UK Spec HP Omen - 2.4Ghz WiFi 11n only ?

I have purchased the HP Omen from the HP Store in the UK. It is the UK Spec model with £ keyboard etc.
On the US sites it shows as having decent WiFi (11ac) however the model that has arrived only seems to have a basic 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 Ghz card (Intel?)  It will not work with 5Ghz or 11ac. This seems a touch naff for a "power" laptop.
Given the US models seem to offer 2.4/5Ghz as well as 11ac HP appears to have downgraded the UK model which is not so impressive given the price does not seem to have dropped for the one model you are offering.
So the questions are
1. Are the 5Ghz antenna and connectors still in the UK model
2. Can I fit an alternative Intel WiFi card as per the US models ?         Intel 7260HMWWB
3. Does this board also include the Bluetooth in which case I need a different model 7260.HMWWBR
4. Will this invalidate my warranty
5. Why do you ship such a crummy adapter with this PC ?
Thanks

I have had someone from HP US contact me.
I have passed through the details they have asked for.
I have asked if
1. The antenna are still in so that the insertion of a dual 2.4/5Ghz adapter is worthwhile. If the antenna and connector cables are not in the hardware build it is a waste of time.
2. If it is practical to swap the card for a more effective model. There are multiple version of the 7260. 2.4Ghz only (the one in this model), 2.4/5Ghz, some with 11ac. The other issues is that some models also provide the Bluetooth 4.0 engineering as well. So if the existing card also provides the BT4 then the new cards needs to have 11ac on 2.4Ghz, 11ac on 5Ghz and BT4.
The other issue is that access to fit it will require replacement ofthe plastic/rubber strip around the bottom of the unit as i suspect the screws are under this so it is not something that can be done without replacement of these strips as they will be one time fit at a guess ?
I will update on any feedback from the HP team where valuable. I really don't get how someone managed to release a high end laptop with "you should be scared" as a title with the weakest WiFi card in existance. Given how overcrowded 2.4Ghz is the use of 5Ghz for streaming traffic is more valuable than ever and most APs now support 11ac on both bands. Nuts.

  • Airport Express 802.11n only 2.4GHZ setting

I'm bit puzzled..I just configured my Airport Express with 802.11n only 2.4GHZ -setting and another Airport Express to extend the network, yet my old MacMini is still able to use the new setup WiFi connection even tough it only supports only 802.11a/b/g.
Could it be that the 2nd AE actually extends the network with 802.11a/b/g/n support? Other possibility is that 802.11n only 2.4GHZ -setting is not really taken as config by the main AE despite Airport Utility shows it as such.
    Ideas ? Comments ?

Addtional info both AE's now have ver 7.5.2 installed, prior it was 7.6 and situation is still the same.

  • HH4 vs Nexus 4 - 2.4GHz Wifi Issue

Has anyone else encountered this issue?
I can connect to the 2.4GHz wifi network and all will be fine for quite some time. Then there will come a day that I get home, turn back on the wifi on my phone and it'll continuously try to connect to the wifi but will keep failing (and repeat). If I reboot the HH4 then all will be OK ... until the next time (a few weeks).
I get no such issue when connecting to the 5GHz wifi (I have the 2.4 and 5 frequencies with separate SSIDs).
Not a show-stopper, since I have a workaround. But any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router

  • MBP APE can not connect to 802.11n only 5GHz

I purchased a 17" MBP about a month ago and then got the APE two weeks ago.
I am running DSL to a Linksys (not WiFi) router. I attached the APE to the Linksys and created a network using 'Bridge'. Everything worked great. During setup I tested 802.11n (b/g compatible) and 802.11n only 5GHz, but left it at b/g compatible. Airport Utility is on my G5 dual 1.8 which is hard wired to my Linksys.
A week ago I lost the connection from my MBP to the APE. I unplugged the APE for a minute and then plugged it back in. I got my connection back. This has happened only once.
A few days ago I applied the APE update to my MBP and everything seemed okay.
Today I tried switching from b/g compatible to n only (5 GHz). When I choose n only from Airport Utility my MBP can no longer see my APE network (this did work before).
I did a restart, Repaired Permissions and I also unplugged the APE. No joy.
Everything is fine with b/g compatible but n only does not work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    --ken

Yes, I did run the n enabler when I first set up my MBP and I was able to connect as n only for several weeks. Then two things happened, I lost connectivity which unplugging the APE fixed and a few days later I ran the APE for Intel update.
    Thanks,

  • Can't join "802.11n only 5Ghz" but can connect to "802.11n only 2.4 GHz"

Using an airport extreme and two MacBook C2D's, I'd like to have the airport create an "802.11n only 5 GHz" network using WPA2 Personal security. For some reason, I can create an 802.11n only 2.4 GHz network and join it, but am unable to join the exact same network using 5 GHz.
Can anyone help me solve this?
I live in an urban environment with TONS of competing networks / microwaves / sonos / cell phones / cordless phones ... on the 2.4Ghz bandwidth and want to use 5 Ghz. What could be causing this problem?

