UltraBeat and Korg PadKONTROL

First, Happy New Year!!!
I am trying to control UtraBeat with my Korg padKontrol.
I currently am getting the pads set up the way I want. However, anytime I try to get the 2 knobs or XY to control anything, like pitch or decay, I am not getting anywhere.
The PadKONTROL has assign buttons for the XY pad and 2 knobs. Then it has 8 pads that I can touch plus these mentioned assign buttons to change the XY pad or knobs to 8 different control settings, like pitch, decay, volume, pan, and so on... I want these to work on each selected voice in Ultrabeat individually. Does the settings on Ultrabeats midi controller assignments A, B, C, & D work on a voice per voice basis?
Some of what follows is PadKONTROL jive for any here using it, but Ultrbeat pros, please read on as well:)
On the PadKONTROL I will touch KNOB 1 ASSIGN + <PITCH>. Then in Ultrabeat I will set MIDI CONTROLLER ASSIGNMENT A to PITCH. Then, select ASSIGNMENT A's LEARN function. Then turn KNOB 1 on the padKONTROL and Logic recognizes it and seems to accept it. However when I select the correct voice in UltraBeat, trigger it and turn the knob on the PadKONTROL... I don't see or hear any pitch changes.
Maybe this lies somewhere in Logic's environment (still a noob at that). Maybe I need to assign a specific note to the knobs for UltraBeat to use it as I want. (I haven't located the documentation on this if there was any.)
Does anyone have any insight on using them together as I am trying to do.
THANKS!!

Which drum instrument are you triggering with padKontrol?
I assume you've selected whichever it is on an instrument track's input, and that same tracks output is 1-2.
All you need do now is to create a Scene which maps pK's triggers to the instrument, or use one of the default Scenes which most closely matches your instrument, such as DFH or BFD or use one of the GM Scenes - 7 or 8 I think - and that should get you started. Just hold down the scene button and press 7, for example.
I recently purchased a Korg padKontrol MIDI studio controller to use as a drum machine
At the risk of telling you something you already know, you do know that padKontrol in itself doesn't create sounds? It just triggers an instrument installed within Logic.

  • Blue Yeti and Korg PadKontrol together

It's good to see that GB recognises Yeti as a stereo mic and that my Korg PadKontrol works like a dream with very low latency...however, I decided to push my luck and boot up GB with both the Yeti & Korg plugged into the powered USB hub.
GB didn't like this one bit! Both Yeti & Korg lit up but the app became unresponsive and then the ipad crashed completely (I thought I'd bricked it!)
So my question is: Has anyone managed to have more than one usb device spliced into GB via the HUB?
I know that you can only have one armed track at the moment and so don't really need to have multiple input devices attached at the same time. However, it would be really cool to not have to be pulling cables in and out every time you want to change instruments.
I know I'm asking a lot from this amazing little app but I am sure that it will evolve rapidly and become the number one portable DAW for years to come.

A few  things to check. Make sure each track is assigned to the correct mic. Make sure the yeti is working by tapping on it to see if the track meter responds. Make sure you don't have any effects on the track. Make sure your aggregate mic settings are correct in the Audio Midi setup utility.

  • Problem with Ultrabeat and Bounce in Place

    Hi,
I'm new here and reasonably new to Logic as I have been an Ableton user for quite a few years. I was eventually enticed by Logic Express 9 due to the fantastic price and the features on offer.
Anyway on to my problem! I have been getting my head around Ultrabeat and using multiple outputs. I discovered the Bounce in Place command for tracks and regions which is an amazing time saver. However I am noticing that when I use this command, the audio that is produced is not quite in line with the grid. Its clear to see the blank space at the start of the audio file.
Obviously I can trim the audio down but I'm sure i shouldn't have to. I was wondering if this is either a bug or whether I am missing something?
By the way I am using Logic Express 9.1.3 and Snow Leopard.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi,
how do you trigger UB? Do you use pattern mode or do you use standard MIDI events?
    I cannot reproduce the problem.

  • Korg padkontrol with logic surround panning?

