Ultrabay battery option for ThinkPad T400s?

Is there any available Ultrabay battery option that is compatible with the new T400s?
I know we have to get the new vIII of the Ultrabay SATA adapter for replacing the optical drive with a second SATA drive on the T400s, so I was wondering if the T400s requires a new Ultrabay solutions for adding battery through the Ultrabay?

The option number you need is 43R9250 - ThinkPad Advanced Ultrabay Battery II
Hope this helps

  • Best imaging software for thinkpad t400

I am using my product recovery disks to reset my thinkpad t400 to factory settings. To prevent this factory revert in future and to just reinstall the OS with the necessary software I am thinking to purchase an imaging software like Acronis True Image or Symantec Ghost.
I tried checking on the net but getting mixed reviews. so i would like to know from experts here, Which of the two software work best with Thinkpad t400?

I confess to also finding Acronis to be a great cloning and imaging software, I haven't used anything else in years.  Although I have mostly used it for cloning I have never had a problem recovering / upgrading systems from images when the target HDD is inserted in the target system, the so called reverse image / clone.
Here's a couple of links to threads on cloning with Acronis on "older" ThinkPads, (pre T400), which were also used to create forum Knowledgebase articles. (There are also others in the KB).

  • Battery Options for W510

    Hi All,
I am having poor battery backup on my W510 and have sent my laptop multiple times to Lenovo Support , but no luck so far.
Is it possible to buy a extra battery and charge it offline and use when your laptop charger is drained?
Please suggest me what are the various battery option available for my laptop
My Laptop is : W510 Touchscreen ,i70,12G RAM
    Thanis in advance

    Hi nandudb
How long those your battery last? From what I know, W510 does not have switchable grahics, therefore power consuming. It should at most last 1h+ with 6 cell battery.
You could maxed out your battery life with this option:
55++ 9cell battery + 27++ 9cell slice battery, using two battery at once.
Image of 27++ - There is a connector between the RAM and battery slot to connect the Slice battery or Docking Station.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problem with 3rd party RAM for Thinkpad T400

    Hey everyone,
I just installed 1GB Hynix RAM (came from my macbook pro) onto my Thinkpad T400. At first, it booted up fine. I did all the memory tests and everything. No problems found.
However, every once in a while, when I reboot my laptop, the bios beeps once, three times, once, then three times. I looked up the beep codes and called customer service and it has to do with the memory.
Sometimes when I press the power button, the laptop turns on but the screen doesn't. I just have to force it to shut down then restart...then it's fine.
Any suggestions? (besides buying overpriced lenovo branded RAM)
    Thanks in advance.

    gatorman1122,
umm, i think we've already established that it's DDR3.   it's absolutely impossible to make DDR2 modules work in your system even if you removed the check pin from the socket.   and, even if you did get it to fit, your system wouldn't even POST.   the pins are different in both quantity and mapping.
what hasn't been established, however, are the exact specs (not the type) of the module installed.   what speed is the module?   what's the part number?   is it an original apple module or an aftermarket?   again, more info is needed on what you installed.
also, what beep code are you getting?   is it the beep code for memory or for something else?   you can check codes in the T400 HMM if you haven't already.

  • What Configuration for Thinkpad T400 running Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit?

