Ultra DMA mode 6

OK, after numerous tries, I failed to boot from IDE3 with the moded bios 5.6 that let you use ide3 and ide4 as normal ide channels.  Now don't even ask me question about that, I don't want to here anything related to this.
Now I have flashed again to the standard bios version 5.6.  I have my DVD-RW master on IDE2 (Ultra DMA mode2 = 33.33MBps = optimal) and my CD-RW as slave (multi word DMA mode 2 = 16.6 MBps= optimal ).  My hd is master on IDE1.  In my bios it says my hd is running in PIO mode 4, in windows xp it says it's running in Ultra DMA mode 5 (which I assume is UDMA100= not optimal).  Why can't a ATA133 certified motherboard and a ATA133 certified HD can't work at UDMA mode 6?
I'm getting nervous here, I want my hd in UDMA mode 6!!!!!!
Yes I use 80 wire cable.  And  my hd is alone on it's channel, nothing could stop it!
Is it XP? MSI? me?!?

Yes - the standard IDE ports are ATA-133/UDMA-6 compliant.  I don't know how to make WIN-XP show them as UDMA-6 but I'm sure someone else will.  It isn't really important however as current ATA-133 drives do not perform better than a good ATA-100 drive.

  • Ultra dma mode 5 does it matter?

    Hi
If I connect one of my maxtor diamond 9 sata hardisks to the promise sata controller, the boot up information says the promise controller is using ultra dma mode 5. My question is what is the correct mode that a sata drive should use? Should it be ultra dma mode 6, or is the dma mode at all relevant for a sata drive?

its fine it matters not at all when drives on the controller

  • How to enable Ultra DMA Mode 6?

I've a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Serial ATA HD. The highest mode I can achieve is Ultra ATA-100 (mode 5) and not the maximum support by Barracuda the Ultra ATA-133 (mode 6). How can I enable mode 6 in Windows XP?

I know this is an old question and perhaps the technology has changed since it was discussed.  However, I too have been trying to enable Ultra DMA 6 on my Windows XP machine using two 300GB Maxtor Diamond 10 drives (SATA Ultra 16 150mb).  Well, I finally figured out that when I change On Chip ATA Operating Mode From Native Mode to Legacy Mode, the windows hardware manager now indicates that all drives are running in Ultra DMA 6.  The reality is that there is really no difference in the drive benchmarks when tested with Sandra.  The DMA 5 actually may be a bit faster.  What's the deal?????

  • Ultra Dma Mode, second ide

Got a MSI Ultra 745 and on 1st Ide udma mode 5 is on as it should be. But on ide 2 i cant make it run udma mode 5. It just makes it to udma mode 2. The disks are IBM 180gxp 120gb and runs smoothly on udma 5 on ide 1. Downloaded latest ide drivers from SiS, still wont wrk. Got latest bios and are using smartdisk option in bios setup.
    Help ?

Are you using an 80 pin ide cable on the secondary ide channel?

  • K7N2 Delta2 - Multi-Word DMA Mode 2

Well, I was having problems getting windows XP to access my Seagate SATA 120 Gig Hard Drive at anything other than Multi-Word DMA Mode 2.  Finally figured out what I had to do. After messing with cables and SATA connections and generally mucking around for several days, I decided, just for giggles, to enable RAID.
Did not want to run RAID configuration but it worked.  The listing in windows Device Manager now shows the drive as Ultra DMA Mode 6.  When you enable RAID in BIOS make sure to go in and enable it for SATA as well (consult manual).  When I rebooted it asked to hit F10 to set up RAID, this I ignored.  Finished booting into windows and new hardware wizard started up.  Inserted floppy disk (included in Motherboard bundle) with the NVIDIA raid drivers. That was all.  I expect that if you are experiencing similar problems with ATA disks, it might work there too.  Hmmm, maybe I will give that a try next!
I had sent a number of email to tech support and they never mentioned this, food for thought!

    Another update just came in from MSI support;
    Quote
Would you please follow the steps below to verify?
    1.       connect to the SATA HDD to SATA1 on the MB;
    2.       boot system up and enter BIOS, Load Optimized defaults; set Integrated PeripheralsàOnboard DeviceàSerial ATAàEnabled;Save&exit setup;
    3.       enter OS, go to Device Manager, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, right click NVIDIA nForce2
SATA Controller and select Properties, choose Primary Channel, then check what transfer mode the SATA HDD works at. We suggest you capture the picture and send it to us. Thanks!
Well, since I was already connected to SATA1 I decided, why not.  Maybe third time is a charm (installing the NVIDA drivers that is).  So I downloaded the drivers from their link, installed, and rebooted.  I now have NVidia MCPS2S Parallel ATA Controller (v2.6) and NVidia MCPS2S Serial ATA Compatible Controller (v2.6) in the device manager under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers".
When I checked the details of the Serial ATA controller the Seagate drive shows up as Serial ATA DMA for transfer mode. When I checked the Parallel controller my IDE drive shows up as Ultra DMA 5 - Ultra 100 for transfer mode. Looks like all is good now and as it should be.
NOTE: had to disable RAID on a reboot to get drive to show up in Windows...hmmm.  It worked what can I say!
Thanks to the people at MSI support for convincing me to install the NVidia driver set again.
    P.S. NVIDIA nForce2 System Drivers for MCP2S
God I like it when a plan comes together!  Hooah!