Has anybody used the Korg padKontrol X-Y controller pad built into the unit - to sucessfully control surround speaker panning in Logic Pro?  My intial thoughts are that it should work through learn midi controls in Logic but was interested to see if anybody has sucessfully used the controller in this context?

    Has nobody tried this?

  • Korg Padkontrol and making real-sounding drum beats

I just watched this rather eye-opening video demonstrating a little of what the PadKontrol can do. I feel like I'm going off the deep end though. The PadKontrol looks cool and glows in the dark, but I really only want to make authentic sounding beats, like something you'd hear in a Beatles or Elliott Smith song. The PadKontrol looks enticing but it seems sort of overkill. However, doing fills (and particularly rolls)on a midi keyboard just doesn't seem right. Maybe the PadKontrol isn't the answer, but I am looking for some kind of interface to make things easier.
Anyone making non-techno, non-hip-hop beats on the PadKontrol? (Heck, I might just start doing that kind of music just to use the PadKontrol. The thing looks fun.)
BTW, here's the link to that video I mentioned.

  • LE 8 and Korg Nano Pad

I recently purchased Logic Express 8. I also have a Korg Nano pad which I used to play my chopped samples in Garageband. As of yet, I haven't figured out how to do the same in LE 8. In Garageband, I would assign my chopped samples to keys on the virtual keyboard (musical typing), and play them with my Nano pad.
I'm wondering if anybody uses a Nano pad with LE 8, or knows how to assign samples to pads. Thanks.

You would need to trigger your samples in either the EXS4 or Ultrabeat plugins. There are tons of tutorials explaining how to do this on YouTube.

  • How do I use Ultrabeat and other plug-ins

I have a triton LE, MOTU 828, and an M-Audio MIDISPORT 2x2. I just recently got Logic pro running but I can't seem to be able to record the loops that I create with Ultrabeat. How do I record them??? Do I need to bus or send them? If so, how do I do that?

I need to bus or send them? If so, how do I do that?
Solo the track you want to record (ultrabeat). go to File> Bounce...set start and end position of the loop and then bounce it. Then you have a loop you can import back into Logic or where ever you want to use it. Hope this helps....

  • Logic 7.1.x and Korg software M1

I used Korg softsyn M1 as one of AU plug-in in Logic pro 7.1.1
I found the patch (sound instrument) and other parameters could not be changed (or freezed) when the Korg M1 is in multi-channel mode (8 channels).
    Any ideas?
    Howard

Maybe I used a wrong word. "Freeze" simply means parameters, including instrument/patch, cannot be changed.
Do anyone try M1 at Logic 7.x and share experience?

    You can't freeze multi-channel instruments.

  • Bounce from Ultrabeat and Lower Audio Volume

    Hi,
I have noticed that when I create an Ultrabeat pattern, drag it into the arrange window, and bounce to audio that my volume level is MUCH lower when IMPORT the bounced file back into an audio track......why?.....how do I solve?
My Ultrabeat pattern is pumping out good levels on the fader .......the audio file ...on import has almost no level .....when I overdrive the Ultrabeat pattern I get good audio levels but they are distorted...hmmmmm
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • Ultrabeat and Hyper Editor

    Hi there,
I have a feeling I know the answer to this question so I am just seeking confirmation really!
I have got used to changing AU controls in the hyper editor using fader event definitions. The way I generally do this is by creating a new definition, connecting a 'monitor' module to the channel in the environment and moving a knob. The monitor reports the (my terminology may be wrong) internal channel, followed by the control ID of the knob I was moving. I then set the channel and number settings on my hyper editor definition and it works fine for controlling that setting.
However, when using ultrabeat I follow exactly the same process, the channel and number gets reported by the monitor module but it never seems to work once i put that info into the hyper editor definition.
The weird thing is that it also doesn't work for inserts on the ultrabeat channel. Using a channel number of 3 or 4 for example allows me to control the inserts in slots 1 and 2 on most channels, but on an ultrabeat channel this doesnt work either!
So, is this just because of the huge array of parameters available on ultrabeat, does it just disable any kind of hyper-editing in this way because the max 'number' setting of 127 is not enough to define all the controls on ultrabeat? It's annoying that it seems to stop inserts as well because otherwise you could use extra effects to replace the stuff you can't do on ultrabeat itself..
oh well, I hope that makes sense!

