Ultrabeat and Hyper Editor

I have a feeling I know the answer to this question so I am just seeking confirmation really!
I have got used to changing AU controls in the hyper editor using fader event definitions. The way I generally do this is by creating a new definition, connecting a 'monitor' module to the channel in the environment and moving a knob. The monitor reports the (my terminology may be wrong) internal channel, followed by the control ID of the knob I was moving. I then set the channel and number settings on my hyper editor definition and it works fine for controlling that setting.
However, when using ultrabeat I follow exactly the same process, the channel and number gets reported by the monitor module but it never seems to work once i put that info into the hyper editor definition.
The weird thing is that it also doesn't work for inserts on the ultrabeat channel. Using a channel number of 3 or 4 for example allows me to control the inserts in slots 1 and 2 on most channels, but on an ultrabeat channel this doesnt work either!
So, is this just because of the huge array of parameters available on ultrabeat, does it just disable any kind of hyper-editing in this way because the max 'number' setting of 127 is not enough to define all the controls on ultrabeat? It's annoying that it seems to stop inserts as well because otherwise you could use extra effects to replace the stuff you can't do on ultrabeat itself..
oh well, I hope that makes sense!

These kits are mostly reasonably sized multisampled kits, and so require the EXS24 (or Garageband versions of the EXS24).
Ultrabeat's sample playback doesn't support multisampling, so you can't load those kits into Ultrabeat directly.
The best thing to do is create a blank template sample-playback only kit in Ultrabeat, then navigate to your GB samples directories and drag in the kicks/snares/hats/etc drum samples you want, and save the kit. That way, you can create dozens of UB kits with your favourite samples.

  • Creating a custom drum staff for score and hyper editor

    Can anyone clearly explain, how to create a custom drum staff to use in Score page? Each manufactor uses a different mapping. I would like to create a drum score for Korg, Yamaha, BFD, Superior etc.
    I often change drum kits (BFD, Yamaha, GM, Korg, etc) while working on a song. I want to create a drum staff style to accomodate each of these. So the drum notation will be standard drum notation.
    There is a GM drum staff style in Logic. When I use a GM kit, it works fine. But the best drum instruments use several articulations of each drum. I can't figure out how to edit it a drum staff to display what I need.
    For instance Kik is normally C1. But some some drum instruments might use B0, C1, G5, C-1, all playing different articulations of kiks. I need to create a staff style which will show all these different notes as showing up on the bottom of the drum staff (standard drum notation)
    I can create a Hyper drumkit for each different brand of drum . But I can't figure out how you incorporate that into the score editor. You must have to create a custom drum staff. But it eludes me....

  • Hyper Editor Bug

    Hi, everythings been fine but over the last few days, i have noticed that i will be working away then all of a sudden the volume slider of the channel i'm on suddenly jumps to +2.6 db. (always 2.6)
    I have no idea why this has started happening and it's really getting annoying now.
    When i record on a midi channel, it will record the jump in level in the hyper editor which leads me to believe that it is something to do with that and not automation.
    I'm not sure but i know it's **** annoying.
    Any help would really be appreciated, thanks guys

    Same here. I usually right click when I' done my actual entry to get the mouse to let go. Then I have to undo the extra info inserted before the release. Annoying, but workable.

  • Hyper editor for controling plug-ins

    Hi! the plugins won't listen to fader midievent from the hyper editor in one of my projekt. It works fine on another projekt. I try to control highcut freq on an eq on a chanal strip. I've checked that the type, channel and pitch is correct. Have anyone any idea what it could be?

    Hi, I was kinda curious about this and decided to d/load the Reaktor 5 demo and tried it out. No problem mapping screen controls from Mainstage to R5 knobs or sliders and it remembered all the connections between each patch just fine.
    I didn't do anything special just the usual click the Mainstage control then mapped the parameter to a control in Reaktor 5 and it worked fine even with the R5 demo. Maybe you can provide a little more detail on how you tried to configure?

    Why not use Expression CC#11 in HyperDraw which is available below the Piano Roll?
    Click on the line a couple of times with the pointer tool: Once before the point where you want the note to fade and another at the end point of the fade. Drag this second point down with the pointer tool.
    If there are more notes after this point that need to sound, then you need to click a third time at the existing level before you drag down the second point.
    Read the User Manual chapter entitled "Using Hyper Draw in the Piano Roll Editor"

    Is it possible to use the hyper editor to do something like: attach a pitch change to the end of all the (midi) notes within a certain range or time frame? In other words, if I want each note from bar 1 to 20 to bend up 4 semitones, is that possible?

