UltraWide Resolution Possible on MBA 2013?

I ordered a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable in hopes of using my LG 29EA93 monitor. To my dismay, the MacBook Air 2013 refuses to output to UltraWide 2560x1080 resolution.
Am I doing something wrong? Any workarounds? Or am I just stuck with using the regular 1920x1080p resolution?
I have a Windows 7 laptop that can output to 2560x1080 with an HDMI cable that fills up my monitor all the way across. I'm wondering whether if it's the Intel HD 5000, Mini DisplayPort, or Mac OS itself that's preventing UltraWide output.

According to Apple's specs here, the MBA '13 supports what you're trying to do:
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
If the Mini-DP -> HDMI cable is an Apple one call AppleCare.  Otherwise, check the spec for the adapter you're using.  If it claims to support that resolution, then, again, call AppleCare and explain the situation.

  • Map SharePoint Libraries in intranet not on Internet. Is it possible in SharePoint 2013?

    Hello,
I have live site and map SharePoint library with local drive. That feature I want to enable in intranet or not enable for intranet.
Can you suggest how can we define the scope for Map SharePoint Libraries? Is it possible in SharePoint 2013?
    Thanks.

    Method #1
Administrators can disable access to the Windows Explorer view by modifying the “User Permissions” on the web application. This is done within Central Administration
    Method #2
I have found that simply removing the “Open in Explorer” button all together from the SharePoint ribbon can
be an effective way to prevent access through the Explorer view. There is a good blog post here on how to accomplish this here.
    Method #3
A third method that is effective and allows you to still maintain client object model access and access through
the Microsoft Office open dialog is the following procedure which modifies the permissions required to access the Open in Explorer button. This procedure will result in the “Open in Explorer” button in the SharePoint web interface to still be visible and enabled,
but to only be accessible by users that have the “ManageWeb” permission on the site.
    Method #4
A 4th and probably more extreme method is to in fact disable WebDAV itself on the IIS Web Server.

  • To MBA 2013 i5 users: What is the battery life?

    Hey guys,
there are some hot discussions over battery life in MBA 2013 with i7. I personally own one and I can say that 12 hours is nothing close to the truth. Battery life can reach that long when WiFi is turned off, but web browsing is the most basic activity on a computer these days. My MBA gets around 7 hours of battery life when using Internet connection and I feel cheated by Apple.
I'm thinking of exchanging my model to i5 one, but haven't out whether battery life is significantly better or it's same kind of gimmick.

several reports indicate (from reputable testing sites) that 12 hours on the I5 13" are understated, and that 2 hardcore tests indicated just under 13 HOURS, or a hair OVER 13 hours
I have an I5 13", and I dont say with difficulty that batt. life is, in short, crazy / shockinginly fantastic.
My older 2011 Macbook Air i just sold, ......it literally blows my old AIR out of the water powerwise, and writing 1.1GIG Photoshop to the HD, was id say about 40% faster from full install between the 2. (old and new).
I run nonstop youtube (white noise) in the background.....(on firefox, which is a battery hog compared to Safari), and typing, and opening PDF files.........under those conditions, im getting about nearly 12 hours batt. life,  of the 2 times ive actually clocked it.
Ive compared my I5 next to my friend Stefans I7 13", i did same same testing for 5 hours, and his was 28% LESS batt life

  • MBA 2013 shut down without reason after upgrade MAVERICKS

    Hi there ,
I have a new MBA 2013 , till the upgrade to Mavericks (for free) no worries , but today after the upgrade he shutted down unexpectedly twice !!! What's happening here ? Am I the only one having this kind of issue?
    HELP ME
    THX by advance
    Raph from Brussels

    nana4design,
some 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pros are known to have a defective NVIDIA GPU. Since you’re getting GPU panics, yours might be one with the defect. Apple had a gratis servicing program for this model’s defect that lasted for three years from the date of the MacBook Pro’s purchase; they still offer the servicing program, but it is no longer guaranteed to be gratis. I’d recommend making an appointment at your nearest Apple store, to have them run their Video System Test on your MacBook Pro to confirm whether or not its NVIDIA GPU has this defect.

  • Running Autocad on MBA 2013

Is anyone using MBA 2013 that running AutoCad in Win7 under Parallel Desktop? How's your experience with it? Is it running smoothly?
I have been using MBP 2010 i7 8G Ram that Autocad works perfectly with Win7 under Parallel Desktop. However, its portability is not ideal and I plan to upgrade it to MBA 2013.

