Ultra 5 SAMP installation

Hi,
I've got a spare ultra 5 lying around and i need someone to walk me through a SAMP installation. Is the hardware too old for Solaris 10? I'm hesitant to put linux on it as i want to try and get into solaris.
Thanks

I just got this from sun... may be helpful, I have not tried yet.

If you are not going to use the beast for x-windows any configuration on the ultra 5 should work. I have been running mysql on old sparcs and it runs well and very reliably but comparing it to mysql on a brand new ultra20m2 or even my old blade1000 makes the poor little ultra 5s weep. If you just want to play then the ultra 5 should be fine.

I have upgraded to 10.2.0.2 on a RHEL 4 64 Bit installation. I've been informed that I need to install the Ultra Search (WKSYS and/or WKPROXY) for the installation of the Oracle Identity Manager. However, I can only find the companion CD for version 10.2.0.1.

  • Ultra Search Installation Problems

    Hi,
I'm trying to configure ultra search for an existing database running oracle 9.2. i couldn't find the folder oc4j_portal and hence the config file under it. But there is a config file under j2ee/home, so i tried to use that and i fount that there is no file called default-web-site.xml file - i followed the rest of the instructions but the i could get the administration module running. is there any reason why i dont have those files and folder?

Ok I dont think i have the portal installed - is that a requirement for the ultra serach?

  • Ultra NX Installs & Works Ok until PC is Powered Off & On Again

I am running Win2k on a Dell Desktop with all ms patches, etc.
I installed the webcam software from cd and when complete install was finished it asked for a restart. I did that. When the pc was up again I plugged in the webcam and windows did a signed (with no sig) software install.
I restarted again since neither the cam detector program nor the monitor could detect the webcam even though its led was on. Then the camera worked fine. I sent video mail, checked out yahoo video messenger - all seemed ok. Until I shutdown and restarted the pc.
When restarted from pc power off, the webcam was detected anew, like the drivers were gone. Device manager showed a yellow question mark next to the ultra nx device.
I have now completely re-installed twice including the double restarts. Power down reboots still lose the drivers. What gives?

I have the same problem. If I unplug and re-plug the camera, then the computer recognizes the cam again, but if I shut down, when I turn the PC on , the cam is not recognized.

  • ATI 9500 & KT4 Ultra - 2 installs, 2 different results

    Ok this is weird.
i had a gf4 ti4200 on my msi kt4 ultra, worked really well. but i switched it for an ati 9500np 128mb. i tried it on and it worked fine.
i tried the softmod to 9700 and it worked fine.
everything was wonderfull till a couple of days ago
    the computer wouldn't boot windows.
it would stop after the loading screen
so i put my winxp cd and installed xp in a different partition. after that was done, i installed the ati drivers and control panel (same as used in the previous install). i tried 3dmark. CRASH and reboot of computer. hummm let me check the properties... hey AGP is disabled! so i instaled 4.45 hyperion, the same i have in the other winxp setup. no good. same black screen and crash.
so i installed directx9...just like in the older winxp. no luck. still crashes.
i'm running out of ideas, the only thing that misses there is updating windows xp, but i checked the windows update logs and none of them mention anything to do with graphics system. just outlook problems and stuff like that.
i can't update that install of XP cause i exceeded my bandwith already, so i can't check that out.
i'm preety sure the problems will still go on.
its a terminal problem cause no d3d aplications will run AT ALL.  one opelgl game worked  ?(  this is weird
thank god i was able to restore my previous winxp and it said the ATI drivers had gone bad. i reinstalled them and redid the softmod to 9700. its still working very well. but the other install just crashes immediatly.
    any ideas?

    ok i found the problem
both 3dmark ad DXdiag where reporting no agp transfers (agp texturing OFF)
i tried uninstalling via 4.45 agp drivers. no luck
then i installed 4.43 over the 45. it worked! no more crashes! i even got the softmod9700 working.
well, i don't understand why one install works with 4.45 and the other doesn't. but its the truth.