Me reporting back again - I may have narrowed down the problem, on my system at least. I bought a new Airport express with 802.11n capability and I set it up as a separate network to my stereo, broadcasting at 5GHz. It worked fine, and in fact it eliminated the interference problem I was having. Since my computer manages at 5 GHz, as well as the new Airport Express, it means that the problems I have been having broadcasting at 5GHz originate from the Airport Extreme base station. Could be that others are having that problem as well? I'm only sorry that the base station is beyond the warranty period, so I can't return it.

  • 802.11n only 5GHz or 802.11b/g compatible?

Using a wireless connection to an AE, I don't notice any difference in speed and/or performance with my MB while in the "802.11n only" (5GHz) mode compared to the "802.11b/g compatible" (2.4GHz) mode. No matter which mode, I don't seem to get more than 130 MBit/s. Could someone please provide me the correct AE settings and/or tweaks necessary for me to obtain the optimum speed. FYI, my AE is connected via Ethernet to a cable modem with Charter Communications 5.2 Mb/s High Speed Internet service. (I already installed the 10.5.8 combo update with no problems)

I see you have marked this solved... but would just like to confirm. Are you using download speeds as your measurement?... or moving files within your local network? For the most part, even FiOS... which is generally the fastest internet available for the average consumer... will not saturate the bandwidth of 802.11g. You will not see any faster internet speeds using 802.11n vs. 802.11g.

  • Airport Extreme - Only the 802.11n only (5 ghz) works

Airport Extreme - Only the 802.11n only (5 ghz) works
Posted: Sep 21, 2008 2:50 AM Reply Email
I just bought an new Airport extreme Base station, and i am not very good with network settings. I am experience an weird problem.
I follow the instruction to set up the Airport extreme. I get the green light on the extreme, everything went well up to that point. but then when i try to connect to the internet wirlessly, it won't let me.
The weird thing is... the computers that were connecting wirely to the Airport extreme using ethernet works fine. but my macbook pro and along with other labtops are not being able to connect to the internet. On my macbook pro, it first says connection failed after i put in my password. but after couple try on entering the password( i thought i typed it in wrong), it finally connected to the network but still no internet. then I went to the network preference panel to check, it says i am connected but with a self-assigned IP and may not be able to connect to the internet.
The even worse thing is... if i change my airport extreme to only broadcast the 802.11n only (5 GHZ) mode, everything works fine. But of course I have some device in the house are not N compatible, which makes this "solution" pretty useless. I understand n is faster and all, but I still want my G compatible device to work with my network.
It will be really nice if anyone can give me a solution and help me get the 802.11n (a/b/g compatible) works.
    Thank you.

I am having the exact same issue with my Macbooks. I have 2 Macbooks and they've all stopped connecting to the Airport Extreme router via wireless N. Yeah, I can switch to 5ghz mode, but then my PC laptop, iPod Touch, wireless printer, Xbox 360 wifi adapter and Nintendo Wii all can't connect as they all use wireless a/b/g.
BRUTAL. When are we going to get a fix for this? How do I roll back to a previous rev of OSX, if that's the issue (it must be, as this recently stopped working - i.e. when I installed the latest OS update - when it has worked fine for months).

  • 850KB/sec - 950KB/sec transfer rate across 11n only, 5 GHz network

I checked my network speed while transferring a large file (10.5.3 Combo Update) between two of my Macs. The speed was fluctuating by the second and generally remained between 850KB/sec to 950KB/sec with occasional bursts up to 1 MB/sec.
Bottleneck for the network is a wireless link operating 11n only at 5GHz. Other router specs are default. One factor is that I am transmitting through 2 old style stucco walls with chicken wire in the walls (Faraday cages). Distance between AEBS and Airport express is about 40 ft.
Any comments or opinions if this is an acceptable (or not) rate would be appreciated. What would be a normal maximum rate if I weren't trying to transmit through 2 Faraday cages.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
In order to avoid confusion, please note that bits and bytes are not the same. For most practical purposes, one byte can be said to be roughly ten bits.
So, for example, 850 kilobytes per second (850 kB/s) would then correspond to 8500 kilobits per second (8500 kbps) or approximately 8.5 Megabits per second (8.5 Mbps).
The speed in (wireless) networks is usually given in bits per second (bps, kbps, Mbps et cetera). A "b" here indicates that we are talking about bits (instead of a "B" for bytes).

  • IPhone has no wifi option, only WLAN

Under Setting in my iphone 4 (in China), I have no wifi option, only WLAN.  And the WLAN is not picking up any of the wifi networks that my husbands wifi picks up fine.  His phone has an option for wifi instead of WLAN.  Software update says I'm up to date, have tried restarting it a number of times.  What should I do?

Did you setup the iPhone or a store/carrier, etc?
Do you have very much material or content added to the iPhone?
If you have not added much if anything, and are comfortable resetting up the iPhone, an option is to go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings so the iPhone is back to factory, pristine condition and then set it all up again.  Unless there is something strange with this iPhone or the iOS on it, that should revert to the Apple iOS build.
But first, have you tried going to that sequence and selecting Reset Network Settings instead of the full erase?

is the wifi the only way to connecto to internet in the Iphone 3G?

No, you can connect via cellular, however you have to have a data plan for your iPhone. You may need to check with your carrier to make sure that is taken care of.

    Hi, Abril_Perez17.
This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default.  Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.  See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled.  This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.