It looks like Apple Hardware Test is not on the hard drive, so you need the original DVDs that came with your Mac. If you have not got them, call Apple to get these discs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After getting them, follow these steps to run Apple Hardware Test > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
Every Mac has got a different Apple Hardware Test which is included in the DVDs that came with it, or in new Macs, you need to download it from the Internet by holding down Option and D keys while your Mac is starting up.
Make sure your MacBook is plugged to its charger while Apple Hardware Test is running

  • Yosemite on MBA 2013: Incredibly Slow

    Hello All,
Has anyone else noticed how laggy Yosemite is on their MBA 2013s?
I have. This thing used to be a powerhouse with Mavericks.
Specifically, I've noticed that the animations are a lot slower on the new OS and that the battery drains much faster. When doing my scroll to enter into mission control, the animation is choppy. When sliding between backgrounds, it's laggy. The only benefit from the new OS that I've noticed is that my text messages come to my computer as well as my phone.
So, has anyone here found ways to speed up the OS? Hopefully they aren't too complicated.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

Hello I just purchased the mba 2013
My samsung hdtv does not recognize the mac, and the mac doesnt recognize the machine,
there are some sighns of trying to recognizeing each other but all attempts fail,
there are 4 HDMI connections in the TV ...
I am trying yo use my HDTV as my screen.
    any help please please
    Nadav.

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at some of the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

  • My MBA 2013 experiences scroll lag in certain adobe pdf file...

I have a newly bought MBA 2013 with 128GB SSD and Intel i5 couple with 4GB RAM.
I always experience the scroll lag wheneer i try to access the pdf via adobe reader...
May I know how to solve the problem?

Do you get the lag when the PDF is open in the Preview application?

  • Gaming Performance Increase from Late 2011 MBP to 11 or 13 MBA 2013?

I have a Late 2011 MBP 13,upgraded with 256 GB SSD and 6 GB RAM.
    I play mostly CS:S, SC2, WoW, D3 and that's about it.
I would like to be able to move into SimCity (After Aug 29 Launch Obviously), and perhaps DCUO and The Old Republic (VIA BootCamp)
Would I see a nice jump with the haswell chips in the MBA 2013 model?
If so I might jump, if not I am ok here right now, running wow at low with 30+ FPS.
Just curious, thanks for the advice!

The Late 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro has got an Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU, and the Mid 2013 13-inch MacBook Air has got an Intel HD Graphics 5000 GPU.
The MacBook Air will work better with graphic tasks, but both of them are not ready for heavy use.
If you want to play games like those ones, the best thing you can do is to get a 15-inch MacBook Pro, which includes a quad-core processor and a NVIDIA GPU which will work correctly. The difference will be very big compared to the Mid 2013 MacBook Air.
Also, the MacBook Air is not ready for games. It overheats quickly, and high temperatures damage it. If you get the MacBook Air, don't set high values in games, and make sure that the games you want to play support integrated graphic cards

  • Dual monitor setup MBA 2013

    Hello Everyone,
This is my first post on the Apple Support Community.
Nice to meet al of you!
    System information:
    Macbook Air medio 2013
    Model MacBookAir6,2
    Intel Core i7 1,7GHZ
    8GB
    512GB SSD
I am wondering if it is possible to have a dual monitor setup using the thunderbolt feature daisy-chain.
The configuration i am looking for is:
MBA --> Belkin Thunderbolt™ Express Dock (for using gigabit ethernet) --> Dell U2414H --> Dell U2414H
    Specs:
    Belkin Thunderbolt™ Express Dock = http://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F4U055/
    Dell U2414H = http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&sku=860-BB CG
Do i have a chance this could work?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you all.
    Thanks!
    Kind regards,
    Njamo187

    Hello,
I had the same problem with a nVidia GT120 card (2009 Mac Pro standard). OSX wouldn't show the gray screen on the 3090, even when it was connected alone (to the DVI port). Also, the login screen would always revert to the secondary display (connected thru the mini display port to DVI adapter).
    After login, all was well.
Now I've solved the problem with an nVidia GTX 285 card. The 3090 is connected to the n.1 DVI port and the secondary display (a 1600x1200 Eizo L997) to the n.2 DVI port, and the Mac Pro boots correctly on the 3090 (gray screen and everything, at full 2560x1600 resolution).
Note that the first time I booted up the Mac after replacing the GT120 with the GTX 285 I had the same problem, and solved it by disconnecting the secondary display and then rebooting with the 3090 alone. Now everything works as it should.
Dont't know if there is a bug somewhere (EFI, maybe) of if the GT120 and your ATI are simply unable to work at full resolution before OSX desktop loading.

  • Is 1080p enough for 27" ext. monitor for MBA 2013?

    Hi Apple forums,
So, I was looking for an external monitor to use with my Macbook Air 2013 (Base model, 256gb ssd)
Basically, I'm really hesitant between 2 monitors: The Asus MX239H and MX279H. As the name suggests, one of them is a 23 inch monitor, and the other one 27. The remaining specs are the same between the 2 monitors, and there is about a 80€ price difference. (About 100 USD).
Now, I'm this hesitant as I don't know how 1080p resolution on 27" monitor would look, as it surely won't be as sharp as the 23". The monitor is going to be used for a variety of tasks:
    - With my 2013 MBA, mainly for browsing, document editing, video streaming.
    - With a Windows laptop from work (This isn't all too relevant, it's just going to be a VGA connection, doesn't have to look great)
    - Potential future gaming with Xbox One or PS4.
Does anyone have a 1080p 27inch monitor? Does the ppi look bad? Is text really disturbing to read as some people on forums suggest?
I'd say I'm sitting about 50cm / 1.6 feet at distance from the monitor.
Any suggestions or opinions would be great.
    Thanks!
    Cihad