  • Need help about an unrecognized installer

    Hello,
I need some help about installing a software. I bought a softsynth called Ultra Focus. Inside the discs, there is a folder for a Mac Installer. And the file called Ultra Focus Installer is not being recognized by Tiger. And, this file does not have an extension. Just a white file called Ultra Focus Installer. I don't know what to do to install the software. Is this a common issue?
    Thanks!

And, I don't know what is CMD+i. Can you describe what it is?
Sorry, CMD+i means the Apple/Command/Clover Leaf key, (depending on KB), plus the i key, it's the same as, and a Shortcut to Finder>File>Get info.
I suggest this at the moment...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.

  • Can't apply Ultra Search to an upgraded Oracle Home. Do I have any options?

    Hi
    I've made a mistake!!
I created an Oracle Home, upgraded it to 10.2.0.4 and then created a new DB. This now contains SOA Suite and Content Management users which is working great.
I now need to add Ultra Search to this DB, but the install for this won't work as the installer expects a 10.2.0.1 home. Anyway, it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway I would have thought as it would apply 10.2.0.1 software to a more recent version.
So, not being a DBA, do I have any options?
For example, I thought about creating a new home, adding all the extra software and then upgrading the home to 10.2.0.4. Then, could I clone the DB to this new home?
Any advice would be most appreciated.....
    Many thanks
    Chris

I can confirm that Ultra search cannot be installed by dbca in 10.2.0.4 database. It complains about invalid objects during installation in the created schema. Investigation showed up its some wrapped plsql package implementations that cannot be compiled.
When installing first 10.2.0.1 db, then patching to 10.2.0.3, then installing companion 10.2.0.1 and patching companion again to 10.2.0.3, Ultra search installation works in dbca.
Ultra search is needed for example by metadata creation assistant 10.1.4 (for Oracle internet directory 10.1.4). So Oracle internet directory cannot be installed on 10.2.0.4. Oracle probably didn't test this possibility

  • Problems Installing Oracle Metadata Repository into Existing Database

    Folks,
I'm slowly going through the process of installing the Metadata Repository into a 10g database, using RepCA I've managed to determine all the DB parameters required for setting etc. The only thing RepCA now reports is missing is the Ultrasearch schema & packages.
I've copied the ultrasearch dirs from the RepCA distribution and placed them in my $ORACLE home dir, I've also attempted to run the admin install script 'wk0setup.sql' which throws out several errors listed below. If anyone has successfully gone through this process on Solaris I would love to hear your about your experience & advice.

    Hi guys,
I have used copy of that package from Oracle Identity Management installation, version 10.1.4.0.1 and have been able to complete manual Ultra Search installation. It's valid in dba_registry. After that I did run RepCA and metadata schemas have been created successfully in existing database, version 10.2.0.2. Be careful about database version, only 10.2.0.2 is certified with Oracle Identity management, so you need to run patch for upgrade to 10.2.0.2.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installation problem on Ultra 10

    Hi,
I bought a used Ultra 10 machine, but the person who sold me the machine told me that he has formatted the hard disk.
I need to install Solaris 8 on this machine, I have the correct CD's (Solaris for Sparc) and when I get the OK prompt, I am saying "boot crdom".
When I do this I get an error "wrong magic number", can you please let me know how to overcome this problem.
The configuration of my machine is
    Ultra 10
    RAM: 512Mb
    HDD: 9.1 GB
The next questoin that I have is, whether I can add another Hard drive that can be bought from Best Buy or any other similar store. If YES then, can I use any IDE drive that is available (Example: 30GB Western Digital)
I dont know if Ultra 10's can have any size of hard disk, please give some info on this.
    Thanks in advance
    Vasanth

When trying to install Solaris and you receive the error "Wrong magic number... " , you do not have a bad disk. Sun hard disks are formatted with a special number at the first part of the disk. If it does not match this number it will spit out a "Wrong magic number..." error. If you receive this error the CD will escape to a make shift shell. From this shell you can run the command format, which will allow you to format your hard drive and place the correct magic number at the beginning of the drive. Reboot the machine and you should be set. The Solaris installer will let your re-partition your drive just as you have done in your previous installations and you should be set.