    Hello,
I will soon be assisting in the purchase of a new T400 for a friend of mine to use mainly for finishing up her Masters thesis on and also to use for her work as a teacher.
She will be going from an old Dell latitude x300 (which died of course) that ran Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit. I have finally convinced her that a Thinkpad T series is the way to go and that it is worth it to pay the extra money for durability and quality.
It will be pretty much a base system as she doesn't have a whole lot of money to play with but right now with the pretty huge sale going on I hope we can get a good deal.
My question is what kind of configuration should I go for while customizing the system? I don't want to opt for a wifi card that's going to cause problems etc.
I did look at the thinkwiki.org site and it looks like most things work fine but some things may have issues, though I'm not sure how up to date that information actually is now that Ubuntu 8.10 has had some time to mature a bit.
So what I would like to know is if there are any little things that may not work that I should know about:
Bluetooth - Looks like it works according to thinkwiki.org
    What wifi card to use?
ThinkPad 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter III
Intel WiFi Link 5100 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology [add $20.00]
Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology [add $40.00] [Lenovo recommended]
I'm thinking stick with the base option but maybe having AGN functionality will be worth it for somewhat of a futureproofing idea. Is the Intel 5100 worth the extra 20 dollars? Is it fully functional now? What is better about the 5300 chipset that makes it more expensive than the 5100 chipset? Are either of these worth it? I don't want them if they are going to need some kind of hacking to get to work.
Understand this computer is not for me. It's for an english teacher who is Not a techie at all. But is comfortable using Ubuntu for basic things. I just don't want an update to break wifi everytime like it did on her old dell with the boardcom chipset.
I'm thinking pretty basic for the screen: 14.1 WXGA TFT, w/ CCFL Backlight, Camera
How well does the camera work? Looks like it should work fine but I want confirmation of this. She will be using Skype with it preferably with video conferencing so that her 1 1/2yr old daughter can talk with her father when they move away this summer. So functional video is a must.
For card slot I'm thinking:  Express Card Slot & 7-1 Media Card Reader
How well does the media card reader function? She will be using this to transfer photos off her camera. Regular sd cards work fine?
I appreciate everyone and anyone's input on this especially with this being a somewhat time sensitive purchase as the sale will end this week and she needs a new machine ASAP for her thesis writing.
Also, should would be getting the 6-cell battery instead of the default 4-cell. How much wiggle does a 6-cell have in the new T400's compared to the 9-cell in the T61's?
I purchased a T61 with 9-cell battery for my mother last summer (Running Ubuntu) and I must say the battery wiggle is absolutely horrible! One of the mounting hooks on the battery itself has become damaged and it's not from over abuse. I can't imagine the massive amount of flex/wiggle helped it at all.
I'm thinking a 6-cell on this one would provide decent enough battery life but not protrude as much as the 9-cell and hopefully be a bit more durable as I am not impressed with the 9-cell.
Oh and by the way, the video will just be the base integrated intel video, not switchable graphics as that will be unneccesary.
Sorry for the long winded post but I (we) certainly appreciate any clarity we can get!

I see you have already purchased your T400. But for others reading this, I'd recommend going with the integrated (Intel) graphics rather than the discrete or switchable graphics. As jrsmartyn said, cutting-edge hardware can present a challenge with Linux. But Intel is much more active than ATI/AMD right now with Linux driver development. That doesn't necessarily mean smooth sailing with either choice: you'll need a recent distro for Intel graphics support as well. But the near-term future looks better for Intel than for AMD graphics support.
The switchable graphics is interesting if you require higher performance than integrated graphics can provide. But it's complicated and new and I've seen many complaints that it doesn't work smoothly, especially with Linux. Another disadvantage to switchable graphics is that it seems only the ATI graphics have access to the digital video outputs (integrated DisplayPort and DVI on dock). A better option than switchable graphics may be to use an Advanced Dock with PCI express video card.

  • Battery replacement for Thinkpad X60

    Hello,
Bought a battery replacement for Thinkpad X60. When tried to install it discovered an L-shaped part of the laptop (seems non-removable) which prevents inserting the battery. Has anybody encountered such a thing?

You're referring to the plastic L-shaped part on picture #2, right? That's a spacer for the X6xs models. You can remove it by loosen the two screws with a coin.
That's an aftermarket battery, not a Lenovo one btw.

  • Part # for T400 ultrabay battery, and where to buy?

The Lenovo Web site does not seem to sell an UltraBay battery that's compatible with the T400. Or maybe it's compatible with one of them, and the T400 isn't listed for some reason.
What is the part number for the UltraBay battery that works with the T400? If it's not sold by Lenovo, why not, and where can I get one?
And is it true that the UltraBay batteries drain completely before the main battery is used so they only last a few months? If so, will this problem be fixed?