    OK, then just draw one eighth note of pitch bend data, you'll need a hi-res grid for it to be meaningful, copy it, move the spl to the next note location and paste. You can do this all with key commands.
    The problem is that you have little control over it, other than varying the scaling that the synth responds to pitchbend. It did however, only take me 45 seconds and a few mouse clicks to open Sculpture, target envelope 2 to Pitch and set up the envelope for an eigth note sync'd to tempo. Then you just automate/toggle the Enable Envelope 2 Target 1 parameter for the bars that want the effect.
    But hey, if you want to do it with pitchbend, then you go guy!

  • Hyper editor

    in a bass line, (midi) i want one note to fade. In the hyper editor, i use the volume track and it works fine, only in the mixer the volume slider happily moves up and down acording to the volume of the hyper editors curve. To be able to control the overall volume of the bass again, i send that bass track to a bus.
    Apple midi loops are full of that little white lines and the fader in the mixer never moves. Can i manage that too? I feel i make it over complicated and there is an easier way, is there?
    Turning the region into an apple loop leaves me with the same result, the fader in the mixer still moves.
    The manual has left me clue less.

  • WhaTS going on with my hyper editor

    OK, so all of a sudden, when I create a GM set in my hyper editor the tags are wrong, for example where it says Kick 1 the sample I get is like a bongo or something, I've used the hyper edit with this instrument (the Garage band Rock Kit) like a hundred times and this has never happed before, whats going on?

    It is indeed possible to automate Instrument and FX Insert plugins using HyperEdit.
    This involves setting up Event Definitions in HyperEdit:
    Individual parameters can be accessed using 'FADER' events as the Status, with the MIDI channel setting which 'Insert' slot the events are addressing (Ch 2= I/O, Ch 3= Inset slot 1 etc). The Number parameter sets the specific parameter.
    If you only need to control a few parameters, the easiest way to set this up is to create some Track-Based automation, then convert this to Region-Based using the Track:Track Automation:Move commands.
    Once you've done this, select the events in the Event List and make a hyperset.

    Why if Logic has it All not to improve Hyper EDITOR, in the next Logic Pro 9.1.2? How long before it gets more Simpler.?

    What isn't simple? You just choose the parameters you want to enter and then point and click point and click. It even has a preset for GM drum setups.

  • Problem with Ultrabeat and Bounce in Place

    Hi,
    I'm new here and reasonably new to Logic as I have been an Ableton user for quite a few years. I was eventually enticed by Logic Express 9 due to the fantastic price and the features on offer.
    Anyway on to my problem! I have been getting my head around Ultrabeat and using multiple outputs. I discovered the Bounce in Place command for tracks and regions which is an amazing time saver. However I am noticing that when I use this command, the audio that is produced is not quite in line with the grid. Its clear to see the blank space at the start of the audio file.
    Obviously I can trim the audio down but I'm sure i shouldn't have to. I was wondering if this is either a bug or whether I am missing something?
    By the way I am using Logic Express 9.1.3 and Snow Leopard.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Windows 8.1 and Hyper-V

    Hi All
    I have successfully installed windows 8.1 and Hyper-V on my HP Probook 4540s having previously run Windows 8 but I have been totally unable to import any of my Generation 1 Virtual Machines as the wizard says no machine found. These all previously in Windows
    8. is there a setting I have not found or is this a beta (preview) problem? If there is no work around I will have to revert to Windows 8.

    I have found my own solution all be it a tedious one.
    I built a Windows Server 2012 machine and activated Hyper-V (I believe a Windows 8.0 with Hyper-V would also have worked)
    Installed the virtual machines from the Microsoft installation disks
    Exported the Machines to a USB Drive. I found that it made no difference if I powered up the VMs before exporting them. It seems that all that was required is to install them into Server 2012 Hyper-V and then export them.
    Imported the VM into Windows 8.1 and they imported correctly.
    As a trial I also exported the Machines from Windows Server 2008 R2 but these machines would not import into Windows 8.1
    I trust that this will be resolved by the installation wizard before the full release

      I doubt that this will change in the RTM version. Import/Export has changed in 2012R2 and I expect Win 8.1 to be the same.
    This was posted in reply to a similar question in the Hyper-V forum by Taylor Brown from the dev team.
    VM's that are exported from Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 utilized the version 1 WMI namespace which resulted in a .exp file to represent the exported virtual machine. 
    In Windows Server 2012 we introduced a new WMI namespace (version 2 or root\virtualization\v2) which implemented a much better import/export model – allowing you to effectively just copy the virtual machine folder (with the VM’s XML configuration file
    inside it) as well as the VM’s VHDs and then import that directly. 
    For Windows Server 2012 we maintained the version 1 WMI namespace which allowed for importing of Windows Server 2008/R2 VM’s on 2012.
    In Windows Server 2012 R2 we have removed the old version 1 namespace which means we can’t import virtual machines that where exported from Windows Server 2008/R2. 
    However we can import them if you copy the virtual machine xml file and VHD’s – to do this you need to stop the vmms on the 2008/R2 server – copy all of the virtual machine files/vhds to the Windows Server 2012 R2 server and then import them.
