Ultra Search Installation Problems
Hi,
I'm trying to configure ultra search for an existing database running oracle 9.2. i couldn't find the folder oc4j_portal and hence the config file under it. But there is a config file under j2ee/home, so i tried to use that and i fount that there is no file called default-web-site.xml file - i followed the rest of the instructions but the i could get the administration module running. is there any reason why i dont have those files and folder?
Ok I dont think i have the portal installed - is that a requirement for the ultra serach?

I have upgraded to 10.2.0.2 on a RHEL 4 64 Bit installation. I've been informed that I need to install the Ultra Search (WKSYS and/or WKPROXY) for the installation of the Oracle Identity Manager. However, I can only find the companion CD for version 10.2.0.1.
Am I screwed?
Thanks!Bump? Help?

Can't apply Ultra Search to an upgraded Oracle Home. Do I have any options?
Hi
I've made a mistake!!
I created an Oracle Home, upgraded it to 10.2.0.4 and then created a new DB. This now contains SOA Suite and Content Management users which is working great.
I now need to add Ultra Search to this DB, but the install for this won't work as the installer expects a 10.2.0.1 home. Anyway, it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway I would have thought as it would apply 10.2.0.1 software to a more recent version.
So, not being a DBA, do I have any options?
For example, I thought about creating a new home, adding all the extra software and then upgrading the home to 10.2.0.4. Then, could I clone the DB to this new home?
Any advice would be most appreciated.....
Many thanks
ChrisI can confirm that Ultra search cannot be installed by dbca in 10.2.0.4 database. It complains about invalid objects during installation in the created schema. Investigation showed up its some wrapped plsql package implementations that cannot be compiled.
When installing first 10.2.0.1 db, then patching to 10.2.0.3, then installing companion 10.2.0.1 and patching companion again to 10.2.0.3, Ultra search installation works in dbca.
Ultra search is needed for example by metadata creation assistant 10.1.4 (for Oracle internet directory 10.1.4). So Oracle internet directory cannot be installed on 10.2.0.4. Oracle probably didn't test this possibility -
Problem in installing Ultra Search
Hi all,
We are facing problem while installing Ultra Search for Oracle 9i in Sun Solaris server. The Ultra Search documentation says that the middle tier component includes the following :
1. Ultra Search admininstration tool
2. Ultra Search Java query API
3. Ultra Search Java server page sample query qpplication
But we are unable to see it either in the Oracle Universal Installer's list of installed components or in the database server's file system. The documentation says that for deploying the Ultra Search Administration Tool on a Third Party Middle Tier, the ear file :
$ORACLE_HOME/ultrasearch/webapp/ultrasearch_admin.ear
should be present. But we cannot find the directory "webapp" at that location.
Does the ear file already get extracted during installation ?
Are the three components listed above shown in the Oracle Universal Installer's list ?
Where can we get the ear file for installation on a Third Party Application Server (iPlanet Server) ?
Can anyone outline the Installation process for Ultra Search ?
Thanks in advance.Hi,
I assume you are installing Oracle 9iR2.
It seems OUI did not install most of the Ultra Search files. Can you check in your
oraInventory/Components directory for oracle.isearch.*?
You should see
oracle.isearch.client
oracle.isearch.is_common
oracle.isearch.server
If not, these components have not been installed. Please check your installation procedure
to make sure the following are checked:
Oracle Ultra Search Middle-Tier
Oracle Ultra Search Common Files
Oracle Ultra Search Server
follow up with me if you still have problems.

Ultra Search Portlet Configuration Problem
Guten Tag,
we are using OracleAS 10g Rel. 2 Portal. I've registered the Provider for Ultra Search.
Now I understand that I have to add a data source in the OC4J_Portal configuration file "data-sources.xml"
I want to make Ultra Search crawl and search our Portal.
So I need to create a news Instance with the following entries (also for the data-sources.xml):
- username and password are the Oracle Ultra Search instance owner's database user name and password.
where do I find these info? It all has been done automatically by the RepCa when installing the IASPortal... ?- database_host is the host name of the back end database computer.
is this the URL of our portal server (with or without /pls/portal/)?- oracle_port is the port to the user's Oracle Database.
the standard Port of the Oracle Listener (1521)?- oracle_sid is the SID of the user's Oracle Database.
Where do I get the SID of Portal DB after Installation?Thx,
GerhardHi echee!
I don't know what happened in the weekend, but now the Ultra Search portlet doesn't throws any exception.
It seems works correctly.
Maybe the servers was restarted or the sheduled crawler recovered something in the indexed data.
I'm totally surprised.
I checked the log files, but I didn't find any failure message.
Now I must build a new Search Portlet for our portal, and I will contact you, if the problem returns.