To get the part number for the UltraBay battery, check the T400 accessories page in tabook
Yes, the UltraBay battery drains first.  It's working as designed and not broken, so there's nothing to fix.

  • T400 Ultrabay Battery Issue

I just ordered and received a new Lenovo-branded Ultrabay slide-in battery for a T400.  It fits perfectly (appears to) but shows an error in the battery display and cannot even read the part number.
What came out was an FRU 42T4679  (10.8V, 2.7AH, 30WH).
    What I received was an FRU 51J0508 (10.8V, 2.9AH, 32WH).
Does anyone know if this is likely just a bad battery, or an incompatible battery?
    Thank you!

  • Ultrabay Battery for W530?

I don't see much use for the optical drive in the W530.  Is there an Ultrabay battery that can be used in that space?
I some that some of the other recent models in the refresh have the Ultrabay battery as an option, but haven't seen that for the W530 yet.  Anyone know if that is going to happen?

    del_psi wrote:
The Ultrabay battery was taken off on the W series.
That's a really odd decision.  I guess it didn't sell very well.  But given that (a) the W530 uses more power than the other Ivy Bridge laptopcs and (b) the W530 is marketed to power users, you would think that it would be a good option to have.
I liked the fact that it was integrated into the machine and didn't take up extra space.  I always disliked the way the 9 cell threw off the balance of the machine when using it, literally, on the lap.

  • Ultrabay battery for my T410

    Hi
Recently I've been starting to look around for new battery for my laptop mounted in ultrabay. When I got to know that there is no such accessories for T410 I was.... pretty surprised. Could anyone confirm this information? What do I do then? I don't want to buy new 9-cell battery. Is ultrabay battery for T410s or T400 fit to T410? Thanks for replies
    T420s type 4171-7FU

there is also the extra 9 cell battery slice that you can put in addition to the 6 cells battery, this is substantially more battery power than the ultrabay battery.

  • Lenovo Battery Spacer (FRU #92P1227 or FRU #42W3050) for ThinkPad X61s

I've bought a 8-cell battery (40Y7003) for my Lenovo ThinkPad X61s, but there no optional battery spacer (FRU #92P1227 or FRU #42W3050) comes with the battery. So there is a big backlash between the battery and the laptop chassis. I've searched through google and it seems almost impossible to get the battery spacer alone. Can you suggest any solutions to the problem?
    Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge the spacer is included in the box. Was your battery purchased from an authorised Lenovo reseller or directly?

One likely reason is the % battery is not that accurate because of the smaller battery capacity in the iPod compared to iPhone and iPad. Users why use a % battery app post that the % reading changes a lot.

  • Battery recharge options for Switch 11

Hello, I recently bought the Switch 11 knowing that the battery life was not the product's strength, shall we say. Otherwise, it's a great machine for the price, I use it in business meetings and at home.  What I didn't know was the lack of options for for charging the battery without a standard outlet. I don't have any brilliant ideas, but nothing brilliant's needed. Just an adapter that provides a charge from standalone battery packs that are everywhere on the market. I've read a response to a similar idea on these boards for the Switch 10, that this solution would only provide a slow charge. It doesn't matter - we just need something to keep it going when the grid isn't an option. This simple product would get the computer through the workday, which unfortunately it often can't do by itself. Looking more into the future, extra batteries in the keyboard doc would also solve the problem - I'd trade a little weight for hours of charge any day. Thank you -

Thanks for the feedback, cocomm.  I'm glad to hear that you like your Switch 11.  It's a pretty nifty little device.  Battery life is always a struggle in product design.  And no matter how much life it has, people want more.  Such is life, I suppose.  But as you mentioned, we have indeed had discussions on this topic here before.  I recently talked with one of our engineers about it again and the external battery units that we have seen are just not capable of providing enough added time to a product like the Switch to make them worthwhile.  The added time would only be measured in minutes, not hours.  However, I personally DO like the idea of added batteries in the keyboard/dock assembly, and have passed on that suggestion before.  I can't say yet if that will be happening soon, but it does have merit.  Thanks for contacting us.
