information, experiences and different solutions.
    We are sponsoring over 40 presentations at COLLABORATE 11 this year, and aim to make this yearly conference a key destination for Primavera users. www.Collaborate11.org

  • [Swiss JSF Users] JSF Special-Interest-Group Switzerland

    JSF is proving more and more competitive each day. A increasing number of
    companies are developing applications based on JSF.
    Often the same questions/problems/hints are valid for almost all users of
    JSF. Internationally some active communities have been established. Last
    year a first encounter of JSF-entusiasts created the idea of "JSFDays Europe",
    a conference that allows to get in touch with the main players int he
    JSF-universe and to meet also informally. This first encounter took place
    in Munich, was organized on very short notice during the Oktoberfest. An
    intense session with the JSF expert group lead Ed Burns allowed the users
    to voice their wishes for JSF 2.0 and regognize the "approachability" of
    the JSF-people at Sun. Within Switzerland so far the contacts between the
    users are rather sporadic and more on a one-to-one basis.
    Hopefully some contacts have been added during the Jazoon-conference. We
    would like to go one step further and establish the networking between
    Swiss-JSF users. An active community can help in solving problems or even
    create components that are usefull for some or all members. And in
    Switzerland we encounter some problems (like i18n, as most of our
    applications need to be available in multiple languages) that other
    international users do not encounter or encounter later or to a lesser extent.
    The JSF-specification is driven by requirements that are brought to the
    Expert Group discussing the specifications. So far much input has come
    from framework-architects, appserver-providers and tool-creators. It's
    about time the actual users let hear their voices as well. Although the
    expert group members can be contacted and have proven to be very
    responsive, requirements coming from an official user-group have more
    importance.
    Establishing a "JSF user group" as a independant community or a
    "special interest group" under the umbrella of the
    "JUGS (Java User Group Switzerland)" could be the outcome of this meeting.
    The underline the importance of "interaction" and communication for the
    community, we propose short presentations with much space for discussion.
    Date: Thursday, 2007-06-28 (right after the end of Jazoon 07)
    Place: Zurich, close to the location of Jazoon 07 (but not yet defined)
    Agenda:
    - 16:30 - 17:30: HTTP-GET interface into JSF-applications
         Presenter: Ed Burns
         Abstract: First ideas on the upcoming GET-interface into
    JSF-applications. ...
         30 minutes presentation, 30 minutes discussion on
    these ideas and their implications on the applications
    - 17:30 - 18:30 (resp. open end): JSF, Quo Vadis?
         Presenter: Ed Burns, Alexander Jesse
         Abstract:
         - Where is JSF heading? The Expert Group is forming and discussing
    the next version of the JSF-spec right now.
    What are the ideas driving the EG?
         - Where is JSF heading in Switzerland? Can we say a User Group is
    forming right now? What could be the plans of this group? Should
    it participate in the "JSFDays Europe" initiative?
    In order to plan the upcoming first meeting (room,...) we would appreciate
    feedback from all interested people. Also from those that cannot come to
    the first meeting, but would welcome the foundation of the
    JSF Special-Interest-Group Switzerland.

  • UK-only: Would you like to speak about Forms 11g (and get a free lunch!)?

    Hi. Firstly, sorry for posting a non-technical question to the Forms forum - this is not something I've done lightly, but I am struggling to find a Forms specialist.
    We have a UK Oracle User Group middleware SIG event on 25th March, themed around "OFM 11g upgrade", and I am very keen to try to find someone to speak about their experiences with installing/running Forms 11g on Fusion Middleware 11g/WebLogic. I would prefer someone from outside of Oracle if possible, for agenda balance.
    If you are UK-based, have some experiences of Forms 11g and would be willing to share them with a bunch of about 40-50 like-minded & friendly people please contact myself or [email protected]
    Note: you don't need to be a UKOUG member and a complimentary lunch will be provided...

    No I am not management, but a mere code monkey that does analysis work and work with oracle forms/reports, etc. It is a struggle to get management excited about Oracle when all they think of is 'oh no, another course, and money to upgrade the infrastructure'.
    as Oracle should know by now as well as the special interest groups as with the hand raising of who is working with the latest version...not many.
    i have gone to the UK OUG and gone back to work with great suggestions only to be blocked by management and investment in IT development.
    perhaps this is where the SIGs should go...go with the current versions and its limitations and how by luck and brilliance that us 'code monkeys' have managed to pl/sql our way out of issues.
    as the grant ronald (sp) sorry mate about name. i've seen you at various places and you see hands raising up, but what you don't see is those who are embarrassed not to put them up when you ask placently who is running on older versions..and to dwindle down to earlier versions...
    perhaps you should put a SIG on those who are really working in the real work and have a specific oracle forms one. then there is where you will get your answer to your questions..and i'm sure you will hear time and time again what was posted on your post...
    oh free lunch is always a good thing :)

  • Insert Only Forms with custom Page Lifecycle class

    I discovered a bug/inconsistency in the JHS Generator:
    The business case (translated to the HR schema) is
    We have an Insert Only form for creating new Departments. (Group name: DepartmentsEntry)
    When the user saves a new Department, we want to forward them
    using the Faces Navigation Handler to the group named "Departments".
    The implementation we used:
    - Create a custom class which extends oracle.jheadstart.controller.jsf.lifecycle.JhsPageLifecycle.
    This class overrides the onCommit method: if there are errors we stay on this page,
    otherwise we redirect the user.
    - Specify this classname in the Page Lifecycle Class property (under "Customization Settings") within the Application Definition Editor.
    When we then try to run the page, the Insert-Only form does not work as expected;
    The user has to click on the "New Department" button first.
    I see that the specified classname occurs in the ControllerClass property of
    the Page Definition file DepartmentsEntryPageDef.xml file.
    The way I solved the problem was to create a custom groupFacesConfig.vm template
    which specifies the managed-bean-class property of the ${JHS.current.group.name}PageLifecycle managed bean.
    This then solves the problem - the InsertOnly form works as expected.
    This is not as I would expect the "Page Lifecycle Class" property to be used.
    In my opinion the "Page Lifecycle Class" property should also be used in the default groupdFacesConfig.vm template and not only in the Page Definition file.
    Is this behaviour expected?

    Cliff,
    You are right, this is a bug that has been fixed for the upcoming 10.1.3.2 release.
    Steven Davelaar,
    JHeadstart Team.

  • Forms 11g on Vista 64

    I am unable to install Forms 11g on Vista 64 bit. I've applied all as Jan Carlin's suggested and had no success
    The installation fails on Create Domain. the installation basically timeout after 10 minutes or so with errors relating to Node Manager
    I've tried with Sun JDk, Jrockit, Windows 95/2003 Compatibility mode and Native mode and all fail at the same place.
    I've also noticed that I can not run Windows scripts installed by Forms installation (*.cmd) either.
    (like startWeb...) I get an error line "\Smart was not expected ..." on the command line.
    two questions:
    is there a way to get Forms 11g working on Vista?
    is there going to be a patch for Windows Vista / Windows 7 and when?
    thanks

    " \Common was unexpected at this time."
    This message is a Standart message from Windows Console, not Oracle itslef !
    I search for abotu 2 days and i found something interesting...
    My way, was to find where in those CMD files there was an error....
    I just to add some "Echo" function in those file. Is long as me message was print in the console, there was no problem BEFORE that line
    About 10 minutes later i found That
    File : C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd
    Line289     set PATH=C:\Oracle\Middleware\LocalDev_1\bin;%PATH%
    Before this line all Echo message appear, others dont... So that line was my problem
    It's a special line that add to PATH Environnement Variable a new value... Fine...
    What was in path ?
    in my case :
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\LocalDev_1\bin;
    C:\app\Jean-Pierre\product\11.1.0\client_1;
    C:\app\Jean-Pierre\product\11.1.0\client_1\bin;
    %SystemRoot%\system32;
    %SystemRoot%;
    %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;
    %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;
    C:\Program Files\TortoiseSVN\bin;
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common\Divx; <=== " Oh there ! A Common name ! "
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\;
    C:\Program Files\Windows Imaging\;
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\LocalDev_1\opmn\bin;
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\LocalDev_1\opmn\lib;
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\LocalDev_1\perl\bin
    I tried to remove it, and the message change !
    " \Microsoft was unexpected at this time."
    I was thinking Oracle doesnt like the space in the folder name (Like he doesn't like it in the middleware location)
    BUT in fact, it's was de (x86) !
    SO my workaround was to remove every entry with an (x86) on my PATH variable, and the installation just go fine !
    Hope that will help lot of people having problems with Forms 11g on Windows x64!

  • Oracle Forms 11g - IE 8 issues

    Hello
    I am running Forms 11.1.1.2 in Windows XP. After installing OE 8 my forms 11g apps are not working.
    Is IE 8 not supported with Forms 11g? Which version of JRE should I use in this case?
    Thanks,
    Ram

    Unfortunately, saying "it doesn't work" won't offer enough information to allow us to say anything valuable.
    If all you want is certification information for FMw 11R1 (11.1.1.x), you can find it here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/fmw-11gr1certmatrix.xls
    If you are interested in assistance technically, please explain what you mean by "doesn't work". Does nothing happen (browser is blank when attempting to launch a form)? Is there an error message (if yes, what is it)? Does the JRE attempt to load (look in the system tray for the java icon)?
    If this is a new installation, I would recommend applying the 11.1.1.3 patch as it is the only patch that will be made available via OTN. All other patches are only available using MyOracleSupport (support.oracle.com).
    The 11.1.1.3 patch can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/fmw-11-download-092893.html
    Look for "Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer (11.1.1.3.0)". Also note that before installing this, you will need to bring WLS to version 10.3.3 in order to ensure compatibility. That can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic/downloads/wls-main-097127.html
    Do NOT install a version newer than what is supported with the FMw version you are using.

    InoL, Thank you very much.
    I know rp2rro.pll was there, and I compiled it successfully, and place it to the correct folder.

    In addition to Craig's feedback consider the following:
    If you did not read the system requirements and installation guide, you likely will have problems.
    http://docs.oracle.com/html/E25460_01/r2_fr_requirements.htm
    <blockquote>1. Does your machine have a static IP address and/or the Windows Loopback adapter installed and configured?
    2. You indicated that you have 2gig of RAM. This is the minimum requirement just to install the product. It is very unlikely that you will be able to comfortably use the product with 2gig of RAM. Likely the performance will be so slow that processes will timeout before they can successfully start. You can actually see this occurring already - look carefully at the log info you posted.
    Further, if you are also attempting to run an 11g database on the same machine, this will never happen. Having only 2gig of RAM will never support running the DB and the components of FMw, and the Operating System.</blockquote>