Gavin,
This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris
patches which were distributed at about the same time. However, you say
you're using 4.10.903, and as far as I know the problem should be fixed
in that version.
You could try the workaround described in
http://www.tarantella.com/documentation/sgd/ee/4.0/install.html - search
for "tta_pkgadd" on that page and follow the instructions given there.

This is the error that occurs when I install the 9.0.4 AS into a 10g database. I run the repository CA first to populate the db and then procced to install the infrastructure. Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit)
First of all my windows is not genuine, but on my friend's desktop oracle download and installation worked fine, he chose "create and configure database" options, and it works very well on his desktop, though his windows is also illegitimate. In my case, when I select "Create and configure database" option and pressed 'next",
(Go to my blog to see it with snapshots: Computer Science: Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit))
it asks to select class, I select "Desktop class" and pressed "next". The moment I pressed "next", the whole setup thing disappeared like it was never started. I searched for all possible reasons for why its not getting installed on my laptop, I used registry cleaner s/w, deleted 25 GB of data to create free space if it were the problem, increased the virtual memory to increase the space for RAM, I did almost everything to get this setup working, but I found no success with the "Create and Configure database" option
and
then
I chose a "database software only" option and chose to store in a folder w/o spaces. This way, I got database s/w only and then later I found "Database configuration Assistant (DBCA)" from windows START button and clicked to create and configure database manually. The steps are pretty much interactive and doesn't involve much brainstorming.
The values I filled for
1) Global Database Name : orcl
2) System Identifier : orcl
3) I chose common password for both SYS and SYSTEM
4) while on Enterprise Manager Configuration step, It asked me to create and configure listener in oracle home, so for that too, I typed "netca" in windows START menu and clicked it. There I added a listener.
5) I chose a Storage area which was the Oracle-home itself i.e. where our installation files goes , in my case it is : C:\oracle_base\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oradata
6) Then after few more nitty-gritty clicks, we are set to go !
Finally to write SQL code and to create your first TABLE , type "sqlplus" in windows "START" menu and click it when it appears. A command-prompt like window appears , which will ask you for username and password, so here they are :
Username : sys/ as sysdba
Password : (its the one you created in step 3 stated above )
After this you are ready to write your first SQL command. Is this your solution to your original post at Oracle database 11g release 2 installation on windows 7 (64-bit) ?
Pl be aware that you should not create any custom objects in SYS or SYSTEM schema - you should create any such objects in a separate custom schema.

few doubts
Is it possible to go ahead for IDM installation without having ultra search enabled in database?
any other way around that i can have ultra search?
after applying patchset on basic version(10201) i am installing ultra search from basic version (as patchset doesnt have companion dir) on upgraded version(10204) causing this issue?
Thanks,my guess was correct. the issue was last point.
After applying patchset on basic version(10201) i am installing ultra search from basic version (as patchset doesnt have companion dir) on upgraded version(10204) causing this issue?
it was resolved by uninstalling DB, and again installing from basic version (10201) then went to companion CD, installed ultrasearch on same oracle_home. it got installed without any issue.
then upgraded to 10204. then created DB, and enabled ultrasearch by DBCA.
let me know in case of more details required. -
SQL Developer Installation Problems
Hi,
We are trying to find a workable alternative to TOAD and have tried to install SQL Developer with not much success.... I think I am just about to give up but hope this last attempt to post for help can create a miracle.
I would appreciate very much if any one knows of a comprehensive document out there that can help trouble shoot the installation problems.
Let me give you the hardware and software versions first and then the problems.
1) SQL Developer tried: sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213-no-jre and sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213
2) JRE tried: JRE 1.5 and JRE 6 (C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03)
3) Window: XP Professional version 2002 Service pack 2
4) Hardware: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM
Problems:
1) SQL Developer could not find native JDBC. I don't understand why, despite all the variables set in Oracleclient10g_basic in the registry, SQL Developer did not seem to be able to find a 10g client on a network drive. I have to install 10g client directly onto my pc (C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1) to solve this problem.
2) SQL Developer abruptly disappeared after database login.
I was able to connect and log into an Oralce 10g database with TNS Connect Identifier approach. There were objects (tables, views, etc) showed up briefly on the left hand side of the SQL Developer and then it just completely disappeared without even an error message or a tearful good-bye.
The only thing I can find is this error log about EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. After hours searching through OTN for possible mentioning of this error with SQL Developer, I found nothing so far.
Why is it so difficult to install SQL Developer? Are there a set of un-spoken pre-requisites that has to be satisfied before it can be installed properly? If so, what are they? Path system variable? Registry? Anything else?
Here's the complete EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error log:

Is this a java problem? SQL Developer problem? Or something else?
Thanks in advance,
a TOAD loverThe problem you are seeing (the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) is a result of a version mismatch between the JDBC driver being used by SQL Developer and the Oracle client that is found on the path.
This issue only occurs when trying to use the OCI version of the JDBC driver. The simplest fix is to switch to using the basic connection type and thus using the thin (all Java) JDBC driver. As no Oracle client is required in this case, the version mismatch won't be an issue.
However, the connection approach you are using should work, and if you wish to try to sort out the problems there, we should be able to further diagnose the underlying cause of the version mismatch.
To do this, I would need to see what SQL Developer thinks are the potential Oracle client installs, as well as which install it ends up picking. Can you copy/paste the output in the Log Window (Logging Page) that is present after SQL Developer starts (but before you attempt to connect to any database)? There should be a whole series of entries like 'Checking for ORACLE_HOME environment variable' and 'Checking JDBC driver at <some path>'
These log entries are output by SQL Developer as it tries to sort out the various bits of information about Oracle client installs and thus give a peek at the selection logic being used.
Oh, and also - the value of your PATH variable would be useful as well. It may be that there is an Oracle client install on the PATH that supersedes the install SQL Developer is finding via the registry or ORACLE_HOME variable.

Oracle Text And Oracle Ultra search
Hi all,
I have a problem. I have some files in the server file system e.g C:/docs. I want to search these MS Office word files in order to see if they contain a word. I tried oracle ultra search but when i put File data source it provides a form file:/// and when i put C:/docs it gives me file://localhost/C:/docs. Can i configure Oracle ultra search to search into the server file system?Where is the directory that oracle ultra search searches a file?
How can index and search the files in the file systems exept oracle ultra search? Can Oracle Text do my job?
Sorry to bother and thank you in advance for your help
Antonis.Hi,
Searching a word in a document (MS Word) can definitely be done using Oracle Text.
But, you other requirements can make things a bit complicated.
Oracle Text have something called file_datastore, where you need to mention the file_path/s and individual file names too.
Once you mention them, i.e. path and file names, oracle text can read the file , index them and you can query using simple queries.
If the number of files are huge, entering all the file names can be difficult. In that case you can give the following a try.
-- You can use a perl script to read the file name in a directory, put it into a file in a particular format (1 file name per line) and then load that text file into a table using ctxloader.
You can go through the FILE_DATASTORE and CTXLOADER examples from oracle text reference document. -

adriano.baYour 4MEM error code is indeed reporting to you that some of your RAM is not working properly (MEM = memory, i.e. RAM).
The fix for this (replacing the RAM) is normally covered under warranty for a computer as new as yours is. To get the free warranty repair I believe that you do need to bring your computer to an Apple-certified repair center, however. If you order the RAM and do it yourself, you will need to pay for the RAM and also go through the trouble of opening your computer to access the RAM, which is not that hard to do for some people, others prefer to have a technician do that.
I'd suggest that you have Apple do the RAM fix, if only so that the replacement RAM is covered as well going forward ... -