I actualy recently got a new 2013 IMAC and I am finishing up editing a 6 Camera multiclip project. I bought the 27" because it was the only one that comes with the 3.5 GHz I7 chip which Compressor and Final Cut can activate its multiicores and on board Intel graphics.  I have the top graphics (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB) & the 1 TB flash internal storage (realize, it is not a SSd drive bogged down by Sata constraints, it is PCIe)-  it is rediculous fast. Over 768 MB/sec. BOTH read & write of 5 Gig files in BM test. I have 16 gigs of Ram but can upgrade anytime on the 27". The 21" is sealed & I reason will run hotter.
More to the point, this 6 camera shoot of 2 one hour sets of a rock band performance shot and editied natively - Sony XDCAM. I am doing edits of each song but leave the One hour of synced clips on the timeline while I add effects, titles, etc. then "select" and "share" each song --- Not a hiccup.  I am so glad that I didn't get any less of a machine. The hottest it has ever gotten (150 F) is when transcoding. Using Compressor, Final Cut or even MPeg Streamclip makes it work but it is still very very fast.
I got a Lacie 10 TB 5 Big Thunderbolt raid array. In Raid 0, it reads & writes at over 700 MB/sec as well.
I have had several computers since 1989 -- both PC & Mac.  This Imac is perfect for Final Cut X.
I highly advise to not skimp. Technolgy moves too fast. Just do it.

  • MBA 2013 battery drain quickly during sleep after updated to mavericks

    Hi,
After I updated to mavericks this Tuesday, I noticed the battery drains quickly during sleep mode.
Before the system update, everything was ok. Each night after I closed the lid, it went to sleep and the battery only droped less than 5% after sleep of the whole night.
But during the last two nights after system update, it drained more than 50% of the battery during 8-hour sleep. I could feel some heat on its back when I picked it up. I did not change any system setting or installed any new apps.
my MBA: latest 2013 version, 13 inch, haswell i7, 8G ram, 256 SSD.
I liked my mba so much because of the long battery life. But now It was really annoying because I have to charge it very often.
Any ideas how to solve this issue?

    Hi Hans,
There's another thread going with the same issue as you... check:
MBA mid-2013 wakes from sleep every minute on Mavericks
I still haven't seen a resolution anywhere... smacks of something on Apple's side with so many users complaning

  • Is mini-dvi to video with higher resolution possible?

so i have an imac24 with an adapter to run to my flatpanel 1080i tv. when i plug in the adapter tiger obviously lowers the resolution and when it go to try and up the resolution it is not possible. i understand that it has to do that when the mac's display is cloned onto the flatpanel but when i want it to span, is it possible for me to have FULL resolution on my mac display and what ever resolution on my flatpanel?
on the pc, i have it set up like that and its able to handle both resolutions fine.
my objective is to be able to do one of the following:
run quicktime FULLscreen on my flat panel while still having access to my FULLresolution mac display (so i can play a movie or tv show on my flatpanel and still surf the net or run other apps simutaneosly(sp?) on the mac display)
    or
run FRONT ROW on the flatpanel while my mac display is still at the full resolution doing its own thing.
i've worked with macs most of my life, but never got around to owning my own until now (i had to wait for intel chips =P) so i guess you could say i'm sort of a switcher although i work with them all day everyday for work.
anyways, i can do this with my PC just fine, the card in my pc is about 3 years old so i dont think its a hardware problem, i'm just not settled in with aqua yet so i'm asking for help.
anyone know how i would do this?
    so to recap:
one imac display at full resolution (and no movie clone, at least not at full screen anyways) while the mac plays a movie full screen to another display (ie, my 1080i flatpanel tv).
    thanks everyone.

i understand that if i have the mirror turned off it works if i have quicktime running on my secondary monitor (my flat panel) but if i'm working on something else the audio will switch to what ever else i'm working on. it also renders my little apple remote useless.
can i tell quicktime to be dominant audio when its playing anything?
on another note, could i run frontrow independently on my flatscreen and still use my apple display for other applications without effecting playback on my flat panel.
with nvidia's media control (on PC) i'll have windowsmediaplayer running on one screen, and it clones the video only to the secondary monitor/tv while still giving me complete control to windowsmediaplayer on my primary screen.
can quicktime do that? or am i stuck just not-mirroring the displays and moving the movie over to the secondary screen and run fullscreen?
    thanks JD for your post.

  • Why, When i download something on my MBA 2013 it doesn't work?

A few days ago i purchased a MBA mid 2013. When i downloaded Adobe Flash Player it didnt work the first time. When I went into the downloads section the downloaded part was faded and i could not open it. I deleted it and downloaded it again and that time it worked. This happened when I downloaded Google Chrome as well. I know that i shouldnt have to download it twice.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Sometimes a download can be damaged or incomplete.