  • Solaris 8 on Ultra 2 Enterprise installation problem...

I've a Sun Ultra 2 Enterprise with dual 200 Mhz UltraSPARC I and I tried to install Solaris 8, I download the binaries from Sun site and I burnt the CDs. Insert them in the CDROM drive, I type "boot cdrom", the installation started and it started also the grafical interface, the mouse doesn't work (the cursor still in the center of the screen) and appear a Console windows that asks if Solaris should use the slice c0t0d0s1 for swap, but the keybord (I use a type 5C keyboard and mouse) don't write, so I can't type "yes", but STOP+A works and on OPB I can write.
In the end, on the grafical interface of installation mouse doesn't work and I can't write (works only STOP, arrows, ecc...)
    Thanks, Paolo.

Well, to install the box you could type
    boot cdrom - install w
that will give you the textbased install GUI if you are booting from Solaris CD 1/2 . You might have to get a working mouse later, but this will at least install the OS for you.

When ever I am trying to install solaris 8 or 9 on this server it is server. The installation is going through fine. But after the reboot the server is panic-ing.
some times with (when installed 64 bit )
    not found : maxclsysprI
    do_relocations : /platform/sun4u/kernel/sparcv9/genunix
panic - boot : exitto64 returned from client program

panic - boot : exitto returned from client program
    program terminated.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks,
    Mitra.

    1. Please check whether you Name Server is alive. You can check that
    using ping command.
    2. If you prefer to use DNS/NIS/NIS+, you must modify nsswitch.conf
file to reflect that. Please check out nsswitch.nisplus file in /etc
directory. In that file, /etc/nsswitch.conf it should say for
hosts line 'dns files', if dns is the first one to resolve the host
    names.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installation of Solaris on an old Sun Ultra 2

I have acquired an old Sun Ultra 2 and would like to install Solaris on it. One slight problem I have is that there is no floppy or CD drives. The only drive I have attached to the device is a tape drive, and I don't have solaris tape media. Could anyone offer a suggestion as to how I can install Solaris on this machine. Thanks in Advance

Do you have a disk drive inside Sun Ultra 2?.
If yes, you can do a network installation from another system (like
linux or another Solaris box). The Solaris media are available
    from Sun web site.

  • Installation help - Ultra 450

I just purchased a used Sun Ultra Enterprise 450 server to experiment with Solaris (I'm an old SCO Unix guy but new to Solaris). It's loaded with 20 9GB drives. I'd like to set up software RAID. Where is the best place to get good installation / configuration notes that will help with installing Solaris on this hardware?
    Thanks..

To give you a short concise idea of where you are headed you will be installing the os on the '0' drive in the cage, get the OS in, network up and running and apply the cluster patches.
From there you may want to do the following:
setup mirroring of the root drive using the '1' drive and do what needs to be done, try it till you understand it.
Then you want to look at setting up the other drives in various configurations, do the man page on metastat and start reading about meta devices, thats the sun software raid stuff.
This command will take a disc t0 and duplicate the layout on disk t1, handy and quick. Try it with format first then decide.
    prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s2 | fmthard -s /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s2
Do whichever discs you want in a meta device. For sure play with the hot spares too, then pull a drive and replace it. It's fun having that sized box to play with.
The commands I put in bold will all have man pages. Also the site docs.sun.com will have step-by-step procedures.
One recommendation though is get the whole thing running on one disck, mirror it, remove the disc and remirror. That way you can keep that fully functioning disc off to the side, keep it as a copy and if you have to wipe the box you can always stick it back in and remirror. Save you reinstalling. When you do the install don't take the defaults on the disc layour, leave at least 1 gig on the / or root partition, leaves you room for the patch clusters and expanding them. Also I would choose the OEM and everything option. Have the network card plugged into a switch too or you will end up having to plumb it later on.
Most of all have fun...also up front the install will take a while, I seem to remember those 450's came with a 2x or 4x cdrom so you can go out and eat lunch between cd changes...