  • Dma mode

should I leave dma mode auto in bios and windows or set it in windows device manager from let bios select dma to picking ultra dma and leave auto in bios ??
Its just that its seems really slow to transfer from cd to hdd
Also the sata1/sata2 and sata3/sata4 dma tranfer, should tha tbe set to disabled or enabled.
lol on last think my new antec truepower 550 watt EPS12V reports in core centre and bios this : [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] 11.86.   My worry was the 12V, are those readings ok ?
    Thanks Phil

why do you think the 12V gives this reading on a brand new psu ? :(   should I take it back ?
I tried my antec trupower430 and that gets a reading of 11.98-12.02 on the 12v

Inside normal windows computing the ide drivers for sata drives has the dma enabled and overrides the bios setting as it dont communicate through bios.
why does it in device manager say let bios select transfer rate ??  shoud I set this to serial ata for hdd and u/dma4 ultra 66 ? for cd and dvd player ???, or leave it let bios select tranfer mode   ??

  • Error 10846 occurs only if DMA mode for transfer ist selected

    Hello,
my problem is if I use the DMA mode to for transferring data to the PCs memory always the error 10846 occurs.
I perform the buffered semiperiod measurement with a continuous buffer (circular buffer).
I tried to use Interrupts. The error does not occured.
    Is this a known problem?
I read another thread in this forum. But there are no useful answers up to now.
    I'm thankful for any hints.
    Regards Peter

    Hi Peter,
The NI-DAQ Help Manual gives this description for the error:
"Your application was unable to retrieve data from the background acquisition buffer fast enough so the unretrieved data was overwritten with new data. To prevent this error, you might increase the size of the background acquisition buffer, increase the amount of data you read from it per call to the read function/VI, slow down your acquisition rate, or reduce the number of tasks your computer is performing."
This is all valid info because I believe that your acquisition rate is on the verge of being too fast for your buffer size and the number of data points you are reading into your application each time. Therefore, DMA, which is a faster transfer mechanism to get data from your c
ard to the PC memory is probably loading the PC memory with many samples until it catches up with the data acquisition card where as Interrupts will gradually transfer the data to the PC memory. This means DMA is bursting data to a PC memory buffer that is slightly too small while Interrupts are transferring at the same rate you are reading (unless you change your acquisition rate depending on the transfer protocol).
I think the only change you need is to increase the size of your buffer (PC memory). If that doesn't work, also increase the number of points you read from the buffer each time by your application program. There will be a balance between these two numbers that will allow smooth operation with DMA. Hope that helps.

  • Can I have a general daq event in visual basic while outputing in dma mode?

    Hardware: PCI-6711
    Software: Visual Basic 6.0
    NI-DAQ 6.9.3f3
    Windows 2000
I can't get the GeneralDAQEvent_Fire subroutine to happen. I'm trying to output two synchronized waveforms on two channels at sampling rates that can be changed on the fly. To do this, I've set the clock source of the channels to be the GPCTR1. I output on a pulse train on the GPCTR1 and adjust the pulse widths to vary the frequency. I need to be able to switch to the new pulse width at a precise time so that the correct samples are output at the correct samplerate. I want to generate a general daq event which fires whenever a certain number of pulses (and thus samples) on the GPCTR1 have been output. I will
then reset the event and output samplerate within the GeneralDAQEvent_Fire subroutine for the next section of samples. I need to output at up to 1 MSample/second, so I need to be using DMA mode. I have not read anywhere that DAQEvent 0 Aqcuired or Generated n Scans requires interrupt mode, am I wrong about this? I have set my Channel string to CTR1, does this reference the GPCTR1? I set the board, DAQTrigVal0 and enabled properties and then call the refresh method. Is there something else I should do?
I have been reading the NIDAQ Function Reference Help and the NIDAQ for PC Reference manual and have not found a solution. Any suggestions? Also, where can I find info on what the ConfigureDaqEvent method is supposed to do?

    Roz,
First of all, I think you will want to use DAQ Event 1 since you desire for a message to be sent after every N updates. This will be more efficient than removing the current message and adding a new message each time the event fires. Furthermore, DAQ Events 0-2 can all be used with DMA transfers. However, you will be unable to use a counter channel with DAQ Events 0-2. Instead you should use one of the analog output channel you are clocking with the counter's output.
    Good luck with your application.

  • Bridge CS6 'Ultra Compact Mode?'