These kits are mostly reasonably sized multisampled kits, and so require the EXS24 (or Garageband versions of the EXS24).
Ultrabeat's sample playback doesn't support multisampling, so you can't load those kits into Ultrabeat directly.
The best thing to do is create a blank template sample-playback only kit in Ultrabeat, then navigate to your GB samples directories and drag in the kicks/snares/hats/etc drum samples you want, and save the kit. That way, you can create dozens of UB kits with your favourite samples.

  • Logic 9 and Korg Kontrol 49 as a control surface

You have got to be kidding me. Logic's implementation a for the Korg Kontrol 49 is a joke.
Let's starts with the basic's. Mod Wheel does not work, sustain pedal does not work.
When I run Reason, the K-49 is a dream, everything works perfectly.
It has got to the point where I remove the K-49 driver from inside the Logic app, so I don't have to delete it from the control surface setup every time I start Logic.
If the Propellorheads can do it right so can Logic/Apple.

    Indeed.
Remove the control surface driver, and use LC Xmu instead. It's the absolute best way to use the Korg controllers with Logic, and has just about every feature you want/need.

  • Logic Pro and Korg Zero 8

I use Logic pro (8) and now I would like to record audio through Korg Zero 8.
The only sound I get is in Mic 1 - Setting, but not through firewire.
In Audio or Audio/MIDI setting I get only strange noises. Logic 8 recognizes the sound interface, but audio recording seems impossible.
Does anyone know how to fix it, if it's fixable at all?
    Thanks

I want to suggest you that a patchlist for the X50 be included with a future Logic Pro update, because it's impossible to work seriously without the name of sounds and I think that X50 will be one of the most important synth in the future (like wavestation).
    Thank you very much.

  • Ultrabeat and Multiple outputs into a new Aux strip???

    Hello,
I am new to Logic and have not been able to get a new Aux strip to take inputs from the multiple outputs ultrabeat has to offer (i.e. output 5-6). I tried to follow a tutorial I found in the help window, but couldn't get it to work. In the tutorial, when a new Aux strip is created, in the input pull down there is an option to select instruments>Ultrabeat>5-6. When I set up an Aux strip, no instrument option shows up in the input pull down. What do I do? I noticed that the tutorial I am looking at was made in 2005, and I am working in Logic Pro 9. So, maybe the issues is with the different versions. How have other logic 9 users done what I am trying to do?
    Thanks for the help.

if you didn't click the + sign in the mixer (as Sampleconstruct suggests) which automatically creates stereo and mono Auxes for that UB instance and you have created the Aux Channels in the environment etc ....by default they are in mono ...if you click on the bottom of the channel to set it to stereo then you'll see the instrument

  • Yamaha MO8 and Korg Volcas with Logic Pro X- recommendations for mixer and audio interface

I plan to use Logic Pro X to access and configure the patch list for my Yamaha MO8 workstation. The Steinberg software I downloaded previously didn't work and never allowed me to configure the sounds. From what I've heard, I was told to use a cheap mixer or a Audio/MIDI interface (like the Scarlett 2i2 or 4i4). The Yamaha MO8 will be used as a master and has MIDI IN, OUT, and THRU. I also have the Korg Volca synths to use as slaves (they only have the MIDI IN port), and plan to connect them to the MIDI THRU on the keyboard. I already have the Yamaha USB driver installed, and the Mac recognizes the device. I also have the Portmidi app and wonder if that will allow me to see the patch list (with the actual names, not numbers).
What mixer and audio/MIDI interface do you recommend to use the Yamaha MO8 and the Korg Volcas? Just to be clear, I don't want to use software synths, but would like to use the external instruments to get the audio (which I know can be selected through the Environment Panel on Logic Pro X).

Anything with 2 audio inputs and 2 MIDI outs.
-Out HP jack of Volca-1/8 to 1/4 adapter into Audio interface 1 (For any that are stereo use both 1 and 2 and use a Y splitter in addition to 1/8 to 1/4 adapters.
-Midi out from interface to Midi in of volca (Or buy a USB to MIDI interface for about $35)
-When starting up the volcas hold down the "Memory button" the LED will tell you what MIDI channel it is set to, you can change it if you wish)
-Create external MIDI track and set it to the same channel as the Volca (Only if you want to do sequencing in the DAW, if thee Volca sequencer is handling it then not necessary)
-Patch together the Volcas via the "synch out/Synch in" jacks to insure they are synched
-Record them all together or one at a time, depending on how many simultaneous tracks your interface can handle.

  • Midi / USB drop out since Lion upgrade!

Hi all, i have had great responses and success in the past with this forum, i really really hope this will continue.
I have been gigging using mainstage 2 and a M-Audio Oxygen midi keyboard controller for a few years now and until lately it's been fantastic. I will never go back to a stand alone manufactured synth. I am using a macbook pro, 2.93ghz with 8 gb ram. I initially upgraded from snow leopard to lion when it was launched but had to go back as Creative hadn't any lion drivers for use with my emu 0202 audio interface. Last month i found that they had done them and i re-upgraded to Lion. Since the upgrade i am experiencing Midi drop outs. This is to say that whilst performing i get an error message saying something like midi input device no longer available. This has happened a few times now but last night (new years eve!!), not only did i get this message which i sorted with a reboot but a few minutes later i had a midi note hang and i noticed that there was no longer any usb supplied power to my keyboard. The answer again at this stage was a reboot.
I would ideally not like to reinstall snow leopard as there are quite a few great things in lion which i would miss, but obviously if i can't resolve these issues i don't see that i have any other choice.
Any possible suggestions as to what may be causing these problems will be very much appreciated.
    Thanking you in advance
    Mark
    PS    Happy New Year

My experience with Lion was great for a while, it was effortless, everything I had attached still worked with no problems aside from needing occasional drivers.  Once Lion 10.7.2 was released, I updated my system and again, no problems.  If I recall correctly, 10.7.2 was released in October.  Suddenly in December, I began having random software and midi issues all around my system.  I do not use Mainstage but I have noticed others have had similar problems with various software and USB midi controllers, and have not seen a fix.
I regularly use Pro Tools 8, Ableton Live 8 and occasionally Reason 5.  I also have an M-Audio Axiom 61 and Korg padKontrol attached via USB.  After about 2 months of trouble-free operation, Live and Reason would not open and the accompanying software for my padKontrol no longer would either.  These apps would just "hang" and I would eventually have to force quit them.  In addition, Audio Midi Setup would also hang when attempting to switch to the midi preferences page.  Pro Tools still worked, but I could no longer receive midi signals.  I also use a wireless USB stick to connect to my home wifi signal and that no longer worked and neither did the accompanying software.
It's possible that there are deeper issues in your system as well as mine and the others having similar problems.
At times, I wonder if there is some kernel errors embedded in my computer.  I got my MacPro when Snow Leopard was fairly new and had numerous kernel errors resulting in many applications not functioning.  I eventually sorted them out but ran into similar USB related issues with the Snow Leopard 10.6.8 update, so I remained on 10.6.7 until Lion was released.
The only successful fix I've had is switching from Lion back to Snow Leopard 10.6.7 after erasing my entire hard drive.  I've tried reinstalling Lion through both upgrading from Snow Leopard and a clean install of 10.7.2 after erasing my hard drive again.
I believe my USB and midi problems stem from kernel errors somewhere but cannot find them (I have used Disk Utility many times).  I really liked using Lion but I lose so much functionality and my internet connection so I have determined that I will not be using it.  I may try Lion again when 10.7.3 is released but am wary.  If anyone has ideas on how to fix these issues, I would love to hear them.
