UK Product Shipping - How exactly do they do it?

On Friday 15th I ordered a customised i7 MacBook Pro, and received the shipment confirmation email on Monday 18th.
Since Monday, I have looked at the order status a few times, and gone onto the "Track Order" page, where; under the "Tracking Number" section I was presented with something saying it will be updated shortly - no actual tracking number, the predicted delivery date is the 29th, so I want to know where they're delivering it from.
Royal Mail only take 4 days for international shipping to anywhere in the world, so why should this take so long when you're paying almost £2,000 for something.
Does anyone actually know the process of shipping that Apple use to ship to UK customers? Surely they send it via plane, what sort of plane is this? Or if you know otherwise please let me know!
Thank you in anticipation.
James

What exactly is InheritableThreadLocal Storage, andI have only seen one previous use of ThreadLocal objects and it was somewhere on http://www.javaworld.com on a solution to the Java double-checked locking problem.
Roughly speaking, previously to Java1.2 you had two variable-type choices in Java. The first is a static variable that is the same across ALL instances of a class. The second was an instance variable, that is can be different in EVERY instance of a class. Java 1.2 introduced the ThreadLocal variable-type. If a variable type is ThreadLocal, then every running Thread may see a different value for the variable - essentially it is a Map of Threads to values.
InheritableThreadLocal is finely different from ThreadLocal. They are almost identical excepting that if one Thread is spawned from another (ie. it is a "child" thread) then the value of the InheritableThreadLocal variable will be the same in the child Thread as the parent Thread.
As to when it could be used, I'm not so sure (other than the no-brainer "when you want a variable to have different values in different Threads"). I'd be interested to hear about any instances where someone has used a variable such as this.

  • SCCM 2012 and .PCK files - how exactly are they used?

Ok, no one, not even Microsoft engineers can seem to provide a clear and definitive answer on this topic, everyone's understanding of the .PCK file with relation to SCCM 2012 is clear as mud.
I understand what .PCK files are...in the SCCM 2007 world, and how they work, all that jazz, what I don't understand is how/when/why they would be used by SCCM 2012...it seems that sccm 2012 would only need these .pck files during a reassignment of a shared
DP in a migration scenario...even that surmise is sketchy since I've watched very closely the DP content conversion process and at
no time did the server access the .PCK files to populate the single instance store.
I am going to do some more testing on my own, my ultimate goal is to permanent delete the contents (not the folder itself) of the SMSPKG folder, essentially all the .PCK and .DL$ files to save space on my server.
If any soul out there knows..not guesses...the purpose of the .PCK file in 2012, let me know please, don't just copy/paste other people's posts as an answer, explain in clear terms each step of the process that 2012 would utilize a .PCK, or if the answer
really is that 2012 does not use .PCK files at all, let me know.
I have a single primary site with 16 secondary sites in my SCCM 2007 environment, I'm migrating to a single primary with 16 distribution points...so even if .PCK's are used to populate secondary sites, I should not need them since I won't have any secondary
sites once all of my DP's are migrated...yeah?
    Thanks!
    Terry

Thanks for the reply Torsten, that would make sense if my primary site had any .pck files at all (my sccm 2012 site that is) only my DP's have .pck files. I have no child sites in my 2012 hierarchy unless DP's are child sites (I thought secondary sites are
child..) When my DP's require a package they get them from my primary site, not other DP's. I have no 'Pull' DP's setup.
If SCCM 2012 uses a 'single instance store', which contains 3 folders itself that seem to contain compressed versions of the package files, then there should be no need for another folder that also contains compressed files...just a thought.

  • I know how to make firefox 12's tabs go to the bottom, but even so they still dont look exactly as they did in 3.6, how do I make them look exactly the same?

Considering a few websites stopped working for me seeing as I was still using 3.6.X, I reluctantly decided to finally upgrade today, and it automatically upgraded to version 12. Needless to say, I wanted it to look exactly as it did in 3.6.26, and I spent a good portion of the day tinkering with various add-ons and the like to get things back the way they were. One thing is still bugging me though, the tabs, which I managed to get to the bottom of the screen, still dont look exactly as they did. There used to be a small dividing line between the tabs and the actual page, and the + on the new tab button was smaller (and I know this all seems rather picky, but it does bother me). And while I'm at it, is there any add-on that will give me the same back/forward, X, refresh, and home icons as 3.6.26? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Try this extension for the button:

It should be possible to get the needed modifications.

Is it possible that you are using the same password for the old O2 Study and newer O2 Apple Base Station networks?
If so, Keychain Access is storing the old information about the old network and may be associating it with your AirPort Extreme settings based on the BSSID that William has mentioned.
If that's the case, open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access and look for a listing with the old network name. Delete this entry. You may need to power down both the computer and the AirPort Extreme and restart them.

  • I per-oredered my iphone 5 on september 18 and it says preparing to ship, how long will i wait???

I pre-oredered my iphone 5 on september 18, and today 10-9-12 it says preparing to ship, how long will i wait until i get it in the mail???

I have contacted my service provider about the same issue in regards to ordering my phone (the day after it came out) and still have not received it. They told me Apple has not shipped them any more phones and they are waiting on the Apple distribution of the new phone. From a stock holder and loyal patron of apples I am deeply dissapointed in the distirbution of the 5. As I can see in reading some of these post I am not the only person expriencing these issues and would like to know what is going on. Either they are fixing a problem or poorly managed the distribution of this new product. Hopfully they pull it together.

  • How exactly are item shown in item LOV on PO Line

    Hi everybody,
I want to understand how exactly items are shown in item LOV on PO Line.
The reason I am asking is we can set purchaseable property on individual organizations not just at validation organization .
what I mean is lets say if I have three organization in a operating unit Organization A,Organization B and validation org Organization V.
now item X is assigned to all organization but purchaseable only in B and V.
If I am creating PO,should I see this item in item list on PO line?
At this stage I wouldnt have entered ship to organization , so if system is going to show me this item and I am going to select organization A in ship to organization field in Shipments screen, will system prevent me?

All the items that are purchasable in the organization which is chosen as validation organization in the purchasing options ->purchasing will show up. Usually this is master org. If you are controlling this attribute at the child org level, it will still show up in the LOV in PO Lines as this is defined as Purchasable in the master org which you might have used as validation org. But if the item is purhsable only in B anv V and only these two orgs will come in the LOV in the shipments.A will not come in your case.
    Thanks

  • Third Party Applications? What exactly are they?

    Right,
I've read alot about the Blue Screen that appears when Upgrading to OSX Leopard. I am intending on upgrading tomorrow when my external hard drive arrives so I can Clone my 10.4.11 onto the external hard drive and upgrade the cloned version first but would like to know if I can check in advance for any of these' Third party App's'? and what exactly are they?
    Regards,

A third party application is anything not made by Apple. It can also include products that Apple purchased fairly recently (some of those "Pro" apps) that weren't coded to Apple's specfications and haven't been well tested. Apple doesn't and shouldn't test their software with third party applications. It isn't their job to test other people's software. They probably make exceptions for things like Office and Photoshop, but that is a short list.
Most third party applications will be fine. The ones you have to worry about are those that ask for your password when you install them. They can then install any sort of incompatible software.
After you clone your hard drive, verify that you can boot from the external drive and all your data is there. If so, don't upgrade the external drive. Boot using the 10.5 DVD and immediately run Disk Utility and re-partition your internal hard drive to wipe it out completely. Then install Leopard. Do not use Migration Assistant. Re-install all your 3rd party applications that are 10.5 compatible. Be very careful about copying over from backup anything in a Library/Preferences folder. You can copy any preference file from a third party application back over - those are safe. Anything from Apple may have been upgraded. Only copy over the Apple files that you absolutely have to, such as your Mail folder and Address book file, for example.
It sounds like a lot of work but it will only take a couple of hours.

  • HT1420 i have more than 5 apple products.  how can i get them to all be authorized under one id?

I have more than 5 apple products and I want to have them all autorized under one id.  How do I do that for the itunes?  It seems ridiculous that apple would limit me to 5 products or less.

The limit is 5 computers and as far as I know that can't be increased- are you including iPads, iPhones and/or iPod Touches in your products ? If so then they don't count towards the 5.

  • Product registration, how can I tell what I've registered?

Quite frankly, I didn't know where to place this so please accept my apologies in advance if this isn't the right forum.
My question is how can I see all of the products, at one glance, that I currently have registered with Apple? I want to make sure I've registered everything I own and remove those Apple products which I've sold.
    Thanks!

YEP. ShouldaCouldaWoulda! I should have had a home security system, I should be able to find the receipt, I don't have the credit card that I purchased it with any longer. Seriously folks, if I had the information I wouldn't be looking for it here. I registered the laptop, and now I simply need the serial number. Is that too much to ask?
Regrettably, it is. Calling into AppleCare is pretty much your only option at this point and I fear it might not even be a good one. I've referred numerous people to Apple when their product was lost or stolen (they needed the SN# for the claim) and Apple would not supply them with that information. Apparently they have a consumer privacy "rule" that prevents them from giving out that sort of information. One of my friends even went so far as to offer a notary-verified legal document and photo ID as proof and they wouldn't accept that to release the information.
Maybe you'll have better luck but at this point it's a phone call into AppleCare as your next (and only course) of action.

when I commenced subscriptions for PhotoshopCC i was billed $19.99 per month.  The advertised fee is now $9.99 per month for a single product.  How do I change to the lower payment plan.?

The advertised fee is now $9.99 per month for a single product.
Where are you seeing that? I still see Single App membership at US$19.99/month.
Creative Cloud free trial & plans : Adobe Creative Cloud
The only US$9.99/month offering is Photoshop+Lightroom.
So I guess you're asking to swap from the Photoshop Single App Plan to the Photography Plan (PS+LR)?

  • How to know they is space or carrier return when java read a text file.

    Hi,
    Please help.
How to know they is space or carrier return when java read a text file.
The reason is that. I want to use java for loop to read each part of value. for example: first part is the items name. After the space (I need to tell java when this is a space here and its need to skip) , following by the items prices in double value and space again (need to skip also) and etc.
    item name1
    item name2
    item name3
    item name4
    item name5
<--- here is the space to skip and another loop to read following items prices
    item price1
    item price2
    item price3
    item price4
    item price5
<--- here is another spcae again. and so on
    thank in advance!

You can check to see if the sting you read in is just nothing, depending on how you're reading it in:
    if((str = inStream.readLine().trim().equals("")))
// skip and get ready for the next section
    else
    // handle the next item
The trim() method gets rid of all leading and trailing spaces and I'm assuming you're using a stream that can use the readLine() method that returns a String.
I hope this is clear. Let me know if it isn't, I'll try and word it different, or post how you're reading the values in if you need more help.