Hi, can anyone tell me why there is no ultra compact mode in Bridge CS6?  Personally this makes Bridge unusable as in compact mode it is too big and clutters up my workspace in InDesign. Is there another way to make it smaller.
    Many thanks

why there is no ultra compact mode in Bridge CS6?
They replaced this option in CS5 with the Mini Bridge Panel. This is a panel to be used in Photoshop and InDesign. In InDesign you find it under the menu view/minibridge. Check it and you be presented with a panel that enables you to reach Bridge content within InDesign without the need to switch from application.
However to my personal believe (as a photograper woth PS, not much experience with ID) there is a lot to improve for this panel. But if you first create a collection from content you want to lok at or do need to use I found it usefull to open the MB panel and choose to show the collection. Drag and drop should place your files to the open document.

  • Ultra Stamina Mode problem

Yesterday I've updated my phone to 4.4.4, and today I've activated the Ultra Stamina Mode option, and when it was done loading, everything was working fine.. I've disabled Ultra Stamina Mode, the phone rebooted, everything was working fine until I've enabled the Ultra Stamina Mode again, and after it was done loading, then I had to go.. I've listened to music on my MDR-ZX610AP(which btw, the button is now finally working), and after 30 minutes, when I came back home, I wanted to disable Ultra Stamina Mode, but it didn't work(I've tapped on the notification and pressed Okay as usually, but the phone was simply not responding to that command, I mean it was not preparing for reboot), so I've rebooted the phone by holding power and selecting restart, and after the restart, I got stuck somewhere between Ultra Stamina Mode and the normal mode.. My screen is gray, I only have some apps.. And I've tried to reenter the Ultra Stamina Mode and get back to normal, nothing.. Tried to reboot in normal mode, nothing.. What can I do, beside repairing using pc companion or factory reset? I don't really want to lose my data..

    Hi,
That sounds strange. I suggest that you boot your phone into safe mode to see if you experience the same behaviour:
    http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008
Otherwise, it sounds like you need to perform a software repair or a factory reset.

  • GX600 cant change from PIO to DMA mode

    Hi
I have a very irritating problem with my GX600.
I have currently switched my OS from Vista to XP.
My secondary IDE Channel is currently stuck in PIO Mode.(Which causes DVD's, Audio CD's and Burning to Lag terribly.)
I have tried uninstalling the IDE channel but there's no success on reboot.
Could someone please help with this problem.
    Thanks

had a similar problem back then. WinXP Sp2. For some reason my 2nd hdd was set to PIO mode. I uninstalled it from the device manager, then restarted my system. After you log on to windows, it will reinstall  some host driver again. Then it will be set to DMA mode.
Pardon for not being clear with the terms i used. I'm on a different OS now and I'm not using the old box anymore.
I have tired this and it did not work...
Does anyone have XP on the GX600?
I will try and update the BIOS and im hoping it will work.

  • R61 Second HDD Bay DMA mode

    Hello,
I'm using R61 to which I've replaced the DVD drive with an UltraBay adapter and a Western Digital 320GB HDD to expand my data storage. Everything is OK but the second HDD runs in Multi-Word DMA mode 2.
I've done with both the latest Intel Chipset patch and Lenovo Max Storage patch on Windows Vista 32-bit. After those patches some SATA device drivers have changed to new ones, but ATA channel 0 controller runs still in Multi-Word DMA mode 2, which is a setting for ODD.
I know that the controller for the UltraBay is PATA controller, so the SATA HDD in my UltraBay is converted to PATA mode by converting chip in the UltraBay adapter. But what I'm curious about is why it doesn't run in ATA DMA mode 4 or 5 set for HDD.
After replacing ODD with a HDD in UltraBay, the ATA driver doesn't change the DMA mode from Multi-Word  DMA mode 2 to ATA mode 4 or 5.
Anybody has the same problem or a solution to this?

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever find the solution for this?  I have the same problem with my T61.  I can't get my WD Black SATA drive to transfer at anything above Multi-Word DMA 2 (16MB/sec).  It's incredibly annoying, and I can't seem to find much online about it.

  • My PlextorPX-708A won't run in DMA mode

My PlextorPX-708A won't run in DMA mode I've tried reinstalling it and this was also a fresh install of winXP with Service Pack1a, my other dvd dive which is made by shuttle and is older will run in DMA mode and PIO mode but the plextor DVd writer won't and when I use it in PIO mode music and videos play slow in it what is the problem, I have a MSI K7N2 Delta mobo and the two drives are hooked on the secondary IDE channel and I tried swapping both drives to slave or master What is the problem
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi,
Bobby: When you are booting and the machine detects your HD's and CD-ROM's sometimes the firmware version is shown along with the drive's ID details, press "Pause" on the keyboard if you don't get time to read it!
Another way is to go Start>Settings>Control Panel> Double-click "System" then "Hardware" tab - then click "Device Manager" look for "DVD/CD-ROM Drives" in the list of hardware and then click on "+" on the left hand side - your CD-ROM drives should now be listed - right-click on the drive you want the info on, then down the menu to "Properties" then click on the "Details" tab - this should show you  the "Device ID" and hopefully the firmware version. (my apologies for writing this step-by-step guide but I though I'd include it just in case)
Or another way is explained on Plextor's site here:
